  • How to fix your broken Hyundai Sonata cruise control buttons that stopped working or only work sometimes or when cruise control won't turn on. Fix the cruise control set button and cruise control cancel buttons when they are broken. This is a 2013 Sonata. All you have to do is pull the white connector out and then reconnect it again - do this several times and it should fix your cruise control buttons.
    Remove the negative battery connection before begginning for your safety!!
    Remove the airbag from the steering wheel using an allen wrench or hex key by poking it in the 3 holes on the outside of the steering wheel as seen in the video. Then remove the white clip and reinstall it several times to make sure the connectors are seating correctly. You can also use a dry air dust remover to clean out any dust. Then align the airbag component and push it down to pop it back in place. Test drive and see if this fixes your issue. Good luck!

    Took me about an hour but this did the trick for my 2011 Sonata; although, I had to spray the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and unplug/plug the connector about 10 times. The Hyundai dealer gave me a $450 estimate to replace either the Clock Ring or the Cruise Control Computer!!

    Dielectric grease is made for electrical connections and could also help keep things connected 👍

    I laughed at the airbag removal part where you couldn't find the bottom hole and I said to myself "he could have just turned the steering wheel so it was more easily accessible" easy oversight.

    I have a 2011 hyundai elantra that's having the same issue. I'm going to try this after work today and pray that it works. If it works, you're the best and thank you for potentially saving me thousands for a fix.

    @R1 You saved me man, thanks for this! Been needing to replace the buttons on my sonata and I gave up last time I tried to figure it out. Didn’t realize how simple it actually is to get that dang cover off.
    Wish you’d made this video like 6 months ago haha!

    Do you think this will also work for the Elantras? Everything but my set/resume (which is rare if it does) button works and I drive long distances very often. I dont want to have to purchase a new set of buttons when thats the only one that isnt working 100%.

  • @af31ns

    If still not working, you could try to clean the pins with a q-tip and various cleaners such as canned electrical or brake cleaners, lemon juice, or vinegar. If you google cleaning copper, most videos are focused on trying to remove corrosion, but more often, copper connectors get a film-like layer of oxidation that doesn't look like corrosion and might not even look like there's a problem. So just to be sure my contacts are good, I'm rubbing the pins with vinegar and then pushing them in and out of the connections. Then I'm repeating this with the q-tip dipped in distilled water to remove the vinegar. Then let dry before final assembly.

    My daughter has a 2005 Hyundai sonata it is a automatic transmission car. The brake switch is fine and I replace the switches on the steering wheel but still has no Cruise control. It does have a bad clock spring other than the bad clock spring and that switch on the gear selector underneath it sometimes can cause cruise controls not to function anything else I could be looking for? It's kind of been real pain in the ass

    I don't know if my problem is the same cause all my other buttons are acting funny as well. when I press the volume button on my steering wheel, my voice command activates. All of my cruise control buttons are dead. I tried this method and nothing. Still the same so I am planning on replacing the clock spring to see if that fixes the problem and I will report back.

    Hello, I'm thinking of buying a wheel that have cruise control for my sonata, although the original one doesn't have it, I have only Trip/Reset/Mode on the right, and Tune-up and down/volume control and mute, I wonder if it will activate the extra functionality??, will it work?

    I have the same intermittent cruise control working not working then it went to slapping the buttons kinda hard and that would work, then it moved to slapping the buttons hitting the top of the steering wheel, then it went to slapping the buttons pounding the top of the steering wheel while slightly turning the wheel left or right, it's become a ritual for me I tell ya, but now it just plain doesn't even turn on anymore and I've replaced the buttons, then I replaced the clock spring and still nothing. Very frustrating as I was a religious cruise user set it and forget it otherwise I speed and get in trouble

    So I’m having this problem but I’m a little afraid to mess with the airbag. How safe is this?

    • @ChrisNeary86
      @ChrisNeary86 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if you're still apprehensive or this might help someone else but:
      I had my paddle shifters go out which shorts out your floor shifters + and - controls, and for that I removed the full wheel. To do it safely I was probably overly paranoid but followed another TH-cam vid. I did this:
      - remove negative terminal
      - turn on all the lights on and off, to drain any residual current from the 'hot' circuits
      - wait 30+ mins before removing airbag
      - if unclipping and taking out the airbag, lay it face down in case of it firing off/malfunctioning. This way it won't spring up and catapult in the air.
      The bare minimum is probably OK just doing step 1 and 2 though - but better to be safe than have the airbag go off.

      Well they kinda do. The problem is that all auto makers are cutting corners. He has a point - Kia & Hyundai have had so many issues but even Toyota has had concerning recalls.
      However my particular car is still going strong over 200k with the class action engine #2 and regular maintenance. That being said I don't think I would consider buying another Hyundai after this one.

    • @newphone3594
      @newphone3594 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrisNeary86 they claim they have the best warranty but it's all fake. My car has a problem with losing 1qt of oil every 1000 miles and it is covered under the engine recall, however after 3 appointments at the dealer they lie to me that my car doesn't lose any oil and it's all fine. All they do is wait for the extended warranty to run out then they will be able to charge me for a full price of an engine. Never ever buying another Hyundai/Kia product. Here is a bonus I talked to one their sales person and asked him if the new ones also have the oil burning issue and he said unfortunately yes. That tells you this company doesn't not known how to make reliable engines. They have only become really good at designing to fool customers into buying them for looks.

  • @jamesabarela
    @jamesabarela ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Anybody else had an issue where the cruise control would actively turn on by itself, and set at whatever speed it felt necessary (even if it's 80 mph in a 25 mph zone) and you couldn't disengage it via the brake pedal only thru turning the ignition completely off which is dangerous, or pressing the steering wheel buttons in a certain combination for it to turn off, after you got it turned off the brakes would lock up and car wouldn't not move and. Check engine, esp, traction control lights all lit up on the dash? I felt it was a pretty serious deal so I have the car towed to the dealership but they didn't seem to think that it was a big deal at all that I was overreacting that my car was speeding out of control by itself yeah that's safe let your wife drive my car and see how safe she is.
