A very close case was Tagore's open air school in ShantiNiketan, India. His philosophy, his literary works, his festivals, his music, his non fiction... everything could be recited every day. I believe Auroville is a similar 2nd although a Eutopian venture. Aurobindo and Tagore was modern Rishis of Eastern philosophy.

"If my happiness at this moment consists largely in reviewing happy memories and expectations, I am but dimly aware of this present. I shall still be dimly aware of the present when the good things that I have been expecting come to pass. For I shall have formed a habit of looking behind and ahead, making it difficult for me to attend to the here and now. Alan Watts understood the Asian mindset better than George Orwell, who was horrified when he contemplated the Asian "virtue" of behaving in a "mindless" manner (similar to Russell Brand's idea at 4:49). Orwell apparently couldn't grasp the concept of "contrived virtue" as opposed to what Watts calls the pure nature of "true virtue" -- here's an animation of Watts' ideas... th-cam.com/video/cegl1BZ-0tI/w-d-xo.html

Alan Watts Quotes about “Ego”: We do not realize that our so-called love and concern for the individual is simply the other face of our own fear of rejection. Yes, the ego trip of letting go of ego... like 'the grasping on to the goal of letting go' - we can easily lose sight of the possibility of contradictions, but 'to one who feels pulled/gets their meaning through ~ attaining a higher level of spiritual/universal understanding and connectivity: immersing themselves in 'cultivating that intent' is necessary.

The problem too often is that people prefer to talk about it then actually just get on and do it,we can choose to keep on paying attention to our egoic selfish urges or we can just get on and do the work...less talk and more doing.Westerners love talking about stuff...endlessly talking talking concepts and ideas...it all gets really boring after a while.
Ego is something most of us need more of or at least a healthy robust ego that can then withstand a certain annihilation, most of us do not have that and it can be dangerous to bypass ego and pretend to some spiritual Oneness that the small ego cannot withstand or integrate.
I'd say be careful Russell...one of my favourite spiritual teachers says that it is important to do necessary healing as well otherwise whatever spiritual expereinces you have will not be integrated and will remain at conceptual level..unembodied.Embodiment and wholeness is much more useful and I would rather be around whole grounded people then those seeking enlightenment, they tend to avoid so many things and have major blind spots.

The nation analogy is brilliant. Note, overthrowing a nation requires a nation to do the overthrowing. Ego makes a new hidden version of itself in the overthrowing process to perpetuate its supposed existence. To live without the ego requires learning first to live completely and authentically with it while it holds purpose (such as nations), or loving it as an old friend when it accepts your invite for tea-not doing it from obligation or want to kick it out after. Knowing thyself, self facing, much like Jung introduced and Pathwork deepened, in conjunction with non-dual meditative experiences of being aware of awareness is the balanced outer and inner paths of awakening to self and removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s constant presence-for it is what we are.

I'm learning to just float around and let my ego do the driving. Good stuff.

I love Alan Watts. He looks like he might smell like a cross between Old Holborn and Petuli Oil

I love Alan Watts, I have anxiety issues and took a page from his book and now I "do without doing" and I have had a fantastic response.

0:04 classic sign of not telling the truth, he shakes his head when he says Loads of You have Asked.

Alan has always been great medicine. I’m so glad you spoke about those sounds that we did not know were inside us as you did in your interview with Wim Hof. I’m fairly certain you have seen the Timothy “Speed” Levitch documentary, The Cruise. He relates a great expression of that sound during lovemaking, “That ‘ooogh’ moments of life.” Here is the scene:
