    Thank you for the video! If I wanted to rotate the survey and Architectural Plan in a way that they are not set up to true north as that will fit the layout better do I do anything differently? Do I set them up to True North first (they are both x-refs) and rotate after that? But then if I get the updated Arch plan it will not upload in the right place..

    • @CivilTechSource
      @CivilTechSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Katarzyna, that's is an excellent question! I would advise to setup everything correctly to true North. Once you have overlaid architectural and survey to true North, you can run the UCS command to suit best your layout. Then you can use again the UCS command to Name it and save it as a new option. Then type Plan and select current plan. This will align everything to suit. And when you go to paperspace and double click in the viewport depending on your ucs, use the plan command again to match accordingly. I found this way to be the most efficient as I can always switch between my true North and the new saved rotation. So before I xref a new drawing I do UCS world command and then xref. Its tiny bit tricky to explain it in writing, therefore will be making a video about it in the next few days, to help you out! Thanks for the support.

    • @katkuc3627
      @katkuc3627 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Civil Tech Thank you! Source I was also wondering about text orientation after the UCS is switched. Is it possible to keep it always horizontal in the layout if we are rotating the plan?

    • @CivilTechSource
      @CivilTechSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can once you switch the ucs to the one that matches the layout, when you click on the text you will notice the rotation will no longer be zero. If you switch it back to zero it should be horizontal.

    I understood almost everything about xref (thanks to you) but I am still stuck on basics. I drafted a floor plan on cad (with different layers for walls, windows, etc.) and I want to use xref for them correctly. can you please explain how do I save the drawings with different things (walls, windows, etc.) and then later use the xref? also, the "specify point" while using the xref. the elements never fit perfectly on each other.

    • @CivilTechSource
      @CivilTechSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kalyani, if you want to separate the elements (Walls, windows etc) into there own drawings, then I would suggest to select them in your current drawing right click->Clipoard->Copy then create a new drawing and right click->clipboard->Paste to Original coordinates (This way your elements will be brought to the exact location you have copied them initially). Then save it Xref-Window (for example) and then delete them from your original drawing. Afterwards use the Xref command and leave the specify point at 0,0,0 as you have already placed you elements (Walls, windows etc) in the right position so there is no need to change your specify point. I hope this helps.

    I am working as an intern, Architect gave me the plan let's call it A1 to work on Now I have added a couple of xrefs and changed a few things. Later on, He made some changes to File A1 and sent it back to me with the updated name A2. Now, how can I have those updates on my A1 file without losing my works or restarting from the scratch on A2?

    • @CivilTechSource
      @CivilTechSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Naruto (Big fan of the series), there are few ways you can do this. 1) Copy paste the changes into your A1 drawing, the thing is that I am not clear the A1 is the drawing you have done the changes right?and the architect gave you the amended A1(A2) so why don't you just continue working on A2 and xref stuff on that file and SS A1?

      Not sure, if you have deleted the original CAD file with all the Xrefs or you have saved it as in different location. So if you have deleted the autocad file, you can recover the latest by opening the *.bak file in CAD. Now, if you have moved the cad file to somewhere else and have broken the source link, then I would suggest opening the original file and saving it as to your desired location. I hope this will help somehow.

    simple thing: how do I quickly toggle an Xref ON / OFF?!? cant find a practical way

    • @CivilTechSource
      @CivilTechSource  ปีที่แล้ว

      Either put an xref on its own layer and turn it off or on, or the official way is to unload the xref via the xref panel or I think via right click unload xref

    Why we need to bind and insert ? What is the use??.plz reply ...thanku sir

    • @CivilTechSource
      @CivilTechSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Bind and insert they both do the same thing. The bring in your xref into your main dwg drawing as a block. So let's say you want send it to your friend, if you send just the main dwg file, the xref will not appear cz the link got broken but if you bind or insert it will insert the xref into your main dwg as a block and wherever the main file goes the blocks goes with it. Now the difference between bind and insert: Bind will insert the xref drawing name in front of the actual layer names of your xref where insert will not do that. Hope this helps

    • @iftekharkhan8879
      @iftekharkhan8879 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CivilTechSource ok so only the xref command will not work for attaching ..we have to bind or attach after that for properly working .
      And one query is that we have to bind or insert every xref into main drawing??suppose we have 5 x ref drawing in our main drawing so we need to bind everyone ??...thanku sir

    • @CivilTechSource
      @CivilTechSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, once you xref you create a link between your main drawing and the xref drawing you don't need to do anything else. You only need to bind/attach them if for some reason you need your xref drawing to be in the main drawing. So basically once you use the xref you are good to go, you won't need to do anything more. If you want to send your main drawing out to a client and want to show the xrefs just you the etransmit command. So bind and insert are only used for special occasions were you need your xref drawing to be in the main drawing without copy pasting let's put it this way.
