      My observation across the whole YT is that is so much easier to get content subscribers when you do car content, especially when you do so called supercar lifestyle selling dreams. Motorbike is so much tougher, again easier if you’re in America, there’s a few with 500K 2.5M subscribers. @imKay is the example where motorbike lifestyle bling bling sort of thing, and being in US gets him massive subscriptions. We have @44teeth in uk which is doing great, but just imagine if they were in US. Of course, if you did the same content in America, you would be at 500K easy.
      I can also observe that many TH-camrs doing all sorts of things to monetise their community reach. All sorts of lotteries and deals. I don’t know, but let’s just imagine is all your subscribers contributed a £1, just £1. Or 10% of the subscribers doing £10. I would be first to do it. Honestly.
      Knowing you, you would probably say no, but why not? Personally, I don’t want you to sell H2 because she’s part of the channel. Everyone in here wants to se her from time to time. You know…
      I would be more than happy to join telegram, discord, live show, whatever. I’ve seen power of community doing magic things many times. Perhaps this is the time to test it. I would love to see your channel to grow and carry on. I can understand that some YT viewers prefer to see dreams being sold with models riding latest and sexiest motorbikes, but this channel is something I can assimilate with. I’m pushing late 40’s now, and it was actually the last 10 years I could fulfil my motorbike collection that I always wanted. Still a few I would like to own, but it’s different for me that it was when I was 13.
      My take is that you bring certain group of people who aren’t interested in bs. Just down to earth passion driven stuff.
      So if you ask community what to do? I would say, try to use the power of community, I would be the first to participate.

      I think you have to put passion to one side and look at this like a business. Motorcycles are a niche item not like cars. Realistically could you amass 9 million subs just for bikes. I don't think so. Your big sponsors want big exposure and I don't think you can get that with a niche channel albeit a good one. Only you know your monthly payment needs and you have to be honest and say could I make the same and a little more with YT and sponsors. Don't forget Google looks after itself first and foremost.

    • @Yii00T
      @Yii00T 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think looking at FastlaneD's channel. He's went from mad low subs while I've been a sub and he's now over half a million subs. I watch alot of channel's and I definitely think you could do it.
      We live once and I think you should take a year out on a sabbatical or something over the summer as unlike the Americans we ate very limited to weather. But if you got some sort of adventure bike that could be used through the winter.
      Go ahead try and keep a lifeline for sure and have a look at others channel's like fastlane etc.
      That's it the attitude 17:17 get it done. The H2 is amazing but it's not doing anything for the channel as it sits.

    The flavour of your channel to date is for me it’s appeal, I wouldn’t regard it as “plodding along”; your personality and having Greg alongside is perfect, no need in my opinion to bring in any celebrities, their absence and the fact that your not an ‘Effluentcer” is refreshing.

      Couldn't agree more - one of the reasons Chopsy is the only motorcycle channel I watch all videos from without fail is because of the way they are presented - light hearted, fun, knowledgeable (expert even) not taken too seriously but also not descending into childish rubbish...in short a true pro. Please don't go down the guest presenters route (other than Greg obvs) just give us more of the same.....and yes chop in the job or you'll always wonder "what if" (best decision I ever made personally).....good luck with getting the sponsors, I know how tough that is.....

    You seem to be assuming that your viewers want something 'better' from you. Perhaps in reality they like your productions just the way they are! When you look at the competition, (some of whom are slightly bland) the difference you bring is your personality. I don't think it has anything to do with the type of cameras you use etc etc

    Hi Chopsie! Your channel is one of the best going, because it’s informative without pushing brands. It’s like being on a bike run with your mates, and just talking. You have to think about your own security first, family, pension, (as you get up there in years, lol). I think you plus Greg, and with Mossy as a guest, would be great. He would have that affable element. Keep up the good work! 🏍️🏍️🇮🇪🇮🇪🐕🐕

    I'd stay at your current day job, but if possible reduce your working days by one day or two days a week to allow you to keep a well paid job going. Then with the extra time, put it in to your channel, and as the channel picks up, reduce more time at your day job until you can swap to full time on the channel, if that makes sense?
    As much as the H2 is my dream bike and every part of me says dont sell it, if i was in your position, i would sell the H2 and use that money for the channel to do new and exciting things, trips, purchases.

      Exactly what I was about to suggest, cut working days. With three long days a week that would remove the risk and retain a bread and butter income.
      Having guests on the channel would be nice but with too many regular celebrities the cost could outweigh the benefits and loose the channel’s personality.

    • @RevZolution
      @RevZolution 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @PatBloomfield definitely! Having guests will be good but, we watch the channel for you not for mossy, 44t lads, James hillier etc. Greg is family so I'm sure I'm safe in saying your fans don't mind him. But having a celeb channel, not sure this would be a good way forward. 🤔

    Frankly at 53 I wouldn’t go all in. The chance of success is there but it’s not like there aren’t already plenty of channels doing pretty much all the same things. Most of the ideas you mentioned have already been done to death by 44teeth. I guess in the end you’d be turning your passion into a job. Is that what you want? If you are keen to do it you need to be very clear how your channel is differentiated from all the others.

    • @marleyman101
      @marleyman101 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes pension contributions are important at that sort of age! (They are important all the time) but taking time off now is tricky, even big channels like 44teeth don’t get that many views and are funded not really by TH-cam

  • @mrcintheuk4641
    @mrcintheuk4641 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +33

    Sounds like you've got a pretty good set up already. I really don't think the quality needs to be improved and being too slick can turn people off. Doing things you like is not a business decision. What video gives the most views and therefore I presume the most income? I imagine sponsors are looking at views as well as do you fit their product.
    From experience I suggest that at your age I wouldn't give up a well paid day job unless you have good contacts (it's who you know, not what you know) that you can rely on later, but if you can adjust your days/hours that may scratch your current itch and may give a better indication of what's possible to make a more informed decision. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @darren4220
    @darren4220 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    The eye opener to me was the recent video tmf did on his earnings from TH-cam. I would sit down and do a 10yr income forecast on what your current job pays you plus TH-cam income versus income over the same period just from TH-cam. Other factors to consider are your pension (which I assume you are getting through work), sickness (what if you got injured or ill), paid leave etc. Personally I would maybe see if you could drop 1 day a week at work to focus on this channel as this spreads your risk. Your channel is already one of the best out there and is growing steadily as a result. Also consider that all motorcycle channels are a niche market and discounting itchy boots / fortnine I don't see many getting over 200k in subscribers.
    You definitely aren't plodding along and a bike channel is always going to need a mix of regular bike reviews etc to keep it ticking over.
    Key thing is to think about what you need to live in say 10yrs once you might retire and what's going to best support you.....
    Life is always a balance between income to live plus enjoyment ✌️

  • @nunyabidness9257
    @nunyabidness9257 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I wouldn’t fret over the quality of your content, it’s great.
    One thing you do better than most channel is that you are a little more identifiable to the average rider-if there is one suggestion I could make, it would be to do more things like the average owner does-modification etc. Not all of us need repetitive coverage of bike launches when others do that well. Not that you don’t, but it’s one way to differentiate yourself.

    Hi John, thanks for the upload and your thoughts for the future of the channel. It's a difficult one as like most of us, you need to work and pay the bills. Regarding content, I think what you do is great as you provide a different mix than others I subscribe to and doesn't need to drastically change, just keep evolving the way you have, trying new things as and when you can. As for going full time tubing, that's a tough one to call. I'm risk averse too and should have taken possibly one of three chances I had in the early 90s, they could have lead to a very lucrative career in the motorcycle industry. My problem was lack of confidence in myself. I'm transitioning my career at nearly 59 and have just started working 3 days in my job and 3 in my own business. If your work will allow you to do similar, it will give you the opportunity to test the water without burning your current bridge. I wish you well and will keep watching regardless. All the best going forward 👍

    Love what you do and what the channel brings.
    Whilst channels that predominantly do solo stuff, can be interesting (e.g. bike reviews), what your channel has made a USP for, are the collaborative tests. Made me realise that the in-isolation reviews, where you hear how big the brake disks are, degrees of rake, flat plane cranks etc. means sweet FA for most of us - to take any insight from that stuff, you need to know the specs from the old bike, and you or the reviewer, needed to of recently ridden the old bike. Then you have some chance of listening to the spec and having the foggiest what that translates to riding it.
    Then you started do it differently. Yourself and Gregorio then Mossy, out to do side-side tests of two direct competitors, bike-review actually became engaging. Specificaly because you're good blokes, who know what they're talking about - by that I mean you know what good/bad/ugly feels like to ride, not that you have PhD's in bike engineering. Also, we trust you.
    If you could expand out enough to do full group trests in a similar way, you've just gone to the top of the tree IMHO
    .. key is that you retain your personality, and channel's style over it all.
    With all that said, it would be very easy to say, back yourself, drop everything, and go top-box-deep. If you can afford to do that and have a credible alternate plan, then do it! Personally, I'd take a phased approach, such as dropping to 3 or 4 days a week if you can with current job. If that can't be done, start to explore contract roles. If you've been doing same IT role as a perm for same company for 23yrs, you may be pleasantly surprised what day-rate you'd command. To the point where working 3 days a week will get you a similar take home to where you're currently at.
    Big challenge with either of those approaches, is being clear about your availability, and being able to manage what would inevitably become a headache of spinning plates, if you don't get that structure set from the start. Includes ability to manage yourself to ensure you don't end up in those 12 hour days becoming the norm, 5 or more days a week.
    However you do it, more of the same would be Chop-tastic!
    Roll the [bigger] Intro Chopsy 👍

    For me, your style is just the right mix of relaxed informative banter. Up there with 44teeth and Nevseys content. I watch all for slightly different takes on each bike as it is launched.
    When other ytubers have gone all out with their channels, I have found myself not clicking on their content as often. The pressure, and trying hard to make it work comes through, and is at odds with the escapism of watching a video and playing with the idea of "is that bike for me?"
    As long as expanding doesn't mess with the style, then I should think all of us will happily gobble up more. But as soon as the "I need this to work" vibe comes through, it can spoil the experience.
    Wishing you all the best, my friend. Cheers 🍻

    I like your relaxed style, real world test rides/reviews (bikes we can all afford not just the exotics), stuff you do with Greg and the track test reviews as you are a more than competent track rider. Your production and video quality are always second to none with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure.
    I think you will achieve more of your life goals if you go for it, but only you can decide.
    Best of luck whatever you decide, keep up the great work 👍😎

    Really enjoyed that! My unembellished brainfarts:
    1) I come here for you, not anyone else. I'd not bring anyone else in...
    2) Quality doesn't equal views. When I was at carwow we realised that there's a mediocre level of quality you need to hit and going above that is a waste of time and money (so many people watch on mobile without even turning their phone landscapewards...)
    3) Don't sell yer H2!

    I really enjoy your Channel Chop’s been watching your Channel for a long time now and I never get tired of it. Remember bringing celebrities to your Channel is also giving them more air time and helping them and there pocket. If you have a good job in I T I think its worth hanging on to right now. The I T world moves on so quickly and you take a year out will you be able to pick up where you left off!! There is a saying if it ain’t broken don’t fix it and you channel is bloody great anyway, so think it all through before you give up that good job buddy. Chopsie, I love your channel because you make me feel like your best buddy and you are talking to me. There are many other massive bike channels that make great content, but they are not very 'personal'.
    You won't know if doing more will work, but if you don't do it you won't know. Only you can decide what is best for you.

    Ultimately its your decision on the way forward for your channel, but here is my opinion for what it's worth. I subscribe to a lot of motorcycle channels, but I don't necessarily watch all of their content, but I do watch most of your content because I like your enthusiastic approach, knowledge, presenting style etc etc. I think Greg works great with you, but if I want to watch Mossy or someone else, I can probably find them on another channel. This channel is about you and how you present it and it works for me. I wish you luck on whatever you decide, just be careful turning something that you obviously enjoy into a full time occupation, it may not be as enjoyable then, but if you are not happy in your current job, well that's a different matter and maybe it's the right time to give it a go.
    And one last thing, I'm in my 60's, had a couple of Tuonos until recently, ride out with people in their 70's, know people still riding in their 80's and therefore your a young whippersnapper!

    Chopsy! Thanks for the cracking content you keep putting out! It sounds to me as though you want to do it, but you’re averse to the risk. Which I totally understand. However, by the sounds of what you are saying you would regret it if you didn’t give it the shot it deserves! If you ask me, you’re bound to succeed if you do it! & personally, I think you deserve to give it a massive crack! Behind you all the way big man!

However when BvG bumped into you at the biker cafe on his last video it was great to hear his pleasure at meeting you. You have an engaging personality and have produced great videos. From where I sit you are one of the premier UK bike TH-camrs. If you can make the maths work, go for it.

    I love your youtube vids and Yeah the channel has huge potential, you need to post as many videos as possible , but another good way to up the game in my opinion would be to ride to different food places and have a meal there and review the food and the location with pictures of the food and the name of the restaurant or cafe etc , and also add a bit history of area that your going to , all that added with the bike reviews or good roads your riding on would be an awesome mix of goodies that people would love and you could take friends with you , and when you get to food places or historical location you could do cinematic pictures of bikes and food . Just an idea , there's a guy who does that in America and he has a couple of million subscribers , I know you said your not fond of adding reviews in the mix but I really think that would make the channel blow up in a good way
