Two issues later, he beats Megatron to a pulp in single combat, but Megatron holds his own... kind of. By issue 12, he's so weak that Optimus Prime chucks him into a tar pit and rolls away. Much later (issue 38ish?) he ends up dueling Fortress Maximus in space, whom he can apparently match. And so on...
For a guy with a profile of "Cold, logical, and always pursuing his goals with unending dedication", I didn't expect "harrowed butler" as a voice for him.
Starscream would've had a speaking role but it was cut . He would've been voiced by EpicVoiceGuy aka Jon Baily, the same person who voiced Shockwave and Soundwave in the Bumblebee movie .
Sure, the G1 cartoon and the G1 movie had a lot of animation errors, but they were still good to watch. I mean, let's face it: 2D animation is never perfect, but still entertaining.

Granted, he's always been portrayed as a bit aloof and disconnected from his fellow Decepticons, but he was a much more powerful and a bigger player in the comics than he was in the cartoon. He certainly wasn't a loyal servant to Megatron in the comics, like he was written in the cartoon.

Fun niche fact I just recently learned from a fellow commenter: The voice actor for Shockwave based his performance on the character "Sark" from the 1981 movie Tron. Decades later, in the 2005 video game Kingdom Hearts II, the actor for Shockwave was hired to voice the character of Sark. Kinda full circle

I personally relate with shockwave. I have always lived far from my friends growing up, and things like FaceTime were my constant ways of communication with my friend group. So I always related with him being the decepticon who lives apart from the others, alone, and can only video chat his comrades.
Within the story, it was alluded to, but admittedly never outright explained, that both sides were dangerously low on energon and power so they were basically walking/flying/etc around on life support which explained why they suddenly became so vulnerable to even the simplest of attacks...of course, we know in the real world they had to make room for new toys so someone had to go to the bench, so to speak, to make room in the lineup :) As for other inconsistencies throughout the show glorious run , hey man, it was the "magic of the 80's"...

This version of Shockwave was unfortunately written separately from the Shockwave of the comics. The writers of the TV show were unaware of the way Marvel comics had written the character, and so made him into a scientist that was guardian of Cybertron and loyal to Megatron rather than the emotionless and logic driven brute that saw fit to lead the Deceptions himself seen in the comics. Recent versions of the character, such as in IDW comics, Prime, and the Cybertron games have combined both versions of the character by making him an emotionless scientist run by logic who is sometimes loyal to Megatron and sometimes not.
I recall a story where Shockwave's VA said he got the job specifically because they wanted to hire the actor who played Sark from Tron, but got this guy based on his ability to impersonate the actor so well. Shockwave's cartoon interpretation is hands down my favorite because of his mix of passion and zeal for the decepticon cause and Megatron mixed with his straightforward, logical approach to most situations. Also, don't think he's 100% loyal, "Have a safe journey, Megatron..." That scene is way to loaded with implications, especially if you've read the Marvel comics.
Thanks for the work you did here Reaper Roar. It's sometimes painful seeing Shockwave as a lackey. In the original Marvel Comic , this guy was a menacing bad-ass of the first order, an evil Mr. Spock. The Dinobots were created just to stop him.
I'll never forget when i saw the Shockwave toy in the shop when I was about 11, a couple of months or so before Christmas. Thinking, it will be there for when mum can buy it in a few weeks. Only for me to return to that shop some time weeks later and they had all sold out. I was gutted. I never saw it sold anywhere again after that. Or even before that time.
I like to think of Shockwave as the Waluigi of the Decepticons. He may not have as much screentime as Starscream, Soundwave, or Megs himself, but he's part of the family and warrants as much respect as the others except Starscream. The cyclops guarded and waited on Cybertron for 4 million years for Primus' sake.
I love the sequence with Brawn, Wheeljack and Jetfire against Shockwave and the Seekers. Shockwave reminds me of Gandalf when he says, "You cannot get out!"
Shockwave was one of the first transformer figures I can remember getting for my 5th or 6th birthday around 1985.From what I remember it was made of more metal than plastic and from what I see it selling for online(around $3000) I wish I never took it out of the box.
In the deceptacon ranks, soundwave is the 1st one I liked because of his voice and loyalty. Then came shockwave. Finally, Megatron. In the Autobot ranks, Optimus prime, then Omega supreme. Because even though he had been exposed to the sinister reprogramer, ( out if lack of a better word) , he still wasn't changed into a bad guy.
Since Shockwave does appear in the 1986 Transformers movie then that means he is gonna get released for the SS86 line but we may have to wait for quite some time before Hasbro actually starts designing it.

Thanks for the work you did here Reaper Roar. It's sometimes painful seeing Shockwave as a lackey. In the original Marvel Comic , this guy was a menacing bad-ass of the first order, an evil Mr. Spock. The Dinobots were created just to stop him.

I'll never forget when i saw the Shockwave toy in the shop when I was about 11, a couple of months or so before Christmas. Thinking, it will be there for when mum can buy it in a few weeks. Only for me to return to that shop some time weeks later and they had all sold out. I was gutted. I never saw it sold anywhere again after that. Or even before that time.
I like to think of Shockwave as the Waluigi of the Decepticons. He may not have as much screentime as Starscream, Soundwave, or Megs himself, but he's part of the family and warrants as much respect as the others except Starscream. The cyclops guarded and waited on Cybertron for 4 million years for Primus' sake.
Of course it helps that Marvel's G1 comics from around the same time portrayed him with much more screen time and importance.

Shockwave is a worthy successor to Megatron, him or Soundwave
Shockwave was one of the first transformer figures I can remember getting for my 5th or 6th birthday around 1985.From what I remember it was made of more metal than plastic and from what I see it selling for online(around $3000) I wish I never took it out of the box.
In the deceptacon ranks, soundwave is the 1st one I liked because of his voice and loyalty. Then came shockwave. Finally, Megatron. In the Autobot ranks, Optimus prime, then Omega supreme. Because even though he had been exposed to the sinister reprogramer, ( out if lack of a better word) , he still wasn't changed into a bad guy.
My favourite decepticons were Shockwave and Soundwave. They were both cool and seemed powerful.

I love Shockwave’s extended use in The Search For Alpha Trion. It’s one of the few time he got to actually transform and be useful in gun mode.
Since Shockwave does appear in the 1986 Transformers movie then that means he is gonna get released for the SS86 line but we may have to wait for quite some time before Hasbro actually starts designing it.
Let's be honest shockwave and Soundwave were the only loyal decepticons to Megatron.
