I've had a few close calls catfishing at night, bow mount foot control trolling motor has gotten me home 3 times, 1 time was 5+ miles battery was on its last leg about 100yds from the boat ramp
I bet there are some awesome blues right up against there haha. I might try it sometime when the water isn't moving so fast and I'm going down frontwards. I learned a couple lessons that night haha..
Happy new year Bro! Glad your okay thats a scary story for sure. I want to kayak fish on the missouri but that thing is mighty for sure. I have only fished at kaw point once because its so sketchy. Keep the content coming man 👊
Happy 2023 too man!! That day happened to be when the river was very high and moving. Live and learn.. Haha.. I tried to drop at Kaw Point a few months ago and the ramp was too low and just dropped off. Gonna try and get some daytime content here soon and we are getting back to filming so... Hopefully we'll have some good content soon. Keep killin it @TheKCFishPage
Been there done that more than once. Been thrown out a boat twice once on the Wakarusa River no big deal and once on the Kansas River by Topeka that one was scary was very lucky to catch up with the boat. Yes most urban boat ramps are sketch. Had a window broke at a boat ramp and nothing stolen. One time got to a huge argument with a "friends of the kaw" group on a Kansas River ramp cause they were blocking the ramp with about 50 people and yaks having a meeting.I asked them to move so I could launch my boat they said give them 10 min so they could finish their meeting I lost it about went to jail that day. People don't scare me just say I've walked both sides of the isles in this life. What comes of this.....knowing you lived life and stared it down, this world can get real in a blink, and always,ALWAYS have tools! Live it! let's go!
Oh the good ole "friends of the KAW" I know who they are. Sounds smart to have a meeting on a ramp and just tell you to hold your little horse's Haha. I would probably had the same reaction. My past definitely doesn't prove me to be a Saint but, I'm a different person now. God, my family and fishing has changed my life... Sometimes the devil wants to test you on the boat ramp.. But hey man, I'm glad you made it ok in Topeka. These rivers aren't no joke and like you said life can change in an instant. I know in the TH-cam I kinda joked about it but, I for real thought I was done. Thanks for the comment and story man. I appreciate you watching!!
Also, I stopped dropping at Turner Diagonal because it's just so bad. Bodies found, people breaking your truck while your fishing. It's real hard to relax and fish knowing your truck probably has no Cats and the window are broken.. That's most of the reason why it sucks that KAW Point closes now. Then you almost have to drive a bit to get a different spot to fish or... Go right to Turner ramp.
@@CatfishKC lots of smaller rivers, creeks to fish that hold big catfish. @@johnnyfish6051 I've fished some of these but, I haven't really Google Maps'd it like I have here and Kansas City. Not a bad idea. I'll check some of those out for sure. Google Maps is the best. Have a good night man!!
What boat ramp is that at the beginning/intro of the video? There are some houses you can see as your going down the boat ramp to launch. Looks like the boat ramp is in a neighborhood. Thanks!
I appreciate it brother. There's a lot that I have learned by trial and error on the river... My battery going dead was all on me though. I have an older motor and you know how that goes. I usually do the same thing and start it and let it run for a minute and then hit it. At least had those batteries. Thanks for watching man!! Have a killer 2023!!
Before I retired from the RR I used to have to set cars out there. There was a siding called Edgewater and when were were southbound from Council Bluffs at times we'd set a block of cars in the siding. Seems like it was always at night and there were always scary looking people hanging around there.
I bet with that job you did see a lot of interesting people. The river isn't the safest place and I've always carried whenever I go out.. It's just something you have to deal with If you love Catfishing.. Or in your case if you have to work there. I appreciate the story...THANKS FOR WATCHING!!! Have a great day!!
Exactly. I've met some really good people on the river. People just have to be aware of what's going on around them. Some place are just known for bad activity or people messing with your truck while you're on the boat. That's why I don't drop in a Turner Diagonal anymore. Best of luck to you too and have a great 2023!!
One night at 11pm kaw had 3 mph current and trees heading downstream. I jump up to grab my outer pole to miss a tree. As I grab the pole I see a guy arm locked to a floating tree towards the missouri river. I was like wtf and buddy said that's a dead dude. The guy responded back to me that he was ok. And were like screw this stay anchored up lol. Just like the guy did this kinda thing every night or some shit, he had no distress in his voice at all. Never heard if he made it out alive either. Weird shit goes on all the time
I have seen and heard some weird things. This is probably the weirdest thing I've ever heard about the Kaw. You just gotta be careful of the surroundings out there
I’m in the Kansas City area, and fish both Missouri and Kansas from a kayak. If your gonna go hard on you tube videos this year and need to build content, just give me a shout out I’ll fish anytime any where. 👍🏼

The water was high that night and the current was actually pretty strong even in the KAW. The MO just kinda sucked me in. Hahaha. It's completely my fault. I've fished on the Might Mo before with my boat but, when it's moving that fast I would rather stay on the KAW. I lived and I learned haha.
That is a shame. I used to put in there and fish both the kaw and Missouri quite a bit after they first built that ramp. Lot of us did. Caught my PB bluecat there on the Kaw at the 435 dam. Had my truck broken into there once but other than that never had any problems. It is a shame that KCK would let it turn in to that. KC Catfish used to have tournaments there of which I fished in a couple. I moved from KC in 2012 so I have not fished there since.
Ya I haven't heard lately if it has gotten better or not. Hopefully it goes back to being a 24 hour ramp so that we can go out and not worry about the gates being closed on us. I don't think that it is as bad anymore but, I am not sure. I remember them having tournaments there and wish they still had them out there. I know they still have some tournaments there and I hope to get into some of the upcoming ones!! Thanks for watching!!
Fishing on the Missouri River doing an all nighter near Nebraska City. Launched my boat from Riverside Marina. After fishing all night In the morning I wanted to explore the Hamburg Bend chute. So I approached the chute from the down stream end. Got a ways up the chute and found some good spots with steep depth changes. Eventually I got to a point where there are two wing dams on each side of the chute and the water was pouring through the gap crazy fast and turbulent. I made an attempt to go through it but chickened out. So I go back down the chute and into the river and start heading for the marina to go home. I ran out of gas just upstream of the Nebraska city powerhouse. Tried to paddle to the bank but wasn't making any progress. River was high and fast. I kept getting closer and closer to the water intakes for the power plant. I threw my anchor out and thank Christ it held. So I try calling everyone I know trying to get someone to come out and bring me some gas. Couldn't get ahold of anyone. So I thought I'd hang tight and someone would come along eventually. Now beyond the intakes for the power plant lies the entrance to the chute and at the entrance of the chute there is another pair of wing dams on each side of the chute again making crazy fast and turbulent water. Anyway as I'm sitting there waiting for someone to come by, my anchor starts to slip. I'm getting pretty nervous now because if I don't get sucked into the intake I'll end up having to go between those wing dams unpowered which is pretty much guaranteed to capsize me. Since I couldn't get ahold of anyone and no one seemed to be running the river, I swallowed my pride and called 911. 911 operator didn't know what to do and told me he'd call back. While I'm waiting for him to call back my anchor slips intermittently and I move about another 100 yards towards the intakes. Eventually he calls back and said someone was coming. The 911 operator had called the Hamburg police department and the chief's son had a river worthy boat and eventually he came and brought me some gas and I was able to get out of there. If I hadn't done all that exploring I would have had plenty of gas to get back to the ramp
Your story had me scared just reading it. I don't know exactly what you are talking about but, I was actually going to do a video on running out of gas on the top of the 435 Dam when the water was moving fast and the water was flowing over the pads. That was really scary. I might do that video just for fun.. I did the same thing as you bc I wad going to leave but, I wanted to check out the huge log jam under the highway and ended up using way more gas than I thought. I'm glad you made it safe and that your anchor held up. That's pretty much torture with that anchor slipping like that. Lessons learned right haha!! Thanks for watching btw!!
