    As an former army mechanic most everything you described isn't from high mileage. That's all from local short trips. They do have again computer. Under driver dash with harness flat facing up on drivers fender under hood. And a common failure for glow plug system

    Repaint is normal on these if anything I would choose one of them, it means the vehicle was inspected a lot, meaning good maintenance and whomever it was assign to took pride wanted to make sure it looked good. I personally remember a lot of plp doing so in my unit.

      Technically you're not supposed to repaint them with anything other than CARC paint, but more than a few motor sergeants have tasked privates to make the line look good for the VIP's visit with a few cans of Krylon Camo...

    Things have changed. California & Florida ARE now pulling on road titles from people (2022) . Once a On Road rig changes hand it gets the on Road changed to Off road only. They are NOT issuing on road titles. Not sure about other states. Do your due dillagence on G503 or Steel soldiers. I have 5 rigs from GP that I have legally put on the road with clean titles and registration. The most obvious sign of wear is the brake and has pedals.

    Hi there! I'm from St. Charles County here in MO!!! Great job on your videos, very informative and easy to understand. I have a few questions, do you happen to know anything about LMTV? I want to buy one and build it as an Overlanding vehicle. While researching, I came across your channel and you interested me in Humvees. Therefore I did some digging and noticed there are some boxes you can add to the back of the Humvee, what do you know about it? are they easy to install? Do you have a mechanic or know someone that could come with me to inspect any of the vehicles I am interested in buying? I'll pay for it the help (Within the MO area). And last but not least, is there any other way I can get in touch with you? I would like to pick in your brain regarding Military vehicles...thanks

    humvees do not always start on the first crank especially when its cold out the engines are no different than civilian engines i was a mechanic in the marines, it all depends on how cold it is and how old and beat up the truck is

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate your expertise, I guess I should rephrase that honestly, MY humvee and my FRIEND's always started on the first crank even in very cold weather (when everything was working properly). When I had bad glow plugs for instance starting was tough in the cold.

    • @MegaChevy25
      @MegaChevy25 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kevin24Seven if they have been well maintained or fixed up they most likely will crank over first try but its not always a guarantee especially when buying surplus, honestly they are most like a typical diesel pickup and the engine at least the one in the older ones is basically a 350 modified to run on diesel. I had a lot when I was in that took up to 15-20 seconds of cranking before they would kick over. theses things get used and abused. they are treated worse than rental cars. and they are designed to break in a way that a simple part swap will fix them. I would recommend honestly doing an engine swap and dropping a Cummins or Duramax in them with the matching trans so they will be a bit more reliable and fuel efficient with the ability to drive at highway speeds with out the thing sounding like its going to explode. aside from the engine and trans in these things they are figuratively bullet proof when it comes to their capabilities

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MegaChevy25 I agree 100%, the only major weak point of the platform from my own personal experience is the motor. Not that it's super unreliable but rather just unbelievably slow and noisy. Once I blow this one up I will put a Cummins in it but we are talking several hundreds of hours of work for that so I'm gonna just enjoy the 6.5 for now lol.

    • @channell11
      @channell11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason for this is likely due to single fuel policies. Most Humvees, like other diesel engine vehicles in the military are run on JP8, which is an aviation fuel. While convenient, it has a lower lubricity than diesel fuel. The DOD has commissioned studies that indicate that the use of aviation fuels in compression engines results in premature wear and deterioration of the engine and fuel system components. When I was overseas the big failure point on those was injection pumps. The lack of lubrication combined with the intense heat meant they went south in a hurry. Didn't have to replace that many engines though-a little blowby and the engine will still run fine for a long time.
