Just changed battery on a 2018 Edge Titanium and yes, it's original factory that went bad, 5 years, I'm cool with that. Thing is it gave no warning, parked fine, two hours later won't start, battery chkd not running at 9v, running at 14.4 from alt. So charging but dead cells. Came here next, saw what I needed to do. Changed out in around 30 minutes, I'm retired, ain't in a hurry. Funny thing is, it didn't throw a code. I went through the reset anyway like demoed. Had to re-program radio and seat, everything else was same as before. Was I lucky or missed something? Edge drives, runs, starts, fine.
great advise. Do you have any knowledge of when the battery may be draining for no apparent reason. Alternator checks out good, band new battery that keeps draining. Ive checked all of the lights and anything that may have been left on but cant find why its draining after sitting. Is it a battery reset issue? Great videos, I learn a lot here. I searched for an answer for this but did not locate one, sorry if I missed it. 2019 Edge SEL. Replaced battery with H6 AGM battery by Interstate, because the auto start/stop did not work. Did not care about that feature much but wanted to know WHY it did not work. After replacing battery and resetting the BMS with the headlight/brake switch procedure, it works now. (Dealer at my 4500 mile oil change said my battery was somewhat weak.) Anyway, with my AlphaMX OBD code reader my charge voltage regulates well, but at 13.5 volts. I have driven the Edge to southern Arkansas no problem. Should I be worried about the charge voltage? Does this procedure happen when you replace the battery or when you install a incorrect battery? . Like on certain jaguars and BMWs if you do not install it AGM battery you cannot program it to the vehicle which throws up codes left and right everywhere across the whole board looks like a Christmas tree 🤔🙄
You said this kind of odd it's hard for me to follow Yeah it's going to reset the battery monitor no matter what so even if it's the incorrect battery it's going to reset it the vehicle doesn't know whether or not it's thing correct battery on the more basic battery monitor systems like Ford has
I just replaced the battery in my wife’s 2014 Taurus SEL 3.5 I went to do the BMS reset like you told us about but I think the battery light is out it doesn’t come on with the key in the on position Silly question but can theses lights/bulbs be replaced? Also is common to hear a clicking sound when hitting the high beams ( not the switch but under hood) didn’t have anyone to listen to it when I did it Thanks
Your car might not even have a battery monitor system, just let the vehicle sit for 8 hours overnight on its own and it will reset on its own if it does without touching it

I hardwired a radar detector onto my Toyota. After that when I started the car it would turn off 2 seconds later. The car was in anti-theft mode. I had to physically with the key unlock the outside car door and lock it and unlock then the car started fine without shutting off.

Buddy that's probably because you're 2012 Explorer doesn't have a battery monitor system as I've said in the other four videos that I've had people keep not following directions because they don't check to see if they actually have the system that they're trying to perform this on
And if you would have looked at my other videos you would have also seen that if you put a new battery in all you have to do is let the vehicle sit for 8 hours and it resets on its own
I am at a loss with my 2017 Escape S. I just replaced the battery 2 days ago & did the 5 & 3 routine & the battery light only stays on. I've tried it many times with key on & the 5, 3 thing. I've watched battery light for 30 seconds & it never flashes even once. I can't afford to have the BMS charge my new battery like the 5 year old battery i just replaced.
We'll leave the vehicle turned off overnight let it sit for at least 8 hours without touching it or doing anything and that also resets the battery monitor
I did all this and the battery light never flashed. 2017 Ford Escape. Changed out battery, reset like you described in this video and battery light never blinked. Plus it will crank up but immediately drops to 500 rpms and then starts shaking really bad and will cut off completely.
@@FordBossMe It has never given me any issues until the battery died from the freezing temps here in Alabama. Do you have any idea of what it might be?? I know you would need to be able to test it yourself. Maybe just an idea what I might need to look for? No resistance in the gas pedal at all. It goes all the way to the floorboard. In another video about BMS after presssing the brake 3 times, you said power off, power on, then wait for the battery to flash 3 times. This video you didn't mention that. Which is it?
Well it's for you to pay attention and realize there's more than one way to do it and I gave you all the different ways to do it it's not that hard Captain Obvious
And the easiest way of all that I bet you didn't pay attention to is the fact that you can just replace your battery with a new one and then let it sit for 8 hours and it will reset on its own, wow it takes a lot to do that and pay attention at the same time
If it has a sensor or a clamp around the negative post it works identical except the battery light may not flash instead the check engine light will Flash
Tried this on a Fiesta, and no luck. I don’t see the BMS sensor you mention in your follow up video on the negative lead cable. Is this true on 2014 Fiesta SE 1.6NA?
The voltage regulator on these is all run by the computer and the computer uses inputs from the BMS sensor and also stored data for how long the battery has been in the vehicle without the monitor being reset
Thank you for quick reply.Well that’s what I thought but from time to time I get the message saying your battery is low and do check and my battery is totally fine just getting this s.. message(notifications)
My 2012 f150 is having a sporadic one amp draw every minute to 2 and 1/2 minutes when the key is off. With a key stuck in the ignition but not turned, the gauge lights will light up while the one amp draw is happening. I think I traced it down to some sort of+12v signal that is coming on and off and resetting either the BCM or the PCM. Any idea of the battery management system has anything to do with something like this? All I know is after sitting for two days my truck battery is dead because of this. Thanks
So you don't really have like an actual battery management system and no I don't believe the battery management system would do that sometimes the battery itself will

Hey bud. Thanks for the video. I can't get this to work on 2012 Ford Edge. I keep getting the "turn system off to save battery" prompt on the screen. Any thoughts? And my battery icon is on the left. Thanks.
Then what you should do is just let the vehicle sit for 8 hours without touching it and it will reset on its own and if I remember correctly you don't have an actual sensor on your negative battery cable so that means you don't actually have a battery monitoring system but all vehicles with a battery monitoring system if you let them sit for 8 hours on touch with a new battery it resets on its own and you actually don't need to go through the reset procedure

Not sure why the standard reseti didn't work... never got the flashing battery indication. Oh well, the 8 hour "locked and leave it alone" after battery change worked. I also made sure battery was at 100% charge before leaving it overnight to relearn the state of charge. I wish I knew why the procedure wouldn't work but I guess it's moot point now.
Thanks this worked and very easy as you stated. It seem to work on my 2019 ford Fusion Hybrid in both options whether it is 5 high beam 3 brakes or if you add the turn off and turn back on I got battery indicator 3 flashes. Thanks again for the information, be blessed.
I replaced the battery in my 2014 Explorer Sport, and the owners manual just said to basically idle it with the AC on for 30 mins, then drive it. Thats it. Do I have a BMS as well? Runs fine....
Look at the negative terminal on your battery if you do not have a sensor attached directly to it then you don't have it
I have a 2020 F-150 that the auto start stop quit working did your little trick and it worked! High beams 5 times then 3 brake application and the battery light flashed after about 5 seconds.... next time I drive will see if it worked!

My 2011 ford explorer doesn’t have the battery light illuminated on the dash. But I get that darn system off to save batter.

I've tried this on my 2022 Lightning after repeated 12V battery issues. It worked. Now I'm just gonna have to wait and see if it solves y issues long term or if I'm gonna need to swap out a new 12V battery.

Does that airbag sensor lit up in cluster just before (maybe a week or two) battery fail sound like it was by design?

@tonys1064 it's just a finicky electrical system
Thanks for the info share FBM. 🔧
BMS reset worked on my 2019 Edge ST.
Bms
How do you know when that sensor needs replacing? I think mine is killing batteries…
great advise. Do you have any knowledge of when the battery may be draining for no apparent reason. Alternator checks out good, band new battery that keeps draining. Ive checked all of the lights and anything that may have been left on but cant find why its draining after sitting. Is it a battery reset issue? I started noticing after replacing the battery. 2010 ford fusion sport 3.5 v6 Thanks great video.
Could be many things
You'll have to set up a amp draw test and keep pulling fuses
Having the same issue with the 2011 3.5 ff sport. Replaced the alternator and battery... headlights looked they were about to turn off on my way home..darker and darker lol
Outstanding, thanks bud! Works fine on my 2016 Ford Escape! 👍
On a side note....does the anti-collision warning that comes up on the dash controlled by the same module as start/stop??
No
My 2013 Edge was flashing the check charging system. The alternator checked out fine so I replaced the battery. I didnt know the battery monitor system needed to be reset. The check charging system light is still flashing. Will resetting the battery monitor system fix this?
You mentioned the Maverick, I've got a 1973 Maverick. Will it work on it or do I just have to check the voltage regulator/alternator?
bms never existed until 2012 and newer vehicles...a 73 maverick doesnt even have a computer or diagnostic system....its ancient old ass technology

Awesome. Great info. Many thanks.
Or you can just replace the battery with a new one and let it sit for 8 hours and it will reset on its own
If doing the high beams and break didn’t make my battery light flash would there be an issue with my sensor?
Will I need a code for the radio ? I have a Ford Mondeo/ Fusion. My stop start doesn’t work, my heated windscreen doesn’t work and There are old phones on my sync system that just will not delete

2019 Edge SEL. Replaced battery with H6 AGM battery by Interstate, because the auto start/stop did not work. Did not care about that feature much but wanted to know WHY it did not work. After replacing battery and resetting the BMS with the headlight/brake switch procedure, it works now. (Dealer at my 4500 mile oil change said my battery was somewhat weak.)
Anyway, with my AlphaMX OBD code reader my charge voltage regulates well, but at 13.5 volts. I have driven the Edge to southern Arkansas no problem.

Dumb question-would not resetting the BMS cause charging problems with the alternator and battery?
Not really
Does this procedure happen when you replace the battery or when you install a incorrect battery? . Like on certain jaguars and BMWs if you do not install it AGM battery you cannot program it to the vehicle which throws up codes left and right everywhere across the whole board looks like a Christmas tree 🤔🙄
That's why I like my 98 ford e250 nothing Smart here to get all weird
You said this kind of odd it's hard for me to follow
Yeah it's going to reset the battery monitor no matter what so even if it's the incorrect battery it's going to reset it the vehicle doesn't know whether or not it's thing correct battery on the more basic battery monitor systems like Ford has
@@FordBossMe makes sense I would think it wouldn't matter if it's AGM or flooded as long as the BMS is reset it's all good
I just replaced the battery in my wife’s 2014 Taurus SEL 3.5 I went to do the BMS reset like you told us about but I think the battery light is out it doesn’t come on with the key in the on position
Silly question but can theses lights/bulbs be replaced? Also is common to hear a clicking sound when hitting the high beams ( not the switch but under hood) didn’t have anyone to listen to it when I did it
Thanks
Your car might not even have a battery monitor system, just let the vehicle sit for 8 hours overnight on its own and it will reset on its own if it does without touching it

Will this work on a 2011 power stroke. I must be doing something wrong.
I hardwired a radar detector onto my Toyota. After that when I started the car it would turn off 2 seconds later. The car was in anti-theft mode. I had to physically with the key unlock the outside car door and lock it and unlock then the car started fine without shutting off.

did not work for my 2012 Explorer...tried numerous times. Cars and I do not get along so not surprising. Just installed a new battery.
Buddy that's probably because you're 2012 Explorer doesn't have a battery monitor system as I've said in the other four videos that I've had people keep not following directions because they don't check to see if they actually have the system that they're trying to perform this on
And if you would have looked at my other videos you would have also seen that if you put a new battery in all you have to do is let the vehicle sit for 8 hours and it resets on its own
@@FordBossMe I did not see your other videos. Thanks for the heads up.
Works on the new 2.0 Maverick! Thanks!
I did all this and the battery light never flashed. 2017 Ford Escape. Changed out battery, reset like you described in this video and battery light never blinked. Plus it will crank up but immediately drops to 500 rpms and then starts shaking really bad and will cut off completely.
You have a different issue going on

If it has a sensor or a clamp around the negative post it works identical except the battery light may not flash instead the check engine light will Flash
Tried this on a Fiesta, and no luck. I don’t see the BMS sensor you mention in your follow up video on the negative lead cable. Is this true on 2014 Fiesta SE 1.6NA?
Then you don't have it
So this BMS regulates system charge and not the regulator in the alternator?
The voltage regulator on these is all run by the computer and the computer uses inputs from the BMS sensor and also stored data for how long the battery has been in the vehicle without the monitor being reset
