Are Lucaasfilm ever going to stop destroying the Original Trilogy? And, why do they hate the Jedi so much? We may never get those answers. But what did you think of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show? And of course, if you enjoyed the video (how could you not) hit the “Like”. Subscribing and sharing the video is always a big help. And of course the bell. Cheers!
I don’t think it’s as bad as the other projects! Definitely underwhelming but I’ve learned to not have high expectations! I’m just happy Vader is back lol hopefully it gets better.
@@lawjef it wasn't necessary for them to run like chickens with their heads cut off. Simply keep a low profile and be on their way. Unless stopped by the empire. Also, that's how the jedi got away? Seriously? By throwing a flimsy roof shade in their way? This writing is garbage!
That chase with Leia was sooooo bad I assumed it had to be a set up from her parents to teach her not to go in the woods on her own. They were obviously Purposefully trying to look like they were struggling to catch her and not hurt her at all.
Well, The bounty hunters did express a lot of misgivings about kidnapping a child. I read it as they weren’t really trying since their hearts weren’t in it 🤷🏾♂️
@@apjoeapjoe ...that's not why at all. They wanted to give the impression that Leia is an amazing, special child that was actually outrunning the kidnappers. They did it again in the next episode when they had her outrun Kenobi... and not just outrun him but strait up dust him. The issue of course is that the kid playing Leia is the worlds slowest 10 year old, so everyone else has to realllllly sell the idea that she's getting the better of them.
That's why whenever they have a kidnapping chase scene, hollywood usually goes the Home Alone route with traps and goofy antics. That's because it's the only plausible way to sell incompetent adults vs. a very talented child. Disney hires lame and lazy people that can't even do normal tropes right.
Disney has milked Star Wars very successfully so far. Sure, Solo flopped and Rise of Skywalker underperformed (in 2015 Disney expected to make a lot more than 1 billion), but the sequels still made a lot of profit. And Disney+ is a massive success.
You just know that the whole "When the time comes he must be trained" dialogue between Obi-Wan and Owen was written explicitly for the trailer because it's entirely irrelevant to the show's plot, it makes no sense within the show's established continuity and characterization yet it perfectly works as bait-and-switch to fool the audience into thinking the story is going to take a different direction.
But we know that Kenobi has no contact with Luke until A New Hope. As it stands, I would say that the image of young Luke pretending to be a pilot is the bait which was switched for Leia.
During the filming of the 1977 movie, George Lucas ended up in the emergency room from a suspected heart attack. Luckily for Lucas it was just stress from work. NO ONE working on Star Wars today breaks a sweat unless it is to engage with trolls on twitter. sad.
Alan Ladd Jr. was the main principle at Fox that kept the funding going when all the executives wanted to pull the plug. We lost Alan Ladd Jr. this year. We should all raise a drink to him and thank him for all he has done in Star Wars and films like Blade Runner.
Things Lucasfilm writers and directors need to start doing: 1. Watching the old material to avoid these ridiculous plotholes 2. Learning about the old characters' demeanor and motivation 3. Writing actually consistent stories 4. Thinking
they need to get a lore master on all these shows to review the scripts and footage, honestly its not that hard to remain consistent, other movies do it better and have a far more complicated story to work with
This is what you get when Disney would much rather go quantity over Quality. They are pumping the shows out without any care just to keep people subscribed to Disney+
@@ict113090 I agree. They have lead it towards a weird path without a super organized story. The first phases leading up to endgame were at least organized in a way
I recently read that Grey DeLisle got the part as Azula’s voice actor in “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” because while the other auditioning actors were screaming the role’s lines, she understood that a character that powerful had _no need to raise her voice._ (Mark Hamill played Azula’s father.) No one in the show ever has to tell you that this 14-year-old girl is one of her world’s most powerful warriors or most intelligent strategists. She doesn’t have to shout to make anyone follow orders. DeLisle’s acting makes it believable. She only starts screaming when she’s falling apart. Anyways, Netflix is going to ruin one of my favorite characters just like Disney is doing in the Star Wars franchise.
@@eve-llblyat2576 Maybe Disney doesn't want to find writers because they really don't give a damn about the fan base. What is amazing to me is that the fan fiction mini-films are far better written and made than anything these hacks put out.
It makes sense that Obi-Wan wouldn't want to get involved. Because you know... Leiea is basically royalty, her parents are basically royalty, how the hell is this not a huge issue accross the galaxy that ROYALTY has been abducted ?! Send the army ! Disney are just too incompetent to realise that and gave him a lame excuse instead.

That my only problem right now That it's just brushed aside that Reva kidnapped a royal/ senator child Shouldn't this be a stupid move and be punishable Or why is it not wise to alarm the army or whatever that Leia was gone. Why rescue her in secret
Leia’s adoptive father wanted it kept quiet that she had been kidnapped because he was paranoid and wanted to make absolutely certain nobody would have any reason look into her past.
I always liked this quote from Stargate "Never underestimate the intelligence of your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."
If intelligence and sensitivity was the norm, they wouldn't be sought after traits. The masses are in general unintelligent, uninformed, and lack sensitivity.
@@markhowd7117 The show. And I was like... come on, writers, you n I know I'm your bitch, no need to pretend you love me.
This was the perfect opportunity by Disney to dissect what it means to be a jedi, because Obi-wan was THE quintessential Jedi throughout the prequels. He's the pure form of the ideal jedi who understands the greater good, and it's alright to be torn apart by guilt but this guy... is kind of just a broken loser. He doesn't behave in a way thats in character to everything we knew about Obi-wan up until this point. Also side note I love how sometimes it seems like less of the characters speaking and more of the message disney is trying to push on the nose. The "She's just as important as he is" is so silly, even if the scene were to make sense a distraught set of parents would do more than leverage someones love for another child while pleading to save theirs.
@@phinyo2066 Nah man. They both could be but Obi wan sacrificed his master, his love, and his brother and still held onto the ideals of the jedi all the way into the REAL end of the saga.
Had to reply. "Obi-wan was THE quintessential Jedi throughout the prequels" - What? Are you as insane as the Disney writers for Star Wars? Clearly you missed the approximately 50 (literally) instances in the prequels that proved beyond any doubt that Obi-Wan was a dipshit failure of a jedi including, but not limited to - oh no, not on your life! - him actually admitting to having failed (more than once, no less). Please - I implore you - explain to me how Obi-Wan saying to Anakin "Never lose your lightsabre, it is your LIFE" and promptly losing his lightsabre, fits in with your belief that he's the quintessential jedi. Were all the jedi doing this? Were there lessons on how to lose your lightsabre that all jedi had to excel at before they were knighted? if not, then Obi-Wan isn't the quintessential jedi. Speaking of being 'knighted', he didn't even face the Trials that are traditional for all jedi-to-be. How about when Yoda casually ordered Obi-Wan to bring in Jango Fett for questioning. You can go back and check the scene if you doubt me but Yoda and Windu didn't look dubiously at one another and then ask if Obi-Wan could manage the job. No, they hold to the maxim that the jedi DO or Do NOT, remember? So Yoda simply said, 'Bring him in' because they considered him a jedi and jedi can be trusted to do what they are tasked to do. You did see this bit, yes? So how come you failed to appreciate how much Obi-Wan left to be desired of a jedi when he promptly went into an embarrassing struggle with Fett that included him again 'hinting' to the audience that he was cocking it all up when he said, "Oh no" before before dragged off the platform after kicking Fett off it while attached to him. To be fair, the sequences were visually stunning and exciting but all told, Obi-Wan ended up defeated by Fett and offered up as monster food in an arena alongside Anakin. One of the principle points of the entire Star wars saga (by George Lucas as opposed to the Disney shite) was that Anakin should never have been trained, and how it all went wrong under Obi-Wan. Don't take my comment too hard though. I can't say I've ever come across a single Star Wars fan who thought any differently about Obi-Wan as you.
Star Wars lore already shat itself with the whole balance thing - implying no matter how great the hero's victory the dark side will balance it out somehow.
Nah, spirituality can also lead to evil stuff, in the Srar Wars universe is the drak side. But they require constant conflict as a narrative tool to create SW stories and milk the cow forever. The problem is that their idas of conflict are really lame
@@30noir The way George Lucas designed the force, the light IS the balance, the dark IS the imbalance. Light is when the force gets to act naturally and be on its own, only flowing through a good jedi like a cable or conduit. Dark is when a force user corrupts, perverts, and twists the force for their own ends. The message of Star Wars is that there is NO situation in which pursuing a Dark path will ever leave you personally uncorrupted. The use of absolute power to get what you want, coupled with it *working,* will always make you want to do it again, and again, and again, until that's all you do. Conversely, altruism (the natural existence and balance of the force) will literally never not make you a better person as a result of committing it, as there is very often much less, if any, personal benefit to being altruistic. It is the difference between pleasure and joy. Pleasure you take for yourself, it exists in the moment, and it goes away, making you want to take it for yourself again. Joy lasts forever, and it is only a thing that can be shared with others, never taken from them.
Anyone else wondering how Kenobi is supposed to beat Darth Vader after neglecting training for ten years? He’s rusty whereas Vader has been hunting Jedi. I wish Lucasfilm would plan and think about what they are writing
their focus is selling tickets & subscriptions. they are aware of the inconsistencies, etc. they have teams of people to point out those flaws. they decide that there are more important things to viewers and, sadly, the revenues (and too many reviews) back that up
People should have known something was gonna be wrong with the show the moment Filoni had to step in and tell Deborah Chow that Maul can not be in the show. The fact Maul was in the show for a while proves how much of a mess Lucasfilm's story group is. Maul doesn't even know Obi-Wan survived Order 66 until 6 years later.
Their final confrontation was also plenty enough for me. It was swift, tense, and had real gravitas to it, like it stepped out of a samurai movie. Kinda like how Georgie-boy was inspired by samurai movies for the original trilogy.
This was my biggest indication that they didn't care about the story. Not knowing every teensy bit of lore in a 45 year franchise? For sure. But not understanding Maul's importance to the literal title character of your show, let alone the fact that this means she didn't even watch their fight in Rebels? It's clear she didn't care about the franchise or Obi Wan's arc at all
"You know who we are?" "Yup, Jedi." "NO! we're inquisitors! We hunt Jedi!" "Well you have Lightsabers right?" "Yes" "You are force sensitive?" "Well yeah but what are you getting at?" "You 3 sound like Jedis to me" *the three inquisitors look at each other and pull their sabers out to kill each other*
I know it sounds unbelievable, but something very similar to that actually happened in a disney comic. An inquisitor and some purge troopers hunted down a jedi and cornered him, but the jedi activated order 66 and he purge troopers somehow attacked the inquisitor.
Bar Owner: 'You have lightswords right' Inquisitor : 'Yes we ha....... it's a lightsaber' Bar Owner: 'Ehh, same thing' Inquisitor: 'F my life.... Kill everyone'
If he was still good with a lightsaber and the force, he would overshadow the star of the show, and Disney can´t have that! The name of the show is "SW: Reeva and the Revenge of the Todller ", it´s just that the people who made the show´s title and openning credits didn´t get the memo.
I disagree, the lightsaber is the most obvious thing for a jedi to have, anyone can where robes but only a jedi can wield a lightsaber (and other force users, you get it).... In the prequels in the middle of nowhere how did Anakin know Qui-gon was a jedi? oh that's right, he recognised his "laser sword" (and I hate myself for saying that, but the point still stands)... also at this time kanan jarrus is around how did he not get recognised as a jedi sooner? he hides his lightsaber in pieces as to not be noticed, the lightsaber is just too obvious and dangerous an item for a jedi to carry around in this time period... I agree he should be combat training, in the comics obi-wan trained against sand-people in the desert to keep his skills up. he clearly has had practise with a blaster, he's shooting more accurately than crosshair (exaggeration) so there's that... but the lightsaber is too obvious a weapon for him to use it sticks out like a sore thumb, and I thought it was really weird when he just had it on his belt showing it off so carelessly to the dock workers when he left tattooine....
@@simonegalagar6751 I get what your saying and I’m glad you read the comics and agree that him just having it on his belt is silly now that he’s out to save Leia but it doesn’t change anything. I’m absolutely disgusted with how Disney represents “broken” characters in Star Wars. First it was Luke, who hid away with full knowledge that his sister would need him to help the resistance, it only made Luke a pathetic coward. And now it’s Obi wan, his character was always meant to be one of the old, stoic crusader. He felt haunted and blamed himself for the past but he consistently never stopped training or preparing, as Luke is the only true chance of defeating the emperor and Vader. Obi wan has to be at the top of his game for the sake of the galaxy and for the son of the man he failed to save. Kenobi is a general and war hero, took on multiple sith, he’s so brilliant that he was known as the “negotiator” and was one of the greatest duellists in the order. It’s character destroying that none of those aspects are shown in the Kenobi show, only to have him be an unreliable fool who slips up 2 minutes after lying and can barely use the force
@@PlayerPaul bruh are u joking, "he continues his training, not with lightsabers, but with the force". Now don't get me wrong, I love the star wars universe, and I take no pleasure in ripping apart this crap that Disney is spewing out, but I have no better way of explaining it that recommending that you watch the video above a second time, because as much as I want to love the show, it had an awful foundation, and it's falling apart as each episode comes out.
This “rematch of the century” was forced, unearned, poorly written, adds nothing to the story and most importantly completely ruins the canon of A New Hope

The fact that he's strong enough to kill Maul in rebels means that either he got back into his training on a hardcore level after this show, or they just didn't think about it.
Exactly, in Rebels which is just a few years after this show Obi-Wan seems like the character we saw in ANH. Once Maul sensed he was hiding someone Obi-Wan knew he had no choice but to kill him, and showed himself to still be quite capable. However this show has shown that had Maul shown up at this point in time Obi-Wan would've gotten utterly destroyed. How can he defend Luke from any threat if he's so weak himself?

They never said he forgot how to use his lightsaber, only that he intentionally chooses to not use it to avoid suspicion. In the newest episode he’s using go against stormtroopers and to deflect blaster bolts left and right and doesn’t mess up once, even when he’s still somewhat injured from his encounter with Vader. He just needs to strengthen his connection to the force again which is what he’s slowly doing

It still boggles my mind that in this show the towns people and Obi-Wan know what Inquisitors are but in Rebels the Ghost Crew that travels the galaxy had never heard of them until the Grand Inquisitor showed up. And on top of that it's really hard to buy the other Inquisitors thinking that Reva is being over the top evil when in Rebels we see the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister slaughter an entire transport just to get one force sensitive child.

What really bothers in the show is that Obi-Wan wasn't even refreshing his lightsaber training at least, but he wasn't even doing it. How the actual @$$ is he going to defend Luke if he had forgotten all of his lightsaber skills? I mean, he lives in an unknown location and Obi-Wan could've find any stick to practice or something in relate inside the cave. They made Obi-Wan absolutely hopeless.
Kathleen Kennedy obviously demanded that Obi-Wan be an ineffectual loser like Luke was in Last Jedi. @@chrisquinn3377 I understand why Obi-Wan cuts off from the Force, but I don't understand why he couldn't even practice his lightsaber forms unless he has to require by using the Force to conduct lightsaber techniques.
Force users have to be open to the force to properly, efficiently use a lightsaber. Even more so to be a master of it. It's why seldom few non-force sensitives can wield a lightsaber. If you're not in-tune with the force when using a lightsaber, you're very liable to cut a limb.
Well. It’s not that easy to lose that sort of training though. When you learn to fight you keep the sense and muscle memory even into old age. You lose your strength by not training, but you don’t lose the theory. It’s like saying you forget how to draw or how to clean teeth by not practicing for a period after going through school and then doing it as a career for years. You might make a few mistakes if you drop it for a while and then pick it back up but you won’t totally forget everything you learned. I do sword training for HEMA irl. But I haven’t sparred with anyone since the pre coof era. I didn’t forget how to do it in the slightest though
@@Maxxis751 the flaws of the Jedi were NOT in their order and way of life. George showed that the Jedi became hypocrites and lost their way. Towarda the end of the clone wars, the Jedi were no longer "keepers of the peace," and were now actually soldiers. To double down, their focus on politics has clouded their idea of what Jedi are meant to be. For compassionate, selfless beings they, in some ways, ended rather distant and selfish. Especially towards Anakin who is their messiah. so to put simply, the flaws of the Jedi were in their inability to remember why they're Jedi to begin with. Disney is saying "tHe JeDi bAd cAuSe tHeY lEt AnKaIn gO bAd." Or they're saying the Jedi bad to push their own idea of what a pure character is. So far it's pure s**t
Okay in defense of Owen, this was what happened in ANH. Owen told Luke repeatedly to forget about his father and called Obi-Wan a “crazy old hermit”. So this is one instance in which Owen’s consistently shown to dislike the Jedi and, since he doesn’t know about Vader, believes that as Obi-Wan says in the movie “would lead you down a damn fool’s mission the same as he did your father.”
Their biggest problem is everyone (directors) want to add their own character into the universe and make them unique, but there is only so many unique things you can do before it gets ridiculously stupid. The first sign of disaster for Star Wars was signing J.J.Abrams to film the force awakens as we all know he hates the prequels. There is only so much Jon and Dave can do to rescue the franchise from the dumps.
They are, they watched Alec Guiness version of Obi and he has to end up like that, problem is the writers are not good enough to really have figured out how to turn this into a story, it's just things happening to a persona we know. Writers have forgone any classic story arc.
There is another problem in Star Wars and particularly marvel and dc. Power creep. In the same vein you say of constantly having to add powers, tech and characters that stand out. It ends up with hack writers (of which PLAGUE these industries) going with the “bigger is better” route. This is why you end up with Rey having force heal from the dead powers, or the super duper mega Death Star +1. It’s utterly unbelievable in the capeshit comics region. Where you have characters having the “cosmic mega mobius multiversal omnispeed cosmic matter manipulation dimensional force” that allows them to bench press realities for 10 morbillion reps without breaking a sweat. It becomes so mind numbingly boring and insipid.
If the directors want there own characters they need to write agood story in another time-line and stop pissing off fans by trying to destroy the original characters so their characters come out better.
But JJ didnt introduce anything unique or new - horse back riding isnt exactly sci fi of the future - and maybe that was Disney's strategy all along. It certainly appears to be profit maximizing (ex Solo) and they only need one baby yoda every couple of years so....
It’s simple George sold Star Wars to the wrong company. Till this day I honestly will never truly get why he sold it to begin with. Some people say it’s because he had an insanely debt that needed to be paid, which makes no sense. And some say it’s because he wanted to get back at the fandom, which also makes no sense.
Bob Iger kinda screwed him over. Lucas was promised to still write the stories and to only sell the rights. Halfway through the contract Iger told Lucas that he'll have no creative impact. Lucas wanted to back out of the deal but Iger told him that - this far in the contract - it would cost Lukas a huge sum
I mean a large portion of the SW fandom was asking for it. After the Prequels George got so much hate and unnecesary crap from fans that he probably thought it would be better to just leave it all behind, and im sure there was a time when he thought Disney would do a good job with the franchise, but that clearly wasnt the case...
well my dude he is also rather old and his motivation / energy certainly couldnt be what it used to be. he isnt ignorant of his mortality. also, disney has made a small fortune (actually a large one) from ruining SW. But they are giving people what they want, apparently. Sad but true. TL;DR - the only way to make money from SW may have been to sell to a buyer who could dumb it down, remove original concepts, ignore logic or continuity, and sell it to the masses
I walked away from this dumpster fire after The Force Awakens. When Leia hugged Rey instead of Chewie I knew everything I needed to know about Disney. And yes, Jar Jar Abrams said it was a mistake, but that's a lie, that was deliberate, just look at the way the scene was shot. They tore down the EU, dismantled Lucasarts, and took away the comic rights from Dark Horse and gave them back to Marvel. Lucas sold his company to Disney to protect his company and his workers...how many of the original workers are even still there? The Force Awakens was the last Star Wars movie I saw in the theatre, and Rogue One was the first movie I didn't see in the theatre and the last movie I would watch at all. I give Disney nothing and mostly tune in just to confirm that their still following the direction that I anticipated they would...and they still are. I feel for the fans more than anything. Personally, I'm happy with the Star Wars I got, it's already more than I ever needed. The less contradictions, the better. Keep up the good work Robot Head. "Everybody kill the fucking hipsters."
I should have known to walk away after Force Awakens. Having Han Solo killed off like he was, so disrespectfully, along with how they ruined his relationship with Leia, ruined any chance of him and luke reuniting, and also just kill him off as if he was meant to just get murdered by his only son just to mimic how Obiwan died in the original. I didn’t see how bad Force Awakens was until I watched Rogue One, and rewatched the unedited original trilogy. By the time Last Jedi came about I was still excited but felt uneasy about how they were handling it, then after watching it the first time I was surprised, then after a second watch I realized just how badly the writers seemed to want kill off anything to do with Star Wars’ original trilogy.
I'm like you, except I watched Rogue One with the hope Disney could redeem itself and not produce shit. Safe to say it is the last movie I have seen. The only Disney content I watch is via these types of videos. Jar Jar destroyed so much canon in one film, I was done. Missing all 4 in a scene is still unforgivable and shows a hatred for fans and a complete lack of understanding of Star Wars (which is friendship). So I don't care how bad it gets because you can't kill that which is already dead.
The subdivision of star wars fans into "story lovers" and "brand lovers" is spot on! I guess, there's just more money to be made off the "brand lovers"... that's why we get endless memberberries instead of good writing in the new star wars content.
Plus georges star wars only allowed you to be a story lover and consequently maybe you would buy a dope toy in the early 2000s making the brand loving a byproduct. Now it is really just about the brand.

Obi Wan being depressed and having given up is completely different than the sad old Luke from Last Jedi because he has very good reason to be that way. He endured an incredibly traumatic loss that the entire state of the galaxy is now rubbing in his face as he hides from a very real threat. Luke was a dude who just needed to have a 5 minute conversation with a kid about a misunderstanding but instead decides to become a pathetic loser for the next 20 years until a stunning and brave Mary Sue comes to save him.
EXACTLY. Luke still had all his friends and the new republic to help him. He just gave middle finger to all of them and let First Order take over. Not to mention the first order didn't have fraction of the power of former Empire. If he rallyed the republic support right after Ben left he could have still won.
Yes, I agree OB1 is far more justified in being this way. But the question becomes.....is it a story worth telling? I'd say no. We know by the time of the OT, OB1 must see Luke as the only hope for the galaxy, so by the end of this series he needs to be resolute and hopeful. So we know the end point. Nevermind the retcons though: OB1 already knew Vader was Anakin, and he should be aware Vader is alive. This one is inexcusable.
OBW was also supposed to be a highly trained Jedi Master, who mastered the skill of controlling emotions and feelings (its their core fucking training), so if the whole world would to go to shits - he'd be the last one standing all high hoped and optimistic, yet the idiots who write now days made him poor sad sissy. I honestly hate everything the modern writers do, with passion.
In both cases its not what the charackter would have done and therefore basic characterassasination. Wether or not Luke or Obiwan was killed more painfully by disney kindof doesnt matter, does it. By the way i have serius doubts about that *"he has very good reasons to be that way"*
My first thought watching the new Obi Wan series was why he became so incredibly weak after only 10 years. He was a powerful master and now can bearly use the force like an untrained Padawan.
@@sheevinopalpatino4782 You either used the force, or you don't used the force. there is no in-between. Yoba stated that fact in empire. If your force-user and not using the force, it because you chose not to use the force, not from a lack of practice.
The real question we should be asking is "You know a lightsaber can deflect blaster fire?" They suck at making close combat lightsaber scenes, they're also forgetting how Tatooine is run by the Hutt family so the empire couldn't control it
P-politics? Discussion of politics in a world where a global dictatorship is established? N-no, we can't talk about it! Better look we have little Leia Organa here, is she really cute??

You really think the Empire wants a costly war, that will fuck up their illegal arms and drug distribution, just so they can conquer worthless worlds of nothing but dirt and sand!?
Unlearning your impressive light saber skills after 10 years of not training with it? Maybe. Unlearning how to use the force after being one of the strongest force users? No way.
I get your point but obi wan was never one of the strongest force users. He just was clever and used his defensive form better than any other, mastered it.

I wish to this day George hadn't sold Starwars. It was unique, an epic saga and the circle was closed. Now it's just a mess made by a company who never cared about it. They just wanted to use the brand for money. And they know that many so called "fans" will consume anything bc they have no idea about the spirit of Starwars.
lmao. Star Wars has always primarily been aboot making money. With the exception of A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, the Star Wars movies have prioritized selling toys over writing good characters and a good story. And George Lucas already run Star Wars into the ground with the prequels and special editions.
4:50 - As someone who was a huge fan of Star Wars Rebels the inquisitors were lower level force users and were more like henchmen than full on Sith Masters. They were also a private sub project of Vader whom might have been building his own force to take out the Emperor eventually
Yeah this dude doesn't know the lore I guess. The rule of two exists for Sith Lords. The Inquistiors are not that. Just enforcers, used to hunt Jedi specifically. Like the Gestapo.
@@thealgorithmluvsu3788 What lore bro? Disney already changed Star Wars into the Palpatine Saga. In the original Star Wars there was never ONE MENTION of the word Sith. In fact, Vader was just considered an evil Jedi until Lucas dreamed up midiclorians. In the prequel trilogy they introduced the rule of 2, but it had already been broken in the Clone Wars. So, I ask you again, what lore?
@@l.0781 In Disney, Legends, or the Timothy Zahn novels? Vader sure seems to be running the Inquisitors on Obi Wan. Has Disney wrote that as the new cannon?
They could’ve fixed the part where Obi Wan says “I’m not the right person for this” by implying that Obi wan doubts himself and think he will fail. But I’m Disney made it seem like Obi wan was terrified of Darth Vader. As much as I love Vader /Anakin, I’d still love to see Obi Wan thrive just as he faced pain in the past.
Still a young Obi-Wan who is afraid of Vader, it doesn't make any sense at all. He defeated Anakin when he was at his peak, Vader never came close to that state again. Not_Even_Close. Obi-Wan has no reason to fear him. He may be afraid that Vader has an army. But nothing more.

@@BiriBiri925 Vader right now is in his prime (different from Anakin’s prime). He’s not as powerful as Anakin, but he is far more dangerous, because he used the past 10 years to learn how to turn every weakness his suit had into a strength. Anakin just used brute force with his fighting, but Vader is far more precise, he waits his opponent out and learns how they fight. Once their Achilles heel has been identified, he sweeps the leg and the fight’s over. Not to mention, Vader had been doing all of this while Obi-Wan had been prioritizing keeping low. Obi wan at his prime could probably stand a chance, but that’s far gone in the past at this point. His skills have eroded away from not practicing, due to keeping low, making sure not to draw attention to himself. He has every right to be scared shitless of Vader at this point.
@@BiriBiri925 What are you talking about?? Obi-Wan only defeated Vader because he was very arrogant and tried to do the exact movement that Kenobi did to Maul. But if it wasn't because of that, Vader would've won. So it's pretty obvious that now Obi-Wan would be terrified of seeing his former apprentice, who he thought was dead, now murdering people recklessly. For me it makes total sense that Obi acted the way he did. And Vader was always powerful, even now. Besides all this, Obi-Wan didn't use his lightsaber during 10 years, and that doesn't mean that he forgot how to fight but instead he is very rusty and struggles to re-learn everything again. And I think this also solves the problem from the prequels and A New Hope, where Obi-Wan has a totally different fight style and this show solves that really nicely
Ye I dont understand why he fears Darth vader so much. I assumed the ptsd and trauma he has came from the events that happend by the result of order 66 and how he lost his apprentice to the dark side which caused the jedi to fall, not his direct confrontation with Anakin.
I love how Reva has such an amazing plan, of exploiting the connection between Bail and Obi-Wan (that Palpatine would already have known) by having Leia kidnapped to draw him out. Weird that she didn't just read Bail's mind, (given she is so ambitious) because her plan depends on Bail knowing where Obi-Wan is or contacting him directly. And no one is following Bail when he goes straight to Obi-Wan's cave. You'd think she might have hired a bounty hunter or something... like Episode II or Episode V given this is such a priority?
In the last episode she put a tracker in Leia’s droid. Which begs the question, why not just put a tracker on Bail’s ship in the first place? He would have led her directly to Obi-Wan.
which fans? us or the people who buy tickets and subscriptions? there are 2 parties at fault here and no one is forcing people to watch SW in such huge numbers. sad but true
Obi Wan being depressed actually makes a lot of sense in my opinion after everything he has been through, and there should be a reason in the show why he is so hopeful in A New Hope. But everything else you say, i agree 100%. Really good video!
Why we appreciate depressed characters boggles me. Come on. If a jedi master such as obi wan be depressed that long is stupid. Plus real life is depressing as it is, why should we appreciate depressed characters and not someone that already conquered it.
As my dad said the other day: Obiwan is one of the most consistent characters in Star Wars And it's true, we all knew what to expect from him yet they butchered him and made him a cowardly pussy instead of one of the most righteous and powerful Jedis ever
Lucasfilm has a tendency to un-develop characters so they can re-develop them in a terrible way, since Obi-Wan already has 2 complete character arcs that segment his life story into 2 parts with very little to be left up to interpretation, they feel the need to overwrite his prequel character arc in order to make him "grow" as a character, instead of taking a developed character and having them retain their development and maybe have them learn a few new things or settle old plot holes.
@@octodaddy877 but that's bullshit, Obiwan is someone who is always courageous, having him be a pussy for 10 years straight without touching his lightsaber is nothing but stupid I agree that he isn't perfect and completely stoic, but they could've done something different like maybe show him training often but sometimes he gets flashbacks of what happened and just skips training that day Or on the usual hour where he communicates with Qui Gon he just decides to not communicate with him and falls asleep instead, but they should've still showed he is the most righteous jedi we've seen
@@octodaddy877 Obi-Wan is my favorite Star Wars character and I'm not disappointed. People are mad about Reva for some reason and it's becoming too much of an issue. She's given us an enemy rather than having Vader in every scene which makes five his scenes more impact. Obi-Wan was overwhelmed when he ran until Vader but catching Leia the way he did was a big step forward because that required a strong connection to the force. He went after Leia as soon as he woke up so he not an old coward or anything close to it. I think he last two episodes could be really good and I hope they run at least an hour each.
I'm happy Disney is so utterly inept at anything Star Wars, it makes the matter of writing off anything they release as bad fanfic that has nothing to do with the story itself waaaay easier.
The Clone Wars Season 7. The Mandalorian. Rogue One. Rebels. hell, I like the first two sequels and parts of Solo too. There are valid reasons to dislike the Jedi. Exploring these reasons was part of the purpose of the Prequels, along with showing how democracies can fall to tyranny, and how good intentions do not guarantee good outcomes. However, ruining established characters because one doesn't know how to write them well - or worse, to push a new character whom nobody cares about - is not the same thing as earnestly and incisively examining in-universe ideas.
I would still very much like to see a movie or show that shows the side of the Jedi order that is kind of fucked up...taking kids away from their parents, teaching their adherents to block emotion and love. There is a good story to tell about this stuff, but Disney ain't the company to do it. It would take a writer and director with intelligence and love for Star Wars that could tackle that
@@dandewizzle2479 Well the Jedi never kidnapped kids. They heavily recommended to parents they were taken to be trained to avoid mess, perhaps bribed or bargained with, but definitely not stolen at bladepoint.
@@dandewizzle2479 don't know about the kidnapping part but yes the Jedi had their faults. Their insistence on avoiding the Dark Side led to them not even sensing the Sith as they orchestrated the Clone War. The biggest sin they had was being peacekeepers while turning a blind eye to the rot of the Republic. They knew of the corruption in the Senate but decided to stay largely neutral which again aided the Sith. They should've never gotten involved in the Clone War but they did unfortunately.

If episode 5 is correct, then they've done that as well. Reva flat-out tried betraying Vader....and he DIDN'T kill her. I could barely buy him leaving her alive with the tracker plan, he would have just killed her for incompetence THEN followed the tracker, but this is just unforgivable. Vader is so intolerant of incompetence that he will kill subordinates that fuck up, what the HELL is he doing letting Reva live after she flat out tries *betraying* him? Remember Fallen Order? Remember how he killed Trilla/The Second Sister no questions asked simply because she was being pulled by the Light Side and considering switching sides after being beaten? If that's enough for him to execute her on the spot, then Reva shouldn't even get a chance.
@@jacksimpson8529 i don't see where you get the implication that he didn't kill her. he put a saber through her chest, is that not gonna kill her? otherwise he would've dragged her along to the ship. also, it's already been shown that vader in fact forgives people, moreover he even _explicitly_ stated that palpatine is not as forgiving as he his (implying that he's forgiving in the first place).
@@mikayari185 It didn't kill her as a kid, when she was an untrained Jedi Youngling, so it isn't gonna kill her here as a full grown adult in touch with the Dark Side, which in Disney's new canon is basically the ticket to resurrection if you're pissed enough (Maul) or have a clone ready (Palpatine). Reeva explicitly hates Vader for killing her fellow Younglings in the Temple Purge, and now he's just stabbed her and left her to die. She's got more than enough reason to hate him enough that that lightsaber impalement won't kill her, even though it REALLY should. They showed Reeva finding Obi-Wan's holo-communicator and getting the message Bail Organa sent him, meaning that she now knows about Luke and part of the drama for the final episode is likely gonna be her hunting him. Why bother showing that if Reeva's just gonna die from her injuries with no one else around? The Rebels have all fled and the Empire has withdrawn, no one else is there to find that communicator, learn about Luke and potentially create final episode drama out of it other than Reeva.
Obi Wan was the Batman of Star Wars, he never broke the code, he never fell to the dark side, he never let his emotions take over his Jedi rational. They took all that and threw it away, then turns Obi to Jake Kenobi, I’m not even a fan of the Jedi, and this genuinely hurts to watch Edit: The clone wars 2008, I never watched it but I’ve heard it also harmed the character. I mean come on, Feloni’s TCW is the only media lucas’ era that shows him similarly to this show.
Did you watch the clone wars? Obi wan isnt some white bread good boi all the time. The obi wan we get here is the same guy from the movies, but hes been hiding for 10 years. Everything and everyone he cared about is gone. His whole outlook on life turned out to be wrong. He failed. How tf did yall think obi was doing before the 1st movie? Just chillin in the desert, sipping on long islands? What they did to luke was FUCKING AWFUL. I dont see how this show is doing that to obi
We also need to ask this canon-breaking thing; if Obi & Leia are now bonding so much on the show, how come Obi in TESB needs to be reminded by Yoda that they have another hope besides Luke? The bonding between obi & Leia is adorable, I'm not gonna lie. but it breaks canon nevertheless. Did Obi knock his head when he became a Force Ghost & doesn't remember Leia anymore?
I suspect on can argue that Leia was NEVER to be trained. Thus, the thought of her being a 'hope" was never ever considered until Yoda mentions it on TESB. I agree with Robot Head about the series, especially Tattoine attracting TOO MUCH attention...however, I liked the fact that Obiwan has some PTSD. I don't get why this would make him lose his powers though, as everyone would expect him to keep practicing in order to protect Luke. Good thing, they kind of fixed that on the series fast enough....
@@valenwood6299 In ANH, Obi Wan looks at Leia's hologram message and while it starts very formally it ends up very personal with "help me Obiwan Kenobi, YOU are my only hope"....Also, when asked by Luke, he never says if he knows Leia or not, he just says "we have got to help her". Last, on TESB, Vader himself says "Obiwan was WISE to HIDE her from me...." which basically means, obi wan knew she could be force sensitive, he just never thought of her as an option....
I don't have a problem with the Inquisitors introduced in Rebels, they're just Dark Side assassins, like Ventress. They're not trained to the same level as a Sith Lord or with the intent to continue the Sith tradition, so I don't think the Inquisitors take anything away from the relationship between two Sith Lords. I do dislike their appearances in the Kenobi series, the Grand Inquisitor looks especially off compared to how his species is portrayed in Revenge of the Sith.
In the Clone Wars series it is clear that Dooku is training Ventress to be his apprentice and use her to eventually help him kill Sidious. She is more than just an assassin as she is able to give both Obi Wan and Anakin almost more than they can handle at times. She was a force user before she became a Sith because of her training as a Dark Sister on Dagomir. The Emperor fears she is becoming too powerful and orders Dooku to eliminate her using the excuse that she has failed on too many missions. The fact that Dooku is unable to kill her shows she is far more than an assassin. Her arc in many ways follows Ahsoka's arc from a dark side perspective.
@@donpietruk1517 Yes, I know, that's besides my point. My point is that Clone Wars already introduced the idea that the Sith employ Dark Side users as assassins, since Sidious allowed Dooku to train her as an assassin. So if Ventress doesn't take anything away from the Rule of Two, then the Inquisitors shouldn't either.
People brush over that way too quickly when they talk about him returning, he was married for 22 yeas and decided to cheat with such a young woman. He's no different than the other Hollywood oldies, I don't get why the fandom loves him so much aside from him being good casting 20 years ago
There's a genuine potential in Obi-Wan, that's the part that hurts me the most. The bigger overarching plot isn't what bothers the shit out of me. Leia gets kidnapped, Obi-Wan has to save her, etc. We know that Obi-Wan knows who Leia is in Episode 4 when watching the message and he chooses not to tell Luke. But that "contradiction" can be easily overlooked partly because Obu-Wan and Leia don't meet aboard the Death Star before he dies, so there isn't the opportunity for recognition. Maybe he goes by another alias when rescuing Leia or just goes by "Ben" with no last name, and only afterwards does she get told his whole story and realises how important he was to her and her brother. So then she names her son after him. Much as I hate the sequels, it would at least have been an ATTEMPT at continuity between the three trilogies. But Disney sucks at this SO BAD, they can't bother to pay attention to these things at all. And Obi-Wan dueling Vader before Epidode 4? Fuck you, that invalidates everything about their confrontation aboard the Death Star. There is NOTHING in that conversation that allows room for a duel. "When I left you, I was but a learner. Now I am the master." THEY HAVEN'T MET SINCE MUSTAFAR. FUCK ALL OF THIS GARBAGE.
Hit the nail on the head bröther. They said fuck continuity and by saying that they ruined all suspension of disbelief and engagement from people who actually value good story telling. I don’t care what direction they went as long as it makes fucking sense with the rest of Star Wars and follows a logical training consistency. Disney said fuck that, we are just going to write glorified fan fiction
Most of what you said was right but how exactly does “when I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master” imply that the last time they had fought was 20 years ago? Vader was only talking about when he left Obi-wan and joined the dark side, not how their last duel was 20 years ago on Mustafar a day or so after Anakin had already tuned
@@disser0145 But the reason she asks is due to his relationship to Bail. She says "You served with my father during the clone wars now he begs you in his struggle against the Empire. I regret I am not able to be here in person to deliver my father's message to you in person". That doesn't sound like someone who went on a massive, life saving journey talking to her said savior. It sounds like someone who only knows of the person through heresay from their father.
It's easy. These people just argue that she only knows him as Ben, while in ANH she asks for Obi Wan. She doesn't know they are the same. Apparently it's more believable that her father knew two seperate Kenobi's during the clone wars, served with both and they both happened to be Jedi. Maybe Kenobi is like like having the last name Smith in the Star Wars universe. Most people would argue that any reasonably intelligent person would figure out this connection and realize they are the same person. Or would assume that child Leia after getting home from her abduction would ask her father about this man he sent to rescue her and she formed a bond with. But these people don't. They also don't question how come Luke turns up at Leia's cell and tells her he is there to resuce her, has her R2 unit and is there with Ben Kenobi and she doesn't question how that could be, given the fact that she sent her droid to enlist the help of Obi Wan Kenobi. I guess the droid just ran into Ben Kenobi in his search and brought him because on top of all, both these Kenobi happen to live on Tatooine.

Makes me finally want to read the novel and experience the greatness of the old EU content, which disney clearly cannot contend with even in high budget shows
Start with the Thrawn Trilogy. It's the peak of Star Wars EU novels. If you like video games and can tolerate dated gameplay, try out Knights of the Old Republic.
I have to say it: you’re right. Before this video I was “okey, I can’t say anything now because there are three episodes still” but after this video I realised a lot of things, little things that I didn’t pay attention to. I tried, that’s all I can say. I tried to watch this show even that I knew that was going to be bad. It really hurts to see how Disney is ruining characters that I used to love. Love your channel! (I’m from Argentina!)
About the bits of filler, though, I really think that the show could be great if they kept with that. Show Obi-Wan-he is what we all came here for! What this show probably needed to be was quiet, character-focused, and dialogue-driven. It needed to showcase the EXISTING LORE and Ewan McGregor’s fantastic acting skills, really diving in to his life and mental turmoil as he lived, alone, on Tatooine-something more like the Kenobi novel. But, sadly, all Disney wants is action and their own dumb storylines, and they will twist and bend everything around their fantasies. Very sad for Ewan; he deserved so much better.
Why they had to introduce the Inquisitors so early was pointless - you could cut them out of Tatooine altogether. Leia kidnapped, Bail calls Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan leaves, and the Inquisitors hunt him on the new planet. Most of the first episode is focused on Obi-Wan, then focus on introducing the Inquisitors in episode 2. Alas, that would push Reeva to later in the game, and we can not have that can we?
No no no you dont understand this whole topic, it's about a fallen FEMALE DIVERSE AFRICAN AMERICAN Jedi that is on the hunt for this old white male. Noone wants to see any old, white and male character because Star Wars is now diverse unlike the OT, it obviously wasnt....
Imagine if they went to that planet to hunt the pretend Jedi, not knowing he was a fake, and stumbled across the fact Obi-Wan was there too rather than it be an utterly insane plan of Reva's. Just 1 of countless changes that could have made the show good. Imagine a scene where we see their excitement at hunting someone as legendary as Obi-Wan, only for it to turn to dread as they realize how outclassed they are. Like the reverse of a group of Jedi stumbling across a lone Darth Vader. Such an opportunity! Such a rusk. That would have been a great way to introduce the tension between Reva and the other Inquisistors as well as her secret obsession.
It's too bad that the Thrawn trilogy was never adapted to film. Yes I know it's not canon, but Timothy Zahn's books were actually faithful to the established lore unlike the Disney sequels. Thrawn is the cool, calculating, sigma male villain that live action Star Wars is sorely lacking. At least we got him in Rebels; he was honestly the best aspect about the show.
Well it's Disney Star Wars we're talking about so maybe it's for the better? Also wasn't he mentioned in the season 2 of the Mandalorian? You still might get what you want but you will be dissapointed since it's Disney Star Wars we're talking about...
Sorry, but I always found those books ridiculously overhyped. And Thrawn (along with the likes of his goofy Force Kryptonite Lizards) bored me frankly. 🤷♂️ I'd rather have fresh ideas anyway.
@@minicle426 well, I think Thrawn could have been creatively adapted into the sequel trilogy. Not word for word, but the basic character and the basic concepts. Sort of pragmatic adaptation, that cuts out the more out there stuff, and leaves the core elements
As someone who has dabbled in acting (amateur) quite a bit, a general rule I’ve had by some quite notable drama teachers is: a person who yells and screams is a person who has no power and is boring to watch.
This is a common sentiment shared around by reddit “actors” that tends to be generally untrue. There’s nothing wrong with yelling or screaming in acting, nor is the blame attributable to the actor, as it’s the director’s job to lead.
@@TylerTheLoser_ Firstly, I clarified my acting experience is amateur (short film and local theatre). Secondly, I did not blame the actor. But the general consensus is that yelling and screaming constantly shows a character who lacks power, and when used continually it is a boring choice for an actor. There are much better choices than continual yelling and screaming. I haven’t seen the script and I don’t know what direction was given, so I can’t say where the blame lays. But I can say it’s a boring choice and does not show a character with menace or control.
@@callumwells That’s literally the point tho. We’re down multiple times the lack of control the Inquisitors, more specifically Reva has. She’s been getting pushed around by the others for half the show.
I just want to point out that it bugs me that on this Hot AF desert planet with two suns, people are wearing 5 layers of leather jackets and trench coats wearing wool hats...These extra's must be dying of heat exhaustion daily....
What is this hardon Disney has for turning legendary heroes into frightened old men? Because that went so well with TLJ... Do they think they need to return to step 1 of the heroes journey each time?
Earlier on in the show: Obi talks to Owen about how he needs to train Luke. Owen says no and Obi is upset. Later on in the show: Jedi comes up to Obi Wan: I need your help! Obi: No, I don't do that anymore.
I really dislike how Lightsabres look in every Disney Star Wars product, as they look identical to the toys that you can buy in the stores. They don't seem to do any of the post production that the original films did, they just take the toys and add a slight glow effect to the toy and then take a three day weekend off!
Well of course, unlike 1-6 where the saber props were made for combat, the Disney sabers are made to glow so "ooh, look at the sabers reflecting on their faces, much wow much practical'.
I can understand the criticism of the inquisitors existence, or the inclusion of other sith, but having more sith is probably a change for what we’re use to. It’s why I like the old republic lore, because the sith empire are certainly a very interesting group to learn about. I personally was never a big fan of the rule of 2, sure it’s a cool concept, but incredibly limited.
I agree, and additionally, it's only logical. The Empire hunted Jedi, but many Jedi had escaped. Not only that, the galaxy is far and wide, and sometimes an army isn't going to be enough to enforce order. Plus Palpatine was sadistic. So it's only natural that in turn of all this, the Empire would use the Jedi to destroy the Jedi, with Palpatine absorbing the irony of it.
Not every adversary has to have a lightsaber. They would have more impact if left for the big fights between Jedi and sith instead of cutting farmers hands off.
@@bensmith9984 sure, but in the context of canon, inquisitors should not have been on tatooine to begin with. Maybe some imperial patrol from time to time, but Tatooine offers little to nothing for the empire.
I honestly don't mind the Inquisitors. As long as we consider the Clone Wars a good addition to the canon Lore (which in my opinion it very much is), then Inquisitors aren't a really new concept. Sith Assassins were common. Ventress and Savage being the ones we see in the series. And yes, they were students of Tyranus and Maul, but the concept of "Sith Assassin" was very much canon and especially Doku tried to keep his charade up, that Ventress was only an Assassin and that he didn't officially take her as a student. We know this through several interactions between Doku and Sidious, where he makes sure Tyranus is not trying anything funny and that Ventress is a Sith Assassin and nothing more. So long story short. Inquisitors are not really something that interferes with canon material. If anything it's a rather useful and logical thing to do. Why only use Stormtroopers that only miss to search for Jedi, when you can take the ones willing to switch sides, not teach them anything so they stay weak enough for you to deal with, while still being more of a threat to other force users. If anything this even builds up on the original movies! The whole idea of the prequels was to show that the Jedi were not all that good. And that most of them were hyppocrits for avoiding the truth of the Sith out of fear. Inquisitors show just how many Jedi were ready to switch sides and carried the dark side within them.
I agree, Inquisitors have been in legends before Filoni brought them to rebels too and Ventress was a George Lucas Creation, idk if Savage was. In Star Wars Lore there were Inquisitors ever since 4980 BBY. They were created in 1987 I'm the Star Wars Sourcebook. Back then they were actual Sith but now after the rule of two, within the Skywalker saga the Inquisitors are just former Jedis dark side force users with red sabers. They are the Sith's (Palps, and Vader) Inquisitors, not "Sith" Inquisitors.
Inquisitors are dark Jedi; force-users who use the Dark-side but don't follow any Sith Code. It makes sense that Palpatine would want force-users to do his bidding, but are weak enough so they wouldn't overthrow him. I just hate how ugly the Rebels Inquisitors look in live-action, they don't even sound like their animated counterparts.
I think the concept of the inquisitors is pretty cool, but the execution in later seasons of rebels and especially obi wan is just ridiculously bad. The grand inqusitor from season 1 of rebels, and especially the second sister in the game fallen order was an amazing antagonist. She personifies what the inquisitors should be. Fallen, broken jedi with a hunger for power and the appreciation of darth vader and the imperator. Also i always imagined them as a small special force that is not widely known. And just because they are less competent and scary than darth vader, doesnt mean they have to be complete IDIOTS like they are in obi wan. its so much wasted potential...
Agreed. Second Sister really is a great villain. Heck, while the story of Fallen Order isn't any compelling or award winning, at least it is coherent and doesn't have any plot holes, unlike Kenobi. They also introduced characters that you can like, and they are new characters! A gaming company wrote a better story than a multimillion dollar company.
@@SoraRaida very true! Cal kestis is one of the most likeable characters of modern star wars. And i hope they will create a more interesting story for the second game. But in terms of characters fallen order really nailed it! Actually all of the antagonists in fallen order are great. The ninth sister really shows in her fight how broken the inquisitors are under the surface, and taron malicos has a great jurney to the dark completely unrelated to the empire.
I was just talking to a friend about your Reva issue! That is probably one of the problems I have with the character. She looks nothing like the other Inquisitors, and that is a bad thing.
One of the biggest problems all these Star Wars shows have is that they continue to make stories within the confines of a few decades and they keep introducing new concepts and characters that are never seen or spoken of again. In the original film you never got the impression that Obi Wan was just fighting off rouge Jedi and planet hopping when Luke was 10-years old or that he once helped rescue his sister. The absolute worst part about all of these shows and projects is that everything is based on and tied back to the OT, which shows just how reliant and dependent the entire franchise is to ideas, concepts and characters created over 40 years ago. Pathetic.
As RLM said, "Star Wars is creatively bankrupt". As much as I didn't want to admit they were right, as a kid that grew up with the prequels and clone wars, they were spot on. The time constraints prevent any real storytelling from taking place, as the meat of the story ended with Ep 6.
While I mostly agree with you, I don't think it's an issue with this show. People love Obi Wan and IMO there's nothing bad in having a show about him. Between Episodes 3 and 4 seems like the only possible time period considering Ewan McGregor's age. The show's main problems so far are a mediocre plot and underwhelming characterization of the man himself, Obi Wan.
@@SgtZaqq -- I understand the timeline but that's my problem with everything happening. Consider the boardroom scene in Star Wars when one of the generals refers to the Force as an "ancient religion." Really? Is that the same ancient religion where users of the Force were employed by the Empire as they were chasing down and killing Jedi? My problem is that because the entire franchise is based on a select few years shows like Obi Wan are trying too hard to bring more story to a timeline that doesn't feel at all connected to the 40+ year old movies that precede it. Hell, even Obi Wan says he hasn't been referred to "Obi Wan" since before Luke was born. This show goes against all of that by showing a very agile and capable Obi Wan who's been going on adventures, rescuing his sister from being kidnapped and fighting rouge Jedi just a decade prior. There's also very little tension from any of these scenes. While we normally don't worry about the hero of a show or movie there's even fewer stakes for both Obi Wan and Leia or even Vader for that matter because we already know they live on in some capacity in already completed films. The only thing left in this show that's interesting is seeing how all the Inquisitors will die as they clearly can't go on living since they didn't exist in any other movie in the timeline.
You actually do get that in the ANH, leia is surprised once luke mentions ben kenobi sent her once he saves her. Meaning they had to have some preexisting relationship. So it works. But she only knew him as ben, until reva calls him obiwan TO LEIA, so now she knows ben is obiwan which fucking obliterated that canon. She couldve thot ben and general obiwan kenobi are different people
Your point on the Inquisitors is actually really interesting. How do the Jedi become legend when everyone knows their killers? While I get the selfish Sith Lord desire of exploiting lower dark side users as minions, we NEED a really good explanation of why they somehow disappear from the galaxy’s collective memory. I don’t think you can pull that off. :/
That's just it, the OT never gave any indication that no-one remembered the Jedi. That shit was introduced in Disney stuff. So this is yet another problem that they brought on themselves. I mean, not knowing about the Force is one thing, most people in the galaxy didn't believe in that to begin with. But erasing the Jedi completely? They were literally blamed for causing the Clone War!
The inquisitors are a dumb concept that never should have seen the day of light. With their massive military and Darth Vader at the helm, the Empire never would have needed to rely on fodder Dark Side apprentices to find and kill the very few remaining Jedi. That said, ever since Disney took over, we've had more and more Jedi that survived order 66. It's almost as if order 66 isn't that big of a deal anymore.
@@corruptangel6793 Fantastic point! It also strikes me as interesting since all TCW era dark side users being pawns of Dooku actually makes sense since, in the midst of a galaxy-wide war, these sorts of events happening only a handful of times within an entire galaxy could get missed once enough people were killed, making witnesses scanty. Meaning, if Filoni treated said Inquisitors the same way, as these shadow assassins that nobody saw or heard of, this could work. HOWEVER, making them so blatant as in Kenobi and in parts of Rebels...yuck.
@@ovidiudiumea4012 I think this is a great point. Survivors of Order 66 only detract from the exceptional planning of Sideous and the effectiveness of the clones. We can work with a handful, especially younger Jedi slipping away only to be nabbed due to their own naivety such as with Cal in Fallen Order. Then said Inquisitors could work as Vader's shadow force to track the remaining Jedi and for him to finish them off. However, then it is all down to execution which if it's done poorly...well, it blows and makes no sense. XD
@@ovidiudiumea4012 When you think about it the only jedi who could've survived where those not in the Temple and not on active duty. But seriously any jedi surviving completely undermines the OT. How exactly Luke is the last hope with the likes of Ahsoka, Ezra and Cal running around and there being a freaking lists of Force-sensitive children? Or did by "another" Yoda meant "another hundred"?
Also to add about Bail Organa. Not only is he the ruler of the powerful Core World of Alderaan, but he is also an Imperial Senator who could petition the Empire to help get Leia back since what Reva did was completely unsanctioned by Vader or the Emperor. Which means she could become a fugitive from the Empire and could be imprisoned at best, killed on sight or brought in for a long and drawn-out death at worst.
You do realize the stuff filoni was in charge of...lucas was also involved in.... And that filoni was effectively dubbed the spiritual successor to lucas' vision by lucas himself. He took him under his wing and mentored him and proposed his vision for star wars
I thought Filoni knew what he was doing. But he’s been working on these shows and still they have been going down in quality since Boba. Really not looking forward to the Ahsoka one
@@hammerbeamWhich shows are you talking about? The only show since boba is obi wan and he is not involved at all in any of the credits. And all upcoming shows he's not involved in except Ahsoka. Boba he only wrote and directed one episode and was not involved in writing on the rest the series...that was John Favreau. I would argue the episodes he writes and directs are some of the best ones put on screen (in boba and mandolorian) If anything Ahsoka will be the first real chance at a full scope live action Filoni vision
Under the current creative forces of their respective franchises, Star Wars hates Jedi, Star Trek hates the Federation, and Doctor Who hates Timelords. Makes you wonder why any of these people want to work on shows that they despise.
4:25 The difference is they are not siths. Inquisitors and other dark power force users existed way before Disney bought up SW or Filoni bastardized the Clone Wars. Thing is Palpatine never really kept himself to the rule of two. In canon, he still had his master during the Phantom Menace, while he already trained Maul. It's kinda an external information, but i think Lucas already thought it up, just never showed it in the movies. So as far as i know, this isn't a problem from the canon's perspective. In EU, Luke's wife, Mara Jade was an imperial inquisitor before she turned back to the light side. The Inquisition itself consisted several force sensitive humans, trained by Palpatine or other strong inquisitors to act as his secret police and jedi hunters. The difference was, that Palpatine was careful about teaching them anything more than the basics, since he didn't wanted any inside opposition. This meant, that even there were several of these strong, but untrained dark force users, only Palpatine and Vader had actual Sith knowledge. That's why most of their character dynamics were wrapped around the fact, that Vader always tried to find methods to kill Palpatine and become the master, even training his own group of secret dark force users to match the ones loyal to the Emperor. This whole stuff is just a huge takeover by Disney. The Inquisition was meant to be a diverse (by this i mean not the same cut-out bad guy in black armor) group of human (since the Empire was racist back then) force users, consisting jedi-hunter duelists, diplomats, non-combat detectives, etc. Filoni made them edgelord Power Rangers with fidget spinner lightsabers and this is where we are now.
I had to laugh outloud when you mentioned they dont know how to use their arms. My thoughts exactly when watching the episode. Spoilers: does not get better in the following episodes.
He is responsible for so many terrible, lore-breaking things that only by comparison to the rest of disney Star Wars his contributions may come up as half-decent. Let's see: - Resurrecting Darth Maul (why, just why? Also how?) - Introducing characters like Ventress that make no sense (rule of two) - Turning Force from a mysterious mystic power into basically space magic, capable of weird things, like resurrection or voodoo (the whole nightsisters concept) - Creating Jedi characters actively operating during rebellion (Kanan, Ezra) - Creating Inquisitors - concept that makes even less sense than Ventress (Vader was supposed to be the Sith hunting down any remnants + the rule of two + order 66) - Making Inquisitors fly with their lightsabers Also in general the Star Wars cartoons are by definition cartoony. They are made to fit the "monster of the week" (or "problem of the week") formula and they are all prequels to the movies. Which means nothing significant can happen in them, all encounters have to be more or less unresolved, the heroes (and main villains) have to always escape, but never accomplish anything major. This all happens in a cartoony, exaggerated way that would be unrealistic in a live action scenario. ... Which wouldn't be that terrible if they were not part of the cannon. But if those cartoons are canonically what actually happened, then anything can happen in this world. And Obi-Wan is the best example of Filloni's cartoon influence. The screenwriting in this series is completely in line with what you get in Clone Wars or Rebels. This is the live action Rebels. Leia's wood chase, Obi Wan being rescued from first encounter with Vader, whole Inquisitors base mission - this stuff could easily happen in one of Filloni's cartoons.
I've only found your channel a few days ago but I'm really enjoying all your videos about shitting on the sequels. Enjoy them more than the movies themselves. Keep it going mate, you're really entertaining
Remember when Luke got all weird about endangering the mission because he was in the same solar system as Vader and he could sense he was there? But Reeva walks past Kenobi's fish stall and nothing?
To be fair, non-Sith Dark Siders had been a thing for a long time before the Disney canon. In the EU, it had been established that the Empire had an Inquistion made up of Dark Jedi operatives who acted as special agents, a cadre of Emperor's Hands who acted as assassins and an occult order of Dark Sıde Prophets ınvolved with some Dark Sıde research. All of them received hıghly specialızed traınıng to guarantee they won't be much of a threat to Sıth proper, but the Empıre and the Sıth had theır cadre of non-Sıth Force-sensıtıve agents back then.
Yup. “Sith” and “Dark Side” aren’t anymore synonymous than “Jedi” and “Light Side”. The two are specific organizations and belief systems. The Force existed long before them and will long after them. Many orders have existed that don’t belong to either group but still align with one aspect of the Force. It’s just that the Jedi and Sith are the most powerful orders. The Inquisitors are just lackeys to the Sith. They have just enough knowledge to be useful attack dogs, but they’re deliberately kept ignorant so they can be easily disposed of when they outlive their usefulness.
2:58. I always thought "force shifting" was a cool ability. I played some old star wars games that made them run with the force too. It would be cool to see it in combat, after all, aren't they suppose to be super human?
The power was Force Speed, which basically pushed the body to its natural limits for a time. You actually DO see it used throughout the prequels, it's why the Jedi and their counterparts are able to do all the crazy stuff they do. The thing is they aren't using it to its maximum extent usually, because Force Speed doesn't cause you to use any less energy - basically, you're just as exhausted at the end as you would be doing all that stuff without it. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan used Force Speed to such a high degree there because it was pretty clear the alternative was unavoidable death. If you use it in, say, a battle, you risk not defeating all your opponents in time and winding up a sitting, exhausted duck when your body's limitations are finally reached.
I know it is mentioned in older books a lot and shown a bit in the animated shows but not too heavily. However it probably looks terrible in live action so that is probably one of the main reasons it isn't used too much. I do wish it was used more in the animated shows tho
Thank you, I've been looking all over for ONE SINGLE review that understands what star wars was. Every other review just smiles and hopes to be invited to some special event one day. Even guys in their 50s can not give a fair review. You sir, are a legend for this. Thank you!
It really was mind-numbing and frustrating that audiences are supposed to swallow the "fact" that Obi-wan somehow forgot how to use the force or a lightsaber in the space of 10 years. And the idiocy of trying to teach Luke the force when he himself seems to have forgotten or blanked out due to PSD(?). It's not just that they aren't paying attention to prior film continuity. There's a serious lack of continuity within the series. Having Obi-wan walked around like a lost dog by the 5-year old...er...10-year old girl was just the cherry on the top. 🤨
He never forgot how to use a lightsaber, he chose not to use it to avoid suspicion. He used it like a pro in the newest episode and didn’t mess up once killing the stormtroopers or deflecting the blaster bolts

Clearly the writers haven't seen the either trilogy or they really like what Rian Johnson did with Luke in the non-trilogy.
I was about to type how Vader is the only character who wasn't be fucked up by Disney, until I remembered the scene where he chokes Reva. DARTH VADER IS RUTHLESS AND DOES NOT GIVE SECOND CHANCES!!! WTF!?!? Reva should have died. I'm watching interviews with Ewan and Hayden, but Reva was the MC all along!?
Right?! Admiral Ozzel, exits hyperspace too close to Hoth, allowing the Alliance to raise their shield and put up a defense to get some portion of their personnel and leadership away from the Empire, and Vader kills him. Captain Needa, through absolutely no fault of his own, loses the _Millennium Falcon_ when Han pulls a completely ridiculous stunt, and Vader kills him. Reva, fails to capture Obi-Wan, allows a highly secure Imperial facility to be infiltrated and shot to hell by Rebels, then claims she did it so she could track Obi-Wan's ship (note how Disney is blatantly using this scene to give Vader the idea to track the _Millennium Falcon_ after allowing it to escape the Death Star...because ain't no man having good ideas without a wahmyn showing him how, first), and Vader _F*CKING CONGRATULATES HER._ Disney Star Wars is trash.
Leia is supposed to be 10. She sounds, looks and importantly runs like a 4 year old. She was an awful choice. Nothing against the actress. Everything against those who put her in the situation
Its was actaully stated by Force Ghost Qui Gon to Obi Wan in the novels that Darth Vader would never set foot on Tatooine again because his life as a Jedi and what came before it was gone. So it wouldn't make sense for the Empire Storm Troopers (yet alone Inquisitors) to be on Tatooine or have much influance on that planet until New Hope which was only because R2D2. and C3PO were on that planet.

Exactly. People are bitching and whining about this show too hard for little reason. Yeah, there are a couple dumb things worth complaining about, a prime example being the chase between Leia and her kidnappers, but for the most part the criticism is just nitpicking from star wars purists with nothing better to do.
I agree, I think it would be silly if Obi-Wan was all happy and cheerful. Like all his friends are dead, the government he defended turn into a Space Empire ruled by Sith, all of his tools & resources gone.
@@Сайтамен Exactly; Yoda specifically told him he had training for him, and he was clearly meant to spend much of his time with Qui-Gon's ghost. This was set up by Episode III and expanded upon during The Clone Wars, and even Rebels.

Also side note I love how sometimes it seems like less of the characters speaking and more of the message disney is trying to push on the nose. The "She's just as important as he is" is so silly, even if the scene were to make sense a distraught set of parents would do more than leverage someones love for another child while pleading to save theirs.
Imo Qui-Gon is the quintessential Jedi.
it's painfully obvious the political pandering
@@KeldorDAntrell What the fuck did I just read?
The idea that there is a spiritual antidote to evil in the world is a scary thing to corporate soulless Disney.
What you just said is deeply profound my friend.
Star Wars lore already shat itself with the whole balance thing - implying no matter how great the hero's victory the dark side will balance it out somehow.
@@30noir OG Balance: Evil is destroyed and good prevails.

But that would have Rectonned and Contradict Star Wars Rebels since Maul does not know obi wan had survived.
This was my biggest indication that they didn't care about the story. Not knowing every teensy bit of lore in a 45 year franchise? For sure.

I’m sorry to break it to you but Jon and Dave believe the sequel trilogy is canon I’m sorry but it’s true they’re not gonna rescue this franchise
Given that Universal had faithfully adapted the _Harry Potter_ books, it is surprising he didn't take it to them.
He sold so he could spend more time with his family. He made that very clear.

It's actually not a bad idea. But evidently executing it requires too much brain power on the part of the writers.

In the last episode she put a tracker in Leia’s droid. Which begs the question, why not just put a tracker on Bail’s ship in the first place? He would have led her directly to Obi-Wan.

Exactly - Where is the Obi-wan who jumps in solo against Grievous and his elite guard with a smile on his face?
Lucasfilm has a tendency to un-develop characters so they can re-develop them in a terrible way, since Obi-Wan already has 2 complete character arcs that segment his life story into 2 parts with very little to be left up to interpretation, they feel the need to overwrite his prequel character arc in order to make him "grow" as a character, instead of taking a developed character and having them retain their development and maybe have them learn a few new things or settle old plot holes.
@@octodaddy877 but that's bullshit, Obiwan is someone who is always courageous, having him be a pussy for 10 years straight without touching his lightsaber is nothing but stupid

I last left left you *I was a learner* there is an opening there though.
Anyone else think it’s dumb that Leia and “Ben” have this experience together and then she doesn’t realize a few years later that it’s obi-wan?
Did you forget that Leia explicitly asked for Obi-Wan to help save her from the death star in A New Hope?
@@disser0145 that what i was a bout to say😂

But Reva is our real main character so she needs to be in the first 2 scenes.
But then her motivations might make sense.
Thanks!

@@minicle426 well, I think Thrawn could have been creatively adapted into the sequel trilogy. Not word for word, but the basic character and the basic concepts. Sort of pragmatic adaptation, that cuts out the more out there stuff, and leaves the core elements
Correction, Thrawn is canon.

That's old Republic, not Empire.
@@Сайтамен the sith empire are from the old republic.
Based
I agree, Inquisitors have been in legends before Filoni brought them to rebels too and Ventress was a George Lucas Creation, idk if Savage was.
@@phinyo2066 Exactly since being a sith isn't just using the dark side it's like a goddamn religion
Inquisitors are fine. They aren't written well and that's the problem.

The ninth sister really shows in her fight how broken the inquisitors are under the surface, and taron malicos has a great jurney to the dark completely unrelated to the empire.
I hate the inquisitors, myself. It makes no sense that the Emperor would be aware of several force users and keep them alive.
The show is not even really about obi wan.
Not the OT but Filoni Wars, every damn show has crap from Clone Wars and Rebels.
@@corruptangel6793
Fantastic point!
@@ovidiudiumea4012
I think this is a great point.

I think Dave filoni has contributed a lot of great ideas which should be explored in live action as well
I agree. I personally think that Dave Filoni is the best person working on star wars right now.
And the fact he wasn’t involved in the show really showed
No. No he's not.
@@Jurgir09 why not. His done way more good then bad. He had nothing to do with this show or boba fett.
He is responsible for so many terrible, lore-breaking things that only by comparison to the rest of disney Star Wars his contributions may come up as half-decent.
Let's see:
- Resurrecting Darth Maul (why, just why? Also how?)
- Introducing characters like Ventress that make no sense (rule of two)
- Turning Force from a mysterious mystic power into basically space magic, capable of weird things, like resurrection or voodoo (the whole nightsisters concept)
- Creating Jedi characters actively operating during rebellion (Kanan, Ezra)
- Creating Inquisitors - concept that makes even less sense than Ventress (Vader was supposed to be the Sith hunting down any remnants + the rule of two + order 66)
- Making Inquisitors fly with their lightsabers
Also in general the Star Wars cartoons are by definition cartoony.

Reva, fails to capture Obi-Wan, allows a highly secure Imperial facility to be infiltrated and shot to hell by Rebels, then claims she did it so she could track Obi-Wan's ship (note how Disney is blatantly using this scene to give Vader the idea to track the _Millennium Falcon_ after allowing it to escape the Death Star...because ain't no man having good ideas without a wahmyn showing him how, first), and Vader _F*CKING CONGRATULATES HER._
