  • World's Largest Knife Store and the Amazing Story of How It all Started:
In the early 1970's, Kevin Pipes-the company's current president and CEO− and John Parker started to sell pocketknives from the back of their pickup trucks. They spent most of the next decade building relationships with customers and vendors alike, and in 1978, Smoky Mountain Knife Works was born.

I still have my Case peanut, with stag handles that I got from Kevin and/ or John at the Old Mill store.

I recall making my Christmas list straight from their catalog and still order several knives a year from the website, but boy I could spend days in the store, being a bit of a history buff myself,....Mr. John I truly enjoy your content sir, my Mother and I watch your channel all the time, Thank You Much for Sharing Your Exploits.

@@theappalachianchannelI love this place because of one thing: the animatronic band. What year were they installed? Because in all honesty, that’s all I go in there for and nothing else

I drove a semi tanker back in the early 2000's. I used to go to Kingsport for s delivery, and then to SMKW. I would spend 2-3 hours looking around. Spent a lot of money there. Still order from the catalog now and then. I am totally retired now and in my mid 70's. I am planning a trip shortly, and it will be primarily to SMKW. Thanks for sharing John. I love your channel.

I grew up on the Kentucky Tennessee border and this was our regular vacation spot. I would look forward to going to Gatlinburg all year long. Smoky mountain knife works with my favorite stop. I have fond memories going in there with my dad. He's no longer with us and I get sad when I think about it. Such a great childhood living so close to the smokies.

Hey I just wanted to say that this was a great video and my grandpa was John Parker. The co-founder of SMKW. He unfortunately passed away 3 years ago, but he was my dads step dad and I am the reason my name is Parker because of him😊

Oh yeah. Can't tell you how many times I've been there and I probably still haven't seen everything. Have such great childhood memories of going there with my family. I was in the military stuff growing up and I always wanted a k-bar. Saved my money up and got me a k-bar on vacation way back in the early 90's.

Me and my best friend had a knife store together and we came once a week and bought knives there for years. One of my favorite things they had was Geronimos vest. it had human scalps tied on it and if I remember right about 16 or 18 of them. I couldn't believe how broad Geronimos shoulders were.
