    Method #1 (M1) is what I'd recommend when changing engine oil. If you watch my video on Method #2 (M2) I show how to drain the oil from the Filter/Screen side. With the (M1) method it makes more sense and the oil drain plug sits lower on the engine and you don't have a mess removing the Filter/Screen. I've seen countless videos of doing it both ways, so hopefully this helps!

    • @catfish24
      @catfish24 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes you do have to drain the oil screen side if you want to get all the oil out just draing the oil from the oil drain plug does not get all the oil out there in still some oil where the oil screen is.

      @Trekopolis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@catfish24 Yep, that's why I show both examples. I've found that too. Thanks!

    Just a couple items. The oil you recommended is not what Honda engineers recommend in the manual or service manual. They recommend 10w30 JASO MB rated oil. Your oil is MA rated, which is for motorcycles that share engine oil and clutch/transmission. It has additional friction elements added to stop clutch slippage. Since our scooters have a CVT transmission, they do not need the additional friction. It will negatively affect gas mileage compared to MB, which is for dry transmission scooters.. Next, the amount needed is 0.8L, not 0.08L as you state. Inspection of the video shows you measured almost 0.9L, which is overfull. The manual states the oil filter screen only needs to be cleaned every other oil change, or 8,000 miles. However, it is so easy, why not?

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the update. Yes, I had a digit off with the zero. I'll make a note on the video or in the pinned comment. I knew my oil was a little liberal, but I drained some and corrected it. Regarding the oil, it's what my dealer has always recommended so just going by that. I'll be sure to ask them next time I'm in there to get their input.

    • @Julio-bc7pj
      @Julio-bc7pj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      shoot, i believe i got the MA version as well by pure mistake. Would it mess up my ADV150 real bad? what could be the side effects? i'm guessing i need to dump that oil asap and buy the MB rated version. Thx for your comment above, that was a great point 😊

    • @Julio-bc7pj
      @Julio-bc7pj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i looked all over for MB rated and couldn't find it anywhere. Only MA, if you know or have a place or maybe a different brand please share with us. Thx

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I doubt the MA type oil will harm anything, especially if my dealer is recommending it to everyone for these bikes. I'll call them today to get their input, but I've ran my bike on it for two years. I'll circle back on this later to update everyone, no worries.

    Great video but the oil pictured is the wrong oil for this scooter. The Honda GN4 is for motorcycles with a wet clutch. The Honda scooters should run on oil with molly (GN4M). Molly is a friction modifier and will help prolong engine life. Scooters have a dry clutch. Being this video is older im sure you have figured all this out by now. Thanks for taking the time to share this.

    • @Trekopolis

      This was a question when the video came out and according to the Honda dealership, that oil is what they use at the factory. They came out with a synthetic now. It was confusing for sure and I've switched to another brand.

    Not bad at all. I will certainly update my approach to my next oil change based upon this video. I will drain directly from the bottom, and I will get one of those magnetized caps you are using. This made me realized that I didn't clean my filter when I did it. I drained from the filter side, and when it was done running out, I tipped the bike some to get more oil to drip out. Another thing, I didn't run the engine before doing the change. What purpose does that serve? Maybe to warm up the oil so more comes out during the drain? I'm curious. Good video.

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You got it. The warmer/hotter the engine oil the better flow you achieve. I usually ride mine before an oil change, but since I just did one for the other video I figured it wouldn't matter. Now my oil should be super clean! Two oil changes in a week. But, It's cheap enough to demonstrate the process. Thanks!

    Question, isn’t Pro Honda GN4 motor oil certified JASO MA for applications with wet clutches? My ADV manual specifies certified type
    MB. Wouldn’t Pro Honda HP4M be the correct fill according to the manufacturer?

      Attracts metal shavings from engine parts that break off and wear from friction. They are hard to see sometimes, but they are there, especially with newer motors as they break in and wear.

    What torque for the bolts?

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think I read oil drain bolt is roughly 18 ft-lbs, but I've never used a torque wrench on any oil change on my vehicles. As long as you don't overtighten you're good. A good measure is once the flush part of the bolt meets the metal tighten just enough to apply some pressure to lock in the seal, but not much more. It's a feel thing usually. 👍
