- Fixing an uneven idle in a 1.5L Honda Civic. If you're having the same idling problem with your Honda, the FITV (Fast Idle Thermal Valve) is usually the main culprit. Along with air in your coolant system. We go over how to adjust the FITV as well as bleeding the coolant system in this video. Hopefully some of you will find this helpful.
Sorry the video is so long, this is 2 hours of footage and I didn't want to miss anything.
Check out my Facebook page for behind the scenes stuff:

I told my girl that if it worked I’d write a comment and boast. So here we go. That shit really worked and I looked everywhere for a solution. Thank you mucho man. Your a real mechanic dude
Thanks! Glad we could help haha
I really appreciate it y’all. I would of never found out what it was if it wasn’t for you two lol. And I looked everywhere online. Thank you thank you, keep up the good work.
Such a mouth. A gentleman and a scholar.
These guys need their own Show they are great together
12:04 This is a fuel pulsation damper. It has a diaphragm travel limiter screw under the plastic cap. When diaphragm fails, the gas leaks around the screw causing gas smell under hood and fuel residue under fuel rail. It also contributes to slow starting after car sits overnight.
10:05 you got every single detail right on my brothers civic 😂
This guy is a true mechanic thanks brother 👊🏽
awesome you guys , helped me fix my 94 civic , took the FITV off cleaned it out , ( had a prior head gasket replacement ) and turned it in 3 turns , will idle all day long now , thanks a lot for the good video

Good afternoon. Im very sure it's going to be stuck in there man but i have to do it i have exactly the same issue. Thanks for the step by step. Much love and respect.
turns out there is several things that can cause idle hunting, erratic idle, idle surging w/e.
vaccuum leaks IACV FITV TPS air bubbles in coolant. maybe more. I finally found my problem. On the end of the fuel rail there is a fuel pressure regulator that has a small brass screw. 12:00 the brass screw was just sitting in the plastic cap creating a vaccuum leak causing idle hunting.
So just remove the plastic cap, and put the brass screw back in? That solved it?
it fixed mine. but there is several things that can cause it.
Kkk
How tight did u screw it in

I think I've seen these guys on an episode of Criminal minds.
my 1995 honda civic ex is doing the same thing. it idles smoothly but a little higher if i unplug my throttle position sensor. It is a d16z6
Gaston Glock when i turn my on i hear this raddling noise and it idles weird
Gaston Glock I have sorta the same problem but mine won’t rev past 2 k rpms and lacks power
My civic only has this issue after I first start the car and a/c is running after 10 min , if I turn off a/c car idles perfect , this only happens to me when a/c is on . HELP
This was hilarious and also very informative. Thanks guys!
No prob! Glad you liked it
Good shit even tho ya'll fuck around you guys were the only one to actually fix this
Thanks haha
next time just take the 4 throttle body bolts off and spin the whole thing bolts now face the side :P
"Please Stand By"
fucking golden, man.
Dudes on are it, same thing fixed my 94, a couple things are different but pretty much like the video
About the 6 min mark you can adjust the electronic " one allen type head screw on side.
This started happening to me after I replaced my radiator in my Honda del sol Dseries. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?
you probably have air in your cooling system you may need to bleed the air out of it after replacing radiators thats what youre supposed to do
Is your main cable in the right place ( The one where it connects the accelerator pedal to the engine) ? I had that problem and the one in the video a while ago.
Hahaha. Great video. Just bought a Honda Civic today with exactly this problem. I shall have a go at it tomorrow. Thanks.
Where is the fast idle thermo valve (FITV) on a 1997 Honda Accord located?
xxevilpyro Right under where the air intake duct meets the throttle body. Look for coolant lines leading there and feel for the three bolts that are under it. It’s easiest to remove with the air intake ductwork off.
I did the same thing you guys did. When I stopped at the stop light, it surged a few times. I turned my Honda off and turned it back on, the surging stopped. I even replaced the IAC valve it still continues. Not sure where to look to next. Maybe TPS?
Hey man you ever get that fixed?
since I live in Minnesota, I'm thinking I'll head over to this guy's shop and pay him to do my '95 civic...
How far are you from St. Cloud?
@@mncarguy I"m in South Minneapolis...
I’m having the same issue, at first I was like wat a long f-ing video, but after watching it I’m glad, thank u
I have the same problem but I would like to know where the hose that is to the left of the map sensor goes to
I have a 1995 Passport, and when I accelerate the engine under no load, it coasts down near stalling for about a split second before returning to idle speed. is it normal for the valve to be delayed like that?
Could someone help me? I have a 92 civic (d15) and I used to have that same problem but I fixed the idle problem but everytime when I start up the car as it's cold, it always just stalls. Then takes a while to turn back on. It keeps doing that until the car is warmed up then it doesn't do that at all

Check your distributor condition. The rotor and for moisture.
Nice Fix Video, and the Camera Guy is funny :))) LOL. We have the same Engine on a 90 Honda CRX, just doesn't have Air Conditioner, it's 400K+ now. My main question is... There must be a By-Pass alternative for this :D
Try this Video: th-cam.com/video/pkb1FasEMsU/w-d-xo.html
I want to superglue glue that plastic piece so it doesn't move loose again. bad ? I've had to do this 2 times going on 3
I wouldn't recommend it since that part seems like it needs to move. I haven't looked into it but I'm curious if there's some sort of bypass you can put in place of it. Or even just a better designed version..
Mine was bad air boost valve
Do a full tune up Spark plugs and wires and also clean the iacv
Good morning to all:. Can someone tell me if I can driver my 99 CRV with the IAC valve disconnected ? car starts ok without it, but if I plug it in, it won't start once it reaches certain temperature. I don't think it will pass the emission test, but, can I run the car with the IAC disconnected ? Please help. Thanks
Wow dude your awesome man great video, great instructions. I took of the fitv and yes it was loose so I tightened it and it fixed the idle down to 1 and steadied then after 20 minutes it did it again so I unplugged the ivac and it idled regular so im going to change that thanks
Glad we could help some! Hope replacing that will fix your issue.
Thank you so much this actually was the problem I've been trying to figure out what was wrong for so long now
Thank you so much for this video, it helped me fix/service an accord's 94 FICV...
hi, my 1994 accord have a problem with rpm, my car just run to 4,000 rpm, you think you know about that?
Check the idle screw on the throttle body by the map sensor
Buenas tarde tengo un Honda civic 1995 que cuando lo enciendo no acelera luego lo apagó y lo vuelvo a encender y acelera normal kpuede ser
my eg6 is doing this but no hickups on the throttle
Dope checking it out rn hopefully it is just redid my headgasket.
Man if you think that's hard something is wrong. I've had a shit ton of these cars. They are cake
Great entertaining video
Thanks haha
+mncarguy ir that mechanic had a youtube channel, it would be called "Fixing Fucking Cars" .
Mientras Tanto genius atwork
This guy knows
wish he was my neighbor.
It's easier just to remove the throttle body. Then you can have access to the fit valve.
What is the part called so I can order it?
Fast idle thermo valve
Idle air control (IAC) can also cause this issue
The guy in this video is bad ass
thanx man ive been searching for this fix all day
Great explanation .. congratulations on the video. helped me!
My 93 prelude doing the same thing
More often than not I tell people this and they never believe me. Some do and win some sell their cars.
My only video is a short version of this.
Same problem with my 95 accord
Civic lx 1.5 93 Brazil
uhh
Nice
Could this eventually lead to stalling?
Mine have been doing it for years, replaced IACV and cleaned FITV, problem still there, It have never stalled...
I figured it out. It was that map sensor. Even though voltage checked out.
@@brandonteal7211 which sensor mine stills does it.
@@elboqueteno it's the MAP sensor. It stands for manifold absolute pressure, it's just the little rectangular sensor right in top of the throttle body ( likely with a vaccum line going to evap canister). It's right where your intake fits on. I checked voltage and cleaned it but nothing changed so I overlooked it. One day I cleaned it again just to be sure and broke it with a pin lol. I put the new one on and problem gone dumb luck lol.
My car started doing this after i put on a throttle bottle spacer
This work great, thanks alot..
So your supposed to turn it clockwise ?
Yup
Thank you I just change the gasket of the throttle body and when I put it back together it started doing that I thought I had a vacuum leak but everything was connected right
What’s the name of the part?
It started doing this after we replaced the head and head gasket. Didn't even touch the throttle body. The part is called a fast idle thermo valve (FITV).
Thank you!!
He looks and sounds like the PE Teacher from "Big Mouth". Netflix Show
Okay lets make a 5 minute video 30 minutes. Ready break!!
Dear Jesus valve adjustment holy shit 😂
Must be Canada, that would explain them acting high as fuck

whats up i live in mn wanna help me fix up my civic 95
I'm sure we could figure something out. Where abouts do you live in MN and what's all wrong with it?
mncarguy cannon falls high idle and loose shifter
ignition timing may be off a little i need to turn the distributor
runs rich
Damn, you're a little over 2 hours south of me. I'm still willing to help ya out if you can get it to my shop near Little Falls.
OMG so cringe... That's the IACV! Jesus! The FITV is under
1:43 "Points to the incorrect part"
So you make a video on how to fix a Honda idle. Then you start ripping on Honda guys.
Can't take a joke? You gotta admit that that's the stereotypical Civic owner. Still have this car by the way and it's been my daily driver for almost 4 years and love it.
Stereotypes don't exist or at least they are not true. Every person is an individual and have different behaviors.
Please God adjust you valve lash 😂

What an unnecessarily long corny video .
You're welcome
Harold Finch maybe to find out if the point of the video will ever be gotten to? If it will ever show the fix? You know, being the point of the video. Not all the boring childish antics in between.
Stopped when I heard WD-40. Any mechanic worth his weight, knows to use penetrating oil on anything you want to loosen....
F****** tweaker weekenders... Don't ever Let these people touch your vehicle
Life must suck when little things like that piss you off. It got the job done and the car still gets driven 100+ miles a day with no issues.
Clean up that workspace it's unsafe for anyone... Tired is a condition, not an excuse, As to why it hasn't been done...just a thought

That's true but still, it's just a backyard poll shed, not a business. I'd love having a shop like that but can't afford it.
