I had to comment on your archetypical ESTP 'narrative'. My own upbringing is exactly as you described; young male, father died at 15, anger management/delinquency, low income background, dangerous inner-city environment. 8 years on I'm 4 years into a technology-based career, no degree, renting a place to live, a strong social circle and a loyal partner. I know MBTI isn't concrete but the more I've learnt to overcome my weaknesses, the more my confidence and opportunities to excel have improved. Thank you for these videos.
Mine was a father who was physically around but not really involved. A mother who cared but was emotional at the drop of the hat and loads of health issues that I luckily grew out of by age 10. I wanted to play sports and do martial arts and I couldn't until I was older. School felt too dogmatic and wasn't until mid highschool I finally found my groove. Fellow ESTP, Teddy Roosevelt, was a great influence for me.
This man actually just gave my life story. I'm an ESTP, I lost my father when I was 5, I grew up in a disgusting environment, and made the best of it. Pretty freaky.
"Just let it (Ni) do it's own thing in the background." Exactly. Use your Ni as a tool to support the core competency of your Se/Ti. Chasing your Ni down into the subconscious rabbit hole is not where the ESTP should be. Use you Ni, don't indulge in it. Leave the unicorns and pixie dust for the intuitive types. Not saying you can't be spiritual, but it should be clear and authentic.
Michael Pierce, the first video of yours I watched was super monotone, yet the content was fantastic, so I kept watching all the way through. This is my second video, the content is also superb, AND you used proper vocal inflections, so it was FANTASTIC! As you can tell by my forthrightness, I am an estp. Thank you for your video!
Hmm .. I was actually watching a video that had me in it, because I had to, when this guy I knew walked up and asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I told him "Her." And, he said, "But, you are her." and I said, "No. Look at her. She's full of confidence and ability, wildly intelligent and really gets things done. I was there when it was filmed, you know, and I was worried, dithering and acting like an idiot." He didn't get it but .. yeah ... People often think I am terribly confident and commanding a room when really I am feeling very vulnerable and asking for help. Well, sometimes it really is the other thing because it's important, but most of the time it's what I said first.
(ISTP) Thanks Michael! I particularly liked the comparisons of the ESTP type and functions to other types and functions. It really helps for identifying and understanding others -- especially addressing the ESTP vs. ENTJ comparison (or Se vs. Te). As an ISTP, I found that some of these ideas resonated with me as well, especially the bit about "trial and error" approach near 12:00.
Well this was a whole lot more comprehensive than any ESTP website I've ever been on haha. Definitely sounds like the ESTP's I know! They're a whole lot more interesting than people give them credit for, in my opinion. Also this was hilarious 😄
Exactly. I think more folks don't make more estp stuff bc frankly estps aren't asking for it. They aren't interested. They're too busy estp-ing to watch vids about it. But those of us who know them appreciate the info that helps us understand them. They're *awesome*.
I had a very interesting ESTP head chef As an INTP there were lots of problems and I would have probably been more annoyed with them had I not known more about socionics. He kept pressuring me to pay attention, act, stop zoning out, do something, even though in my opinion I was very attentive, got everything done, and was not zoning out at all (at least compared to the "spectator" position I opt for in every other scenario) Nothing I ever said could really ever get an edge in, unless it was me being willy nilly about Ni sort of stuff. That "naive" deep thinking side to ESTPs really gets crushed easy when I take their "no bull" approach to philisophical things like what is love, what happens in the afterlife, how to attain happiness or what it really is. It's like the tide suddenly turns and I feel like an asshole, knocking anything they say into dark territory, but it's like "Ok now you've finally seen the not dumb me for a bit"
Hm, interesting to see Sherlock as an ESTP... I've also been reading his stories lately and I noticed he does seem to lead with a sensing function (he himself seems to value his observational capabilities above all else). I eventually settled on ESTJ though, but I think I was dead wrong there. I think it's really hard to differentiate Si + Te from Se from the outside. It makes so much sense though. His need for constant stimulation (including the drugs), His focus on facts first, but great ideas in the background, his powers of deduction out of hard information... It all fits perfectly. I think I learned so much from this video. About Se in general and ESTP's specifically. Thank you.

Hey Michael, I really enjoyed the inspection of the philosophical aspects of the ESTP I look forward to the possible future video in which you distinguish why you are an INFJ and not an INTP. I think this would shed much light on the two types and yourself. (I understand that is something that is difficult to do)
Andrew Camarillo i am surprised people have this delimma. but then again my mom is classic and clear cut intp. so i guess im so very familiarized. to me infj is dreamy romantic and very concerned with peoples inner minds and feelings. intp not concerned with peoples opinions. more into 'nerdy' things and proud of it.

There is definitely a male majority among ESTPs. But your other point of cultures discouraging women to be straightforward could be right. Anyways, an ESTP is probably the most stereotypical male type so it wouldn't surprise me if it had the least amount of women of all the types.
I have to admit: I used to view ESTPs as one-dimensional, ruthless playboys/girls because that seems to be the stereotype. But then I realized that the singer of a band called HIM, Ville Valo, might actually be an ESTP and it changed my perception of the type completely. Externally Ville Valo seems more like an FJ or even FP (a romantic, poetic guy singing gloomy love songs) but the smirk and the tendency to break down the serious conversations with smiles or jokes seems veeeeery ESTP for me. It's really fascinating. th-cam.com/video/jdRA3bKGImw/w-d-xo.html
I died when you put ejarendee in there. That guy is my hero. I understand if you don't want to make videos anymore, but don't take down all of of the videos you already made. I'm an infj and I learned so much from his direct and simple teaching style. I think infj and estp speak each others' language. The infj can learn a lot from how the estp directly talks about an idea, while the estp can learn a lot from the infj's abstract but coherent (at least to the estp) ramblings about a topic. God, I miss that guy.
ESTP here. Loves it, but have to write all down in order to start memorising. Even understanding at times. English not being my native language made me think this was the reason not getting the stuff at once. Well. Half written down. Getting exhausted at these long, circomvulated sentences. Happily enriching my vocabulary, though. Next step: rewriting all in summarised bulllet points to go to the points. 11:01 "ESTP has little patience for roundabout reasoning and with fact spewing over the tentative introductions of anything that clearly could cut to the chase but isn't gor some reason". WTF 😳😵💫 😁
20:35 is what happened to EJArendee, now calling himself "God's friend". @Michael Pierce, what are your thoughts on types rounding themselves out? As in, channeling their inner dual. INFJ to ESTP. ENFJ to ISTP. ENFP to ISTJ. You get the idea. Basically, what if you put a conscious focus on using your inferior and tertiary functions often, without thought or debate.
mz norI get crazy, why we (as ISTP) can’t share what’s going on in our mind? I feel like have nothing to share with others sometimes. Another ISTP issues is we are invisible among friends or family.
I concur. I think he's a maladjusted, impulsive, reckless, narcissist and terminally insecure ESTP. Unlike most older, better adjusted ESTPs, Trump relishes in his bragadoccio style of overcoming the opponents by shouting and bullying.
I agree with weak Fe: always making conflict, no team-work in the white house, fires his staff-members all the time. Also agree with showing strong Te: he instructs others all the time and quotes external facts. Just read any article or tweet: "Late on Thursday, Trump instructed the Office of the United States Trade Representative..." He also shows strong Ne, look at picture of his former office: 100 of unrelated pictures and other stuff at the wall and at his desk. Likes also new things: he approved using the mother of all bombs quickly after becoming president. Not showing Se-Ti as he could not accept the reality of the low attendance at his inauguration. Called the pictures fake news. He's no ESTP to me. And I know a lot of ESTP's, good ones and bad ones.
Also, question Mike. Have you ever thought about developing your own sort of "test" in helping others find their type? I find that you go WAY more in depth and substance than many other Jungian hobbyist on TH-cam.
Since he refers so much to celebrity types, i think he approves of their test. Or whatever is behind the mighty paywall. Though, in his typing videos, and especially part 3 if I remember well, he says it's more about introspection, etc, so just picking a type for yourself and see if it fits is the best way to go. (While learning about the functions, I guess)
Of all the MBTI commentators your presentations are the most interesting and soothing. Your voice sounds warm and reassuring with a fine flavor of self deprecation. I’ve consistently tested as an ENTP, but this ESTP presentation is leaving me with a big bang of Ni insight. My associative connections always come after a bit of fiddling, not as a global connection like Ne. Thanks! 🥹
Thanks for your ♥️! I would sincerely appreciate your input on the issue of Tony Stark. Most MBTI commentators make him an ENTP. I say he is clearly an ESTP. Tony is an adventurer, not an ENTP philosopher. He is materialistic and impulsive, not a forward thinker who considers consequences. This ENTP always asks: “Why bother ?” An ESTP would never demand proof of value in action, they need the action fix. ENTPs shrewdly wait for the 2nd wave. Thoughts please! 😎

@@MrLuigiFercotti Self aggrandizement is Fi. Moral priniciples is also Fi. Trump happens to be a Gemini ENTJ, which is why you see him as hard to type.
Hey! I mean, I can do my best. If you are comfortable with it, you could upload a video to TH-cam, but have it viewable only by link, and then send the link to michaelpiercechannel@gmail.com. And here's some questions you could go through, as well as whatever else you feel like talking about. I know it's a bit weird and impersonal talking to yourself, but it gives me time to think and write up a response. But if it really bothers you we can figure something else out. Anyway, here's some questions: 1. What type do you think you are? (I know you don't know but what's on your mind will be helpful) 2. What interests you about typology? How did you get into it? 3. You are on a trolley that's barreling down the tracks. It is going to plow into five people and kill them. However, by pulling a lever you can make the trolley go down an alternate track, where only one person is in the way. Do you pull the lever? 4. What if the one person is a toddler? 5. What if you aren't on the trolley, but on an overlooking bridge. Next to you is a very large man who is leaning precariously over the edge watching this all happen. If you push him off, he would block the train and stop it from hitting the five people. Would you do it? 6. Did you enjoy answering these thought experiments? How would you rate the quality of your experience? 7. What's a controversial topic you're fascinated by and how do you feel about it? 8. What was your experience being typed by DSP and TwFP? And that's all I've got. I'm not a pro-typer, but I'm happy to help.
Can anyone shine a light on an issue that's been bothering me? If an ESTP, in this case Trump always avoids an issue, goes silent when asked, answers with cookie cutter statements and generally behaves like Trump when asked about Russia, what does it mean? Is he ashamed? Is he worried about other's perception of him (like when Hillary Clinton dubbed him "Russia puppet" and he almost snapped? Does he fear / worry about something tangible?
An ESTP would like to know if you could summarize this video into 500 words or less and use more examples please.
haha love it - same question from another ESTP
True. Got bored when he started to explain about other types. Hahah.

I did not have the same life, but I got through a lot bullying in my childhood (6-12) that literally pushed me to be the way I am today.

And here's some questions you could go through, as well as whatever else you feel like talking about. I know it's a bit weird and impersonal talking to yourself, but it gives me time to think and write up a response. But if it really bothers you we can figure something else out.
Anyway, here's some questions:
1. What type do you think you are? (I know you don't know but what's on your mind will be helpful)
As a huge Trump supporter i'm happy he's the same type as me!
Stop describing me!
People should make more ESTP videos really (is an estp-a👍)
I wanna know more bout me but then😂😂where the fuq are you people
I don't think Donald Trump is an ESTP, unless you also add in mental illness of some kind.
Talk fasterrrr!!! (and louder)
Lol. 1/10th the views of NT/NF videos and most of the viewers probably not ESTP's . . .
I wish I was an ESTP xD
That make sense I will c:
another person what's your personality type?
@@lovewho ...for us ESTP gals lol
ejareandee thinks trump is an estj....
Donald Trump? Thomas Edison? are you insane lol
Notification squad ;)
You found a great way to end your videos.
Does it matter? The guy has a personality disorder. Type doesn't matter if you have a mental illness.
I got lost listening to you this. Too theoretical. Give me examples.
I like your videos, but I am so tired of unnecessary formal/hard language and extreme lack of emotion/expressionism in speech.
