This scene is funny. Astro train is my favorite deception. He transforms into two vehicles that I like, a steam engine train and a space shuttle. I also likes the way his voice sounds. I like the name too. It makes me think about the Houston Astros.

Transformers can alter their mass. Megatron can become small enough in his gun form to fit into the hands of another decepticon and Soundwave can become small enough in his recorder form to fit into Spike's pocket, so Astrotrain must get bigger when he transports the decepticons. In the movie, he's big enough in his space shuttle form that the Constructicons can form Devastator inside him.
1:16 It would have been a great opportunity here to introduce a new Decepticon combiner team of trains. It could have kinda been like the Combaticons creation in ''Starscream's Brigade". But instead of having to use the space bridge like Starscream did, Astrotrain could have flown to Cybertron himself to either steal personality components or bring the "soldiers of the Astrotrain Empire" to Vector Sigma to give them life. Hasbro really missed out on selling more toys!

Astrotrain just took random machinery that he had ripped out of a computer and jammed it into the trains' engines to serve as their brains. Is it really any surprise his "Astroforce" was awful when they literally had scrap for brains?
One reason Astrotrain's empire did not last long was lack of support due to the popularity of trains in the United States being relegated to a niche audience. If he established his empire's HQ in Japan, it would have prospered longer due to more widespread popularity.
Astrotrain was the most productive and innovative. Yeah Blitzwing trashed a few Autobots, but eventually you need energon to fuel the cause. That giant maze was a waste of time for the Constructicons, resources and energon. Astrotrain displayed some technical savy, created a train force, and actually acquired energon! This is me now as a grown-up talking. LoL As a 5th grader watching I was all for Blitzwing!! :D
