The story behind the hallaca is also very interesting, we made it when we were enslaved by spain on Christmas Day so the leftovers that the spanish would throw away we would take them so with those ingredients the hallaca was born and it’s now a tradition to eat it every Christmas with your family :)

Truly blessed. I have a Dominican friend and our families got together one Christmas and made both Venezuelan and Dominican food and I swear I was in heaven. You're so lucky!

I'm not from Venezuela but from a small island Curaçao🇨🇼. And we also make Hallaca " Ayaka". It' s verry popular during Christmas season. We also have a diffrent version which is the ' Oven Hallaca'. Instead of using the leaf we just put it in ' bowl' and than in the oven.
Eunice Cicilia same Trinidadian here and we call it pastelles but it's legit the exact same i mean it makes sense i mean proximity wise Trinidad is to Venezuela. Pastelles are integral to the Christmas experience

hey, another lil' venezuelan here, really proud of my culture being represented although the thing in my country are not good and even the majority of venezuelan families are not able to afford the hallaca's making or the making of others typical dishes it feels good to know it is still an important part of us and it'll always be, my family is still gathering together to share which is the main thing so as is said in my pueblo "FELIZ NAVIDAD Y FELIZ AÑO NUEVO!!"

this year I haven't been able to eat hallaca, it's too expensive now, but as you unwrapped that hallaca I could almost smell it and taste it, I'm so glad to see some Venezuelan represantation in pero like and I'm even more glad to see you guys enjoy the food that I cherish.. you should try pan de jamón next

I've had tamales from mexico..Venezuela..aruba..Puerto rico.
I just add everything from everywhere..ham..pork..chicken..raisins..olives..capers..peppers..onions..I add plantain to the masa..its a everything but the kitchen sink tamale and its delicious..I put in a banana leaf and then I wrap in parchment and tie..and to add my Caribbean flavor..I add scotch bonnet for a kick and even a little creamed corn to the masa..its super delicious..we call them grandmas kitchen sink tamals..

I'm Puertorriqueña y Dominicana and we call those Pasteles. They make them in Trinidad, Tobago, the Caribbean of Colombia, and Panama too (Am I missing a place) I not sure if they have different names but those are popping 🔥 Around the holidays, my Abuela makes so many of these. Around 100 or 150 and so. She'll take some to our family, take some to a Soup Kitchen or Church Pantry, and freeze some to keep. Then she cooks then up with some pernil and arroz con gandules maybe even so yuca, it's like heaven 👏🏽 My Mom, my Tias, my cousins, and I usually help out in the kitchen too.

For the pero like people (and audience): the "middle thing" is what we call "el guiso" usually it contains meat, chicken and pork with onion, bell peppers, green onion... Then u "decorate" the Hallaca, those decorations may vary from location and family traditions, in my house we decorate them with raw onion, bell pepper, ham, bacon, an olive, pickled vegetables, boiled egg, potato, raisins and alcaparra

I believe that the best part about Hallacas is that it’s a long time-consuming process so it’s made with the whole family participating. When I was a kid whenever we made hallacas I re filled the pots with the mass and the guiso and now I’m either wrapping with the string or building them (the most fun part) so it involves the whole family all listening to ballenatos and gaitas. 🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪

shit is so bad in Venezuela that we barely even have the ingredients to make a christmas feast, its truly horrible. Usually my family makes 100-200 hallacas, but this year they could only make 30 and thats because we have good connections.

I love hallacas. They're delicious. We make a delicious pork, chicken , and beef stew (guiso) for the main ingredient. We also add eggs, raisins, olives, potato, and bell pepper.

I boil the hellacas and then stuff in barbecue coals until the corn gets sweet. I also add creamed corn and sweet dried corn to the meal.
