Totally not even what I'm going to be doing but that is just so cool. I was just looking for how to install long plywood boards on a curve van roof without it falling off. So I won't be working with one big piece whatsoever but that was just really cool to see. In fact I don't even know exactly what I just watched all I know is that the math worked. Bravo.
That was pretty cool getting a shout out. My kids started screaming. They told me I was also now a famous TH-camr. I had to laugh. You definitely did simplify the process. There are for sure much more complicated ways of doing it. Have fun enjoying the rest of your Coronavacation.
K matt...that was cool as hell..and nope, I was wrong in my thoughts when I originally asked awhile back how to do it....thanks for the tutorial on it..friggin awsome!
Thanks for the video man. Well explained. I used screws and found that when I was loosening the screw with the knot it started to tighten the string. Nail is better
wow Brother.. that is nice, i am a window and door installer for the most part of my trade but this is amazing.. i can make template easier without spending too much time outside hanging on a ladder making the template out of paper runners or card boards.. thanks
My friend !!! I will probably never build an ellipse arch. But when you drew that 4” line with those cuts in that speed square 😮 man I was like OMG! You showed me something there!! Thanks for the awesome videos as always. 🙌
Great video and simple process. Would be great to show two different elliptical lines based on different heights. Keep it going!!! Your subscriber numbers keep inching up. I’ve not seen a good video on measuring and cutting birds mouths. Maybe you could do a video on that next.
I find that it goes smoother for me if I hold the pencil in one hand and put my other on the wood with the pencil between my middle and pointer fingers. Doing this helps keep the string from slipping off the pencil.
Excellent instructions. Thank you . Need for two elliptical arch windows I’m putting on the roof of a screened porch. How do you frame it into a 10/12 slope on roof?
There’s easier way of creating that arch, as a brickie we used to cut boards to the width of the door or window, find the middle and then run the pencil attached to string line around the top. 5 min job and perfect arch every time 🤷🏻♂️
Matt what type and size nails do you use on batons? Im considering using rough cut lumber for my battons on nichiha fiber cement pannels. Also what caulk do you use for this application.. thanks your videos help this diy guy
Excellent explanation overall. but I'm confused on the number for the rise. Is the rise just an arbitrary number that you pick? I got confused at that part. I have an 84 inch area I'm going to build an archway in, and I'm trying to adapt your numbers to what I have. Thanks.
Hey Matt, i enjoy the videos you're doing great. Quick question, I'm new to the construction game and I'm in a situation where I'm being trained for a construction management position with little existing experience. What would you suggest to be a great learning point for the basics, in addition to asking people on site how things work and watching youtube videos an hour a day or so? I'd appreciate the response, thanks.
What determines your rise? I have 2 of these to fix because customer is not happy with the outcome that the previous framer did. The opening width is pretty wide with only a 9’ ceiling
Dude!! I've been searching for this for months. I want to do an elliptical curve for a stage, at the front, but its the same concept. Thanks!!!

It’s good to see someone (you) sharing these tips and tricks, where others don’t think about it. Thumbs up mate.
Simple, yet Brilliant👍 Thanks for making me a better builder!
Would be cool to do a video on building a winding staircase.
That was pretty cool getting a shout out. My kids started screaming. They told me I was also now a famous TH-camr. I had to laugh.

Kudos on changing the logo, looks waaay better :)
Wow thank you!!
Awesome video👌
THANK YOU!!!
Mind Blown!
First time i saw that method. Now I know 4 ways to lay out an ellipse
Incredible
Bro more like these plss
great video- I assume the vertical axis is at 24"?
We used to eyeball 1 inch PVC pipe for our arches. Looking back maybe it wasn’t the most perfect method but it was fast and never had a complaint
There’s easier way of creating that arch, as a brickie we used to cut boards to the width of the door or window, find the middle and then run the pencil attached to string line around the top. 5 min job and perfect arch every time 🤷🏻♂️
Will this work the same for any length
you are the best Bro
That’s great man it life a lot easier
Great video. Thanks..any webpage that has suggestions on the height of an arch if I was doing a 4 meter wide arch
Matt what type and size nails do you use on batons? Im considering using rough cut lumber for my battons on nichiha fiber cement pannels. Also what caulk do you use for this application.. thanks your videos help this diy guy
Hey Matt, great video! where did you get that jacket you have on?? (Oops! it was down in the description LOL) thanks!
BAD Workwear! ;) Links in description. I have 2 or 3 of these hoodies now, pretty much the only thing I wear now.
Excellent explanation overall. but I'm confused on the number for the rise. Is the rise just an arbitrary number that you pick? I got confused at that part. I have an 84 inch area I'm going to build an archway in, and I'm trying to adapt your numbers to what I have. Thanks.
nice tip

Your videos are bad ass👍
Is this the same as an eliptical arch
👍👌💪 perfecto Matt , good lesson for me ;)
What type of rise would you suggest for a 10’ opening with a 10’5 high ceiling?
I've seen this technique so many times, I just couldn't bare to watch again. See you in the next one.
that's badass!
incredible. now that's a tip
Killer video!
Can you do a curved wall framing with windows?
What determines your rise? I have 2 of these to fix because customer is not happy with the outcome that the previous framer did. The opening width is pretty wide with only a 9’ ceiling
Can you cover framing calculators
That was awesome. So simple. Thanks for your time and effort posting vids. Look fwd to u returning to the jobsites.

Now for how to calculate the perimeter of the ellipse… time for another YT search! 😅
Wow! 🤌
