      Iirc similar thing with silent hill 2. He played cause the silent hill transmission announcement and 2 remake was unveiled. Pretty sure if rumors of remakes or new games coming and he hasn’t played before he tries jumping in before the announcement truly made so he knows what expect of remakes and prolly helps him get ahead whatever TH-cam recommendations things works with for his views so honestly it’s prolly working out well for him and expanding his game knowledge and getting into fandoms.

    Something still wild to me is how well Snake Eater 3D works on the 3DS, particularly if you have a New 3DS. My first playthough of 3d was the first time I ever managed a no alert playthrough of the game, despite having only ever played the game on PS2 previously. And things like menu navigation and camo changing were much more streamlined with the touch screen.
    I still think HD collection is a better way to play the game, but I can definitely say 3D is way more solid than I ever expected.

      The controls of 3d are based around peace Walker. You can crouch walk and there is 3rd person mode for shooting. The major negative is the framerate but I personally found it to be the best controlling version by far

    I hope they keep the classic codec calls the same. In MGSV I largely ignored/ was too distracted by playing the game to care what what being said in any call and thus the game lost a lot of it's charm that the older titles had. Hard to get invested into the lore when you accidentally trigger an alert phase and are fighting back, ya know? Sometimes modern conveniences aren't always needed. We THINK we want them, but only because we've been conditioned into thinking new = better.

    • @ioncewasmikey
      @ioncewasmikey ปีที่แล้ว

      The "meat" of the codec calls in previous games was moved to the cassette tapes of MGSV. That's where all the deeper story details lie, inside that big collection of tapes.
      I recently started playing Ground Zeroes again after hearing about the MGS3 remake, and plan on getting back into MGSV:TPP afterward. I've been watching some videos about those games too, and there are some great essays on the TH-cam channel "FuturaSound" or something along those lines regarding MGSV's story. Highly recommend, but long story short, Kojima was telling that story in a very specific way with how he created the game. They did one recently called "MGSV Is Not Unfinished," very eye-opening stuff.

    The controls in MGS3 are janky-but if you truly master them and play this game on European Extreme there is no satisfaction like it. The fact that the game is difficult to control is part of the design in my opinion. If Snake were agile and ability to just pop off shots no problem, you wouldn’t feel outmatched and like every decision counts

    One of my absolute all time favorites. I litterally modeled my own teenage personality after Naked Snake (I know I coulda done better) but my god was this game impactful.
    Idk how a modern remake will go. if they opt to smooth out the controls the game will be far too easy but I don't want them to change the layout too much to add difficulty. I think it should be a mix of borth, get rid of the annoying tropes like no crouch walking and the aiming system but do not make snake as fast and versatile as the MGS5 version, that way it remains a slow-paced stealth game just but a bit more fun to play

    • @ioncewasmikey
      @ioncewasmikey ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm torn on this myself. It seems from the released screenshots that the maps will remain largely the same. So if they update the controls to more of a MGSV scheme, I could see the game becoming way too easy. But then again, I'd absolutely love to play through the world of MGS3 with intuitive controls. So hopefully they can alter the enemy AI so enemies are better matched to Snake's (potentially) augmented abilities. It's going to be a balancing act for sure, and I'm not extremely confident in Konami's ability to do it without Kojima.

    • @curiousconsultant7922
      @curiousconsultant7922 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ioncewasmikey Kojima is a great creator but in this case the creation is there. The amazing story, setup, themes etc... as far as technical game design goes I should hope that Konami can hire some top tier experts.
      But MGS3 definitely deserves a remake. It's a masterpiece that new generation won't get to experience otherwise

    • @ioncewasmikey
      @ioncewasmikey ปีที่แล้ว

      @Curious Consultant Oh I would never argue that it doesn't need a remake, that's for sure. And you're right, the bones are already there, Kojima put them in place back on the PS2. But I feel like the super realistic graphics combined with the more or less archaic controls of the original could be quite a jarring experience. So if they start altering the gameplay while keeping maps, etc largely the same, the whole magic of the game could fall apart. Hopefully the company Konami has partnered with for this can manage to find that balance.
      I have a feeling the game play itself will be largely augmented for these reasons. And after all, they're still planning on porting a remaster of the original to current Gen with the "Master Collection Volume 1," so what would be the point in releasing the exact same game maybe a year or 2 apart, just one has better graphics? I think that's the main thing that makes me believe they'll be fiddling with some things for Delta.

    • @colinnixon7739

      It's definitely doesn't have a better story. The only part I think was great was the boss and snakes relationship. The rest of the game really seemed kind of pointless and hammy 😂
      They was literally introducing characters just to die, their deaths had no effect on snake or the plot that includes volgin. Only the boss' death mattered

    • @matthewsommerville88
      @matthewsommerville88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@colinnixon7739 Well to be fair the boss/snake dynamic is strong enough to make the story more compelling than MGS2 alone. I think both are equally pointless. I enjoyed the pointlessness of 2 better but many disagree.

    • @colinnixon7739
      @colinnixon7739 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Matthew Sommerville bro, the boss and snake were together for about 10 percent of the total game.... that's not enough for anything to be more compelling.
      Raiden vs all the other characters in mgs2 was intense, had purpose and left a lasting impact on him and the in game world. I'm sorry but outside a few convos with the boss and maybe ocelot the rest of the game is meaningless/boring

    • @matthewsommerville88
      @matthewsommerville88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@colinnixon7739 I agree about MGS2, its scope is huge and I personally like it more. But from a story stand point I still think the entire story (even if short) between boss and snake is more compelling from a micro / character building perspective. They really are completely different worlds, with MGS2 big picture and MGS3 deep and personal. Just because its short doesn’t mean it didn’t have a huge splash, and even so, the entire story holds up that dynamic without them ever even being together which is why the finale is so good.

    MGS 3 is the Rambo game we deserved. one of the best games ever.
    2 was ahead of its time with the AI stuff, and 3 is my fav of the series. even today it’s very much playable and enjoyable - still a lot better than many games nowadays. only thing that bothers me is the controls, and maybe that some areas are really narrow due to technical limitations.

    I remember in the online portion we would make the characters "dance" while aiming/shooting at other opponents so that our character's head was a moving target while in one place. This required holding R1 + L2 to aim while tapping R2 and L2 to shift to the sides while also tapping X to stand/crouch, and finally Square to fire. It was a steep learning curb but once master it was highly effective

    Great video Matty! It’s always fun to hear people talk about one of my favorite series. I jumped onto Metal Gear relatively late, finishing the first three MGS games just in time to play MGS4 at launch, and it quickly became one of my favorite series ever. I go back and forth whether MGS1 is my favorite or MGS3, but MGS2 and MGS4 are also way up at the top too. I’m less fond of MGSV and the other games, but it’s still part of this series I love. For those of you who are curious about the timeline, here it is:
    - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
    - Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (the canonicity is questionable as Kojima did not work on it, but there are a few references to it here and there in the games)
    - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
    - Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
    - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
    - Metal Gear (this is the original game that started the whole series back in 1987)
    - Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
    - Metal Gear Solid (there is also a GameCube exclusive remake for this one called The Twin Snakes)
    - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
    - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
    - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
    Non-canon games include but are not limited to:
    - Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel
    - Metal Gear Ac!d
    - Metal Gear Ac!d 2
    - Snake’s Revenge

      MGSV seems to be one of the most polarizing games of all time. I’ve seen and heard so many different opinions on it. Some seem to think it’s a 10/10 masterpiece but I’ve also heard others say it’s trash, I’ve never played it myself but I just find it interesting that it’s such a divisive game among the fandom of metal gear

    • @Road_to_Dawn
      @Road_to_Dawn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeremyroberts8822 Yeah... it's definitely a unique entry in the series lol. I generally like the story and the twist ending, but it was also way too wide open compared to literally any other game in the series, the vast majority of which are actually really linear. And the story is mostly only told through audio tapes that IIRC you can only listen to in the menu, which is actually something that Peace Walker did before it, but it seemed much less egregious to me. Act 2 of the game mostly consists of replaying chapters from Act 1 but with harder and IMO less fun constraints, and generally feels like a whole bunch of filler. Plus, best fans can tell, there was a whole third Act that seems to have been cut, both due to the Kojima/Konami fiasco and to also avoid drawing out the already lengthy dev time any further. Definitely a contentious game in a series many fans would say is full of contentious entries lol

    I think MGS 2 is one of the greatest games of all time.. I think stylistically, aesthetically alone it's stands out more than MGS 3.. from playing as Snake to Raiden... the Brooklyn bridge intro on the ship... to then switching characters... I think the boss fights, the story, just about everything is 10x more iconic, and memorable. I loved MGS 3... but it was forgettable in comparison to MGS2. I can't wait for them to remake that.. Hopefully MGS 3 remake is a great start.

    Oh hell no, he just called Naked Snake "Solid Snake". On a serious note, I can't wait to play Snake Eater on PS5, I agree that the controls even on the collection were very clunky, I prefer MGS4 controls but now I can't wait to play Snake Eater with hopefully mgsv tpp style controls. I loved mgs3 for how innovative it was especially for The End alternative endings and the immersive sniper battle, how enemy soldiers morale was affected by ration storage sites being destroyed.... I could go on but it's spoiler territory... One thing that looks interesting from the trailer is how they show an anaconda and a croc fighting, so I'm wondering if in the swamps we might be occasionally ambushed by anacondas or other reptiles if we don't spot them earlier enough. I haven't been this excited for a game for a long time.

The only minor thing is controlling the second analog stick while shooting but it's so minor it may as well not be an issue.
