Got mine a few months back, it's amazing. Saw it on scuba Chris's channel and wanted to try it. Glad to see you using one now. Just need a new braid on mine now
I just ordered one of these just because of your great review. I know if you fish with it you are going to stress test it. Thank You for the suggestion!
This reel is a beast ! ! It cast nice and its super smooth when reeling , think stradic but on steroids. This reel beat all the other surf reels, tried them all
Crazy reel. Looks like it meets all the requirement. Perfect for reds and will handle that 7 foot shark. Almost too good to be true. Many people really like Okuma products and are happy customers.
Nearly all our UK carp reels have been the same and think you will find this is a real old reel as not they have a carbon reel now built out of carbon has some of the best geara you can put in a reel and for 200 dollars you won't believe how good better than 800 dollar shimanos
Hi sr I am starting in the surfcasting fisching in USA, I saw videos from Europe and I think there is not the same products, what you recommend to me, this okuma and maybe the offshore angler 12 foot rod? The Europeans has a very different s reels
I put the bike in the arsenal 2 months ago. It went on 6 fishing trips. In one of them I got a 30 kg shad!!! After a fight of about 20 minutes, with crazy brakes, the beast was brought to its knees and I brought it, it was weighed and released. I believe that another bike in the series would not withstand such fights with continuous brakes. It is the strongest I have put my hands on a mechanism surf casting for 32 years that I have been fishing! Considering that I have been fishing for the last 6 years and heavy casting, with Penn spinfisher and slammer mechanisms, and I believe Okuma could stand next to them worthy. I just ordered the second one.
I just put just shy of 300 yards of power pro on my 8k at 40 lbs with a little bit of backing , you got a different spool that holds 700 yards of 50 lbs braid.
I got one of these when it just came out. Its a beast. Just curious to see what distance you get compared to your other long distance reel. Think you missed the short turn drag.....from drag set at 10 lbs, a half turn will lock the drag.....
You seen the new one out all carbon construction reel it's a daiwa and shimano slayer only 8 grams heavier than shimano mags and they are around 700 the new okuma is 200 its unreal brother I have the trio rex okuma thought that could never ne out done made from all aluminium but they have something very special with the new reel
Hey man u seem to know ur stuff. Im trying to put together an outfit for halibut surf fishing in alaska. Up here from shore hablibut are typically 5-100 lbs and most people throw 6-8 oz of lead and half or whole herring. Most people use 12-15 foot ugly sticks and the biggest cheapest spin reel they can find. Im liking this reel but what would u recommend for a combo. Much love from kenai alaska
Mine is on a aluminum reel seat and it’s got 40 lb max drag 😮but the frame post the goes in the reel seat will bend when max out and will start wobbling while reeling in a big fish. It was good at first but then started to poop out I think if it didn’t have so much drag power and be too heavy it would be better reel. But just my opinion love your video bro.
You get wobbling because the reel seat on your rod have been stretched so it doent hold the reel right don't buy cheap rods I have a carbon reel seat on my rod and made from 1k carbon its 10ft rod 3.5lb test curve packs down to 44inch best rods around you Americans are missing out on these rods
Been using this reel for about 2 years and its really beast at work but if the fish is huge it will wobble while fighting/reeling in but price is very friendly for our pocket heheh.
@@reezustheone721For the price I find it very affordable and worth the wobble. I bought 2 diff models with diff handle (black- wood handle and silver- plastic handle). 1 with 30lb braided and the other with 50lb braided. I used on a 14 and 15 feet rods and casting distance is awesome. When the fish bites the drag just screams. I also have a shimano activecast 1120 and price is almost similar to Okuma Surfcast 8k and that reel is almost on par with okuma but without the wobble so you might want to consider that if your budget is similar to the Okuma Surf 8K. If you are willing to spend more get the Shimano Bullseye 9120. Cost 3 times as much as Okuma Surf 8k here but it is a beast and you have no wobbles :-)
I read on a couple of online forums there quite a bit of spool/body flex on retrieval of fish >20lbs? What's been your experience? Otherwise looks like a low cost winner.
I've caught quite a bit of fish over 40lbs with it. There's some wobble, but it has never affected the performance. I mean for a reel that's $110, that's nothing to really complain about anyways. Penn conflict 2 long cast wobbles, and all the sub $350 shimano long spool reels wobble as well. I had a spinfisher long cast as well, it corroded and it slightly wobbled.
That's why they have just brought out the replacement for this made from carbon fibre better than any reel cost up to 500 I have the trio rex far better than the 8k and the new one is just better than anything on the marker
@@TJXHT It does cast pretty far but not that much farther to justify the extra weight. I wouldn't recommend it if you're using lures because it would get cumbersome due to it's weight and size. If you are just casting out live bait, sticking it in the surf rod holder and chilling out waiting for a bite then it's fine.
Hmmmm … “King of Budget reels” seriously? What have you compared it against? Have you done a reel breakdown on it? Without it, what you’ve done is no different than any other individual who gets a manufacturer user marketing agreement. Sorry buddy, not buying it.

I'm gonna buy one As well
BEACH BOMBER !!! 🤙🏾 I'm Snowed in here in Utah ... Can't wait till my vacation in June!!!
Can’t wait till you review the Flite 12k and the AX II 14k. Keep catching
Dope I love your review gee
I bought a Spheros 6000 based on your recommendation, now I have to get this Okuma reel too! It sounds amazing!
You will definitely increase your casting distance with this reel.
NICE WORK MATE VERY WELL DONE 👍
40 lb of drag and 4:7 gear ratio is certainly a big game setting.

thoughts on this compared to the Penn Battle III? wondering if Penn's 30 lb max drag isn't enough
Thank you

Apparently in late af to the party 🤣
If this reel had a light weight 6k version baby it would make a mad stick baiting setup 👍.
I Love Fishing, From Indonesia 🎣
My guy people are sleeping on okuma reels. I had the choice of any reel I wanted and I got the okuma makaira spinning reel and I absolutely love it.

I bought this thing and a few years ago. Still haven’t had the chance to use it.
Does this reel flex at all? The rockaway 6000 has so much flex to it even just reeling it in to re-bait.
Thanks!
What type of braid are you using on the 8k? Brand wise?
That's my next reel. I neeed a more sealed reel.
This reel has been able to withstand a bunch of saltwater splashing
@BeachBomberFishing you seen the new reel from okuma made from carbon fibre as light as the 800 quid daiwa
How many pound test line you have on it?
What lb test did you spool it with ??
What specs were the longitude you had on this at first
About to order one on Amazon
How you add a shim to the reel so the braid will be layed evenly on the spool ?
What rod would you recommend this with?
What brand and pound of braid do you use?
What lb braid do you use on this reel?

I probably use max around 15lbs of drag, no way I'm gonna put 40lbs of drag.
@@BeachBomberFishing yup but I know you crank down to pull your 8-10 oz out of sand

I intend to buy 8 of this reels for me and my brother.
Thanks alot!

What size rod do you suggest with the 8k? Casting jigs not bait...
What really 10ft 3.5lb would do I can cast mine 120 yards with 2.5oz lead
Do u know the line capacity
Thanks for the video
How does it compare to the Penn Conflict II?
Better in my opinion. I have a conflict 2, it was way too wobbly and felt weak.

I’m going with the Okuma surf 8k paired with a breakaway GDX

While reeling in a big fish you will feel the spool wobble depending on the size of the fish@@qneshqt6002
for the price of it why not, the shimano activecast 1120 is also another not so bad entry level reel@@reezustheone721

I have a 11 ft ocean master rod I’m trying to get a reel for, which okuma would you recommend? Going to Port A this month and fishing the surf
Get this one, it would pair nicely
Just got in the surf 8k! Seems very solid, about to spool it up with 50lb braid. Fishing trip starts tomorrow!💪🏽 gonna be in Port A

4 m to 5m .
Bin look'n for an affordable spinning reel to replace my salt Abu Garcia/Mitchell spinner... yes, it's the Original

I bought this in an impulse buy. Overkill for my use, fishing for flounders and stripers of the surf. But the thing is a tank.

Answer is in the video
Lotta wobble when under heavy load
One reel gift me😊
I have the trio rex far better than the 8k and the new carbon reel they just bought out is a shimao and daiwa killer
