My relatives are not distant. Both my parents are Sicilian and my grandparents and their parents and so on. I bet you ain't even a drop of Italian and you're just jealous of us.

i asked my gma to cook some "normal food" for a change instead of a huge complicated dinner, when i was 11.. she was so insulted and she asked what's "normal" food. i said "ya know, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza? I dont know, something normal and simple". she didnt say a word back but she was noticibly perturbed. well she went to sams club the next day and bought a pack of like 100 hot dogs, and i was NOT allowed to eat ANYTHING but "NORMAL" food (hotdogs) until they were gone. meanwhile she still cooked the delicious big meals for everyone else. moral of the story? NEVER, EVER!, TAKE NANAS COOKING FOR GRANTED... lmao!!!!
I'm actually 100% Italian and currently living in Italy (Naples) and I loved the video! XD So so so true!!! But... dudes, no one in Italy cooks/eats chicken parmigiana. You're welcome.
My family's Croatian but I can still definitely relate! My grandma would always make like a WHOLE FEAST for just me, and if I'm full and don't want anymore food, my grandparents would just start asking me like "wHAT yOu nO LikE It?" And then I'd have to eat it 'cause I didn't wanna offend them, so I'd get fat and roll back home.
Same with my family!! We’re serbian/croatian and my baba makes so much food every time we go to her house, everytime I say I’m full or I don’t want any she just goes “Oh!” With a confused look on her face 😂😂
+Kate Esquivel-Marcotte I guess in a way we all are kinda the same, aren't we? :) That's why I love this kind of videos! Because we really realize we aren't that different and that's funny

@@kingnothing4347 when my mom carbonara she uses bacon or pancetta. however Alfredo like many other Italian-American foods are bastardized out of necessity. When the people came to this country from Italy that came after the risorgimento. The food and then became multi-regionaland people didn't have the money sometimes for things like chicken or even potatoes as many came here during the great depression or 15 to 20 years before. I grew up speaking English and the Neapolitan dialect I also have knowledge of some Sicilian and standard Tuscan. I love giambotta, escarole and beans, and prasciola. We eat stuff you wont find in a trattoria.
Yes! me and my family have been praying for ✝️🇮🇹 so I hope you and your family are safe ✝️🇮🇹. please read this maybe you guys over there will understand how we are NOT italian and how we ARE in a way. This is how we are americans ♥️🇺🇸. Many of us had to assimilate and love this country so we don't really care to speak Italian in our homes. We know pre industrial italian or bastardized versions. Our food has multi-regional elements from Sicily to Piemonte. You will see a family of half Lingurian, half abruzzese descent mixing food and passing it down. Carbs meet the demand for blue collar work today around 5. Sunday dinners usually start between 2 and 4 but that's usually the only day you really get to have family. Many of us are working class some of us are really successful. Many people hate us and think we are criminals. This is how we are♥️ 🇮🇹. we have much closer family's than most ethnicities we usually choose to live within close proximity to our grandparents and cousins and a similar ethicity sometimes follows in closeness to us, (French, greeks, Portuguese). Some of us have 3 generations in a house here in the north. Many of us trusts family before the authorities or the the church. Some of us believe in the evil eye stregheria, we believe in blending in and respecting the customs of where we are and to uphold them. We have made the choice in some areas to bring italian to schools with italian american populations to revive a sense of culture. This is how it was for my family and my journey in the self segregated north. We pray for Italy🇮🇹✝️🇮🇹 please be safe on lockdown🙏✝️. Dont get sick!
Growing Argentinian is the same. Most people here eat a lot of pasta, move their hands when speaking and are loud, specially the ones from Buenos Aires
+1LIFEtoWIN yes, because in time of immigration tons of Italians went to Argentina because they didn't like how Americans spoke English, and Argentinian ( Spanish ) is the closest to Italian
Then having the “ how not to get mafia affiliated” conversation were your Nonna and Nonno tell you not to take gifts or favors from Italians we don’t know
I'm Italian Canadian, and there's definitely a lot more 'lingo' in our culture than this. Also, my grandparents mostly speak Italian and they have their own character traits that are hilarious. Also also I don't need tanning lotion, half an hour in the sun and I'm 20 shades darker.
Remember though Italian Americans are more deeply rooted than say Italian Canadians, or Italian Australians. Go to some areas in New York, and the vibe is totally different.
Perfect video! I am Greek and I can say that the Italian way of life is exactly the same with the Greek one! Italy and Greece are brother nations! Our cultures are very connected and also we have same origins! Greetings from Athens!! 🇬🇷🇨🇾❤️🇮🇹!!!
My grandparents has a house that belonged to a famous mafia leader here in Louisiana and they still believe there is money hidden somewhere in the house...
Maybe they just are. We are kinda 60 million people just in Italy... And what's wrong about having some Italian relatives and feeling the vibe? Rilassati stellì 😀
ChefBoyardee I am truly Italian. Something fake Italians eat: pepperoni pizza, fettuccine Alfredo, etc. Us real deals eat: eggplant Parmesan (my fav), salami is our pepperoni, and Alfredo is not REAL I get real triggered.
I'm naturally dark so people often think I'm Mexican and eventually they will make an illegal immigrant joke to me then I have to tell them, the weird thing is I'm not sure how my name (Santino) is Mexican.
***** not all italians. There are italians from north and south. Usually from south they do get dark easily, their skin is different. Usually from north, as is colder, we have a paler skin so we just burn. This is a rough generalisation, I have friends from north that can get tan and friends from south that turn into a lobster
noo but when i am at my aunts beach house in sicily, we go to the beach almost everyday, and i take a shower and let my hair dry in the sun. my cousins there do it too, but we dont go out in public like that.
asp che traduco meglio... wait let me translate better... I am Italian and not even one of these things is true. Mafia? Do you really think that every Italian is a gangstar?* here we go By the way in my opinion I think some things are real, like loud family, the tanning obession, infinite food, but yeah this video is full of stereotypez so we Italians don't like it
Alessandro Calgaro yeah I know one time my coworker said is your family in the mafia? And I said goodness not all Italians are in the mafia...but yeah lots of them are😂
Not a problem, I just assume people don't know. Italians who live in Italy for sure don't celebrate it, but when they come here, they tend to adapt some of the culture. Especially a day that involves a ton of food haha
My grandparents came from Italy... sadly I never knew my grandfather and my grandmother passed when i was 7... I still remember the smell of her house it smelled so good and she made the most delicious food she did always insist on us eating more haha. I really miss her
Whenever I go to a restaurant with my Italian grandparents, the dinner ends with my nonna saying: "don't tell me that these are better than the one I do at home with my old old hands"
Literally my family. I was dying laughing when the nonna was talking about Uncle Mario getting money from the mafia because my family used to be in the Italian mafia, and now, rarely anyone speaks about it.
+Mavistheturtle I'm 100% italian and trust me, there's nothing to laugh about when it comes to talk about mafia, that's probably why no one in your family speaks about it.
Same with mine, my great uncle's grandfather knew al capone, he made his suits when Al passed threw Youngstown Ohio on his way to or from chicago or new york, i live in chicago now and its ironic how connected we r to the mafia. 😂😂
If you only knew what Mafia is about you wouldn't be laughing at it like it was some kind of fancy club. The vision americans have of Mafia is very distorted, especially about what Mafia is today.
Wow, I know I am very Italian from both of my grandparents on my mothers side, but I didn’t know how Italian my lifestyle was, except I don’t do the tanning thing, but I do the whole loud family, family secrets, endless food, all of that
Whenever I see my nonno he is so worried about me freezing to death, or just getting cold in general, and dying. I'm from Canada, and one time when I was staying at my nonno's house in Bologna (in the height of summer) I took a shower and didn't dry my hair afterwards. When he saw me with wet hair he got upset about the possibly of me dying from a cold, and my dad had to calm him down. It didn't help when my dad told him that nobody in Canada worries about getting a cold and freezing to death, even in winter because of wet hair, and they're not dead yet. Lol
When I see my Nonno he's always has a story about his farm or acts like a stereotypical immigrant grandfather. "How do you not know what you wanna become? *asks my father* Hey guy, how come your kids don't know what they wanna become?" My answer on it is always Rich.
The same with my well nearly all my older relatives, they worry a lot, I'm Greek. Lots of them grew up in harsh times in Greece, living in poverty. Did your nonno grow up like that? Sometimes I do wonder if their worrying comes from legitimate concerns that you might die seeing as healthcare probably wasn't so great for them growing up.
Emilia Peschina LOL I am from Rome and my mother does the same. Thirty degrees and she used to run after me around the house trying to warn me about pneumonia. ALL Italian moms firmly believe in hairdryers, even the posh Milan ones 😀
I am also Italo Canuck,my father's sister in Italy also believes in the same thing. We are from the progressive north in Italy , that is why we vote Conservative, here in Canada. But they are so backwards over in Italy , I tried to explain about viruses etc, example I ended up with a sinus infection in Geneva, by the time I arrived in Italy , I was spitting a lot , disgusting , yes it was. I spoke to a pharmacist in Italy she told me , she would have to order a penicillin injection for me , unless it is real bad we have not used them in Canada since the 70's, I told her forget it and rode it out. Since I have been using alcohol spray on my hand's in Canada , I have not cold in years.
I have an Italian grandma and one time after school she made me and my sister lunch and I said: “I’m not hungry” and my grandma said back to me: “sweetie are you trying to put me in the grave?” I said no and ended up eating 3 plates of food.

(People who have a distant Italian relative)
“OH MY GOD this is so me”
My relatives are not distant. Both my parents are Sicilian and my grandparents and their parents and so on. I bet you ain't even a drop of Italian and you're just jealous of us.
@@oliviacancio6797 he's talking about people who are like .1% Italian or have great great great grandparents from Italy and are like "OMG SO ME" but their not even in touch with their roots. I know this I am Dominican, my parents born and raised their parents (well my dad's father is Portuguese) and when people are like "OMG my parent's grandparents are Hispanic" makes me uncomfortable because it doesn't really count.
7 rings stan being born somewhere different than your grandparents doesn’t magically change you’re ethnicity. Plus even if all their great grandparents came from Italy they’re still Italian genetically but yeah people who are only 1/4 Italian are annoying acting like they’re Italian and don’t even look Italian like they’re blond hair blue eyed named Mckaylyn and don’t even call their grandparents nonna and nonno
Dudz lol I know and then you have the real ones how are like this is nonna because we all know you never say grandma
I'm latina, my sister wants to get married to an Italian, I want to get married to a greek. That family reunion though
I imagine it as a really loud reunion...beautiful (Italian here)
You know, the sad thing is... Nonna's are a dying breed. The one thing we noticed when we went to Italy to visit family was all the kids leave the small mountain towns and go to the cities to work. I mean that's great that women have a choice of careers now, don't get me wrong, but no Nonnas are being trained in the way of the Nonna any more. The Nonna factories are running dry.
Synystr7 nonne*
They will never run dry
WE SHALL BECOME THEM
Ma n'dove?
Synystr7 ma che problemi hai 😂, sta cagata è solo una roba italo americana.
pls.. don’t judge italian people you don’t know how is really life in Italy :/
i asked my gma to cook some "normal food" for a change instead of a huge complicated dinner, when i was 11.. she was so insulted and she asked what's "normal" food. i said "ya know, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza? I dont know, something normal and simple". she didnt say a word back but she was noticibly perturbed. well she went to sams club the next day and bought a pack of like 100 hot dogs, and i was NOT allowed to eat ANYTHING but "NORMAL" food (hotdogs) until they were gone. meanwhile she still cooked the delicious big meals for everyone else. moral of the story? NEVER, EVER!, TAKE NANAS COOKING FOR GRANTED... lmao!!!!
" Normal food" to us, in Italy, is the "huge complicated dinner".
Hot dogs and hamburgers are just junk food. >:c
Yui yeah i know
You mean nonnas?
+Sentenza Il Cattivo yeah, but i always called her Nana cuz i couldn't pronounce nonna right when i was little lol id say Nah-Nah instead
Nicole Guarnera you just have to say " _nahnnah_"
grandma: where that money came from?
uncle Mario: mafia!
I'm italian and I'm offended
Same tbh, I don't know why it's common to make that stereotype smh it's like calling all of us criminals.
I'm half Italian btw
me too, I live in Italy
to be fair my grandfather was heavily involved. so i want to be offended but i can’t 😂
@Marcelo Firpo you are not supposed to tell hahah
Are the dark parts of Italy called the speghetto

That's awkward! lol
La parmigiana di pollo 😨
Oh, how lucky! I'm Sicillian, but live in American. I have always wanted to live in Italy. Is it beautiful there?
i think it's because italian cousine had some transformation in american, this is a video about italian-americans, not just italians.
italy is awesome

The way she says mafia makes me laugh every time.
I laughed too XD
god i didn't think it would get me but it got me
Was her tone or the pronunciation? 'Cause we actually pronounce Mafia that way in Italy ^_^
It was the whisper and the expression on her face that I found funny.
Same lol
My family's Croatian but I can still definitely relate! My grandma would always make like a WHOLE FEAST for just me, and if I'm full and don't want anymore food, my grandparents would just start asking me like "wHAT yOu nO LikE It?" And then I'd have to eat it 'cause I didn't wanna offend them, so I'd get fat and roll back home.
My father is 2/5 Italian and Serbian. (I took a DNA test.) If you don't eat, you might as well starve. So relatable.
Same with my family!! We’re serbian/croatian and my baba makes so much food every time we go to her house, everytime I say I’m full or I don’t want any she just goes “Oh!” With a confused look on her face 😂😂
My baba would always guilt trip us. Saying "I WIsh I HAd ThIS WhEn I waS YouR aGe".
I'm croatian too🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷
Yeah Italy's countryside and the Balkans share lots of similarieties, especially when it comes to mentality.
She reminds me of my grandma. And yess my family is so loud lol.
Alex goodness yes my poor girlfriend gets so nervous when we are all yelling at each other😂
So this Is basically every italian stereotype condenced into one video.
This makes me realize how alike Italians and Latinos are. 😂 😂
Italians have Middle Eastern ancestry due to the economic trades that occurred
most of these things apply to me and im latino XDD
_MYLIFEASADRI_ _ You forget the turkish people.
pretty ignorant comment Italians are the original Latins. from the Latium specifically.
Probably because Italian have a latin culture too!!!

OK but Alfredo pasta is not even a thing in Italy.
Its poor mans carbonara.
@@matts1451 No, it has literally 0 ingredients in common with carbonara

Yes! me and my family have been praying for ✝️🇮🇹 so I hope you and your family are safe ✝️🇮🇹. please read this maybe you guys over there will understand how we are NOT italian and how we ARE in a way.
+Alejandro Scorsetti Aren't most Argentinians Italian descent anyways?
+1LIFEtoWIN Lol...I was thinking the same thing, plus look at his last name, very italiano.
+1LIFEtoWIN yes, because in time of immigration tons of Italians went to Argentina because they didn't like how Americans spoke English, and Argentinian ( Spanish ) is the closest to Italian

I'm Italian and Scottish, so my Scottish side takes over on my skin, I'm really pale and light skinned
I tan a little bit then it turns into burns and freckles. XD
Remember though Italian Americans are more deeply rooted than say Italian Canadians, or Italian Australians. Go to some areas in New York, and the vibe is totally different.
Nonna? Why are you in this video?
that old lady is so cute

Sophia Aiello Italians don’t celebrate thanksgiving
Italian-Americans do. We don't typically turn down a day to have a big meal with family. Especially on a holiday when (almost) everyone is available.
Nicholas DeLisi Oh ok thanks for the information😂
Not a problem, I just assume people don't know. Italians who live in Italy for sure don't celebrate it, but when they come here, they tend to adapt some of the culture. Especially a day that involves a ton of food haha
The least I have seen at thanksgiving is 20 people 😂

Laila Hernandez technically a Nona
Literally my family. I was dying laughing when the nonna was talking about Uncle Mario getting money from the mafia because my family used to be in the Italian mafia, and now, rarely anyone speaks about it.
Same
+Mavistheturtle I'm 100% italian and trust me, there's nothing to laugh about when it comes to talk about mafia, that's probably why no one in your family speaks about it.
Araba Phoenix Eh ma molti non vanno oltre la base :P
Wow, I know I am very Italian from both of my grandparents on my mothers side, but I didn’t know how Italian my lifestyle was, except I don’t do the tanning thing, but I do the whole loud family, family secrets, endless food, all of that
rule 1: *never deny your italian grandmother's food*
Or you'll pay the consequence...
In Italian
Whenever I see my nonno he is so worried about me freezing to death, or just getting cold in general, and dying. I'm from Canada, and one time when I was staying at my nonno's house in Bologna (in the height of summer) I took a shower and didn't dry my hair afterwards. When he saw me with wet hair he got upset about the possibly of me dying from a cold, and my dad had to calm him down. It didn't help when my dad told him that nobody in Canada worries about getting a cold and freezing to death, even in winter because of wet hair, and they're not dead yet. Lol
This is so cute awww
