Very good for Annotative but the architecs use scales in fractions of an inch like 1/4, etc. If you do a second video you can add locks to the viewports in layout so the zoom does not affect if you click inside. Thanks for the great lesson

Well done as always. That said, the only way you can move a dimension in one of your three viewports and not have it move in the other two is because you placed dimensions in model space under those anno scales. So, in essence, you have dimensioned your plan using three different scales for dimensions. I understand this is for the demonstration of annotative scaling and you have done well doing that.

Thanks Michael, and yes adding more details would simply confuse the new users who have no idea about the annotative property so it's mentioned in a more "digestible" way.

@@sourcecad Good Sir, THANK YOU for replying to such and old video! I do think I hold the record for the number of times watching this video! Love it! AND, I was totally incorrect in what I said earlier! At first, I didn't have the correct settings in my dimension style. Now, I have just what you have in the video and everything works very well! I learn a great deal from you. Heck, I'm even beginning to pick up your dialect! LOL!
And when you are entirely bored with helping hundreds of people with AutoCad and need a break, I sure would appreciate if you can tell me why I seem to not have that cute little annotative icon about my hovering cursor any longer! I had back in the day, but it sailed for the Seven Seas now and has no doubt forgotten where its home is! I run the ancient 2012 version, but , it still gives me hours of pleasure.
Thank you for all you have done to increase that pleasure, Sir.
      Michael

@@michaelrichardson4003 I am really glad Michael that this video is helping you and I loved the part about picking up the dialect :)
About your question, though it's impossible to accurately tell what is causing the annotation icon to not show up, I guess you are using the default dimension style rather than the annotation one. Even though the annotation style is in the list if it's not set to "Current style" it won't work. Change the current dimension style to "annotative" in the dimension style manager and see if it works.

@@sourcecad THANK YOU!!!! I will try that! Again, much appreciation for your time, Sir!

@@sourcecad I did try your suggestion. No little icon. Then, it hit me.....I am so old that I probably THINK I had that little cursor back then when in fact, I never had it at all! LOL!
Anyway, I'll be using your annotative dimensions from now on with everything I draw. I will then always know my dimensions are annotative.
I DO appreciate your videos. You are to the point and lead us into learning new things.
In closing, I will say THANK YOU once again and "......So, with that, let's get started!" LOL!!!

Hello, thank you for the vids, I have learned a ton from you !! One question. When I display my dimensions, I want to see a fraction with a dash separating the inches and fraction. For example ten and 5/8 inches currently displays as 10 5/8. I want it to display as 10-5/8 (dash separating). What setting is this ? It's driving me crazy ! Thank you again !!

Hi - I've been thinking. Would it not be a good idea if one has quite a few sheets to work on in the same project, to make a template that not only includes the Title block but also the dimensions or would that not work?

Hello, could I ask why AutoCAD insists on including "(inches as selected in dimension properties) alongside a degree measurement IE 15°".
Any help sorting this would be appreciated, thank you.

Is there a way so that the length of the leader line on each side of the annotation also adjust to size? For example, make them always one inch on paper even when the scale change?

It's better not to use annotative
Go to layouts ... use yr suitable scale
Then create dimensions of yr size wirh scale
N with diff layouts create diff dimensions layouts of diff scale
      Like for beams 1:25 n slabs 1:50
N even if yr scale changes u will just edit scale
N they look uninform... like not top big in drawing model or small
Unlike I'm video above ... its cumbersome

@1:11 "So if when you see the Dimension is 15 foot 5 inch, then the dimension from point to point is actually 15.5", NOPE, WOW, Swing and a Huge Miss! That's not how the conversion works guy. It wouldn't be 15.5 INCH, it would be 15.4167 FEET. Way to screw people up man.
