    Jon Favreau hits a new low (If that's possible) in The Mandalorian season 3 episode 3. The New Republic is now worse than the Empire. Nice Work Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm, and the team behind The Mandalorian. Well done!

    The old EU also had leftover Imperial factions. Which makes sense - do you think the entire Imperial military just disappeared after Endor? The difference between the old EU and Disney, however, is that the old EU showed PROGRESS happening after ROTJ, as the New Republic emerged as a major Galactic power that fought against various Imperial remnant factions. Unlike the Disney canon, which just RESETS the Galaxy back to Empire vs. Rebels, wiping out all prior progress.

      having Imperial remnants is fine. The idea that Starwars is like the end of WW2 is silly since the Rebels did not completly beat the Empire.
      Best way to handle the story was the Rebels killed Palpy and the Empire fractured because thats what happens when you kill the head honcho and there is no Plan B. Each Major player carved out their own Nitch. Rebels attacked and captured the Capitol like in Legends and any world was allowed to join the New Republic. Imperial Control of the Core Worlds was mostly broken and the Rebelion fought to allow as many worlds to join as possible. Imperial remnants thus only controlled worlds who legit supported the Empire or were simply resource worlds without real population who would want to revolt.
      But lots of worlds remain independent.
      Thats how you world build. unfortunately, Disney does not know how to do that.

      @Plasmon19 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      @@FULANODETAL In legends it was established that a great number of star systems were self sufficient in that they had their own minor or major ship building and resource gathering and processing facilities to one degree or another. The local moffs, grand moffs, and admirals that kept those sectors in line continued their operations mostly uninterrupted when the emperor was killed. Without a head of state and senate the admirals and moffs basically resorted to power struggles or alliances. So in the end the Galaxy was divided into factions consisting of independent worlds, the new republic, and numerous system factions forming the imperial remnant. Not every sector of the galaxy was in favor of rebelling against the empire so they remained loyal to their governing body. And not every world with rebel elements was successful in gaining independence. The old EU did this aspect of world building quite well imo. It opens up a lot of avenues for storytelling and puts into perspective the entirety of the state of the galaxy while still being able to focus on characters. This is why the fans who enjoyed Legends still love and treasure the Expanded universe rather than discard it in exchange for Disney or simply not defend it and move to a different franchise altogether.

    Anyone remember that one click where Mark Hamill said that when opening scene for Darth Vader we should mention he's evil, but George Lucas said no, it's fine we'll dress him in black and have the background white and we'll play evil music. Good times

    • @uglybad4
      @uglybad4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      In that same scene, aside from his appearance and music doing most of the heavy lifting, his evil nature is characterized by his direct approach. As soon as he's on board Leia's ship, he's interrogating crew members with strangulation as an intimidation tactic. He's trying to figure out where the Death Star plans went ASAP and will resort to anything that will get him to his goal quicker. Efficiency with no regard for the value of human life; effectively branded evil without anybody ever muttering the word.

      Vader’s opening shot establishes a lot about him. First, his black outfit, armor, and mask are all distinct from the Stormtroopers, marking him as someone of clear importance.
      He strides into battle with an aggressive, confident gait like a hunter. You can’t see his face due to the mask, so body language is absolutely key,
      He interrogates the Rebel troopers by strangling them with his bare hands and tossing them like ragdolls.
      In just a brief amount of time, you can tell he’s not someone to mess around with. When Vader gets angry, people DIE! And this is BEFORE we see him strangle a guy with his mind, or his terrifying personal combat prowess.

    TBH, in the old EU the writers had an understanding on how basic politics work and the aftermath wasn't that bright as the end of RotJ showed. There were still imperial fleets, garrisons and governors left throughout the galaxy and several imperial loyalist planets. What followed was an intense period, filled with imperial warlords and with a civil war, where several strong candidates named themselves the heirs of Palpatine. Including the old version of Thrawn.
    What the old EU writers actually understood, that the New Republic, what fought against the Imperial Remnant and the Warlords wouldn't be an absolute clown and they wrote them as not always right, but objectively positive.

      There is really no comparison here, for at least one reason. It being that back then the corporations didn't hold every author by the balls. As a result we had plenty of very creative work being done. Not just books and graphic novels, but also video games were putting the word "expanded" in the Expanded Universe. You mention Timothy Zahn's Thrawn. I'll add to that Karen Traviss with her Republic Commando series, that brought an unexpected character, a beautiful father figure, mandalorian instructor to the clone army, named Kal Skirata. But wait, there's more! We got three great games set in the Old Republic era, some 3000+ years before Luke Skywalker, and still fans gobbled it all up and asked for seconds. Now, when Old Republic era was really explored and fleshed out, nothing is stopping Lucasfilm to capitalize on that, and create an Old Republic SW show, where the Sith Empire battles the Republic across the galaxy. But this would require the corpo world to release the gorilla grip on the already unnaturally swollen and colored gonads of the creative directors. Not to mention current political climate being what it is...

      ahah GoT season 8 i think i watched hundred of critics video about it, it was gold mine for youtubers as much of disney SW is. Even Andor which is well written have mega flaws in the "concepts", it's really tedious to depict resistance movement as cold hearted terrorists ready to use same method as empire if even worse methods (what happen to imperial family we don't even know, they killed them???) because that's the way many fascist regime depict resistance organisations. "Kleyah" say "that's how revolutions are done" hummm no sorry, you don't need to be a terrorist necessarly and if you take this path your "revolution" might not interest that much people and you could actually give reason to your ennemy. In Andor that's the resistance who have spies in the empire and is ready to betray anyone in reality like french resistance that was Nazi that had spies in the resistance... Luthen also ready to sacrifice 31 rebels just to an hypothetic better occasion... all this fucked up. Those rebels i would never want to join them. Grand Admiral Thrawn in Heir to the Empire is a good example of how to do an Imperial Warlord correctly. There's enough characterization in the novels for the reader to understand how he's able to maintain a large force and avoid capture by the New Republic. People seem to think it's more mature, smarter, for a story to have that kind of nuance and that isn't always the case. The prequels are one such exception, but Palpatine's evil is hard to dispute: the grey-areas just come from the "good guys" being very flawed.

    While I will agree, this episode is fundamentally slow. There are elements that are not completely well thought out. Your assessment, but it is destroying George Lucas, on purpose, is not even naïve, it’s vindictive. You want Lucasfilm to fail. It is your expressed intent to highlight even the most minor faults in each show.
    You would be too ignorant to know that, but when the fighter pilots are flying, and they are engaging, multiple bogeys, they most definitely communicate with each other, and tell each other which way to go so they can coordinate their attack on those bogeys, especially when they’re out numbered. This is how dog fights are fought. It is taught at every high-level flying academy in the US military. Your ignorance of it does not make it bad. It makes you look up fool.
    Also, during a dogfight, a pilot will call out if they’ve been hit where they’ve been hit how bad the damages, they will also call out if they have hit any targets, and how many bogeys remain. Your utter ignorance of air combat tactics, protocols for pilots during close in air attacks, your ignorance of coordinating an egress from a combat zone, in a coordinated directed fashion, does not make that seem bad. If anything, it means that scene as realistic as it could possibly be. So your analysis comes across simply as ignorant.
    Hey man, I’m sure you seem to be driving from saying this is ruining George Lucas on purpose, clearly demonstrates an ignorance of the relationship Jon Favreau, and George Lucas have. They have a very tight, knit relationship. The fact that you are completely unaware of that, is further proof of your ignorance.
    If you would pay closer attention to things that are going on in this season of the Mandalorian, you would understand that Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and all the other contributing riders are building out from enjoying being out on his own, and just worrying about Grogu, toy, much much bigger galaxy, impact on a larger group of people by the actions of those involved in the storyline so far, and expanding the world building, it started out, simplistic, grew with more characters working together, expanded the level of enemies, and now has a question of how the hell does she get off that freezer. Because she was on the bridge and it was clearly stated in the last episode of season two that everyone on the bridge was killed. So, you have to wonder who is planning this.
    But instead of looking at this story, as opening new chapters into a much larger story, you are so enthralled and delighted and overjoyed with what you perceive as the deconstruction of George Lucas in the Star Wars world building, but your spite, your ignorance, your hatred has so overcome you that you simply cannot see the forest for the trees.
    This is the equivalent of daytime talk show trash TV. Why you may ask because it is baseless first of all. It lacks any knowledge of anything that’s going on. You break down a close in dogfight as if you had any idea what actually takes place during a close in dogfight , when you are criticizing, the very actions that actually happened during such a bug bite. And if you don’t think you were not meant to be left, guessing where all those short range tie interceptor’s came from, then you are an utter fool.
    If you want to write trash, maybe you should write some novels that will sell five copies. But to artificially pitch Jon Favreau against George Lucas, based on at best conjecture, is the height of hubris.
    As for the Doctor purging scene, he possess technology that the imperial remnant and warlords which existed in legends as well. If you had any knowledge of Star Wars, needed to complete their cloning experiments. So they needed Dr. Purshing to buy into the ultimate value of his work, versus the perceived, Tierney of not allowing him to continue work they could save billions if not trillions of lives. And he was so stupid. He fell right into the plot. And just to make sure he didn’t say anything is “Communications officer” turn the mind flayer all the way up, simply to make sure her tracks are covered. Wow leaving question open has to do and how she was rescued from Moff Gideons cruiser.
    And by the way, escaping those tie fighters by following change Din Djarin had given set up, obviously his reinstatement into the way. It also allows Bo Catan to enter into this group as well. And also allows her to slip to the Armorer that she saw the one beast that made the Mandylor, the Mandylor.
    This sets her up with a way to game a ruling position without having to kill fight or engage with Din Djarin, by going back into the living waters, and killing the beast. Which, in truth is how the Mandylor became the Mandylor.
    Maybe if you weren’t spending so much time, hating on the show, hating on Jon Favreau, sharing for the failure of these shows, you may open your eyes ears and mind long enough to pay attention to very subtle and very blatant world building story points.
    But no, you have let your rigid distain and couples with your ignorance of how things are done running your imagination, rampant in the most absolutely empty, minded, biased, ignorant, possible way

    What I thought was really stupid was that the season started out with Mando needing to find a robot which is somehow crucial to him being able to find the waters, so he goes to get his first robot partner, who is now a statue but could be fixed with a special part. So he goes to get the special part from the lady on Tattooine, who gives him an R2 unit instead. Mando then goes to Mandalor, tells the R2 unit to go scout the mines for the water. When robot vanishes, Mando decides to go himself and tells Grogu that the robot wasn't really necessary in the first place, Mando was just too lazy to do the work himself, making the first two episodes a complete waste of time.
    The thing that has annoyed me about JF's writing since the beginning is that all he does is send Mando off on one side quest after another. Now he's sending Mando off on side quests that aren't even necessary in the first place.

    I still like to believe this is all happening because of kk’s interference with Grogu being sent back to mando. If I remember right Gina carrano was gonna get her own show and that was gonna expand on the new republic.
    These had to of caused problems in the writing room. Especially since his overlords are wanting people to like the sequels but don’t have the rangers of the new republic to flesh that out.
    Mando season three just feels like they were meant to be doing this without grogu but we’re forced to add him in taking away the storyline of mando accepting what happened and finding new meaning (it’s obvious that they want him to become the new mandalore). I just have a very strong suspicion that the rangers show that was gonna happen would involve the scientist at some point. It all just feels compressed.
    Its all on Disney and lucasfilm they just needed mando to succeed and in some or many ways have interfered with it. I mean the rumour of Jon favreau threatening to quit while it was already in production should show it affected what happened.

    Actors emote with their facial expressions. You put a helmet on them, and you cut out a major part of their "character" - unfortunately some writers feel that the way to get around this is by giving them more dialogue. But I agree that this dialogue doesn't actually have to be as obvious as they're making it.
