Niantic quietly made some changes to Pokémon GO in the last couple days. I explain what's new, and take a deeper look at one particular change: increased diversity and more rare Pokémon spawns in some areas.

Sniping gyms is lame. I have had multiple gyms sniped when I was healing my Pokemon. They need to lock out gyms for a while after they have been beaten so people who do the work don't get ripped off.
Put your lowest close Pokemon in the gym heal up and wait to snipe it from someone else

Before yesterday I hadn't seen a mr mime, now I've got like 3 or 4
I'm in Australia too, but no kangas for me today, I never see them around where I live and it didn't change, but I think there was a slight increase in the spawn rate in general

Well, its nice to have things in video format, but he basically just regurgitates what was on Reddit the day before. This is the best pokemon go channel on youtube. But mostly because he doesn't use clickbait titles and thumbnails. He also doesn't do 20 minute videos that have nothing to do with said clickbait title.
My only complaint is volume normalization. When he cuts to music, the volume is always so much louder than when he was talking.

There have been a lot more rare things spawning near me. Gastlys, Nidorans. Not really rare, but different at least.

Yes, I've noticed more rare pokemon in less densely populated areas. I caught a snorlax and ivysaur in the last day, which happened maybe once a week before.
Haha that struggle is real... 10+ Pokeballs on an average level Pokemon...
As for increase of rare Pokemon spawn, it is tough for me to tell because where I live in Southwest Florida, we have always had an above average spawning of rare Pokemon like Snorlax, Dragonair, Dragonite, etc.

Gym sniping is garbage. There should be at least a 30 or 45 second delay where if you defeat a gym, then YOU get priority to put a Pokemon there before anyone else does. Hoping Niantic eventually fixes this. When I first started playing, it took me forever to understand how gyms actually worked because of this ridiculous dynamic.
What if some 1 else helps too?
I don't think it should be specific to a person but instead a team. and whatever team had removed the most prestige from the gym within x amount of time should get priority.
I'm Nick, and these are my trainer tips. I work here with myself and myself. Everything here has a tip and a trick. One thing I've learned after 2 months - you never know when that Charizard will come through that door.

Hey Nick,
This vid is really bringing back memories. Back in 2000 I visited Maui on a school trip with my 11th grade Biology teacher, his wife and daughter and 12 of my classmates.
That place is awesome. Spent 8 days there. On our first full day we took a shuttle up to the summit of Haleakala (right where you lost the Clefairy) and biked down the whole way. Something I'll never forget.

Sometimes, I take down gyms and let somebody else have it if my defender bonus is still cooling down. So in the case, I actually want someone to snipe it. Or, I'll troll them and keep it down if I see the same person repeatedly taking it.
Yah they should have a 5 minute cooldown after a gym is taken down. Only the person who beat it should be able to take the gym while it's neutral until the 5 min is up
Definitely. When you defeat a gym they need to lock it to only the defeating trainer(s) for a minute or so max.

I looooove this channel so much. He doesn't make 3 hour long intros and goes straight to the point, and he doesn't make misleading thumbnails either. And by far his content is the best when talking about Pokemon go, is actually useful.
I did see variety increasing, I catched a Mr. Mime and a Dratini at my house. That's crazy. Before my house was full of Zubats and nothing else

I've noticed more charmanders appearing around Los Angeles neighborhoods. Before I had to go to the tarpits but now they seem to be spawning everywhere every couple of hours or so.

Eh I absolutely hate sniping a gym too, but it's happens to me so I'll snipe when I have the opportunity. If they don't want it to happen then there should be a cool down time.
Don't hate the player hate the game. Blame Niantic for having this (of the many flaws) in its game design
sniping gyms is fun. I once sat at a gym and sniped it five times in about 10 minutes. I almost felt bad, but not quite.
My town was Weedleville until a couple days ago, then I found a wild Gengar.

found a Gyrados near a lake at a park like 8 miles away from me. I was at 107 magikarp candies now I can use them to Power up my 890CP Gyrados

I live near hilly areas, far away from the sea. the nearest water pond is about 5km away. Today 18/9/2016, I seen water type pokemon spawning in my area such as horsea, goldeen, magikarp and poliwag.
I've personally seen a change in the spawning of rare pokemon, I have seen two kangaskhan's in the last 3 days in a rural area. Also keep up the good work nick, your editing skills are on point!

It's ironic how more Pokémon appear in cities than in the middle of the wilderness, where there are barely any Pokémon.
I work on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, and up until a few days ago, the majority of what I see are Magnemites and Voltorbs. A few Magikarps thrown in for good measure. Yesterday, I caught a Cloyster, Pikachu, Drowzee, and my first Wartortle. I saw a Jinx pop up on my Sightings list, but never found her. All of these are new for this area. Quite happy.
The good old days when the only thing people were angry at was Nick swiping the gym at 3:20

I live near a Football Stadium and every day in the middle of the stadium spawns a Snorlax or Doduo. The problem is the stadium is closed, i even asked the security if they would let me in or take my phone to catch it but NO :(

Amongst my millions of Pidgeys, Spearows and Rattatas, I suddenly picked up an Oddish, a Kangaskhan and a Weepinbell recently in Melbourne, Australia. It's a big, modern city with a great deal of parks and reserves

For me this is the best Channel for Pokemon Go information. All others seem to be giving the same information at least 2/3 days after. Keep up the good work
Spawn rates have definately increased drastically in Auckland. New Zealand. My house was only ever full of pidgeys, rattatas and spearows for weeks. Since a few days ago there's been Scythers, Starmies, Venusaurs
it's no longer 'rare' if the spawning has been increased. this is my problem with the game. there are a lot of occurrences of rare pokemon that it makes the game less appealing. I see a lot of people using dragonites now. I understand if Niantic increased spawning of pokemon in other places like the rural areas, but the rare pokemon should stay rare, because that's what they are, rare.

From Philippines here, around Makati CBD.
Tons of Magikarp just spawned today in our area -- both lured and normal spawn. I went from 83 candies to 214 in just around an hour and a half (and that's without transfers yet). It actually felt like the swarm mechanic in the main series.
For me, spawns have changed drastically. Over the weekend I caught a wild blastoise, 4 kangaskhans, grimer, aerodactyl, vulpix and other pokemon I had never seen in the wild before.
I live in California where growlithes are common in my area and drowzees are rare but I know in places like England drowzees are everywhere and growlithes aren't as common
as if drowzees aren't common enough in the uk, i happen to live on top of a drowzee nest... rip

Never seen a Growlithe in the wild, I see at least 15 Drowzees and 25 weedles daily. In addition I have never seen a geodude, vulpix, ekans or Rhyorn
I have the evolutions of all the pokemon that you said you haven't seen yet. I have only ever seen one drowzee and that was last week. My friends were so shocked when they saw i had a drowzee

There has always been variety here so I haven't noticed any changes yet. I live in an apartment tower about a mile from downtown. I have 3 pokestops in a triangle around my building. It's mostly Drowsies, Weedles, and Zubats. But I've caught Tauros, Warturtle, and Dratini here. There is a lot of variety here as we have parking lots, fields, a stream, highway, industrial, residential, and and train tracks within walking distance. I hatched a Porygon yesterday at the local college. We have a park & zoo that is rumored to be a Charmander nest. I'm going tomorrow.
So far i didnt notice any difference with pokemon spawns here in Malta so far, but what i noticed is that wild pokemon are attacking more frequently

the spawn rate has really increased since the last update. I live in a rural area in Romania and while going on my usual routes in the last days I caught a lot of Gastly, Eevee and Meowth, and new pokemon like Squirtle, Omanite and Seel appeared in laces that didn't have pokemon before

Yep in my area have now found a Snorlax, exeggutor, rapidash, golduck at the edge of my street and found a Gengar about 10-15 min away from my house in a random neighborhood. Loving the new randoms :)
I've also been experiencing the same thing with rare pokemon spawning in the wild. There was a Rapidash in my neighborhood which is something I've never seen spawn in the wild before.

Well in my local town, I found: Mr Mime, once I found a Fearow, once an Arcanine and a Parasect

My home used to be littered with Eevees but now it spawns loads of different stuff from Mr Mimes to Magikarps. I caught a 1245 Executor at a spawn by the beach yesterday :)
I live in a suburban neighborhood on the corner. Ever since I first downloaded the app all I was finding was pidgeys, weedles and other common Pokemon. ever since that new update though, the opposite corner of my neighborhood has been a Pokemon gold mine. I have found a nidoqueen, weepinbell, haunted and golbat. my cousin even caught a ninetails at this spot. In fact, when I was at a local mall, I found a marowak while exiting the mall. it seems that evolved Pokemon are appearing in the wild more often. Hopefully this helps!

The diversity is getting better, in my area I would get really bad Pokémon, but in the past month I've seen around 3 vaporeons, caught a gyrados and about three snorlax appeared
Definitely more diverse spawns over the last few days Nick. Yesterday I caught a Mr Mime, a Nidoqueen and a Vaporeon, none of which I had seen in the wild before!

it is hard to breath on high altitudes.. if you have asthma dont climb a mountain without your 1st aid!
I've been to 14,115 feet(Pikes Peak) and I can say that while you don't notice it at first, the moment you start to exert yourself you will get dizzy and get a headache. The elderly are especially affected.
it's not really noticeable unless you exercise, run for a while or ski in these heights. then you are running out of breath a bit sooner as if you were not as fit as you thought you were at the base of the mountain ;-) if you didn't know you were on a mountain though you couldn't tell where your slightly decreased stamina comes from..
WAH Ha ha ha ha! 10K ft! Come to Colorado and you can drive up to 14K on Pikes Peak. Yeah its hard to walk and run around at these higher spots. Most people from sea level will notice the altitude when they exert themselves even a bit. 10K feet is a lot for someone that lives at sea level. Whats cool is that he went from sea level to 10K in one drive. That's a lot harder on your body. I live in the Denver area and we are between 5280ft (one mile) and a bit over 6K ft. So to me the jump to 10K doesn't effect me that much. Its at 13K ft that my head starts to get fuzzy and the pain starts. But everyone is different. Some people's finger tips and lips will turn blueish from the lack of oxygen, some people faint and others are just fine.
I've noticed the rare pokemons spawning more often. I've caught Mr. Mime five times since friday, before that I'd never seen him and only knew one person who'd caught him. I keep seeing victreebell, jigglypuff and seaking all over the place now and before that I hadn't seen a single one. It's pretty cool they changed it up a little bit.

When we climbed Diamondhead over Thanksgiving 2016, we also caught a Wartortle at the top summit.
Holy shit, didn't know they changed the moves, glad I've got one of the Gyarados with DragonBreath/HydroPump. its not my best one but now I know its special I won't be grinding him up to feed his brother now. ps: not a fan of the increased diversity change, I & a lot of other people would have been far happier if they just made the area spawns make sense, like guaranteed grass/bug types in the woods & things like ghost, normal & flying types in the suburbs. just having a random vomit of pokemon everywhere isn't a good thing.
My only gyarados with dragon breath also has twister, the pain is real...
I have 2 Gyarados the first was a mistake i was trying to transfer for candies and evolved into a 1200cp Gyarados 45IV and Bite Hydropump. But the other one has 91IV with Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse and is 2006cp got lucky i guess :)
I'm happy I picked up 100% IV Gyarados with DragonBreath/HydroPump.
Urrz That's epic lol. My best is a 92% 1940CP with bite and dragon pulse, not the best but at least I finally have something to counter exeggutor's and Slowbro's as well as dragonite's to some degree
I waited to evolve my magikarp so I can power evolve with a lucky egg, and get the extra EXP for a new pokemon. Now I wish I hadn't waited T__T
hey Nick. theory here, if you happen to see this. A couple of videos ago you were talking about the possibility of egg hatches being influenced by where you got the eggs. Meanwhile, I was playing some pokemon go at a place called the botanical gardens and hatched 3 grass types (out of the 4 that I hatched there) and was wondering if maybe where you are when the egg HATCHES has any influence? Just some food for thought I suppose~
i think it thats true where it hatches influences it, bc i was up near the mountains when i collected a couple of eggs, was at the pier and they hatched and ALL water type pokemon

6 Snorlax spawned around my town yesterday, as well as more bulbasaur. Growlithe has been easier to find the last 5-6 days, and it's overall becoming a lot easier to find stuff.

At the end of my small road there has been loads of pokemon spawning but a few days ago they never spawned there.
It's definitely changed, I caught a Dragonite and a Nidoqueen yesterday and saw a Persian this afternoon but was too tired to try to find it. Before yesterday the only Pokémon I've ever caught were loads of Omanytes, Sandshrews, Growlithes, Kabutos, Geodudes. They still are around but if seems like the rare Pokémon pop up more often than before.

I hatched a magmar egg yesterday and they gave me 32 magmar candies for it.
That's a lot of candies from an egg. Sucks that Magmar doesn't evolve, but if you have a high IV Magmar, you can power that sucker up a lot.
+Shaun Smith I was thinking the same thing. My egg was 10 km so maybe that's why. I'm not sure but I noticed that I found my first oddish a few days ago and I hatched an egg with an oddish and I only caught 3 or four. I was able to evolve one of them.

I'm from Houston and yes, recently have gotten more variety as of lately. My favorite spot became a Drowzee nest.
Had 3 unusual spawns two nights ago: an Arcanine (Growlithe in my area are extremely rare), a Wigglytuff (Jigglypuff are extremely rare) and a Venusaur (Bulbasaur are moderately rare).

Hey Nick. I found something out. I do not know if I'm right, but I seen it happen quite sometime. And wanted you to check it out. I think that the Sightings list is backwards. Instead of Left (nearest) to Right (farthest). I think is the other way around. Because I was looking for a Pinsir and it was the the first Pokemon on the sighting list along with Pidgey. Caterpie. Bellsprout. But the Bellsprout spawns.. and I Catch it. So I moved forward the position past where I caught the Bellsprout and the Position disappears from my List and I move back.. and the Position is back. I move towards that positions and now the Pinsir is Last in the list and he pops up and I catch it. It's odd.. but I need you to check it out to help the other trainers to track.

When you consider that Japanese read right to left, this would make sense.
sightings list is useless anyway, no need to find info about it. It only shows 1 picture of a pidgey but there could be 4 nearby so that already screws it up
I can confirm this. Usually I only see Pidgeys, Weedles, Rattatas, etc. In the last 3-4 days I've caught 1 Pikachu, 1 Ponyta, 1 Gastly, 1 Kadabra and 1 Dratini!!!
Brothers got pulled over by a cop while I was in the back playing Pokémon Go. Alakazam spawns before cop gets out of the car. I catch it, then after we drive off, one of them tells me he's convinced I stole that cop's Alakazam.

A porygon appeared next to my house yesterday, and I've never seen anyone get one before in my town... But besides that one, everything is normal... Not even an alteration on the types of the pokemon. It has always been mostly water type pokemons here and it still is. Also, no alterations on nests locations nearby as well!
this is so true. I walked to my local shopping mall which usually has only pidgeys and spearows and I caught a haunter and clefairy. And awesome video Nick! love you!

Why on earth do you care how they split the money??? If they split it equally, for instance, you don't know if Juan do all the editing (which takes more time than you think). Mind your own fucking business.
Been thinking the same, im starting to look up to Nick, and he's effort put in the quality content is so much more than others ahem, at least from what i've seen.
I think the spawns have definitely changed. in the past 2 days I've gotten, Dragonair, 2 Haunter's, Poliwrath, Poliwhirl, Venomoth, some Pidgeotto's and another Tauros.
I've literally caught 3 Snorlax and a Blastoise in my residential area the last couple days. Also I've seen a Golduck and a TentiCruel at the one water spawn in the neighborhood. They definitely changed the spawns.

I've certainly seen a lot of rares in my village since these changes. A few notable ones have been Electabuzz, Mr. Mime, Wartortle and Weezing. I'll be having a long walk around my village today so hopefully I can find some more really cool rares.
One difference is Dratinis are back! Well, a lot more have been spawning in Coronado,Ca then used to. Almost double I would say. In four hours you could catch 20-30 dratinis if you just drive a little around the island.
