Fun sesh- thank you! Perhaps my favorite idea of McKenna's is that we are not being pushed along by the lie of our history, but rather we are being pulled forward by our inevitable ecstatic future. I find that to be a healthier and more accurate way of experiencing life.
The only problem with psychedelics is that it can only show you the way.. the real work is living your life. Opening your heart and making the right choices. 💚
Definitely not a problem. Psychedelics give us the download, the unveiling of the information we need through an experience. What kind of magic would there be to this contrast and duality based reality if there was a quick magic pill for everything? Our job is to put that message of the psychedelic experience into practice. With motor practice, comes mastery. Integration brings long lasting results into our life, that no money can buy. The point of struggle is to understand true gratitude, a diamond is a piece of carbon that undertook pressure extremely well. The lotus was born in the mud. Every rose has its thorn. We do not understand hot, until we experience cold. Duality and contrast are the way this third dimension teaches us, by going through the experience. By mastering our desires and temptations. By taking ownership and responsibility for our lives and how we feel.
I have completely fallen down the McKenna rabbithole since you introduced me to him. Thank you so much, he's absolutely fascinating, his use of language is superlative and he has an amazing sense of humor. @Heloise O'Byrne That's all fine and dandy but let's face it none of us know sh!t and ultimately all end up in the same place - in the ground. Nice "thought" :)
@Heloise O'Byrne I should learn more. That is true. I must read some Carl Jung. I don't read enough. Too much time engaging in shallow arguments on social media. I would ike to think there was something else for us, but I can't. I consider myself with a reasonably good level of intelligence. But nah I can't grasp the spiritual thing. About 4 years ago my sister got an ear infection. I kept shouting at my her for cleaning her ears out with cotton buds. It was a very bad infection. She was so stubborn and would not take my advice. I could not emphasise enough how dangerous it was and that she must get medical attention soon. Then a few nights later my sister went into some kind of seizure. We called the paramedics and they placed her into an induced coma until they could assess what was going on. Basically she was already dead by "brain-stem death" but we had no idea at that point. The doctor said it is very rare but my sister died of meningitis of the brain. My mother had the decision to turn off the life support. My sister died in strange circumstances. She was just 38. She was engaged to be married. And excited about becoming a grandmother. She was a ray of sunshine. The party girl. Full of life and energy. Loved by all she truly was. Sorry it's depressing but my point is where did she go? If it is all synchronised then what was my sister synced to? Because the only thing I can compare it to is a PC shutting down.
Its like when being a child time seems so long because of we are experiencing new experiences all the time and when we age we experience new things far less so time feels faster.
Time can only exist where there is movement. Our mind is moving and time follows. Only in stillness can time stop. J Krishnamurti speaks about this topic in a very profound way
You fail to resgister multiple realities, and quantam theory. There is always motion , regardless of perception. But there may not always be perception that experiences movement. Time will not cease with conscious perception.
@Darren I am clearly enlightened as to why you turned comments off on your video. It appears you may have swapped one deluded state with another. Why must you deal in absolutes, Darren? I would wager you have gone from one extreme spiritual camp to another. Is it not possible that there are parts of both schools of belief - religion and psychonautic experimentation - that are correct? Personally, I would not pretend to be certain either way. Our perception of time comes from our awareness of mortality. We discovered our time on earth not invent it. Biologically and cosmologically, time exists inherently at this level of being.
I am not so sure that is a great way of viewing the concept. Our minds could not even have an opinion without the ability to perceive time. And although we lack the ability to perceive consciousness outside of the realm of time...we can attempt to infer. What does consciousness look like without time as a factor? Would consciousness even have meaning at that point, or would it simply be an infinity of algo results? That comment took me maybe 3 minutes to type. Those 3 minutes are equal to N oscillations of some atomic structure that we use for synchonization of time perception.
Terence really was one of the best thinkers that ever lived in my opinion. It's a real pity that we lost him as young as he was. Discovering him as a young 18 year old completely changed the way I viewed the world and the nature of society and culture. It took me a good couple of years to come back to earth after that. So happy you're doing these videos Russell and that more people will get the chance to discover him!
“A subliminal poetry to reality” very eloquently put. As a young scientist I used to note incidences such as the car wash theme as coincidence. However, they continued to happen and often seemed to coincide with a life event. As a family we have often remarked upon them and found them amusing. in the works of Graham Hancock, John Anthony West, Terrence McKenna, David Icke, Dr Steven Greer & Cameron Grant I found one common theme; consciousness. It led to an epiphany which turned my previously held paradigm on its head and I now believe that: Consciousness is preeminent in The Universe and matter is created from that. We live in a conscious universe and we are part of that consciousness, woven into it as we are the fabric of the physical universe. We can manifest reality through focussed thought and attention. We have known this for thousands of years and it is why people of all denominations pray collectively in groups. (Incidentally, it took a Jack Grealish goal at Villa Park for the penny to drop with me 🤣) I now look for the subliminal poetry in reality and consider those “coincidences” to be “synchronicities”. It feels like The Universe is trying to get your attention. Gently slapping your face and saying “come on, wake up. Something important is about to happen”.
Beautifully put into words that resonate with me as my mind pulls in examples from various sources and I feel like I have seen a veil lifted that explains how it is all connected. Many years ago I had the thought that everything is connected. Namaste
I once heard that Time stands for Things I Must Earn. It appears to be true in my case - there are many ideas that seemed very important to me when I was younger and now that I am in my 50s they no longer even matter. Terrence's concept blows my mind; I don't want to waste a lot of energy pondering it and just let it be something that is not my business to understand right now. Meanwhile, I will have to mundane everyday tasks like pay bills or take out the garbage.
There is nothing to contemplate with Meditation, actually you are just taking a little time out to not contemplate anything and by doing that your awareness will grow without you doing much of anything but attending to your mundane chores. :)
That was great, thanks Russell ! More Ram Dass please, he really helped me find myself. In a weird way, Ram Dass cam into my life when my brother sent me audio files at the beginning of the 90s. Years later, I learned from my uncle that my father, deceased when I was 13 years old, also listened to Ram Dass in the 60s-70s before I was born. He recorded him talking on the radio and played it again and again to his brothers and friends, so they could better understand life and reality. It became a deep connection to the father I lost in my youth, before I could talk philosophy and spirituality with him. So hearing Ram Dass is like sharing a moment with my father.

The opening of William Blakes poem says a lot about the nature of reality "To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour"
Time is relative, anyone who has taken psychedelics knows.. time seems to stop when tripping, or seems to not exist. But since reality is perception based, we all perceive it differently. Theres absolute truth and relative truths, example to us, the sun sets, thats relative truth, in absolute truth the sun never sets. So its all relative perspective.
Using psychedelics that hacks the perception of how you perceive time does not seem to effect the macro-aspects of time in any significant way. If you dream for 20 minutes and it feels like 10 hours...did 10 hours pass or did you perceive 20 minutes as what you believe to be about 10 hrs?
Addendum: that also excludes the aspects of: you only perceive that 20minute dream as 10 hours...AFTER you wake up. Your mind seeks to define a perception that was non-real and incomplete.
I had a few trips where when I "woke up" 10 hours had seemed like 10 minutes. And I have had atleast 1 or 2 trips where I maintained full sentience the entire time: and 10 minutes was equal to 10 minutes. Before, during and after.
@@maninthemirror7881 That is not really a good explanation of the concept of time. You are describing perception, not time. You can argue that time requires perception, but that is kinda like saying up requires down. Which is still interesting...if you think a few more steps in some N dimensional direction.
I still don’t understand it but I received this: “It’s all going to happen faster and faster.” Dolores Cannon has said that the ET’s have said we have invented something (time) that does not exist, and only once we realize time does not exist will we be able to “leave” this planet and truly travel.

"When mind is quiet, all is Self. When mind moves the world rises, So be Still, throw away everything, and be Free. Then, when mind is pure, you will see Self in all beings. Give up seeing with the outer eye and the Divine eye will open. To still the mind question the source of "I" Look into what does not come and go, and be That. The mind moves only because it is attached to something, So do away with what is dear to the mind. Withdraw from attachments and decide to return to Awareness-Being-Bliss by keeping Quiet. When mind touches Being it becomes Being. The concept of freedom removes the concept of bondage. Then use all your strength not to be called back by the concepts of old habits and dissolve into Freedom itself." ~ Papaji

“Time is believed to be composed of the past, present and future. Of these three, the past is past only in reference to the present and the present is present only in relation to the past, future is future only in reference to the present. So all three being interdependent, even for their very existence, it has to be admitted by sheer force of logic that none of them is real. Therefore, time is not. Experience is the only criterion by which the reality of anything can be decided. Of the three categories of time, past and future are not experienced by any, except when they appear in the present. Then it can be considered only as present. Even this present - when minutely examined - reduces itself into a moment which slips into the past before you begin to perceive it, just like a geometrical point. It is nobody’s experience. It is only a compromise between past and future as a meeting point. Thus present itself being only imaginary, past and future are equally so. Therefore, time is not.”

The main character became a boy and a man at the same time. I've always found these synchronistic events amazing. If anyone is interested I can recommend that book. Although it takes months to read. It's what draws me towards you the most is how your mind works, and then getting to hear your point of view and opinion on fascinating topics. Cheers
Also to Kates question, mushrooms told terence "what you call time we call man" if you do psychedelics you remove 'man' from the equation as you're a ball of energy and time no longer exists which is why it can feel like you've been gone for thousands of years but it's a matter of minutes which means the removal of 'man' to us is the removal of 'time' to them and what we perceive as the past or future are just events that's happened or will happen therefore we can visit these events, I don't like to call it time travel as time isn't relevant, I need to figure out a better way to describe this and a more accurate name for this.

J.B.S. Haldane: “I have no doubt that in reality the future will be vastly more surprising than anything I can imagine. Now my own suspicion is that the Universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose.” From the book "Possible Worlds", I believe. So, no, Mckenna was not the first.
Didn't someone say reality is stranger than fiction long ago? It's all universal, and that's all McKenna was ever saying anyway. He certainly didn't claim any ideas as his.
What he said makes so much sense!! If there’s more going on, it’s more energy generated, and time speeds up, or would seem as such to where we are. As opposed to historical times when there were less people, before digital age of connection… I get that! Time has never mattered to me unless I have something to do at a certain time… otherwise I prefer sun up, sun down way of living… work/rest time in between 🤗💗💫
The way you phrased "Subliminal poetry to reality" is the perfect way to phrase the intimate connectedness of all things that you being to notice through the use of psychedelics

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary; His understanding is infinite."
I shave to totally agree with Terrence, saying reality is far more strange than anything we could imagine. The things I’ve heard and read in books like ‘Seth Speaks’ and in books about the indigo children alone, talk about reality in a way I couldn’t imagine in a million years. Before my NDE last year, I was bored with my life. I had been everywhere I wanted and done most of my dreams and didn’t care if I died, cause I believed I’d accomplished everything too soon. Now, I realize I could live a million lifetimes and not experience most of it. This realization has made my life much more interesting then I thought it would ever be again.
I feel like the time idea here (to describe it at its most basic and in my own words) sort of explains how a particular event or series of events can "age us" in that so much growth or change takes place in a period of time that it does feel as though time has either sped up or slowed way down.
Hi Russell. I can only encourage you in having Dennis McKenna on your podcast. I met him in NYC several years ago and can attest to his good nature and profound wisdom extremely relevant to the predicaments of modern humanity. He’s not whistling Dixie here!
I just find it amazing and kinda mind blowing sometimes, that I can understand the wider scope of vast concepts or ideologies by feeling and not understand the logistics and equations (which are so far and beyond my academic intelligence). I literally have always felt the urge to lead life by that deep feeling of energy. Yet largely pushed it down, masked it, or ran away from it. I feel this connection pretty strongly across many different fields of interest, but am having a hard time narrowing in to a clearer picture (or rather, a picture my tiny brain can conceive). It leaves me feeling frustrated and crazy. 😵💫 but I’ll keep searching and listening because I’m not built to ignore the feelings. Anyway, hope we keep going with all of this. Thanks again Russell!
Hi Russell, I have really enjoyed your series on the late great Terence Mckenna and I especially love the discussion around the nature of time. These aspects of the human condition (Time, Distance, Consciousness, Love, Emotions, Theories, the attractive/magnetic nature of our thoughts, and fundamentally the big question as to are humanity unique in the universe or are ETs all around us etc) are all worth discussing on this channel in great depth since it is with more discussion on these topics, rather than the day-to-day minutia of Democrats versus Republicans etc. that humanity as a whole will progress in the right direction (a direction that will lead us more quickly toward the face-to-face meeting with our ET brothers and sisters). The topic of time as discussed by Terence is very much reiterated and confirmed (expanded on to the nth degree) in the series of videos (more than 250 but not all on time/gravity) at the TH-cam channel called Cosmic Agency. You ask at the end of the video today, who else should we get onto this channel and my response to that question would be Gosia (as the owner and presenter of the channel mentioned above) since she could tell from her first-hand experience of chatting with benevolent ETs all about what they have told her as to the nature of time and how humans have got it just so incorrect. They tell her of how they use their more advanced knowledge of time/distance/gravity/consciousness/electro-magnetism to teleport their gigantic ships from their star system to ours. She speaks almost daily to one of the most experienced time travellers of the race of beings I mention above and how that lovely lady ET being has done so many time jumps that she has come to the conclusion that while she can easily travel back in time in her super-powerful extra-terrestrial fighter ship to make changes to the course of a given timeline (in effect undoing a pending negative event) that upon her arrival back in the exact time that she left on that "trip" from, then, in fact, there was no modification whatsoever to that "current" timeline (despite the change she made in the so-called "past" timeline. She concluded that each person has a distinct timeline that sort of coagulates or correlates to other individual timelines to make a collective timeline (which is very similar to the way two individuals can be inventing the same invention in differing parts of the world around the same time in that their thoughts are sort of intertwining despite the distance and despite many humans who believe that their thoughts cannot and do not leave their heads). With each individual having their own timeline then that means that when she changed the event in the past it actually only affected herself on that timeline and in jumping back to the current she effectively left that changed event (and the others affected by that change) on that other timeline, not bringing that change with her into the timeline she originally came from. Since coming to all these conclusions through her own ET experiences (and through the many incarnations across time that she has lived and remembered) she has not evolved to the point where she can manipulate time as it affects her (at her own will through consciousness) so that if she wishes to slow the time around her then those in her presence suddenly experience her moving at a super-fast speed like she could walk 100 circles around the other person and all they would see is the blur of a fast-moving individual circling them (as is seen in the Marvel movies with the powers possessed by Pietro as the brother of Wanda). Anyway, all this is reported on the videos of the Cosmic Agency and if you are truly interested in understanding more about the real nature of time and its connection to gravity and consciousness then I suggest you check it out and introduce your audience to the amazing lovely lady (from Poland originally although she speaks Polish, English and Spanish fluently) who is the owner of that channel. The ideas proposed could be no more out there than those of Terence who is after all only reporting back what he has observed in visiting the altered states of existence that have been facilitated by the plant medicines (which you can see are not recommended by those same ETs for the reasons that I put in my comment on that earlier Terence-related video). Anyway, thanks for reading all that blurb above, and thanks so much for bringing the thoughts and topics that you hold dear (such as those proposed in Terence's work) to the forefront of human consciousness. In fact, it is the simple fact that humanity is evolving and awakening that is making these esoteric and far-from scientific norm theories abound even more (you are speaking for the zeitgeist (the coagulated thoughtforms) in other words since these thoughts are more and more on the tip of the mind of those many who are awakening/awakened). All the best Brovva, take care and don't let those silent invisible enemies (spike proteins/deep state/cabal/reptilians - whichever you choose) get the better of you...!! Lots of love, Tony.

Fun sesh- thank you! Perhaps my favorite idea of McKenna's is that we are not being pushed along by the lie of our history, but rather we are being pulled forward by our inevitable ecstatic future. I find that to be a healthier and more accurate way of experiencing life.
Just the sound of McKenna's voice expands my consciousness and fills me with love somehow

The only problem with psychedelics is that it can only show you the way.. the real work is living your life. Opening your heart and making the right choices. 💚
I can't see that as a problem... 🙂...unless one was hoping for a quick fix...
Whats the problem?
By taking ownership and responsibility for our lives and how we feel.
exactly..it's one thing to be aware of truth..it's another to actually live it

So is the calender, constellation, status, society...
@@thetarderman Time would easily exist without mortality.
Joe Dispenza. The man's mind is incredible!
Dispenza is heavily underrated. Dude's on another level.
It led to an epiphany which turned my previously held paradigm on its head and I now believe that:
Consciousness is preeminent in The Universe and matter is created from
that.
We live in a conscious universe and we are part of that consciousness, woven into it as we are the fabric of the physical universe.
We can manifest reality through focussed thought and attention. We have known this for thousands of years and it is why people of all denominations pray collectively in groups.
(Incidentally, it took a Jack Grealish goal at Villa Park for the penny to drop with me 🤣)
I now look for the subliminal poetry in reality and consider those “coincidences” to be “synchronicities”.
I definitely feel like time has sped up at least it sure feels like it.

You don't need drugs to show you time dose not exist. Just go to sleep. All will be revealed.
@@maninthemirror7881 That is not really a good explanation of the concept of time. You are describing perception, not time.
You can argue that time requires perception, but that is kinda like saying up requires down. Which is still interesting...if you think a few more steps in some N dimensional direction.

“Time is believed to be composed of the past, present and future. Of these three, the
past is past only in reference to the present and the present is present only in relation
to the past, future is future only in reference to the present. So all three being
interdependent, even for their very existence, it has to be admitted by sheer force
of logic that none of them is real. Therefore, time is not.
Experience is the only criterion by which the reality of anything can be decided.
Of the three categories of time, past and future are not experienced by any, except
when they appear in the present. Then it can be considered only as present.
Even this present - when minutely examined - reduces itself into a moment
which slips into the past before you begin to perceive it, just like a geometrical
point. It is nobody’s experience. It is only a compromise between past and future
as a meeting point.
Thus present itself being only imaginary, past and future are equally so. Therefore,
time is not.”

So, no, Mckenna was not the first.
Didn't someone say reality is stranger than fiction long ago? It's all universal, and that's all McKenna was ever saying anyway. He certainly didn't claim any ideas as his.

I like the ideas he is throwing out there. Thanks for putting me onto him.
This is the crossover my soul needed
I feel like the time idea here (to describe it at its most basic and in my own words) sort of explains how a particular event or series of events can "age us" in that so much growth or change takes place in a period of time that it does feel as though time has either sped up or slowed way down.
Keep up the great work Russell! Helps me escape the mundane, automated experience many of us are drowning in which has zero meaning.

Thank you for posting there Russell.
Wow what an amazing and different view on consciousness and it’s universal growth and expansion as a collective. Cheers
The drop-anchor metaphor. Wow. My thoughts have only jumped up and skimmed this idea a few times, but you have grabbed on fully and explained it so well. Also, 10:27: "You imagine Realities and you bring them down." WHAT?! What an epiphany! Thank you for putting your understanding in layman's terms for us who are levels under you:)
Your such an amazing teacher
5:30 that stuff happens all the time for me. I always feel the energy/consciousness is putting on a show just for me, lol.
This is the second time I have heard Terence talk. He seemed like a very wise man. Beautiful.
Please keep these McKenna videos coming!
Russell with respect I haven't swallowed a dictionary so in simple words I'd like to share 50 years of experience as a student of Meditation and eastern thought. This enjoyable video has prompted me to say that we all have the creator function going on within us and seems that the thinking mind is manifesting lots of stuff. This process contributes to the global experience. We all experience Enlightenment as well - When we are NOT thinking..........
