Brenda this has been the MOST VALUABLE video for ME! When I noticed you were using a higher pressure and lower blade depth than my Cameo 4 has, I decide to adjust those and came out with the most incredible cuts!!! Thank you so much, you have blessed me and my machine!😊
This video was helpful. Would it be able to etch very thin aluminum? The Curio would be perfect for make a stencil cut, but I would only need to scrape the top to make a simple design.
@@silhouettesuccess good to know. I’ve seen etching videos on machines as far back as the Cameo 2 and Cameo 3. And they say that the Cameo 5 is 20% more powerful (or something like that). So it should be doable. I was concerned about voiding the warranty if it’s not allowed, but it should be fine. Thanks for the videos.
@ForOrchestra oh, so I'm still half asleep, apparently. The Cameo is not meant to engrave. The Curio is. I didn't look to see which video you were referencing. So sorry. The new engraving tool is only for use with the curio. The cameo can use the embossing tool, but I haven't ordered that one yet.
It showed auto blade detected for that chip board.. is that the blade that comes with it? To be clear, what blade would i need for the chip board and what is the thickest material the cameo can cut and what blade needed for that? Thanks in advance
If you are cutting thin chipboard, the autoblade can handle it. If it is thick chipboard, then you'll need to move to the Kraft blade. There is a 2mm and a 3mm size for the Kraft blade, and you'll need to know the thickness of your material to decide which one you need. The 3 mm can cut thinner material up to 3mm. The 2 mm can cut up to 2 mm. I feel like I'm rambling... sorry. More coffee is needed. LOL The Silhouette machines can cut up to 3mm. That is the absolute thickest it will cut. The autoblade goes up to 1 mm, you can get a manual blade that cuts up to 2mm, the Kraft blade is the only one that will cut 3mm.
Original Cameo user here (And had the original before the first Cameo lol). Finally upgraded for Christmas. Still waiting on it to arrive. I'm curious what the story is behind the loops when using the craft blade?
The kraft blade and the rotary blade do not turn in the housing like the autoblade does, so it has to go outside of the design and make its turn, then come back to move on to the next cut. It looks like a mess on the send screen, but I've never had it interfere with the actual design elements.
Hi, do you know when the cameo 5 will be an available option on the silhouette go app. I just switched from cricut to silhouette and was disappointed that the new machines do not work with the silhouette app yet.
I don't have dates, unfortunately. I've heard rumors that they are currently working on it, but it's strange because that's one of the things that they talked about at the conference. I thought it was ready to go when they released the machines.

@@silhouettesuccess thanks for getting back to me! Hopefully there will be an update soon. I'll keep my eyes peeled! For now I will keep practicing with studio. Thanks again for your help!
This comment and reply was 9 months ago.. I am looking to get the cameo 5 (decided on this over the cricut 3) so anything change with the app? I have a phone, and iPad pro.. Could i use the app with either of these and does the app work with the cameo 5 now?
What happens when you put 100 force? lets say for chipboard or acetate? Also, where do we find information about which blade to use for which tool and which pass to use and what blade depth? I believe cricut tells you before cutting.
The kraft blade is recommended for chipboard, but depending on the thickness and density, you might be able to use the deep cut. If it's under 1mm, I'd try the autoblade first.
I typically use Recollections from Michaels. Over cut is a feature in the Send Panel. It tells the machine to cut just past the corners and it helps to get cleaner cuts.
Hi, I saw that the heavy cardstock setting was 80lbs. Have you tried cutting 110lb cardstock? Do you know if it would cut 110lb heavy cardstock? Thank you
It should cut just fine, depending on how fibrous the cardstock is. I would actually start with the heavy cardstock setting and bump the blade up only if necessary.
Thanks for that. Rather disappointing I was expecting better results. Still noisy but not screeching. I have owned 2 Cameos and they have both been really temperamental - looks like this one is too.
Thank you so much. I'm looking to buy Silhouette Cameo 5. I want to cut 1mm self-adhesive magnetic sheet. I want to place a 180gsm photo paper with matte lamination on the magnetic sheet. Can the silhouette 5 to such depth?
Possibly, but you would definitely need the rotary blade and a strong grip mat. Keep in mind that you will get hooks and loops with the rotary blade. They look like a mess on the send screen, but they don't interfere with the cut elements. I have successfully cut felt, so the thickness should not be an issue. The only concern is that the cuddle fabric is not as stiff and may move around a bit.
I’ve had one on preorder since the week it came out(Australia). I’m now a bit disappointed. The noise itself seems identical as well. I thought it was quieter?
Qu- I tried to cut Glittered craft foam using the Kraft Blade 3, but it’s not cutting nowhere near through the material, could you give me some advice as to what settings I should try, and do you think that possibly, any other blades might work? If so what would you suggest.. Thank you!!
With the Kraft blades, you have to adjust them manually. Tighten the cap and check the depth against the side of the material. Once it looks deep enough, give it a try. Check the cut before you unload the mat. If it did not cut through, increase the force and try another pass.
@@silhouettesuccess thank you so much!! I guess I thought the Kraft blade 3 was auto adjusted! It does give the settings on the screen, but I will check this!! It almost had cut thru but never went all the way through the foam.. Thanks again!!
I didn't notice any, but I wasn't specifically looking for them. If you use craft foam and this is an issue, slide the rollers to the right, off of the foam. Most craft foam is letter size or smaller.
They said it was quieter than the other models..It doesn’t sound like it is to me..Not sure if it’s worth upgrading yet..I’ve considered the solo, but hear nightmares with the software..and not sure about the Juliet or Romeo..Time will tell if I stay with Sil or not..I let Cricut’s go,well, mine are paper weights now..and cameo is causing me issues now on my 4..Not sure what the issue is but it won’t load media, won’t connect etc..
I came over from cricut because of their software. The cameo 5 is quite a bit quieter than the 4. Demonstrating that on film isn't easy - mostly because I know more about silhouette than I know about producing videos. Lol. Are the problems with your 4 consistent, or just every now and then?
It can, but it does not do a great job at it. You would use the kraft blade, and I think there are settings for it in the software. I'll definitely put it on the list for future videos. It might be a while, though. Minor family crisis hit right in between the holidays, so everything has been thrown off schedule. 🙃
Are you using a Mac or a PC? I updated my Mac desktop and laptop Monterey 14.1. Now it does not support the latest version of the Silhouette Studio design program. As a result I cannot use my Cameo 5.
I think that version 14.1 is Sonoma, their latest OS. You would have to check with Silhouette whether Studio can run on Sonoma. I'm still on Monterey 12.7.
I'm using a PC. I have been told that you can download version 4.4.554 and that will fix the issue, but you need 4.5.700 to run the new machines. It is a mess, and they are working on it, but unfortunately, at this point, that's all I know. Can you revert to the old software for the Mac?
I have a quick question... My Portrait 3 reads the square registration mark when place on the left or right of the paper. Does cameo 5 only reads it if it's on the left? Do you know? Thank you so much! @@silhouettesuccess
@@silhouettesuccess I cut all my stickers with the mark on the other side 🫢 and the cameo 5 would not read.. so I changed and it worked.. If you turn the page to be landscape the square goes to the other side.
Is that just a thing with the Portrait? I'm so confused. Lol!! I print and cut landscape all the time and I've never seen the square on the other side. 🤷♀️
I haven't tried veneer, but I think Silhouette sells some in their specialty materials, so it should work. The hooks and loops are a pain, and I honestly try to avoid them. As long as you check the send page carefully, it usually works out ok, without the extra cuts interfering with the actual design.
I think the issue was more in the consistency of the leather. Some areas seemed much denser than others. I think it would have eventually cut through, but I personally was out of patience. Anyway, it almost seemed like a force issue. And if that's the case, then it's going to take a commercial machine. That was my first time cutting genuine leather, so I'm definitely not an expert in that area.

Hello! I have a question .... Do you know if the different blades of the cameo 4 are compatible with the cameo 5?
They are! I've used the auto blade, the kraft blade, and rotary blade. They all worked perfectly.

The kraft blade is recommended for chipboard, but depending on the thickness and density, you might be able to use the deep cut. If it's under 1mm, I'd try the autoblade first.
can it handle doing the cuts of fabric with embroidery on it?
I haven't tried it, but it should be able to. Might need to increase the blade depth and passes, though.
do any of the Silhouette machines allow for cutting of edible paper. Like for decorations for cakes and or cupcakes?
What card stoick did you use? In my experience, there is a big difference. Also, what is "over cut"?

@@silhouettesuccess Thank you for your time! Your videos have been very informative.
Would the silhouette 5 be able to cut velboa/cuddle fabric? I’m awful with scissors, so having my cameo do instead it would be a real blessing.
