    Have you changed your Gear Oil (Final Reduction) yet? I know some of you put a ton of miles on your bike so I hope this video helps! ✌

    Great video! Ready to give my ‘23 ADV its first oil change and I will also change out the Final Reduction as well. I purchased a shop manual which suggested to slowly rotate the tire while draining the final reduction fluid, which I’ll do.

    This is my first scooter/motorcycle type vehicle, and it took me a good 5 minutes to figure out all these "gear oil" results are in fact referring to the "CVT fluid" I was looking for.
    I don't know why it's called something different by the community for motorcycles VS cars, it's the exact same thing 😅

      The only thing that trips me up from your oil recommendation is the 10W-40 oil you recommend when the maintenance manual says it should be 10W-30. Did you say it is because of the weather or something? I'll watch again. Well done. Thanks again.

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CopyWhoTV My dealer uses this also for Gear Oil and I figured it would be fine in a warmer climate when I ride the most. If you can get 10W-30 that's what the Service Manual suggests. Not much difference really. 10W-40 is slightly thicker and fine in warmer weather. If you ride in a colder climate I'd stick with 10W-30 if it were me. Hope that helps. ✌️

    I've been binge watching your videos because I'm looking to get an ADV 150. I no longer have the "need for speed" and just want reliability. My question is: Are the screws in this machine standard phillips or JIS? Oh yeah, I also subscribed!

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the sub! Do you mean like screws for the covers and things? I'd have to check because I've never taken covers off to be honest. I'll let ya know though!

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I am seeing typical Phillips, especially for covers. They also use plastic clip removal tools you can get off Amazon or eBay to remove snap type cover connections.

    • @dmac9954
      @dmac9954 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Trekopolis Thanks for the reply. I know that Japanese bikes use Japan Industrial Standard (JIS) screws that look like phillips but can be stripped out if you use a phillips screwdriver. I wasn't sure about this machine since it's being made in Thailand.

    Well,i dont have honda oil with moly in it,only regular full syntehic,so i changed engine oil (runs good) and changed the gear oil with the same 10w30 that used in egnine (without moly as i said) and im not happy with the sound of the gear box.
    Is that cuz the moly is missing ? Should i manualy add moly in it or use 80w90 ?

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  ปีที่แล้ว

      When in doubt go with the recommendation the service manual states. I've not really noticed anything unusual regarding the sound of the gearbox to be honest. Did you notice a difference after you changed it from the factory oil?

    • @audiophilipp
      @audiophilipp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Trekopolis yes,grinding sound,because my oil dont have moly in it,and the factory one has (silver thing in it is moly)

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@audiophilipp Well, you may want to drain and fill with that and see how it sounds. It's easy enough to do. I may add a little MMO to my gearbox for good measure. Not much, just a few MLs. I use it in my fuel and all my other vehicles. Helps reduce noise and extends the life of mechanical stuff.

    The density of motor oil is about 0.9167 grams per milliliter. So, 123 milliliters of motor oil would weigh about 112.7541 grams. Use a gram scale to measure the correct amount of gear oil if you don't have a volume measuring cup. I'm going with 113 grams since kitchen scales are only accurate to 1 gram.

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Would the type of oil matter, meaning 10w-20 vs 10w-50, etc?

    • @SunshineDave
      @SunshineDave ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Trekopolis Maybe, but the difference in density would be so little as not to matter measuring so small an amount. A 5W-30 might be a miniscule fraction less dense. I learned to cook over the pandemic and discovered the metric system finally and measuring everything by weight is so much easier and scalable. On the ADV150, you can change the engine oil AND the final reduction oil with slightly less than one 946ml (quart). 694g for the engine and 113g for the final reduction gears. That leaves about 61g unused in a quart container (Total gram weight of a quart of motor oil is about 868g). I used Valvoline 10W-40 Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil.
      Thanks for the videos. I'm learning a lot from your experiences.

      @@SunshineDave Thanks Dave. Appreciate that. I'm not a gear head by all means, but enjoy learning as I go. I'd rather save some money and do things myself if I can. It's also fun to tinker at times as long as it's not 120 degrees in my garage!

    hi buddy, I'm about to actually change the gear oil (will use my kitchen measure cup instead of your medical fancy injector 😆) when I get the HP4S 😛10w30. I wanna change my engine regular oil with the full synthetic version, hey you almost at 1k subs 👊i remember when i joined, you were on the 300s. so congrats well earned, on a site note: my rear tire treat is low (4300 miles) or due to change, well my dealer doesnt have the tire in stock but they checked on US stores and are backordered 😮 for months. So you need to start looking and buying your tires, watch videos on top brands etc i was able to find a bridgestone battlax sc on ebay for $100, the dealer charge $50 on labor. Once arrives i will have them install it LOL im too chicken to mess with that even if i have the service manual (noticed you got your 💪), they will inspect my scooter as well break system, pads, etc... one more thing that big piece of metal is no bueno, it means something broke inside the autoclutch gear or whatever they called it but i highly advise you to open it apart and investigate the cause and/or replace a part inside (video please LOL)

    • @Trekopolis

      It looked a lot bigger in video, but it was pretty small in actuality. I saw a few larger shavings on my first oil change, but didn't film that back then. Shavings are fairly normal on new vehicles from what I've read. I'll keep an eye and ear on things and will change my gear oil next season just to see if anything else exits the area. Yes, nearly 1k subs! That's exciting and I've worked hard for it so it's starting to benefit. Thanks for all your support along the way too. Really appreciate my regular followers! Hey, Honda has some new oil and I'll post something under the Community Tab soon. I forgot the link, but it's a newer generation oil. Replaces the oil I used in my engine oil videos.
