    i like to put a clean rag in the intake when i remove the air filter body ,, i have dropped a few screws over the years ,, and it saves time so you don't have to go fishing for the screws that went down the carb or even into the engine ,, great video ..

    I replaced the carb on my k321 with yours and it works so much better now. It is amazing just how much quieter a new carb makes it. I am also sure I am getting better MPG on top of that. I installed it with a friend who has a bunch of old tractors and he was so impressed he bought 3 the next day.

    This video makes me miss my 1987 Craftsman GT6000 that I couldn't physically manage the Deck Attatchment, so I sold it...
    Too bad because it had the Electric Actuated Sleeve Hitch and numerous Attatchments that where Handmade.

    I have a set of the hose pliers from Harbor Freight. They have a round opening at the end that allows you to break a hose free from a hose barb without ripping the hose.

    One other thing that can cause a engine to only run with the choke on is valves are not sealing and need either adjusted or lapped and then adjusted. But the engine is normally also difficult to start if the valves are the culprit. Not trying to step on your toes or anything Norman, or trying to sound like a know it all.

    Do you have a carb for a p218 jd 318 Onan engine?

    • @artszabo1015
      @artszabo1015 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bolts on that carb go up through the bottom of the intake manifold. So you need to remove the manifold to change the carb. You need to remove the muffler and both exhaust manifolds also. Give yourself lots of room. The intake manifold is two piece, top and bottom, they are prone to leak along that seam. Clean that seam thoroughly and seal it up with multiple coats of spray on gasket sealer (High Tack). If you don't do this it will suck air and wreak havoc with the governor and the engine will lope bad.

      @@johnhall1614 Clean that seam thoroughly with a pick, wire brush whatever and spray it with High Tack gasket sealer coat after coat just like paint. It worked for me. I did that and put a new (aftermarket) carb on and it runs like a new engine with 1500 hours.

    you could have started with a rebuilt of the original; a gasket set and ultrasonic cleaner could be a fix. It would be more educational.

  • @rickwindsor2625
    @rickwindsor2625 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not just clean it ?

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you asked me this question 20 years ago I'd say yes clean it. But at this point in time 20 to 30 years after the carburetor was produced. It's typically time for a new one as cleaning doesn't solve air leaks from worn rotating parts like the throttle shaft.
