    I would normally have selected a separate washer and dryer but bought the GE Profile All in One in Nov 23 and I truly love the machine. No more transferring wet clothes, no more static, saved space in my laundry room, no more high electric bills for the dryer, no more venting room temperature air out the house and spending money to recondition replacement air from the outside. The profile does take some relearning of habits, but I now run more smaller loads a week and it is no bother as I put in dirty clothes, start the timer to run early morning and wake up to dry clothes. Also love the auto dispense feature on the GE (think LG also has this feature) and really like the microban gasket for mold prevention. Thanks for a lovely review and a great informative channel!

    after 50+ loads through the GE, I can confidently say that lint builds up in and around the filter cartridge, including on the fins, and around the corner to the left which you can't see by looking in, and behind the back edge of the filter. also this lint remains damp even after drying cycles, so it WILL build up mold after a while. GE sells a set of cleaning brushes which do a great job in collecting this lint. I love this machine but I think it's extremely important to take the extra time every 40-50 loads to do a thorough cleaning. And clean the pump filter at the bottom! It also gets large amount of lint and other trinkets in it.

      Are the brushes specifically for this GE Combo? Will it curve around the bend and get the lint we cannot see?

      Look it up on youtube. People figured out how to solve this problem by adding foam around the filter body for a complete seal. Lint no longer bypasses the filter to reach the heating fins. If you let too much lint biuld up it will clog and can cause hardware failures.

      If anyone revisits this it's apparently caused because a complete seal surpasses ADA compliance requirements for pull difficulty 🙄

    I have an LG from Costco and love it! The motherboard did go bad, but LG sent a service technician. It cost a flat $350, all parts, all labor, and warrantied for 90 days. I generally put a load in before going to bed, and when I wake up it’s done. Love not needing to transfer. Great solution for small places!

    I absolutely love my GE one and done. I’ve had it about six months and no issues whatsoever. I am very regimented about cleaning the filter, running the self-clean cycle and the emptying the clean out at the bottom of the unit. My old washer and dryer are down in my basement so this was a perfect addition to a spare bedroom. No more endless trips to the basement.

      You don't need two combo units to do that. You just need one combo unit and one drier. This machine washes very fast. Dries slowly. We run a wash cycle. Move clothes to drier. Then run an another load in the washer and wash and dry it.

  • @sam85f
    @sam85f 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    We bought the GE one and done with the heat pump. I can’t overstate how much we LOVE this machine. There is no transfer, I find it is usually a little faster to fully finish the load then what is expect. And all the press about “wet cloths” is over blown. This rarely happens. The times it does, are as mentioned in this video, like a huge bulky load of wash. This happened to us before in a conventional dryer. Lastly we live in an old historic home with limited space for a machine. This unit solved that problem while allowing us more functionality and a bigger washer drum. I never want to go back to a conventional machine.

    • @ContraVsGigi

      I think that the ones complaining about not fully drying the clothes are stuffing the dryer. For resonable quantities, they will surely dry the clothes.

    We bought the GE thru Costco, got it on sale around Christmas for a little under $2K. I told my wife she can try it for 90 days; I kept the old washer and dryer in the garage in case she said no. I'm very happy that SHE is happy! We are keeping it.
    Today I was running a small load and pulled the lint filter to clean it. Something I have neglected is the foam filter sandwiched on the back side of the lint filter. I took it out and it was LOADED with fine lint that literally clogged the entire foam surface. It appears this foam filter does it's job, but I need to be better at maintaining and cleaning it, maybe at least once a month. LOL, I could read the manual, see what it says...
    Another BIG plus for me is this GE Profile only needs 120V to run. I very recently installed solar panels, an EG4 6000XP inverter and two 51.2V/100Ah batteries. This combo unit runs off my inverter and batteries with no problem! This makes me very happy; one more step to buying less power from Duke Energy and the capability of doing laundry in an extended power outage. We live in Florida and we've had 10 plus days of no power after a hurricane.

    • @EdwardFielding
      @EdwardFielding หลายเดือนก่อน

      We too have solar and were looking for smarter energy use. We have the GE combo. Only complaint is that they should have an easy to access hatch to get into the filter compartment for deep cleaning. This morning I screwed a drywall screw into an wooden yard stick and used it to pull out a big clump of lint.

    I had an LG combo washer/dryer for years and loved it, even with a large family. Would always use "more dry" mode to be sure the clothes were fully dry, and it's better if you can pull out the load while it's still hot right after it's done drying. But for me those minor inconveniences were more than made up for with the advantages - dirty in clean out without a transfer, no dryer vent to outside, 120V power instead of 220V or gas/propane for a dryer, etc.

      Those are nice things but there is a trade off. Notice how LG pulls ahead with small articles that can spin out a lot of the moisture. They are known for having a turbo wash that is quicker, but Yale is normalizing for the equivalent cleanliness and dryness. Not sure of the indicated wash times for each load. I imagine that might have made the difference for the colors load, but the bigger loads worked out better in the GE since it has a bigger compressor and blower fan allowing it to dry better. Another thing is .2 cu ft is not really a deciding factor since it's just a small amount of space.
      A metric that was missing was the electric use used over these cycle times. That would have been very telling.

      @@danyala.1659 I keep seeing this claim that the GE has a "larger" heat pump than the LG. While that might be true in terms of physical size, according to the specifications of each compressor part, the LG (EAR072MA) is actually more powerful in terms of BTU / hr (3700) and also has a higher COP. The fin spacing on the LG coil also seems to be denser, potentially indicating higher efficiency.

      @btober 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@riakata Not necessarily true. The wider spacing on the GE coil means lint is more likely to travel deeper into the coil, making it more challenging to clean. With the denser spacing, the lint is more likely to collect along the leading edge of the LG coil, and combined with the easier access to the coil, will be easier to clean as necessary over time.

    One issue you guys need to look into is the odor that the foam filter (on the GE One and Done) can eventually hold over time. I've noticed over the year of usage that washing some clothes that are smelly can leave a residue of a smell that starts to build on the foam filter. Also what could be contributing to this is the fact that the foam filter is in a small confined damp space that builds on the odor. These foam filters are great but the smell can start to build and I only noitced mostly after drying. The clothes stopped smelling fresh and more mildewy.

    Great content as always, thanks for an in-depth comparison, Steve! I've had the LG Combo for a few weeks, and when it comes to lint, I noticed that the trap on top barely registers any, while the rubber drum gasket is coated with it after a cycle that includes drying. If not thoroughly wiped down before taking the clothes out, lint transfers from gasket to clothes as you remove them. I wonder if your testing showed the same and if this is a design defect with the LG, choosing a "sticky" material for the gasket. Did your team observe something similar with the LG or GE Profile Combo?
    You're also quite right about LG's service capabilities. A tech they sent to diagnose the lint on gasket issue had no clue about this machine and didn’t even know how to take the top panel off when he tried to "have a look" inside...

    The LG has a large percentage of complaints of hardware issues with the drying. The GE has many complaints too about drying to, but people figured it out it's with a poorly designed filter. The consumer market figured out a relatively simple solution for it. After adding some foam to the outer edges to make a full seal on the filter, GE profiles issues seem to be solved. I'd go with the GE profile for now.
    LG makes amazing TVs... but their other devices are sus. There's a class action lawsuit with their refrigerators breaking down quickly and being unfixable.

    We bought an LG all-in-one. Dumb move. We had to sent it back and take the hit on the repacking fee. We did the 10 pound test to see if it really could be done in 2 hours. It can’t and it failed. If the load is over 10 pounds of anything you better buy a clothes line and put it up in your backyard. A heavy load of towels will NOT dry. We eventually were able to get it work for us, but the loads had to be really small and far less than the 10 pounds they advertise. So did we send it back just for subpar performance? No, it was also impossible to balance. Plus the delivery people damaged it when they brought it into the house and LG customer service would not return my calls/emails. My advice is wait on this one. The tech is not quite there yet.

    If you're deciding between combo or separate dryer, why not both? If you already have a working dryer you could just keep it and only replace your washer with a combo. The combos can easily be used in wash only mode so you can still power through laundry the old fashion way if needed but still get the advantages of set and forget washing and drying the rest of the time. Dryers tend to last a lot longer then the washer anyway. If you're just upgrading from a normal washer dryer pair no real reason to get ride of the dryer if it still works.

    I wish you would cover the difference in the drying features. It looks like you can't choose 'low heat' with the GE. LG does have that option. I have many delicate items and need to wash in cold and dry on low heat, but most dryers are way too hot for items I don't want to shrink. It looks to me that drying choices are a big difference between the two units. Any chance you can tell me the drying temperature differences??

    Thank you for the video! 👍 I've heard that because of the smaller heat pump in the LG it has a resistive heating element that it utilizes in conjunction with the heat pump to assist with the drying time.
    My question, does the GE use a resistive heating element or is it all heat pump doing the drying and does the LG unit use more electricity because of that heating element compared to the GE.
    The 5 year warranty on the GE's heat pump is way better than what LG offers and their history/fiasco with compressors in their refrigerators going bad...😬

    The fact that the GE version has a bigger heat pump system and a five year warranty on the heat pump system vs LG's one year makes the GE a much better choice in my opinion. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad LG introduced this machine because competition is never a bad thing. But having only a one year warranty on a washer and dryer combo with so many things that can possibly fail is a really bad thing.

  • @josepht1575
    @josepht1575 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've had nothing but issues with the new LG. I bought it from Home Depot and they only have a 48 hour window for returns. We returned the first one due to water spraying clothes in the fan cycle at the end of the drying. This ended up happening to the second one they delivered. So instead of contacting Home depot again, we called LG. They were polite and tried to assist but I really should have called Home Depot and requested them to return it because it's the biggest pos I ever bought.
    So now I'm stuck with this broken machine. LG sent a certified technician which did nothing but argue with us after all he did was check for errors. "Working as intended". On top of clothes taking forever to dry 5-12+ hours, the drain pump is constantly erroring out even though there's maybe a tiny bit of lint on one of two of the filter holes. This is a pain to deal with if you don't have the pedestal because you have to drain the reservoir to clean the pump lint filter and it's so low to the ground. I'm pretty sure this pump system is broken too because it's asking to be cleaned every 5 loads or so and we hear a gargling sound every 5-10 seconds while in dry cycle. Why would the pump be running constantly if there's a reservoir?
    So I have to call LG once again for the 5th+ time and argue with them that this pos is broken. This has been the most frustrating experience I've ever had buying something. I'd recommend anyone to buy their major appliances from someone who has a 15 day or longer return policy like costco so you don't have to experience anything like what I've had to.
    what's the chances of getting two broken units?! insane. The only thing I can think of is there was a bad batch of units that went out

  • @master-phat
    @master-phat 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't reccomend LG, their Main PCB's are Engineered to Fail roughly around the two Year mark. They use under rated High Current Resistors which basically takes out an entire Portion of the Circuit Board with it when its about to burn up and when it does, making Circuit Repair Pointless, on top of the Goop they submerge the entire PCB in. My Second PCB for my 2in1 just Burnt out AGAIN around the two year mark. Not a Coincidence in my Opinion. Also on my 4th Drain Pump, which is Fine, small Objects can and Will find themselves into that pump assembly, all other parts of the 2in1 appear to be in Mint Condition! Nothing like spending 400$ on a New PCB every two Years. Dunno about the GE

      these units require change of habits more than anything. put a load while you sleep, go to work, leave the house, come back and it's dry. they are less suited to chaining 5 loads on laundry day, and more to doing one a night and one when you go to work. honestly I think it has overall been a huge improvement for us, and no risk of forgetting to change the load and having it mildew.

    You stated that with separates, you can get more done. However, is it mot recommended to allow the machine up to an hour to rest between use?
    We have an energy efficient home with no vents for the dryer. For that reason, we bought 2 sets of Whirlpool washers and matching heat pump dryers to go with them.
    They have been in place for almost three years and have worked with no problems. I keep a Dewalt portable shop vacuum next to them and use it to clean both filters.
    I don't remember what we paid for the 4 units s it was a pretty big purchase of a total of 13 /14 appliances.
    These are appealing because they usually run on 110, I could have thrown three of them in the laundry room snd simplified things.
    Some folks are going to say you don't need multiple, but that depends on what your time is worth. Both I and my wife work downtown, so it's important to maximize the time we have st at home. Secondly, a combo unit would eliminate those times when you run the washer and forget to then move everything to the dryer.
