- I thought it was time to revisit the mix I did 11 years ago (still on this channel) with this new version having the drums and bass in the center and an acapella intro. I think it results in a more refined version. This is one of THE iconic pop songs of all time. It still feels fresh almost 60 years after it was recorded. I hope you enjoy this new video and mix!

You blew me away 6 seconds into this.... Just incredible....
Thank you, Eddie!
@@themotownboy1please make 8D version audio!
At a time when the Beatles and the stones ruled the music world, petula sure held her place. Great songs, fabulous voice, many memories
𝑭𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄!!
I'm amazed at her appearance. She chose a look that is timeless.
Petula Clark was, is and will always be cool. I had the immense pleasure of seeing her in concert not all that long ago, and when she sang this song she would sing "You can always go..." and ask the audience, "Where?", and we would sing, "Downtown"! What a treat. 🙂
When we speak of the British Invasion, we usually think of Male groups and artists, we forget the women, I loved Petula Clark, and this was one of my favorites, man what good music from the 60's, thank you for this wonderful tribute to a wonderful artist🥰
Yes, Dusty Springfield,Lulu!
The Voice
I used to sing this when I was 4.
I never forgot it. Living 40 miles up river from NYC, my dad was one of the “Mad Men” back then
This song brings back many memories.
brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a kid, I first listened to this song on a MONO 45 RPM single. My child head would have exploded with this version! I appreciate you not superimposing the Classic Hits music video to let her face shine. While Petula Clark's vocal clearly stands on its own, her eyes in the video outshines even your great cityscape captures. Though your 50th had an international feel, this redo went up a couple of notches in both audio and video! Thank you for sharing your creativity with the world!!
Beautiful!
Just brilliant
Great remix and making a great song even better…
What a great extended version of this song. I love it.
I miss Petula Clark! The sixties... What a decade!
I just miss the '60's
Wonderful black and white filming!
You do beautiful work motownboy.
How often do we experience a re-mix that does as much justice to the original as what themotownboy has done here? I'm simply blown away.
This version is excellent 😊 !
Yes

Classic
OH MY Goodness superb
❤ WHAT A GREAT VERSION OF THIS TIMELESS PHENOMENAL song sung by Britain's finest female vocalist Petula Clark.
I will always prefer the original 1965 studio version however there is always room for a re-working on the classics and wow!!!!
You have done an extraordinary and totally brilliant job on this masterpiece of Sixties pop.
Petula Clark was the standout arrtist of the Sixties, recording hit records in Britain,France, Italian and German, appearing on Las Vagas and Broadway, starring in films with movie giants Fred Astaire and Peter O'Toole.
Having FIFTEEN consecutive hits in the United States of America top hundred and starring in her own weekly television shows and recording specials for American television.
Petula Clark,Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent were the best trio to ever come out of the Sixties.
Well done once again.
I LOVE IT.
And I LOVE Petula Clark too.
MAGNIFICENT! 🤩
Wonderful 😊👏👏
Pet Clark....Fab, Hip & Trendy always. I know because 'Gordon the Gopher' used to tell me 👍😃
klasse gemacht, klasse Lied
This is glorious! I have been a Petula Clark fan since the age of 12. I was in London last year and saw her perform live on the West End stage in Mary Poppins as the Bird Woman. The day I was there was Petula’s 90th birthday! There was a huge onstage celebration during the curtain calls.
Thank you for this gorgeous looking and sounding remix of one of the greatest pop songs ever!!
That must have been an amazing experience!
One of my favorite songs and now even better!
Really amazed by the mix, especially the video quality. First class.
Excellent mix of then and now 👍
You can't beat this, and really, you can't beat the 1960s. Obviously better times.
Not for Blacks, Women or Gays. For White men? Yes.
Wow ! Incredible - Thanks for 5 mins of pure nostalgia and a great Song.
Petula

Tout est parfait!
Wow, Wow, Wow, love it what a treasure!
I was there when the 12" Downtown '88 was the hit of the dance floors.
I remember that version as well. I still have the 12".
Excellent production
Best among the best !
Sometimes in this life you have to agree totally with the statement that "somethings are just meant to be."
I believe that Petula Clark was destined to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time when she teamed up with Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent.
Petula was THE NUMBER ONE Mega-Star in France when it was considered the time was right for Petula to start recording again in English.
And exactly the right person came along who would turn Petula into a Worldwide MEGASTAR.
Tony Hatch had some music he had written but had yet to put lyrics to.
He played it to Petula whilst she was making tea in the Kitchen.
Tony began to play the music on the piano.
Petula came bursting in with such enthusiasm saying. "I love it put words to it as good as the muic and I'II record it.
Well Tony did just that.
The lyrics were every bit as good as the music.
They were sublime and stupendous as well as brilliant.
Petula recorded it and in the United Kingdom it got to Number Two in the charts.
However the Americans had heard it and immediately fell in love with the song.
Petula was asked to appear om the Top American television show hosted by Ed Sullivan.
Petula boarded a plane that took her to her destiny as from this moment on her life was going to change completely beyound reconnection.
No sooner had the plane landed than it was time to be driven to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Although the show went out live for Petula there was no time for any sort of rehearsals.
Petula started singing "Downtown" still really bemused by the flight.
However as ALWAYS Petula put on a totally awesome performance and the American public(,in their excellent taste)fell hook line and sinker for Petula.
"Downtown" was a Smash-Hit Number One on the Billboard Hot One Hundred and
Petula had a record FIFTHTEEN consetative records in the United States of America after "Downtown's" hugh success.
Petula has played some of the top venues in Las Vagas and on Broadway and the West End in London United Kingdom.
Petula's Mother learnt her how to sing for which I/we. are eternally grateful.
yesss
Gracias
Absolutely pure joy! We are simply not worthy of your talent...
So very well done.🤘👏👏🥰🥰..a beautiful tribute to a real legend. 💞🎼🎼💕✨
...very nice update giving this posting a very contemporary feel/sound/imagery. The sound is so clear, Petula's image fits as today, as though she were 30 in 2023, even though from 50+ years past). Great job. Very entertaining.
Incredible extended version ! Good job, themotownboy1 !
Again, it's a remix I didn't know I needed - thank you!
(One of my Mom's favorite songs, btw)
This most excellent version is like a Quantum ImageFESTation for me! I absolutely love it. Your first one was brilliant, but this one is off the charts on another, shall I say... well fabulous just fabulous. Makes me so happy, the music the editing, just all of it. BRAVO!
Beautiful version! Thanks 💃🕺
Fantastic! Even more soulful than the Original! Greets from Austria!
Best version ever made !
LOVE IT!!!!LOVE IT!!!!LOVE IT!!!!
What a truly remarkable rework -ing of a MEGA -AWESOME Chart Classic.
"Downtown" is the song that went on to be Petula's signiture song and deservely so.
From the first second to the last it as every single thing that a outstanding and brilliant song needs in abundance.
Petula's Perfect Vocals,Tony's impeccable lyrics,a instrumental break trumpet masterclass and a mesmerising drum beat.all in one masterpiece of musical magic.
It really is one absolutely perfect record.
Reaching #2 in the United Kingdom and #1 in The American Hot One Hundred this is just one of many, many, MANY perfect gems that the lady with the golden vocal chords has recorded.
Hits thst followed were of equal quality such as "Don't Sleep In The Subway Darlin'" "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" "A Sign Of The Times" "The Other Man's Grass Is Always Greener" "Colour (USA:Color)My World" "Who Am I" in fact FIFTEEN concetative top hits in the USA.
They all helped Petula to become a Worldwide MEGASTAR with sell-out Concerts, award winning records, Petula's own television series and Specials and a career enhaning Film and Musical Theatre showcase which gave Petula even more reave reviews.
"Downtown" won Petula a Grammy (one of two in her incredible career ) and also was put into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
It just couldn't have happened to a nicer lady.
Good
Love it, thank you for making this version
This is sheer brilliance -- both the audio mix and the accompanying visuals. I discovered this after our January 23 post about "Downtown" reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (in 1965) where it held for two weeks. Keep up the great work!
From my youf....love it !!!
As a HUGE Petula fan, I never really liked Downtown, until now. That was brilliant. Thank you.
Superb as usual brother. Pure pop too lift you up,! I'm sure Jackie & Tony would be ecstatic over this remix. I visited their home when they lived here in Sydney during the late 80s and saw their home studio - it was to die for! A memory I will cherish.
Wow, what a wonderful experience to meet them! I have loved Tony's work with Petula, Jackie, and others. I also love Jackie's covers of some obscure Motown songs. Thank you for sharing the story!
@@themotownboy1 You're welcome. As a huge record collector all my life, the first thing I looked at was their record collection. It was quite 'bizarre' to see most of them contained songs written by them. Makes sense I guess, but it was a surreal experience. Also wanted to say that having Petula's isolated vocals shows once again that singers of that period were pitch perfect (mostly), no auto tune there! 😉 I would love to see you tackle a Shirley Bassey track perhaps ??
TMB, you do OUTSTANDING work with 60’s hits!! Well done once again!!
I was 6 years old when this song 🎶 was popular and I remember it so well. This mix is incredible and haunting. Love the instrumental breaks and adds to the extension it deserves. Seriously speaking, it gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes, thinking of a time when life was simpler and not the crazy it is now. Thanks so much for sharing, it’s truly beautiful 🤩
Merci beaucoup pour cette version ❤
BRILLIANT ... You-Can-Be 'My'-ARRANGER So-To-Speak!!!??? >(*U^)< *Wink*
The mix and the visuals are epic! What a spectacular combination you've created.
Wow 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏, I love ❤️ it, this remix of this TIMELESS MASTERPIECE by the LEGENDARY PIONEER and all the above, MISS PETULA CLARK , thanks 🙏 for posting it 👏👏👏🙏❤️🇨🇺🇺🇸
Yes 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Often remixed means ruined. Not this one. Great job, love it.
Exquisite remix and sound quality. Kudos!
Bellissima canzone! Ricorda anche la 4 stagione di Lost....
3 season
Magnifica Petula Clarck , essa música é um classico dos Anos 60's.
Parabéns Themotownboy1 .
TAMO JUNTO !
Really nice work on the mix and arrangement. I plan to do a rock version of Downtown and I might use your extended arrangement as a guide.
