Pinned comment for future updates: -Feb 2024: after maintaining a very strict lint cleaning protocol, the machine is doing a sufficient job of drying our clothes. While I’d still say it leaves the laundry 1-5% damp, most of the time that’s fine and we’re making it work. -April 2024: This machine SUCKS! Stay far far away. We have been staying on top of every single maintenance tip and trick every single day (I literally manually clean and hand vacuum the lint screen after every single load), and what do you know, loads are STILL left completely soaked after a "drying cycle". Just pathetic. I stick a flashlight inside the "dryer vent" portal, and it looks filled up with lint gunk AGAIN, all over the blue fins, in the back corners, huge wet moist lint clogs, beyond unacceptable. Truly a defective machine that deserves a recall.
At end of video you said you were holding off calling service because you think you solved the problem. Was the solution the modification to seal the edges of the filter?
You have a one year warranty on this machine. Call Ge they will send a technician to troubleshoot. Mine was a what I call Lemon montage. Ge came to repair it over 3 times. It still didn’t work correctly. I was so upset after 3 months of no washer/dryer. When I called Ge I had no words I started crying. They ended up replacing with a brand new one. Just got it on Monday, so far no problems
Try this game changer - Turn the machine on, hit normal, then select timed dry for 1h 30 minutes. Then press and hold the normal button to save this as default. This completely solved for damp clothes and the machine still uses 1/3 of the energy of our old washer and dryer. I think the sensor dry option is way to liberal in determining when clothes are "dry" and hopefully this is something they can fix in a firmware update.
I have had this washing machine since July 2023 and in the first days the clothes did not wash or dry well but it was because we did not know how to adjust the settings, once we understood how it works we have not had any problems. I'm glad I bought it.
Before watching this video. Let me just say. I absolutely love this machine. Its the best appliance in my home. No problems whatsoever. Just need constant filter cleaning and you are good
its amazing! My clothes are softer, smell better, are way cleaner. Stuff that was dingy white turned bright white after using this washer! There are very specific things that need be done and having the water drain exactly 7 inches down makes huge difference on how clothes dry A+++++ for my family after 6 months
Wow ! we have the total opposite experience. We purchased ours in November of 2023 and it’s been great. We paid 2000.00 from Lowe’s. We do use the extra dry option and it dries really well. I do vacuum out the inside of the filter assembly system monthly because the filter that comes with it sucks! Hope your experience gets better.
Same, actually had to enable "Eco Dry" in the menu to keep from over-drying (oddly that menu option does not persist). With that setting though clothes come out as described, a quick shake and dry. Clothes are always hot. We do clean the filter after every use and do not see lint building up on the radiator fins, there is a little at the far end but nothing like shown in this video. Could be we tend to run smaller loads as there's only two of us.
I was seeing A LOT of drying complaints all over the internet about this thing. Then I found a Reddit thread about it and someone noticed the manual said to not have the drain hose more than 7" into the drain and for the fit to not be too tight because it creates a siphon effect and kills the drying ability. There were a ton of people on that thread who checked their drain hose, the installers had just shoved the hose way down into the drain and once they pulled it back to spec, their machines started drying way better. I'm not saying this is the problem with yours, but something for people to keep in mind if they are having trouble with their machine drying their clothes.
You can clearly see in the video that his drain line is like 5" into the thing @ 9:02. These first gen units are clearly flawed. It's why new ones are adding a rinse cycle to all those parts that get gunked up. And washing down the soapy water and lint down the drain is going to plug your drains eventually so add in the cost of a plumber to rod the drain or your time to do it yourself.
@@ryqarst4690 all I know is that we have had ours for about 6 months now and it's been fantastic. Drying is not an issue for us and nothing has gotten clogged. We clean our lint filter every time we do a load and I clean the trap on the bottom of it about twice per month. So far there have been zero issues. I will be happy to admit if/when there is
Sorry you experienced this problem. We got our GE Profile all in one for around $1800 from Costco last November and love it. As others have posted, we did change our washing habits. Moved to more loads with smaller quantities than less large loads. Wash clothes of similar weight and material seems to help eg jeans with shirts will leave something damp. Since you don't have to transfer clothes, you can set the load up to start at 530 am and you will have dry clothes at 730 am. You save money on the electricity your old dryer used as well as the expense of reconditioning conditioned air that the old dryer vented out of the house. And this unit is much gentler on fabrics due to the lower heat. You will have noticed there is no static in the clothes which is a problem I faced with my old dryer. Keeping my fingers crossed that the machine continues to work, but I got the 5 year extended warranty from Costco "just in case". Thanks for sharing your experience! And good luck for the future!
We've had ours a few months and it's changed how we do laundry. Early on we experimented after having some issues where some clothes were drying more than others. If you're having clothes not dry 100%, maybe try separating clothes by type a lot more. We've gone a little overboard, but have none of the issues you're experiencing. We always use the more dry option and add wrinkle care because we don't always get to it right away when done and it'll keep the drum spinning a few RPM while cooling off completely. Our clothes types are: t-shirts, towels, jeans, pants and sweatshirts, socks and underwear, whites, and delicates. It's just my wife and I and we do maybe three loads a week or so.
Even with a conventional dryer, you're supposed to clean the lint filter after every load. Letting it stay dirty will impact the performance of the machine.
Yes, but this is much involved. I cleaned mine out every single load. The filter doesnt capture the lint all the way and it blows it all around apparently making a mess inside by crucial parts
I did clean mine every load, even though it advertised that you didn’t have to do it every load, but it still didn’t work. Lemon clause. I just got my new one!
@@MysticPheonix369 It’s 3 times in Pennsylvania for anything. Three times as long as the first time (only the first) is within the warranty (for all those that are out of warranty now).
If you're having any issue with drying. Just use the more dry setting. Also make sure the lint filter is cleaned every time. No problems. Keep it updated also through phone app. I don't know why he had an issue but i had mine for 6 months. Works n drys perfect
There are so many variables. Types of clothing, mixed clothing, etc. I would absolutely not clean the filter every time, doing so will allow clumps of lint to get by the main filter onto the coil. I have modified the filter and zero lint gets by the cartridge. following the recommended notification, is sufficient, for I believed most people washing. Those with pets, may opt to do it sooner, but not every load, this will just cause more of a mess on the coil.
@@Kne2450 It’s all 100% removable. Look at what customers are going through with the lint issue getting worse after every Load washed. Also, people are damaging their coil by shoving vacuum cleaners in there. Even the brush can cause damage if you’re not careful. The solution is to make sure you have a clean coil to start with and then install the kit or make one up on your own and stop the problem from happening altogether. I’d like to see them fight me on the warranty issue personally on my own washer, Since my solution prevents damage, their factory unit creates damage. on their part, it’s all about the dollars. If you’re concerned about warranty, if the unit goes belly up, remove the strips, clean the rails, have them come over, serve them tea and cookies while they fix it. Some of us probably know more about the machine Thanks to Ben, and other channels out there then the installers or service techs who come to fix them. It’s a great machine when the kinks are worked out. First year model, you can expect many things to happen. The good news is, they could do over the air updates as far as wash cycles, and any software challenges.
@@Kne2450 the kit is removable if you need a warranty call.. I wouldn’t foresee it being a problem in my opinion, since it fixes a defect with the machines filter design which absolutely causes more issues.
I agree with many other commenters. We’ve had this since November 2023 and it’s been a game changer. Played with the settings (I like the “more dry” feature) and do more frequent, smaller loads. We have a toddler in the house and I’m constantly doing laundry. This machine has been the best investment for our home.
We've had one for 8 months. It's awesome. It's changed our lives so that we no longer schedule around laundry. I don't know what you are putting in each load, what products you put into the detergent/softener compartments or if you just have a bad unit, but this is not our experience. Also, I'd compare the "wet" laundry to a Bosch dishwasher. There is enough energy stored in any remaining moisture that taking the clothing out into a home environment flashes off any remaining moisture. You implication that shaking the clothes violently is over stated. Simply removing the clothes and flattening to fold will do the trick. TH-cam watcher Beware!
I bought this from Best Buy back in August of 2023. I encountered the exact same problem initially with this thing not fully drying our clothes, but after a couple of software updates, our GE Profile always gets our clothes perfectly dry every time. No exaggeration! Completely dry, everytime! In our situation, only the big and bulky comforters are the exception. We no longer experience that damp feeling in our clothes using this machine like we always did right after the purchase. I don’t know what GE did in the software update, but this thing works perfect for us. I do feel like it runs longer to dry than before and I would assume that it may use more watts than advertised now. But I absolutely LOVE this thing with the current software that it’s been running on for months.
I cannot even get mine to connect to the app to do the updates! The app developer replied to my review of the app & blamed it on an outage at the server. I will try to download it again when GE delivers the new unit to me, so we'll see.
There's a learning curve for these types of machines. Not overfilling, them like any washing machine, and putting clothes that are of similar weight will help your drying time.
I have the GE combo too and I’ve had it since November last year and I’ve had no issues the only thing I did was I added the more dry and after that my clothes came out completely dry And yes sometimes the lint will get pass the filter but what dryer doesn’t I would definitely have someone take a look at it because that is definitely strange if it’s not drying at all and you did deep clean the lint trap area so I think they’re just might be something malfunctioning Love your videos and hopefully you can get your combo fixed and hopefully you have a much better experience
@@OMGWTFLOLSMHyour replies on this thread sound like you don’t know how this particular machine work. Lint getting past the lint filter which is right before the evaporator coils. Not the water drain.
I've had mine for almost a year. You definitely have to clean the filter after every load and wash the filter every couple weeks (if you do laundry every day). I also use a brush to clean out the cavity around the filter about once a month. The only time we have ever had problems with the clothes getting dry is when the load is larger than the recommended size in the instruction manual. This took some getting used to because it is less than half the load size we used in our previous washer. So we have to do more loads than with a standard washer and dryer. However, even with the extra maintenance and smaller loads, I am able to keep the laundry caught up which is something I have never been able to do with the two machine system. It just feels like less work overall.
Its a really great concept. I bought one in September 2023 and it is amazing to start a load and wake up to dry clothes. I also love the energy saving aspects to reduce costs. Unfortunately 3 months after getting mine, it stopped heating and I am now entering my 4th month of it not working after 4 visits from techs that aren't familiar with the machine (and we live near Atlanta so you wouldn't think that would be an issue), waiting for weeks on backordered parts, and now they are saying I need to have the entire heat exchanger replaced. My wife is frustrated beyond belief and I wish I had never purchased this unit. All I get is the runaround and no resolution from anyone. This morning she indicated that it isn't even draining all the water and there isn't a way to run just a spin cycle like you can with other units to try and get it to re-spin the clothes dry so we can then move them into our old dryer to dry them like we have been doing for the past 4 months. And yes, we have checked the drain filter isn't clogged, enough clearance, etc as well as have the 4 techs. I regrettably recommend you avoid this model.
It happened to me too. When I lowered the drain hose to the floor to drain. It is a night and day difference when it comes to drying efficiency. It becomes so much better in the drying department. I think the trick is the drain hose should be lower than the machine, not higher. In washing mode this does not matter. But in drying mode the machine dries better maybe because it drains the water out more quickly because the hose is lower than the machine. It so happened that my area has a floor drain so I just lay the hose flat on the ground and drain he goes.
THere is so much disagreement about this machine... yet you might have figured out the problem. It makes sense that different house holds have different drain hose height, and so might have different outcomes.
The reason this works is because it allows the machine to fully drain. If the drain hose is higher, there will be some residual water left in the drum which will force the machine to do more work when drying bc the machine must first evaporate the residual water before it starts to actually dry the clothes.
I just talked to The sales person at my local Lowe’s and she told me which machines got good customer feedback and which ones didn’t she said that the GE two and one got great customer feedback. This is in the Pacific Northwest which is somewhat dry in the summer, but fairly humid in the winter… so somewhere between Arizona and Chicago.
How's your blue fins? Pull out the lint catcher and look right with a bright light. If those fins accumulate too much lint, it'll eventually stop drying as efficiently.
@@gosmond they are good. I have a long skinny soft brush that I use to clean the area once a month and clean the foam filter at the same time. We’ve never had any drying issues.
Mine was great until the 8th month. I think they get build up internally and require disassembly so you can start over and end up tearing it apart again in about 8 more months.
You mentioned it already but Bens Appliances and Junk filter cartridge mod works well. Instead of electrical tape, I've been using clear silicon to seal the gaps around the black foam filter. When it's time to wash the foam filter, the clear silicon usually peels off in 2 or 3 long strands. After each use, I stick a Swiffer Duster with an extendable handle inside the filter compartment then thoroughly vacuum the filter cartridge. I've had my GE since Jan 2024 and still no ragrets.
We got ours from Costco in November of 2023 for under $2000 (including sales tax, delivery, hookup ...). I was experiencing similar issues with the lint build up. I crafted a 1" PVC pipe extension that attaches to my Dyson to clean the lint out and keep a flashlight next to GE Profile. Other than the crazy vacuuming maintenance, the GE Profile has been great. I knew going in that there would be issues -- I also watched Ben's Appliance before purchasing --so, I kept my original washer and dryer. I've only used my original unit twice. I really like your attachment with camera. I think I will make one of those instead. I still leave the door open until it fully dries. I also leave the filter out to let that compartment dry too.
we've had one for months now and haven't had any of these issues. they're barely damp and you really don't even need to shake them out when they're removed. just being in the air drys them out quick. I think it's more than worth the cost
What they need to do is have the Door Automatically Open after the Dry Cycle is Finished. That will let the remaining moisture evaporate instead of settling back on the cloths. Similar to what dishwasher manufactures are doing.
We’ve had one for almost a year and we love it. No problems at all and it is great to put the clothes in and come back in a couple of hours and the clothes are ready, or turn on wrinkles guard and come back after a good nights sleep and your clean clothes are waiting for you.
I've had mine for about a year, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I have no issues with loads drying, as long as you don't overfill the machine. If you are having issues with your combo, check your drain hose as others have suggested. If that appears fine, only fill up the machine up 2/3 of the way and try that out. If there's minimal airflow going around your cloths while drying, you will see poor drying performance. You will also have this problem with a traditional dryer.
We bought a LG dual inverter heat pump dryer, being it is 240v and that part helps. The clothes come out perfectly dry and warm. Was considering this style of setup but didn't want to part ways with our speed queen washer.
I really wished I had seen this video before I purchased this machine. The sales guy at Lowe's was so convincing and made this is out to be the best product ever. I can't do all the maintenance stuff this guy does. I might see if I can return it and get my money back.
We’ve had ours since August 2023 and haven’t experienced any of those issues with the exception of all the lint build up inside the compartment. I vacuum it out about once a month. We would definitely purchase again though. We mostly use quick cycle, but use bulky bedding for comforters and keep the software up to date. My friend has two of them that they use almost daily. He said the one he bought last has drying issues and he has to put it on more dry. I hope you get your issues resolved. Best of luck.
I've had mine since October 20th of last year and I have a zero regrets. It does sound like something is wrong with yours, mine washes and dries almost perfectly each time there's only been a couple of times where one or two items weren't quite dry. This thing feels like the future and I couldn't be happier. Definitely get it looked at as soon as you can.
I agree wtih you. We don't do large loads and drying hasn't been a big issue for most clothes loads, only when putting in far too many towels or bathroom rugs. as for shaking each thing out, he is being very dramatic, I shake each thing exactly one time and it's fine. no need to stand there 30 seconds with each item.
Thank you for your honest review. I was thinking about buying the GE washer dryer but had reservations based on some of the reviews I read. Your review video helped me finally decide that this model isn’t what I want to buy.
I have had mine about 8 mos. No drying issues whatsoever. However, I clean lint filter at each load, including brushing out the lint slot with a long brush. I also have cleaned out the recommended areas when machine suggested as much. I dunno, maybe it is a lack of attention to these or user error. I also did a self clean today. No problems.
Lint filter construction is definitely faulty in this machine. We have had one for four months now and ours works just fine, but that is because I noticed the lint issue after one load and modified the lint filter so that it seals well now. The problem is not the filter itself, but that it doesn't seal to the housing. Lint can get passed the filter frame and clog the heat exchangers. GE needs to redesign the filter assy to fix this problem. I fixed this by adding extra seals to outer perimeter of the filter assy.
@@Kne2450 I used a seal tape with foam that I had from some automotive projects. Traditional window weatherstripping tape with rubber seal doesn't work because it is too thick. You need thin weatherstripping tape preferable with rubber seal.
I have had mine now for 6 months only had that issue in the beginning when I was learning it. I spoke to someone who actually built the machines due to my job at Verizon I get all kinds of people who call in for our services and this gentleman works in the facility that makes them. I told him about my drying issue he educated me on the machine and how it dries. Now that I know that it's not a normal dryer with full heat and it's closer to you air drying your clothes on a very windy day is the words he used. I plan my loads of laundry accordingly this helps dry time as well as keeping the washer/dryer from overloads and not drying at all. The separation of heavy clothes and bedding and towels works best for this machine I learned. And if you leave the door open after it's done for about 15+ mins you don't have to do all the shaking of each piece of laundry. These were my take aways from this washer dryer combo I named him ray lol.
Read all the reviews on the GE combo. Lots of reviews with drying problems. But also lots of reviews with happy owners. Seen TH-cam videos of the bad design of the lint trap. Lint clogging the heat element coils which caused poor drying. One you tuber had his combo for over a year and was happy. He did modify the lint trap door. He lined the outside of the slideout door with weather stripping. This helped keep lint bypassing the trap. We went ahead and made the purchase. Before we used the combo I lined the lint door with recommended weather stripping. I also installed anti hammer valves which softened the water valves from slamming. After 29 loads so far so good. Our clothes come out dry and smells clean. I clean the lint trap after every load. I noticed no lint bypassing the trap door onto the coils. I suggest anyone who owns the GE combo to line the lint trap door with weather stripping. I also recommend to read the manual. There are multiple drying modes. So make sure you pick the right one for your load of wash. Towels and jeans need more heat and time. Also don't over load. It hampers the efficiency of the combo washing and drying process. We are happy so far with the GE combo. Crossing our fingers for longivety. I feel for those having issues. The weather stripping I used is 3/8 wide 3/16 thick. Name brand is "Do it" vinyl foam weatherseal self-stick tape. I wrapped one continuous tape around the trap door. The door will seal tight and will be firm to pull out. This is a double sided tape so it will somewhat stick when pulling out the lint door. I've pulled out my lint trap door many times and the tape stays on. I hope my suggestion will help with your washing experience with the GE combo.
Dryer drum sizes in the US is 7.4 cu/ft. This drum is only 4.8 cu/ft. That makes a big difference. We're too used to stuffing the machine full. You can't do that with these. Whatever size load you used to wash, cut that in half for better drying. You're actually doing more work, not less with these machines.
@makmelaf Your comment applies to the traditional washer as well. Too many Americans love to stuff our average washer sizes and demand PERFECT end results, which magically lift ancient stains burnt in by decades-old dryers🤣😂.
Yeah thanks for the very well edited and extensive review on this washer combo. I was thinking about getting one to save a bit of space but this video completely changed my mind. Rather have a good ol fashioned drier that dries my clothes every time than save a bit of space in the laundry room.
@@Tonyplat98 I have one of these and I have put about 50-60 loads through. I can see where he is coming from on some of these points, but at the same time, I have not had any of the problems to the degree shown. Now obviously the lint build up is going to eventually be an issue for everyone, and I can see that leading to mold or ruining the heat pump system
Sucks you got bad unit. I've been happy with mine. Works great and dries great. Obviously the lint issues are there, but that's minor and mine isn't that bad. One thing I can say is don't mix towels with regular stuff and don't overload it. Mine did come with a scratched door. GE sceduled a visit in a week. Part was on backorder for a few weeks, but had no issues getting it replaced.
I feel ya. I got a washer dryer and I had similar issue with the drying cycle. I should have immediately paid for the ~20% restocking fee and returned my then top of the line machine. Now my washer dryer is essentially a washer. Honestly, your machine is not worth the effort; best to return if that option is still available.
I love mine, I have had it a year…,I try to keep lint area clean, other than that I learned what settings worked best and now my clothes aren’t even damp ….one big one was the spin cycle on high, it made ALL the difference
I've had this machine from the 1st day it was available in June 2023. Not having any of these issues. It requires a change in thinking VS traditional machines. Yes the clothes are dry but people are conditioned to that hot out of the oven dryer feeling which this energy efficient heat pump doesn't do. The lint buildup is something to keep an eye on and it's good to invest in a dryer vent brush to get in there to loosen stuff to be shopvaced out. Great machine and has made doing a load a day a piece of cake.
I knew this was a heat pump before I bought mine and knew about the 99% dry factor. You don't actually have to shake the individual pieces of clothes every time. The remaining smidge of moisture will evaporate on it's own unless you live in a damp area, then good luck to you. We have to do monthly maintenance on ours and know when its time because a single load can take five hours on the more dry setting. We also use plastic dryer balls and renewable/eco detergent sheets instead of liquid detergent. I think those two factors help with the lint build up more than anything else.
We love ours. I clean the lint filter after each load as I would with any dryer. Some lint does get by the filter I keep an eye on it and vacuum it out as needed.
we have ours in my hair salon and def have the drying issue;. I am diligent about cleaning the filter and emptying the water vessel at the bottom every time. It works better now that I do smaller loads on normal, light soil, tap water, high spin, and more dry. But it is not foolproof. Love the combo unit though!
I've been really happy with ours so far. The clothes do feel slightly "damp" when I take them out, but I've found that if I give each item a quick shake as i take them out, they feel pretty normal after that. I think the damp feeling is just from steam that gets caught in the clothes or something.
I just watched another review where the gentleman said there’s an accessory cleaning kit. He cleans his every three months. Family of six. He also talked to the GE engineers and they said Lynch buildup on the fins will give you a slight reduction and efficiency, but is not critical.
You may not be alone with your dryer problems since I have heard other YT videos claim the same thing. That said, we have had one for several months now. I just throw in an unsorted load of work-clothes and have even included a bath towel or two - I know that, at times, I tend to overload a washing machine and I'm sure I have done the same with this one. I clean the filter every time just as we did with the electric dryer. I use the normal setting and hit start - that's it. Others in my family have not changed the amount or type of clothes they wash/dry in this machine. I have not experienced damp/wet clothes. Mine have been dry when I remove them from the machine every time. The only difference I have noticed is that, if I remove the clothes as soon as the load is finished, the clothes are not scorching hot when I pull them out like they are from the electric dryer - but they are just as dry.
As someone who lives in a unit with no 240 connections this could be huge, I’m just going to wait for them to iron out all the kinks like maybe a better filter design. Still putting a heat pump in a dryer is super smart.
wow...I have mine since Nov 2023 (almost 8 months). I do 2-3 loads a week and never have a drying problem, although I never let my clothes get HOT in a dryer; I learned decades ago that clothes shrink, wrinkle, and fall apart if you let them get HOT in the dryer. I empty my lint filter every load, I bought a DeWalt chargeable shop vacuum and keep it right next to my Unit. I also pull my clothes out slightly damp, hang them up, and let the weight of the dampness pull the wrinkles out.
Thank you Ben! We're remolding the laundry room and I was about to pull the trigger on a 2-in-1 condenser dryer. Wow, so much added complication, so much maintenance... to save $200/year? Totally not worth it.
So sorry you had a bad experience. I've had my machine for a year and have never had an issue. I would never go back to a regular washer/dryer. The only modification I would love to see is a better seal around the filter (easily remedied) and maybe a trap door on top to make it easier to clean out the lint area when needed. I love mine!
The way the garment bunch together is from the wash cycle, so no matter how long it tumbles in the drying cycle, heat would not evenly distribute and the sensor only detects the moisture on the surface of that "ball of clothes". One thing my mother taught me about laundry is to shake them out while you're throwing them into the dryer, you'll use less energy and time to dry the same amount of clothes. This type of machines just can't separate/fluff things up for drying with the amount of clothes you're misled to believe they can handle each load.
Gotcha, thanks for sharing. It's a lot of extra work, but maybe next load that doesn't dry well, I'll try pulling out, spreading apart, then reloading and running dry cycle again to see if it helps
@@AuthenTech That's unfortunate and negates the main appeal for purchasing an all-in-one machine. We purchased a new Samsung machine with moisture sensor too within the last year, this feature doesn't seem as "smart" as they want you to believe. If the clothes were little damp, pressing "more dry" often would run the machine for a few minutes then stop. To save the trouble, I only do time dry now.
That is how I was taught to do laundry and it greatly reduced my ironing times as I tend to go from dryer to hanger with my laundry. I owned the GE for a month before switching to the LG. Both still leave my clothes a little wrinkled but I am happy with my decision to go with the LG. The lint cleaning is not as much of a chore as it was with the GE.
I have this machine (LOVE it) and it does tumble them around a little before it fully goes to the dry cycle. In the 3 months I've owned this I've not had the problems he's having. I do think something is wrong and needs to be looked at with his.
Sort of defeats the purpose of this machine which the main selling point is: put clothes in wash, then dry without any intervention. If you have to take the clothes out and speperate them before drying you may as well have seperate machines.
Anyone that’s having an issue with the machine on drying. Not suggesting to do this, but I did run the machine on wash only. And a humongous amount of lint came straight out. I wish they made it so that you can just pull the side off of the machine to clean that big long tube out because you are 100% right on there is a mass amount of flint that gets stuck down in that tube.
always select maximum spin speed possible, it extracts more water from clothes and saves time during dry. Normal cycle is for smaller loads. For towels, blankets, bedding and big items I'd choose a bulky cycle
We have had ours for about 8 months. It worked great until about a month ago. It won’t dry the clothes after about six or seven timed dry, more dry cycle they are still wet. Nothing is working. Somehow we just get lucky and it will finally dry. Service men have been here twice. This last time they are ordering a humidity sensor. Hope this works!
I had this problem and had repairman out three times to fix my washer and dryer so that it would dry come to find out the filter that you pull out and wipe the lint off of with the charcoal filter behind it needs to be washed in super hot water to remove the build up of your softener it's really really simple and it worked miracles my clothes my washer is working like usual so pull that out take the charcoal filter out remove the lint and run your filter not the charcoal one the other one under really hot hot water and you'll see the softener coming out in your sink let it dry completely put the charcoal filter back in and put it back in your washer and dryer and voila it works like a charm
The slightly damp feeling is normal for newrly all heat-pump based dryers, it really is how they work. Some ar evetter, than others of course. That said, the biggest difference is how bign thr load is. Based on how tangled everything looked, your filling the washer too full. A full wash load is fine, if you have a separate dryer or something. Otherwise you need to cut back on the load size.
Lol, for that price it's definitely not worth it. Thank goodness for reviews and TH-cam, no need to spend money on something that's not worth that much
I can do full loads of jeans and full loads of towels and I've never had a drying issue. Not even with a full king size velvet bedset. Not sure why you're having issues.
We have a unit, and I bought one for my daughter, no complaints except cleaning of lint, but otherwise works great, uses half the electricity of a electric washer and dryer.
I bought a Midea heat pump dryer. I think that the heat pump fins need to be cleared out regularly. The Midea heat pump dryer has its fins easily accessible at the bottom and facing towards me, so i can take a brush vacuum and clear the lint. The fins also have its own second lint filter screen that blocks a lot of dust from approaching the cooling fins. I don't know how you're supposed to vacuum the fins on this unit with a brush vacuum when they're tucked into the lint filter pocket.
Great review. I was skeptical of your title as I have a unit and being single, haven't used it as much as your family, but found your experience very helpful and will keep the filter squeeky clean. Mine has dried well and I haven't had to use the more dry option. Thanks!
Best honest review. A lot of other reviews are more like a tutorial. You really got down to the flaws. I was thinking of getting one, but after this video, you saved me the headaches.
That's unfortunate... I bought one in July 2023 for $2200 didn't get that stand I just bought a set of rubber isolation pucks off scamazon for $30 works great, till this day thank God I've had no problem with it, only one load I did came out damp BUT that was my fault, there was too much thick water absorbing cloths in it towels and thick hoodies and I didn't click the more dry button but ever since that it's been solid, I love this thing.
I recently bought a condenser ventless dryer. Once a month it says to remove and rinse out the coils, which sure enough a tiny amount of lint bypasses the lint trap and starts some build up on them. It seems like these 2 in 1 could use a similiar feature, built in.
As an appliance specialist I'd like remind everyone that doing laundry is a simple pocess (from an appliance perspective) that manufacturers have decided (for financial gain not unlike smart phone makers) to turn into gadgets desinged to illicit the gee wezz response we see above. Reliability has plummeted. Repair specialists (my son in law included) often find repairing expensive (good luck when your "limited "one year warranty expires) not worth fixing resulting in in replacement thereby starting the cycle again. Question. Do you really care if your washer is in "Brushed Black or Graphic Steel" finishs? Finally, as with all large capacity washers, there's the temptation is to "over load" the unit leading to poorer performance and earlier failure. To much more to list but I hope you get the idea.
We purchased our combo unit 11/2023 but it never really dried our clothes. Finally we couldn't take it anymore and called GE. GE sent out a service tech and diagnosed a bad heat pump. Heat pump replaced but still not working. We are now scheduled for another heat pump. Dealing with GE has been a terrible experience, and very stressful.
You absolutely have to clean the lint screen every load. To be fair, a regular dryer will also require you to clean the lint screen every load as well. You probably should have service out before the end of the warranty period as well. Ask that they take apart the sealed system area and clear the area of lint that you can't get to that may be clogging the condensate drain... which can also affect your dry time.
You also have to check the bottom drain for cogs especially If you have animals it is super easy and machine is back to being amazing....it also told us of the issue
I stop between wash/dry fairly often and pull out some delicate, then dry the rest of the load. The loads are dryer after it spins than your “wet” load looks after the dry cycle. I wonder if it’s not the dryer you are having problems with as much as the spin.
I'm curious if your wet loads were mixed clothing types? Jeans and towels in with shirts and light weight fabrics. Also my understanding (still researching before buying) is that if you leave the clothes in the washer long after it's finished the humidity rises in the tub and the clothes get damp again.
I bought one for my wife for Christmas. It was delivered November 18/23. And broke down December 31/23. And is still broken down. They have sent two different repair companies so far.
Put the lint filter in a stream of water in the sink. If it holds water it needs cleaned with something like Dawn. Fabric softener leaves a clear blockage that looks clean to the naked eye.
Unless you're in a 90% or higher humidity environment, the surface dampness will clear itself up in a couple of minutes. My loads are bone dry by the time I lug the basket up the stairs to my bedroom to fold.
Looks like it's quite a common problem on heat pump dryers. This is why a lot of heat pump dryers have doors on the front to allow you to clean the cooling and heating fins out. As well as having an extra filter just before the fins. The first version of my Hotpoint tumble dryer didn't have the extra cleaning penal. But they now have a massive panel that comes out allowing unrestricted access to the cooling and heating fins for cleaning.
It has some nice ideas, but it still needs some work to figure out the drying issues, especially the lint problems. You will find that lint gets into the coils inside the unit, thus preventing the drying cycle from drying altogether. This seems to be the major issue with the filter unit itself. Lint will get past the filter ever so slightly, especially if you have pets. Thus, being caught in the drying coils inside just passed the filter itself. This is more than likely your issue. No matter how well you clean the filter cartage, it will build up over time, causing drying issues.
I just bought this about a week ago and I have yet to experience wet clothes. Sure they come out feeling damp, but like the manual says after a quick shake they are dry. I think it's a little unfair to say that you shouldnt have to do this with an expensive machine, because you have to remember that this is completely different technology than the old fashioned dryer. Can't be bothered to do that, then the 2 in 1 technology is not for you. However, I am a little concerned about the lint buildup. I admit that the filter seems designed poorly, because I'm already seeing some loose lint around the coils and I cannot build a custom vacuum complete with a 360 camera
You must be using fabric softener and not cleaning the fine mesh of the screen filter. That’s what causes that you must clean the fine mesh with Dawn dish soap every time you to clean the filter.
I would recommend pods, do not use liquid detergent. I had similar issues with my Maytag front load washer. Also consider using cold water as well give it a try, I’m confident you will get better results. I have completely taped off my liquid trays and it has helped so much on my washer. Thanks for the professional video, nice job and extremely informative. I am debating on all in one but great you you tubers are pioneering this new age for you are extremely appreciated.
Man I'm glad I watched this video. I was looking at machine today as the dryer at my house we rent out broke down again. I was looking at this companies used section and the had one of these in there. Asked the lady why this brand new GE Profile was sitting with all the other used machines and she said it needed repairs because it fell off the truck from up high. She said it's not drying properly. She said once they fix it they'll probably list it for $899. Which of course got my attention because I seen the one on the New show room floor at $2800. Thanks to this video I won't be buying the GE Profile.
Had mine close to a year and will be having to get warranty work for the second time when it works it does good but it has to work. Mine will simply just stop working. Last time it had a mother board problem. Also lint gets past the filter and it's a pain keeping the coils clean.
So my washer dryer combo machine was working fine until I washed a wool mattress enclosed cover and now it doesn't dry anything. I think all the wool clogged the machine and I can't figure out how to clean it. Your video helped with cleaning it. I will have to try vacuuming it and brushing the lint out. But I feel like there must be a lot of wool stuck somewhere I can't see.
Thanks for the honest review. Even if a person does not own one of those - it's very obvious to any rational human being that it has a flawed design which lets a lot of lint to bypass the filter. Something that also happens on almost every natural gas-powered dryer, but is not a major issue for them because most of it gets blown out of exhaust vent to the outside of the house (we had LG natural gas-powered dryer for over 15 years now, I have never had to clean anything except removable filter and there is no lint accumulation in any exhaust duct parts which I have thoroughly checked last year). Some better heat pump dryer manufacturers (some European companies as well as LG) at least add evaporator coil washing system where the dryer cascades water over the front area of evaporator coil to wash some of the lint away, but unfortunately GE was too lazy to add it to this machine... Maybe in next version they will.
That's why with the same amount of money or less , just purchase a Speed Queen. Yes their individual units but they will wash and dry 10 times faster than any store bought garbage and last YEARS.
The max watts for heater on a 120v outlet is 1500w. The second I heard a clothes dryer could run off a 120v my first thought was "that won't dry clothes", my second thought was "that might dry clothes in 3 hours".
We have had ours for 6 months and the motherboard and accelerometer are faulty. Fortunately, we are having them replaced within one week. We love the machine but when it doesn’t dry at all, that’s a problem. My recommendation is to have a technician look at it asap.
Pinned comment for future updates:
-Feb 2024: after maintaining a very strict lint cleaning protocol, the machine is doing a sufficient job of drying our clothes.
It's almost like you didn't know you were buying a heat pump lol
What is your cleaning lint protocol??
I have had this washing machine since July 2023 and in the first days the clothes did not wash or dry well but it was because we did not know how to adjust the settings, once we understood how it works we have not had any problems. I'm glad I bought it.
Before watching this video. Let me just say. I absolutely love this machine. Its the best appliance in my home. No problems whatsoever. Just need constant filter cleaning and you are good
👏👏👏👍👍👍...( GE appliances ...❤...)
its a hideous design, idk how you like it
nah Ge appliances are ug ly@@BrunoFerreira-sf6gr
its amazing! My clothes are softer, smell better, are way cleaner. Stuff that was dingy white turned bright white after using this washer! There are very specific things that need be done and having the water drain exactly 7 inches down makes huge difference on how clothes dry A+++++ for my family after 6 months
@@myager007 Is it exactly 7" or not more than 7"?
Wow ! we have the total opposite experience. We purchased ours in November of 2023 and it’s been great. We paid 2000.00 from Lowe’s. We do use the extra dry option and it dries really well. I do vacuum out the inside of the filter assembly system monthly because the filter that comes with it sucks! Hope your experience gets better.
I've had one for 6 months and have had none of these issues. It's by far the best laundry appliance I've ever had.
It looked like he was overloading it on the video. I bet if he went down to the recommended weights for loads it would be better.
I agree. Great product.
Tidbit of info, if you slide a small rug under the unit in between the four legs, it will reduce motor noise by approximately 25%
I agree. Best washer/dryer I’ve owned.
I will be happy to admit if/when there is
@@ryqarst4690I wonder if it would make sense to run the discharge through some kind of filter.
@AuthenTech I’d definitely try adjusting this. Read this comment and not sure if you’ve seen it.
11 months since I bought mine and it has problems. I don't think this machine should be giving so much problems this early
More loads equal more electricity use, negating much of the savings of having a 120V heat pump dryer.
Yep this is how my mom did laundry growing up.
Thanks to GE washing and drying machines, we have a lot of work. I'm telling you this as a repair technician.
Thank you for your service. I have both and they are right up there with the worst appliance I've ever purchased. = /
@@denisefreund1391 How many times did it take for you get a new one? I have service tech coming today to fix the heat pump issue.
@@MysticPheonix369 It’s 3 times in Pennsylvania for anything. Three times as long as the first time (only the first) is within the warranty (for all those that are out of warranty now).
he is cleaning the filter (obviously) and more by vacuuming out the entire unit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you're having any issue with drying. Just use the more dry setting. Also make sure the lint filter is cleaned every time. No problems. Keep it updated also through phone app. I don't know why he had an issue but i had mine for 6 months. Works n drys perfect
Dude clearly has a broken one or is using eco dry. If it didn’t work like this the reviews would be massively 1 star
@@HomeGuySolutionsModification of lint filter void the warranty?
@@Kne2450 It’s all 100% removable.
Look at what customers are going through with the lint issue getting worse after every
Load washed.
I got mine for $1900 on sale, I've had no drying issues, and love it. I've had it for about 8 months.
@AuthenTech any comment on this?
There's a learning curve for these types of machines. Not overfilling, them like any washing machine, and putting clothes that are of similar weight will help your drying time.
We have an LG washtower with heatpump for 6 months now and so far it cleans and drys rock solid (clothes come out nice dry and 'toasty' warm)
I miss that toasty hot 😆
Problem is that expensive heat pump is only warrantied 1 year. The GE is 5. Also the GE is designed to lift out as one unit.

I have the GE combo too and I’ve had it since November last year and I’ve had no issues the only thing I did was I added the more dry and after that my clothes came out completely dry
And yes sometimes the lint will get pass the filter but what dryer doesn’t
I would definitely have someone take a look at it because that is definitely strange if it’s not drying at all and you did deep clean the lint trap area so I think they’re just might be something malfunctioning
Love your videos and hopefully you can get your combo fixed and hopefully you have a much better experience
Normal dryers aren't connected to the water drain, so that's a problem if lots of lint is passing through.
Gotcha, thanks for sharing your tips
you always need to clean dyer filters after every load, this isn't something new!
We’ve had ours for over 7 months now, and all I can say is we haven’t experienced anything like what you describe. Hope it gets better for you.
@@sjf1232Where did you find the brush?
Where did you find the brush?! @@sjf1232
The point is, you shouldn't need to be doing all this when buying a new unit in today's knowledge and technology!
Yes, maintenance is the key. Anything less is like buying a car and refusing to do oil changes because of "technology".
Too fussy. I can't believe the hoops people jump through to convince themselves and others that they made a good purchase.
had our 6 months, never had an issue with any of this.... our still works great. ive cleaned the blue coils a few times and kept them clear.
we've had one for months now and haven't had any of these issues. they're barely damp and you really don't even need to shake them out when they're removed. just being in the air drys them out quick. I think it's more than worth the cost
What they need to do is have the Door Automatically Open after the Dry Cycle is Finished. That will let the remaining moisture evaporate instead of settling back on the cloths. Similar to what dishwasher manufactures are doing.
@@HomeGuySolutions I think the new Samsung combo washer/dryer has the door open feature at the end of the cycle.
@@bluearcherx Yep. Same experience. 😊
Ive had mine since june of 23. Paid 1800 and have not had any issues. Great machine in my opinion.
I have 2 of these side by side for over 6 months. My clothes are always dry in both. Never an issue.
What did you use to seal?
Thought the same you cant over load these machines
The lent filters need to be emptied every single time. What so are about that?😅
Sucks you got bad unit.
Thank you so much! I'm sorry your family had to run through the wall and have this terrible experience. You definitely saved us a colossal headache!
I feel ya. I got a washer dryer and I had similar issue with the drying cycle. I should have immediately paid for the ~20% restocking fee and returned my then top of the line machine. Now my washer dryer is essentially a washer. Honestly, your machine is not worth the effort; best to return if that option is still available.
we're 5 weeks in and use it almost everyday with out an issue, I wish I saw this feed before we bought it. great clip.
Check to see if you have any fault codes
I love mine, I have had it a year…,I try to keep lint area clean, other than that I learned what settings worked best and now my clothes aren’t even damp ….one big one was the spin cycle on high, it made ALL the difference
I have the exact same experience with this GE Profile washer dryer combo. Doesn’t dry, clothes are damp and wrinkled, lots of lint and maintenance.
We just bought one. My mother has had one for a while no issues. Ours has not worked since day one. Not a single load has dried
We have a unit, and I bought one for my daughter, no complaints except cleaning of lint, but otherwise works great, uses half the electricity of a electric washer and dryer.
probably closer to 1/4 of the electricity of a standard washer dryer
That's great to hear, hope yours keeps working well. Just don't ever forget to clean that lint filter ;)
@@AuthenTech I clean it after every dry cycle.
That's unfortunate
Yeah I'm sorry that you had to deal with that but I've had it for just 2 days and I'm in love with it I have had none of those issues so far
You also have to check the bottom drain for cogs especially
If you have animals it is super easy and machine is back to being amazing....it also told us of the issue
Vinegar will remove the build-up too.
Have one and have absolutely no problems like this. I bought mine for 2000.00 and love it.
You must be using fabric softener and not cleaning the fine mesh of the screen filter. That’s what causes that you must clean the fine mesh with Dawn dish soap every time you to clean the filter.
It does dry differently. It’s a closed system with no exhaust. Keep the filter clean.
When possible, make sure you use the High Spin to extract more water for a better drying experience.
these all in one units require you to change your fabrics away from cottons to quick dry nylon/rayon. (like jogger clothes)
Isn’t there a 2nd generation out is so which version is this?
So my washer dryer combo machine was working fine until I washed a wool mattress enclosed cover and now it doesn't dry anything. I think all the wool clogged the machine and I can't figure out how to clean it. Your video helped with cleaning it. I will have to try vacuuming it and brushing the lint out. But I feel like there must be a lot of wool stuck somewhere I can't see.
Did the longer drying sequence impact your electric bill?
Look at the other comments ....no problems
You can use softener in the softener bulk dispenser for it.
You know you're an adult when things like this excite you
That's why with the same amount of money or less , just purchase a Speed Queen. Yes their individual units but they will wash and dry 10 times faster than any store bought garbage and last YEARS.
Never heard of them before, but they look legit. Old school but effective, I like that
The max watts for heater on a 120v outlet is 1500w. The second I heard a clothes dryer could run off a 120v my first thought was "that won't dry clothes", my second thought was "that might dry clothes in 3 hours".
When I was younger my grandmother actually had a 120 v dryer. Wasn't large, but for a single woman on her own it worked. So, 120v aren't new.
We have had ours for 6 months and the motherboard and accelerometer are faulty. Fortunately, we are having them replaced within one week. We love the machine but when it doesn’t dry at all, that’s a problem. My recommendation is to have a technician look at it asap.
