You just clarified something for me that I’ve been wondering about for a while - how to easily determine the correct function of the ports on a carburetor. Thank you!
Excellent job of suction and return fuel line. I believe you meant to say 2 cycle engine as opposed to saying 4 cycle. Probably best to describe as small engines chainsaw, edger, blower, hedge trimmer, string trimmer etc. All the best and thank you.
Thank you I had to stop mid repair and got sidetracked. Figured a quick TH-cam tutorial would help. Your video was the third video I came across, and yours was the best. Thank you for your help.
This is a great video. Thanks for making. Don't let the turkeys get you down. In my gas, my back pack leaf blower is at least 10 years since I last used it. The two lines (suction and return) that are outside the fuel tank are both cracked. The portion of the lines that are inside the fuel tank had actually rotted away. The fuel filter was sitting in the bottom of the fuel tank with no lines connected. The owners manual did not identify which line was which. So your video was perfect. Thanks for making it. GREAT STUFF!
This video is badly needed and I am surprised nobody posted it before. I am a half hour away from putting my weedeater in the trash and you may have saved its life. Thanks!
Thanks man. Don't let the negative comments knock u down. Those people only do that to feel better about themselves. That's why they say what they say in a rudly manner.
Thanks, It help me to find the right line to put on what. My old weed eater had been in the shed for a few years and I went to check it out just touched the fuel lines and off they came but I didn't know for sure what went to what but this video help me so thank you!!
I have been looking for this info. Greatly appreciated. Only one recommendation for other video's you might produce. Get to the information quicker. I'm actually having this issue with the precise machine you are working on. It too over 5 minutes to get to the answer. Give the answer, then the explanation. Not trying to 'whack' you, but offering comment as an observation/improvement.
Great video with clear instructions. Keep making your videos. Don't worry about those negative people. There will always be bitter people who can't resist expressing their opinions of negativity (constructive criticism) to anything they interact with in their negative lifestyle. Kinda sad really, that they live with so much negativity that it overflows onto others. Anyways, great video and can't wait for your next one. Take care.
This is great! I've done that to determine suction too. Always good idea to replace primer blub too as it's made of the same materials as line I'm sure.
From about 3:02 until about 4:30 is the information you seek. Give the guy a break. Not everybody has the gift to teach. He still has the knowledge that you seek.
@@DIYOneForAll Haha, interesting is a good word for it. I worked on one recently and couldn't find much info about it online. Definitely want to take a picture before removing things.
THE SUCTION LINE 1. Cover one of the ports on the carburetor with one of your fingers and press the primer bulb. If fuel comes out of the other port, then the port that you covered is the SUCTION line and this is where the suction line should connect that connects to the fuel filter in the gas tank THE RETURN LINE 2. If gas is in the primer bulb and you cover a port on the carburetor and you press the primer bulb and no gas comes out of the other port, then the port that you covered with your finger is the return line and this is where the return line should be connected that goes about an inch deep into the gas tank. This line DOES not connect to the fuel filter. GENERAL WAY TO DETERMINE SUCTION VS RETURN LINE Put some gas in the gas tank. Attach a fuel line to any of the ports on the carburetor and insert it into the gas tank. Press the primer bulb on the carburetor and if you see gas being sucked up into the carburetor, then you have connected the fuel line to the suction port on the carburetor. This is the line that should be inserted all the way down into the gas tank with the fuel filter on it. + If you connect the fuel line to a port on the carburetor and insert it into the gas tank and press the primer bulb and it shows fuel going from the carburetor back into the gas tank through that line, then you connected the fuel line to the return port. I hope this helps with proper routing of fuel lines on a 4-cycle weed eater, blower, trimmer or edger, etc.
Nice video. But, I was advised that the feed/suction line to filter was the thin line and the thicker line was the return line. I have a 1995 32cc craftman. ?
YO I have a Mini Bike almost Running But my Question is Should both Fuel lines Be all the way into the Gas tank submerged in the Gas or Should one of them only be Poking out on the inside of gas tank?
Thanks I have thrown away several gas engines like this. Because I couldn't figure out which line was which. I tried covering the lines one at a time and turned the shaft. Which should work but then I realized. I don't know which direction it turns in. Because rotating clockwise on one trimmer. Gave a different results that the other trimmer did. I pressed the primer bulb but the gas had evaporated. The suction was too low to tell. After 2 weeks I put them on the curb. Now someone else is probably using them and laughing at me. Oh well live and learn but they will laugh at me no more thanks to you.
The line on my Honda weed eater disintegrated that has the fuel filter at the end of it to can I just get tubing for that or do I have to use that kit that costs about $30?
Do U have a Video that Shows how to hook up an Eletric start I have the Eletric started hooked up I dont have No wires Thats what I need help with Basically making it from scrath I get Motors n Mini bikes from junk yards n fix n sell them
What is you have no gas in the primer bulb to begin with--like you just out a new hose and bulb on and don't remember which way it was. The primer bulb is empty. What then?
Okay watched the Video Thanks You said one isnt supposed to be all the way in n the Mini Bike Im trying to start Both lines i put all the way into the gas tank I messed up. Thanks n Hey Bro Screw the Haters If it wasnt for You there Dumbasses wouldnt Know the Information there looking for I like it that you reapet urself because as In working on My shit I dont Miss anythihg ❤
Actually, this example assumes that you took off the tubes to replace or rebuild carb. The primer bulb (return) takes the gas from the suction line and fills up the primer bowl. As you pump the primer bulb, it "suctions" gas from the tank into the bulb. Depressing the bulb attached to the carb should fill up the bulb. And the return will empty the gas from the bulb back to the tank. I guess i got it right. 8-)
I am confused over one aspect of the video and it is whether the fat line goes to the fuel filter (suction) or the thin line goes to the filter. You say the fat line is the suction line and has the filter on it. Intuitively what you say makes sense. I recently purchased a replacement new fuel tank with lines already installed in the tank. The filter was installed on the thin line which went to the bottom of the tank (ie. suction). The thick line was cut about an inch from the tank top (return). In other words, in your case, you use the thick line as the suction line with the filter and the thin line is the return line connected to the primer port; just the opposite from my install. In this Sears video (th-cam.com/video/KB4SQXjDI7E/w-d-xo.html) it is consistent with my installation. My weed trimmer is a Poulan 2 cycle. The difference may be due to you demonstrating on a different machine but logically speaking you would expect the suction or supply line to be larger than the return line. So you video is helpful in identifying which port is suction and which is return but leaves me confused as to whether the fat tube is suction or return and whether the thin tube is suction or return.
Yes, you kept calling it a 4 cycle when i was a 2 cycle
Thank you I had to stop mid repair and got sidetracked. Figured a quick TH-cam tutorial would help. Your video was the third video I came across, and yours was the best. Thank you for your help.
Great job explaining it. A very big help when you inherit a piece of equipment with no documentation. Very useful.
Outstanding video. I was just giving a TroyBilt trimmer with the lines gone. Your video just showed me how to solve this puzzle. Thank you so much.
This is a great video. Thanks for making. Don't let the turkeys get you down. In my gas, my back pack leaf blower is at least 10 years since I last used it. Thank you for clarifying how far the lines extend into the gas tank.
It’s very important to remember this
This video is badly needed and I am surprised nobody posted it before. I am a half hour away from putting my weedeater in the trash and you may have saved its life. Thanks!
Awesome. Machine rescued from an early grave!
Thank you. As soon as you started to explain by pushing the bulb i knew what to do. Perfect explanation thank you
That was a excellent description of where the hoses for the few line go thank you very much
Thanks for the video. I replaced the carb on my weed eater and forgot to mark what was what.

Trumpers😢

This is the answer I needed, and yes you explained very clear. Thank you sir.
thank you. i had my lines mix up. gave me problems with throttle. this fix it. appreciate it.
sorry u get negative comments. Your video was very helpful.
Not "I hope this video helps..." It certainly helped, helps, and will help. Thanks a lot!
Excellent video, well explained and demonstrated. My only comment would be theses engines are 2 cycle not 4 cycle.
This is great! I've done that to determine suction too. Always good idea to replace primer blub too as it's made of the same materials as line I'm sure.
I enjoyed your video. It was well explained . thank you
Omg I looked in my tank and the hose Wes in pieces this helped so much thank you
Excellent and simple to follow. Cheers for the video
I was confused which was which as my filter fell off. Good troubleshooting tip
How to make a 1 minute video into a 6 minute video...
From about 3:02 until about 4:30 is the information you seek. Give the guy a break. Not everybody has the gift to teach. He still has the knowledge that you seek.
Well said bro
99 percent the lines are two different sizes is another way to tell plus yr way you showed is for sure way to tell
You’re a lifesaver thanks 😊
I’m sorry……But, those 5 extra minutes paid Dividends. Thanks for the video. I have subscribed to your channel .
I do this all the time. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever come across the ridiculous 4-cycle trimmers with four, yes four, ports on the carburetor?
I have not come across or owned a 4-line setup. It would be interesting to play with one of those :)
@@DIYOneForAll Haha, interesting is a good word for it. I worked on one recently and couldn't find much info about it online. Definitely want to take a picture before removing things.

I am a firm believer in taking pictures: I do it all the time, especially with taking carburetors apart :)
This was very very Good, Thanks
Great instruction and very helpful video.
THE SUCTION LINE
1. Cover one of the ports on the carburetor with one of your fingers and press the primer bulb. If fuel comes out of the other port, then the port that you covered is the SUCTION line and this is where the suction line should connect that connects to the fuel filter in the gas tank
THE RETURN LINE

and no gas comes out of the other port, then the port that you covered with your finger is the return line and this is where the return line should be connected that goes about an inch deep into the gas tank. This line DOES not connect to the fuel filter.
GENERAL WAY TO DETERMINE SUCTION VS RETURN LINE
Put some gas in the gas tank.

I hope this helps with proper routing of fuel lines on a 4-cycle weed eater, blower, trimmer or edger, etc.

Ffwd to 4:40 for the answer.. you're welcome
thankyou...youz a legend..helped me tremendously...now i know..
Thank you, you just solved a mystery.
Thanks so much, don’t mind the bad comments.
You sir… are the man!!! Thanks
Very helpful. Thank you
This video helps a lot. Thanks.
Thanks, very helpful video.
Here in August 2023
I wonder if the shape of the metal fuel pipes is relevant. One is bent the other straight.
All my lines broke off. Bought new lines did not know how deep to put them and which was which. Thanks
Great video!!!!
Got it thanks
Awesome….Thank you for this…very helpful 💕
yes it helped, everybody else glosses over this most important point
Thanks for video it help me out a lot
YO I have a Mini Bike almost Running But my Question is Should both Fuel lines Be all the way into the Gas tank submerged in the Gas or Should one of them only be Poking out on the inside of gas tank?
Thank you so much. If the hoses are not connected properly, will that cause the engine to become flooded??
Remember this the fuel is pulled thru the carb with vacuum made by pressing the purg ball and fuel return to tank
Thank you man😊
good video and good test for suction line - thx
Thank you...this helped a lot!
Thanks, Perfect instruction

Good video. 👍
Thanks for posting.
It definitely helped me thanks brother
just helped me a lot
Great stuff just what I needed
The line on my Honda weed eater disintegrated that has the fuel filter at the end of it to can I just get tubing for that or do I have to use that kit that costs about $30?
Brilliant thank you 🙏
Is this true for 2 cycle engines as well? Thanks in advance.
Do U have a Video that Shows how to hook up an Eletric start I have the Eletric started hooked up I dont have No wires Thats what I need help with Basically making it from scrath I get Motors n Mini bikes from junk yards n fix n sell them
If the purge bulb is empty with hoses connected dip one at a time into cap of fuel to determine which is suction and return line. and pump the bulb.
Great video thank you so much
Thank you Sir
Thanks man!
It’s pretty simple. If the old carb was priming and running fine before you repaired or replaced the tank it won’t if you hook up the lines backwards.
What is you have no gas in the primer bulb to begin with--like you just out a new hose and bulb on and don't remember which way it was. The primer bulb is empty. What then?
Please show me how to replace pull rope
Much appreciated
Wow mate ya damn good bless ya mate👍

Hi good alternoon how You ok i ask You how much line fuel carb
Have the fuel line and return line swapped, will that cause the carb to flood?
Sir will you please correctly state that it's a 2 and not a 4 cycle motor?
Dude really , 90 % of the people like myself just needed to know which was which. I figured it out without listening to your mono log
you should use term fuel port vs return port
Gracias por ponerlo en Espanol
It would be great if the ports and the fuel lines were labeled. Not many of us know where a line goes just because it has the filter on it.
Thanks
THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
What do you do if there is no gas in the bulb?

Yup, he reversed them but it will work either way…
Why do we need.a return going into the petrol tank...??
Yes it helped me out
Mines just pushes air out and does not suck fuel. The primer bulb is empty and just builds pressure in tank. 🤷🤷🤷☹️☹️☹️
Pump the bulb. Put your finger over the holes
One will suck the other will blow.
My life is too short for this delay.
3:00 starts showing you which one is which
Very good video!!
Good one
