Damn this is gold! The title does not lie! I now know how to master line weights and printing colors! I'll be checking out model v paper spaces v viewports next.
Ingroup Layer folder you can add layers inside or, you can add New Layer properties inside that makes it better. -NEW Group Filter -( PLAN ) -New Properties Filter -( Annotation ) -Layer name 0 -Layer name 1 -Layer name 2 -New Properties Filter -( MODEL ) -Layer name 0 -Layer name 1 -Layer name 2 and so on.. tried and works great. so like arranging layers in its category wither its ELECTRICAL,MECHANICAL,STRUCTURAL Layers Group.
Very thorough, I'll be watching it again, you/re speaking very quickly. New to CAD, working with Land F/X a LA. My biggest struggle lately is the management of layers. Saving your video.
Been doing CAD a long time. STILL found things I didn't know in this. Great video. Thanks. Toggle Override Highlight. "Turns on or off the background highlighting for layer property overrides. By default, the background highlighting is turned off. Settings. Displays the Layer Settings dialog box, where you can set various display options." (per AutoDesk). Good luck with that. Ha! Have never used that either...I just go to the layer settings directly. Thanks again!
Your explanation is amazing! I really appreciate how you took the time to break it down in a way that's easy to understand. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
In your other videos I like the topic _Layer state in viewports _ xref layering _matching by layers instead of properties which is top notch. _UCS topic also was very well explain. _ xref attachment scale also was good _xref relative path over full path _ line weight overwrite/global width _layer groups _viewport freezing layers. _viewport object ,or polygonal _layer settings "xref payer settings" which is tricky. And good well explained Everything was very easy to understand. Looking forward for more tutorial especially on command that is unfamiliar for some cad user. 💯🤝
Will keep learning and sharing! I am starting a newsletter subscription for civil engineering and autocad/civil3d commands, maybe you will find it useful. substack.com/profile/160681272-civil-tech-source?
i was going to a job like this with a complex drawing exactly like yours , somewhere was some control point , and i did-nnt know how to tell autocad ( show me only control points ) was 5 points from nails , cu global coordinates
Yes, there are few ways. I personally use the -insert command and insert an empty drawing that has my layers set up. There are other ways to do it, one is using the Design centre.
It is easier to explain while showing rather than speaking, will try again in a different video. But basically CTB controls the printing settings meaning it can control how thick a line is based on the color it has, so if you have a global width of 0.5 and its color Yellow and the CTB settings says that any lines color Yellow will be printed in thickness 2 then it will be printed as 2.
hi there. Very informative. I have a question for you. We you solid hatch, i now that you can change the shade density when viewing it on the screen, but how do you transfer that to look the same when you plot the drawing? Thank you
Can you please help what is the specifications of your system I am using Autocad 2018 and it's slow on core i9 2.4ghz rtx4060 and SSD 500 GB and ram 16
Hi my pc is an old spec, see below: Intel Core i7 6700K Processor Ram 32GB DDR4 2400mhz GTX1050ti but swapped to RTX3050 now. It appears your i9 2.4ghz might be the issue. 2.4ghz is low maybe go for something higher like 4ghz?
Thanks for the video. Do you know if there is any way to give to a layer a specific draw order in the drawing? Example. I would like that some layers with hatches would always be in the back wile other layers with furniture would always be in the front. Tx
Not sure about all the objects I one layer can be send to back. But I know you can type a command that would do this for you docs.autodesk.com/ACD/2011/ENU/filesACR/WS1a9193826455f5ffa23ce210c4a30acaf-4fa9.htm
Maybe you can post it in autodesk suggestions forum. Maybe we will see it in the future. The other way I can think of is lisp, so if you have always the same layers that need to go to the back then you can create a lisp to do this (isolate the layer you want select all, then send to back).
I am having trouble seeing my layer properties manager. I have a mac and when I type layers, i dont see my properties manager, i only see the layers + properties tabs and cannot add or delete layers. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP
Hi, dear, I have a very complex drawing with a hundred layers that I don't know its name, can we make layer groups from a used layer in the current drawing by selection? thanks forever
Oh that is the properties panel, just type properties on the command line and when you select a polyline you can see it. I also docked and hit hide the properties panel. So it will appear only when I hover my mouse to the right
It's just the channel names. I just have them. Company usually do them so when they send autocad drawings to someone else they can mark up that these layers were produced by the company
Hi Joe, thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately audio engineering is not my strong suit. If you know anyone who can help me out, please do send him my way. Thank you.

Glad you found the explanation clear and useful!
Very good tutorial.
Fast pace explanation that make viewers focus on listening and the topic explained perfectly 💯
Thank you! Happy to hear this. I did have feedback in the past that I might be talking tiny bit too fast 😅

Glad you found it informative! More to tutorials on the way.

Will add it to the list of videos to make.
thanks a lot sir, a great deed for me during cad lesson.

Great video, is there an easy way to import a whole layer listing from another drawing?
Yes, there are few ways. I personally use the -insert command and insert an empty drawing that has my layers set up. There are other ways to do it, one is using the Design centre.
@10:45 did you understand what yourself said?
I got so confused when you talked about ctb and global width.
It is easier to explain while showing rather than speaking, will try again in a different video. We you solid hatch, i now that you can change the shade density when viewing it on the screen, but how do you transfer that to look the same when you plot the drawing?
Thank you
Do you mean the transparency? If so when you print there is the checkbox ✅ plot transparency. Hope this helps
Excellent video thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Do you have tutorials for "Sheet Set Manager"
thank you very useful
Glad to hear that!
Thank you❤️❤️❤️
You are so welcome.
The info is good, but the speed of your instructions need to be slowed down. Hard to follow because you speak to fast.

You can try filter layers but that means the naming of the layers need to be right
please how did you reach for the global width of the line??
Hi Lines do not have global width, only polylines
at time 10:41
Oh that is the properties panel, just type properties on the command line and when you select a polyline you can see it. I also docked and hit hide the properties panel. So it will appear only when I hover my mouse to the right
Thanks - when I isolate in 2023 it does not hide everything else, but greys everything else out.
