His has gotten MUCH better with age and awareness of what’s happening. He has been tested and has a very high IQ, so we know how to keep him challenged without getting stressed. He’s about to turn 13 now. 😢
I had no idea how much feedback this would receive. This was approximately 1.5 years ago and we have had to seek professional treatment for his anxiety. It's certainly not something I toy with, as the caption may have suggested. True OCD is not a joke. At the time, it was more of a cute thing he was doing but it manifested into severe anxiety. We have learned coping techniques to help him so he does not have to be treated with medication, at this point. Inappropriate comments have been removed to further the dialogue.
It's so wonderful you're getting him help at a young age. The longer the behaviors and thoughts continue, the harder it is to treat. You seem like a wonderful parent.
Shannon Jones It's amazing that you caught him so young! I am 13 and we barely realised that my obsession with symmetry and organization plus my anxiety was from ADD and OCD.
Shannon Jones I'm so sorry to hear this.. my son suffers from severe anxiety, OCD and Tourette syndrome.. hope your lil guy is getting some relief with help
Shannon Jones I completely understand what your son is going through, I have severe OCD and through out my day I’m constantly tapping door knobs and wood, Standing up and sitting down as a ritual from OCD intrusive thoughts of diseases, I have a disease phobia which is known as hypochondria and every time a though of disease comes to my mind I tap wood of jump from one room to another disturbing my neighbors on the bottom floor, Or doing math or science facts and rituals in my head, Everyday has been a severe challenge for the past 3/4 Of a year now and it kills me enough seeing myself with severe OCD at the innocent age of 13 I went into tears seeing the the age in the title of that video, Every were I go I get stares from tapping random stuff in the store, I just wish people would understand what I was going through before they stare at me making me feel insecure about my self, I haven’t been brought to therapy yet but my mom said she will as soon as she gets enough money to do it, I just don’t know what to do at this point, Please see this reply and know that your son is not alone I wish him the best to conquer his OCD, Same for me.
Ocd isn't just about neatness. Sometimes they can wash their hands so much they bleed. Its a disease , not just being tidy. They have to do a certain thing in a certain way or else they will be anxious. If his mother took him away from the clothes rack he probably would be thinking about it all day.
he is a smart kid. it's ok. he will be ok. says ocd me. lol. you can always say "hey somebody gets paid to do this and we need to shop. maybe you can do this as a job when you are 16" thanks for being patient with him. he did a great job btw! :)
Thank you for not making an issue out of it. I, too, have OCD and I try to use it for the better. There's a mom with a son who has OCD and she is not working with him, she's grabbing toys out of his hands and says she gets him upset to deal with his frustration. I am so glad you're not like that. Your son will grow up into a fine man. He's awesome now, too. Well done, Mom!
Update from mom - 2017:We continue to receive many generally positive comments about this video. Our son is a highly intelligent, well adjusted 7-year-old. We are working with a professional to help him mitigate his anxiety and OCD tendencies so he does not require medication when he is older. He still wants to "organize" things when we are out in public, but he is much better at home when he is not needing to exert "control" over his environment. If you have a child who suffers from this, or if you do, there are positive ways to live normally and cope with this. This is a genetically inherited condition, so he has many family members (including his mom and maternal grandfather) to help him. Thank you all for your supportive comments and messages! The Jones Family
I had slight OCD as a child and still have some, I'm starting to see signs of OCD in my ten year old daughter I'm now worried this might develop into a bigger problem down the road. As a parent it's terrible to think I might have passed on my problems to my child.
Do not think it’s your fault brother . What’s bound to happen will happen. See what u can do prevent it from becoming a bigger problem online videos or naybe doctors experts advice . Do not blame yourself for what’s out of your control may God bless you
I know this is years late, but your son seems like he was raised a sweet young man. I must say the title of this video was misleading, I thought it was going to be something altogether, but I am glad it turned out to be this. I have OCD myself, but though I am no way perfect, no one is, I did my best to be a good kid, and though I am an adult, I still try to be a good person.
I had OCD when I was a kid, i wore a school uniform that was very irritating to me because i didn't like the way it felt on my skin, it was pure torture everyday at school, my parents didn't understan what I was going through they thought I was just being fussy..i went through complete hell...
I think he just wants to be productive and that is his level of ability. I did that exact same thing as a child. Also boring in those stores for a kid. Now of course I have more important things to do. A little bit of work for a child can be good.
Actually this is definitely a sign that you should be worried.. OCD is more than just being organized. It's probably going to be really challenging for him.
Jessie it's not just challenging when you're older. it's really difficult for young children as well. They can't properly cope with emotions and it leads to a lot of other problems as well.
JessieBoo She does have to worry. She might have to worry about a breakdown you can't even image happening, happening to her own child. Pain from anxiety you wouldn't understand. OCD makes you worry A LOT.
Mommy needs to find expertise advice, counsel and courage as to how to teach and discourage the OCD behavior in her beautiful little boy, instead of welcoming it and reaffirming it.
I know the feelings of urge when something isn’t right way too well. 😂 He’s excessively smart for a 5 year old. What he’s going through now will make him stronger in the future. May I ask, is he still dealing with OCD?
Wow, I have to say I do understand him though. I wish things were more orderly as well. good job mommy being calm, understanding and giving him time to complete his task.
I feel this kid. I was diagnosed with OCD at a very young age and to this day I still do what he did in this video. I have chronic OCD and sometimes it sucks. I hope he finds a way to cope with it. This child is just too adorable
Hopefully he is like me and learns how to cope with it because I was at same way as a child my OCD is still present but not as bad in grocery stores if something was slightly off-centered or crooked I would have to sit there and fix it and make sure it looks nice to me.
Aww he's so cute i have OCD aswell it affects my life and not in a good way i also have server social anxiety. I hope he is feeling a bit better with his condition i know how the little guy feels it's hard living with OCD and anxiety makes it even worse..
I haven't been diagnosed with OCD but I used to do things like this when I was little. I would put DVD'S or other items at the store in alphabetical order or by color etc.
i do that now i dont have ocd but i cant stand it when things are messy my mom loves it because ill just have an outburst and clean the whole house because i cant stand messes
im notsaying you're lying but you can behave like that but not have ocd like i go to stores and i like to organize it if i see stuff out of place i dont have ocd it just bothers me when things are un organized
I have ocd and it’s really debilitating wether I’m counting to a certain number or touching things a certain amount of times it takes a lot out of me and my day but if I don’t do those things I feel like something isn’t rite and actually get anxiety... I’ve gotten better but the best of luck you you and your family it’s very tough and stressful as well as time and energy consuming.
*All kids do this, you tell them to stop touching things in the shop its not there job and they will get in trouble, that makes them soon stop, but you dont encourage it otherwise you will find it gets worse in the future, you have to distract them*
What a sin. I know what it's like to struggle with high levels of anxiety but I've never experienced OCD anxiety so I can only imagine how debilitating it can be...and for kids to have to feel these things at such young ages... I hope he's getting along well now. At least OCD is one of the most treatable anxieties, so he has that on his side.
Mar Mar perfectionist is more like everything you create or accomplish must be done perfectly. not you see something and have to fix it, that's more compulsive.
OCD or Obsessive Compulsive disorder is made of obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions (and the disarray or disorder that an OCD person perceives continues (by not letting them organize it or the problem reccuring) can cause anxiety). For instance obsessive thoughts, the clothes aren't color matched. You need to fix it, the clothes are in order, how can someone leave this like that? you have to fix it! it's all out of order.... and the compulsive actions is the actual fixing of those items. That's how I understand OCD in this context to be, I'm not a professional. I just find things like OCD and ADHD fascinating (easy to say if you've never had them I know) But just hoped we could all go forward with a bit better of an understanding :)
hashack11 OCD is more to do with irrational obsessive thoughts followed by compulsive actions to reduce the anxiety. In this case, it's OCD if the kid feels something truly bad and irrational will happen if they clothes are left unorganized (such as his mom dying). Then he would be organizing to stifle the anxiety of his mom possibly dying. If he simply thinks they look better lined up and has a great desire to do so, that's not necessarily OCD. It's just a strong preference.
I think his ocd is telling him it needs to me right or else it doesn’t seem right so try not to let him do that it makes his ocd worse see how long he can wait before doing that if the first one is too hard because it helps me
He is now 11 years old and going into middle school. His OCD related stress has calmed a lot, but he does still have some obsessive tendencies. A few years after this, he was tested and has a high IQ, so he was put in gifted a class, which really helped him to be around other similar kids.

He is now a very bright, well-adjusted 7-year-old. He continues to manage anxiety and we are working with a professional to mitigate his anxiety so he doesn't require medication when he is older. His OCD tendencies usually come as a result of stress, and he doesn't always order everything. It happens most often in public, when he is outside his element and can exert some control over his environment. He will not ever overcome this, but we are helping him to live a productive life despite of it.
I do the same thing in stores but I'm on new medicine. It seems to be working. Let me know if you want the name of the medicine I'm on if his condition gets severe but I'd say that kids don't need medicine until their condition is debilitating.
NoiceCream I'm totally sure. The tendencies portrayed in this video are those of someone who is a perfectionist, but not necessarily with OCD. Although this may not suggest serious obsessive compulsive disorder, it does seem that it could manifest itself in the future.
This kid should work at target
Big facts
bless him what a sweetie, hope you find something that helps him cope with his ocd
Thank you! He is a very smart boy with a HUGE heart!
Amy Bullingham it's not tho
He will be employee of the month every month. Lol.
I had ocd when I was a kid it got better as I got older, I can hear the stress in his voice, oh man, he said when he realized they were mixed up
Does it really get better
@@ayushibasu5885 it did for me 🤷🏼♂️
@bestmariokartgameplay omg i feel so stupid right now, i thought people get ocd when they are born

One time in an airport I watched a man walk by a stand with pamphlets and organize every one before he could keep moving on to his terminal
Thats actually really convenient. Makes it easier to find the size you want. Every store should do that
Gabby Sara it's not the store it's just shoppers not putting back the clothes where they originally found them
Bless him. I had ocd worst as a child. Not as bad now. My parents didn't get me help . They tholt I was naulty 😞 keep the good work up mum! X
Why did they think you were bad for wanting to be organized?
he is a smart kid. it's ok. he will be ok. says ocd me. lol.

Poor little guy, so worried about something so insignificant.
kids like this would do really well in a creative field as a career in the future
I had slight OCD as a child and still have some, I'm starting to see signs of OCD in my ten year old daughter I'm now worried this might develop into a bigger problem down the road. As a parent it's terrible to think I might have passed on my problems to my child.
OCD is genetic

It’s not ur fault. I have OCD and I don’t blame my parents for it.
That is unreal. I could use his help in my closets...He must be super intelligent!

People making light of this are annoying me so much. I see this kid and I feel moved because he's full of anxiety. I hope he's recovering now
My girl has this and some times we don't understand her. And is so frusting , but every day I learn from her.

This should be played with the Monk theme song playing
I think he just wants to be productive and that is his level of ability. I did that exact same thing as a child. Also boring in those stores for a kid. Now of course I have more important things to do. A little bit of work for a child can be good.
She said he is diagnosed with OCD.
O c d brings Perfectionist
Well at least you dont have to worry, because he is quite well organized for his age .
Actually this is definitely a sign that you should be worried.. OCD is more than just being organized. It's probably going to be really challenging for him.
But the title says he HAS OCD and he has been like this since he was 2. It is going to be challenging for him when he's older.

JessieBoo She does have to worry. She might have to worry about a breakdown you can't even image happening, happening to her own child. Pain from anxiety you wouldn't understand. OCD makes you worry A LOT.
I’d suggest go to a therapist it helps my ocd
I love his shirt and I hope he gets better, poor baby.
I work at target. Dude works harder than i do.

we need him at Ross he is awesome at recovering

He is adorable
Next time he's at Target have him to organize the socks 🧦😊
I haven't been diagnosed with OCD but I used to do things like this when I was little. I would put DVD'S or other items at the store in alphabetical order or by color etc.
i do that now i dont have ocd but i cant stand it when things are messy my mom loves it because ill just have an outburst and clean the whole house because i cant stand messes
Oshi Alistarr I did that too, but I'm not OCD.
And I’m to lazy hanging my cloths at home...
At least you can get early intervention to help him.
THIS KID CAN ACTALLY GET JOB THERE....i would hire him...
absolutely adorable
I Do This All The Time AND My Parents GROUND Me For "Faking" OCD To Get Attention.
im notsaying you're lying but you can behave like that but not have ocd like i go to stores and i like to organize it if i see stuff out of place i dont have ocd it just bothers me when things are un organized
Instead of being so mean your parents should get you tested no one fakes ocd
Melanie Barksdale Oooohhh that's where you're wrong
Edward H wow
Your parents are horrible
I would not dissuade him from this. He is being helpful, and a blessing.
I do this stuff all the time and people just just stare like I'm crazy
His heavy breathing hits me hard. He’s tired, but he HAS to do it. OCD is a curse.
I have ocd and it’s really debilitating wether I’m counting to a certain number or touching things a certain amount of times it takes a lot out of me and my day but if I don’t do those things I feel like something isn’t rite and actually get anxiety... Liverbird 55 exactly, but some parents love having unique, special darlings who they believe are the best in the world, CLOWNS
No, he actually has ocd.
Roger Ward The fuck are you talking about? No.
Liverbird 55 boi
I used to go into the markets and organize their shelves at a kid and all the labels had to be showing
What a sin. Dear god

I feel bad for him
It must be diffcult not knowing what you are going through
Poor kid ocd his a burden to me the worst part is people think it just means you’re neat or like to be clean it’s not
his adorable x
I have OCD when I was about t I would throw a tantrum because my Netflix shows weren't organised by there colors
I feel ya, kid!
I sympathise- I like everything to be in order too
I would like to understand why this happens, I used to be the same way. 😭
...Okay so this tells me he is a perfectionist.
Mar Mar OCD is not something like perfectionist
I know I have OCD and I know he does but in this one video it doesn't show any signs of OCD
Mar Mar perfectionist is more like everything you create or accomplish must be done perfectly. not you see something and have to fix it, that's more compulsive.
"you're hired"
He seems to know exactly what he wants and makes it happen, so that's a good thing. But I bet it makes your shopping trips like 5 hours long.
I have many things wrong with me and they are obvious, but no one ever asks about them, including OCD, and reflex anoxic seizures

Lovely boy!!!
My son has OCD. He is 6, I'm a single father of 2. Please help me on what to do for my baby.
Manager in the works
I’m wondering how he is now
He is now 11 years old and going into middle school. His OCD related stress has calmed a lot, but he does still have some obsessive tendencies.
A few years after this, he was tested and has a high IQ, so he was put in gifted a class, which really helped him to be around other similar kids.
Aww, that’s great! Thanks for the update. I have OCD and so does my 6 year old.
Awe he is cute ^.^
I know this video is old but the best way to help him with his ocd, is not allow him to make everything perfect. the best way to get him to overcome ocd, he needs to understand that not everything can be perfect and orderly.

Shannon Jones Well I'm glad to hear that. I really wish there were a cure for OCD. It's a terrible thing to cope with from what I know.
This is ligit me at Walmart just color coordinating it or making it even.
fun fact both of my parents have OCD its a nightmare
Future drill sergeant. Lol.
He has to work at target sometime!
I have Ocd...and it sucks. Im not just saying I organize things but I go to therepy for it.
Must be exhausting..☹️
He reminds me of the guy from the good doctor
I hate having ocd gives me anxiety :(
I do the same thing in stores but I'm on new medicine. It seems to be working. Let me know if you want the name of the medicine I'm on if his condition gets severe but I'd say that kids don't need medicine until their condition is debilitating.
Cutiiiieeeee😍😍👏👏
I do that sometimes in the supermarket and people look at my but i dont care
does he really have ocd?
NoiceCream I'm totally sure. The tendencies portrayed in this video are those of someone who is a perfectionist, but not necessarily with OCD. Although this may not suggest serious obsessive compulsive disorder, it does seem that it could manifest itself in the future.
1123581321 Genius His mother says that when he got older it became an anxiety to do it rather than a need.
