    A few things I noticed in your assessment like someone mentioned that price is for seat covers not actual seats. The issue is that there is a lot that needs to be addressed when you get an auction HMMWV. All fluids changed, hub service, belts, hoses, etc is the basics. Then after that you could be looking at repairs like brakes, start box, glow plugs, heater core, fan clutch, time delay module, Cadillac valve, etc. This is assuming the engine and transmission is all good to go. A smart box, glow plugs, controller is north of $1k. This is assuming you are capable and comfortable with doing all these service and possible repairs that should and may need to be done. I bought a clean nice example 1988 M998 and even with that I have over $15k in parts and repairs to get it what I consider road worthy and nice condition. Keep in mind, mine is now an excellent example to the point of it could go in any military museum. My point is that I would budget around $15k on top of what your final auction price is if you want a nice HMMWV when you get done. This is not including if you are doing hard top, slantback, turrets, X-doors, etc. A nice set of X-Doors alone can run around $4k to $5k.

    Nice breakdown. Gives you a good idea how to budget for plus a bit more for seats to go with those covers.

    Let me preface all of this by saying I was in the Army for 21 years and spent a considerable amount of time as a front passenger. Some GovPlanet vehicles are in rather decent shape and need very little work. Others have had a very rough life. So there are other big ticket items that a poor soul like one us might need. Geared hubs, transfer, engine, exhaust, brake rotors, calipers & pads (e-brake set up too). Ball joints & tie rods, and center links with idler arm and pitman arms don’t last too long. Brake booster / power steering boosters, fuel injector pumps, and items like that can also be unexpected expenses. But don’t fret; anyone can work through any issues that surface. I just bought a M998 & a M1097R1 from GP and hope to pick them up this week!

      How did your purchases turn out? Did you have many problems that needed to be fixed? Also, I’m looking at buying one myself. If I were to get one with low miles do you think I would still be likely to have those problems you mentioned?

    • @jeffheld3971

      The 998 isn’t worth more than a parts donor. The 1097 needed batteries, a starter, fan clutch assembly, and some other small ticket items to start it up. It needs a right rear fender panel replacement but the 998 will be the donor. I’ve got one inner geared hub seal leak to fix but that’s no problem. I found an excellent used hood since some knucklehead thought the parking light mounting area would be a nice “tree stop”. I’ve acquired replacement seat cushions and a hi-back bucket for the passengers front and snagged a battery box cover reinforcement kit to mount
      the hi-back seat to. I’ve got hibacks for both rear seats and a “like new” crew area canvas cover. I have several new tan 4 man crew cargo area covers and 4 like new tan doors. I paid $6K for the 1097 and 4000 for the 998.

    This was the perfect video at just the right time! I should be getting my 02 M1097 this week. I have watched a lot of your videos and got some really good info. Thanks! I've also seen a lot of dakotas, he has some really good info also. My truck was set up as a 2 door troop Carrier. It's coming out of Capac Michigan. I ended up winning the auction at $8,400. The EUC clearance only took about a week. Looks like Gov planet offers the full title service now for $199. I was looking at getting a 4 door soft top canopy kit with doors, seats, back seat trays, and mirrors from Midwest Military Equipment. Have you had any experience with them? Also what would a rough cost be for all the supplies to do a paint job yourself? Thanks again!

      Thanks for the compliments! Dakota is a long distance friend of mine so glad you enjoyed his channel as well! Midwest Military is very close to where I live, and I've worked with them a good deal. I can't say they've been perfect on everything and admittedly I did have some fitment issues on some of their custom parts. That unfortunately seems to be the case on most all aftermarket Humvee parts though in my experience. Regarding the paint job, I would budget maybe $1500 depending on what you want to do. I reccomend Monstaliner since it can be done outside and is pretty hard to mess up. In my own experience any two stage paint is hard to get right and even single stage can be tricky. You will need a large air compressor, moisture filtration, a high quality gun, etc. Monstaliner only requires rollers and it goes on nice.

      @Kevin24Seven Sorry for such a late reply on my end. I just happened to see this. It's hard managing a channel with the amount of comments I get. I didn't see this one or wasn't notified of it. Anyway thanks again! I really appreciate it! Still waiting on my sf97 to process. I'll definitely be looking into that other paint you're talking about.

    I'm inquiring about a solid truck for driving around town and to haul some home improvement items.
    My budget cannot afford a Ford Raptor.

    You really need to get new tires. My tires were like new on both of my trucks but I had a blowout on one tire from dry rot and I have one tire that’s not far behind. New fluids is a few hundred also. Nice video!

      How much are tires for military 16.5 wheel?

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrdato116 They're hard to find in that size, thats why a lot of folks go to a different wheel. That being said if you are going to keep the factory size (37s) its not going to be cheap.

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  ปีที่แล้ว

      On my Humvee mine held up good. I think a lot of it depends on age. If they recently had an IROAN service its more likely you will be ok (fluids will often be new as well). However if the date codes are super old and your Humvee looks a bit worse for wear on the maintenance side you might be in for a fun day lol.

    • @cainsworld1958

      CSM or Feltz you can get new tires for 235.00 or 75.00 for 75% tread. I might be a little bit off. You can get tires and wheels mounted from CSM for around 275.00 each

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its a mix, a lot is just normal GM parts but they also have a good bit of unique parts that will need to be bought off eBay usually from military parts resellers.

    How about Shipping Costs? I had to pay $1600 shipping from Kansas City, MO to Atlanta, GA. When I bought my M998 they wouldn't let you just come and pick it up and drive it home.

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is certainly something to consider. I called the base mine was stored on and they acted as if I could just pick it up so long as I scheduled a time to do so, and I've seen a few other vids of people having them loaded onto trailers, but it probably differs depending on where yours is located.

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They aren't great for towing. Max is about 4500lbs according to the military manuals. Honestly I think you could get away with a lot more than that but your major limitation will be power. I'd guess they could probably do up to 8000lbs with a turbo and the right hitch setup.
