I’m a 60 year old grandma and work on most all my stuff on my farm. Battery went out after 5 1/2 years. Went to AutoZone after neighbor jumped me, and bought battery. Guy said Professional install only, I said no, do you have tools? He got them installed my battery and my AC was not blowing cold so immediately I thought hmmm, got to reset something! I did the light and brake thing and wallah! !

My husband passed away last year, he fixed our vehicles himself. This happened to my 2011 explorer about 7 years ago. My husband fixed it, but I didn't pay attention to how he fixed it. I did remember why though, this came up on the screen 'System Off To Save Battery'. Well this happened in that same 'Ford Explorer' today...UGH!. So, I typed in YT, reset battery system on Fords and picked your video. "It worked" on this 2011 Ford Explorer Limited (hope this helps others). I want to express my heart felt appreciation for your video. Thank you ever so much Sir👍🏻. Bless you

Put in a new battery yesterday in my 2018 F150. Just did the high beams x5 and brake x3 and it did confirm the reset with the flashing battery light. Thanks Ford Boss!

Worked great!! 2015 F150 XLT - turn on ignition (don't start) - cycle high beams 5X then brake pedal 3X and battery light just to the right of the total mileage display with blink a couple of times and then turn off. All functions seem to be working as expected. Thanks for the video!

I'm having a issue where my 21 2.7 software won't update and it drains battery. I've fully charged it but don't see the battery light after light/brake tip. I hear the tones with the lights but nothing after. Do I hold the brake on 3 and wait?

I’m sticking with Toyota. More money upfront but less in maintenance and repairs. Too much junk on these that can go wrong. Toyotas also have way more room to work in the engine bay and their engineers make maintenance way easier.

The 2021-2022 F150 is SO Much more than the typical F150 refresh of the past. Nobody believed Ford when they said something like 77% of the truck was changed. Well now we know. I realize not everyone embraces the addition of so much technology, but once Ford irons out their OTA snafus and the technicians get some seat time with FDRS on them, they really are amazing vehicles.

There was a time when the only thing a key did was supply power to the coil. You stepped on a peddle to engage the starter with the flywheel and close the circuit with the battery. Everything after that has been trouble!

I have a 2019 Ford Fusion SEL. The battery was replaced by AAA. Of course, they have no knowledge or awareness of a BMS reset. I did exactly what you said - turn ignition on, flash high beam 5x, pump brake 3x, and the battery symbol flashed within 10 seconds. It worked smoothly. Thank you for the advice. But I don't know why Ford doesn't give owners a tip sheet for this and other problems I can fix easily myself.
I'd like to share another tip for a WIFI reset (when the wifi suddenly becomes inoperable).
    WiFi reset procedure:
    Step 1
    1. Turn engine off
    2. Open driver door, lock car, then close door
    3. Two brief horn signals confirm the reset step, then:
    Step 2
    1. Engage remote start on Ford Pass app
    2. Engine start will confirm signal operation and Wi-Fi will now be working.
The wifi signal may take a minute or more for it to appear, so don't be dismayed at first!
I know it sounds crazy but it works for me. Again, my vehicle is a 2019 Ford Fusion SEL. Not sure about other models.
    Good luck!

And on what planet do you think triple a doing all that for a simple battery change 😂 in the handbook on the little tablets they have , it doesn’t mention the reset needed cause it’s not like a bmw needing a separate program for registering with the bms and ecm lol
Tell triple a to pay more for training and pay its people more and just maybe you’ll get that lol

A little bit of warning about connecting the battery cables together to discharge capacitors and clear the computer. You should use a resistor between them to, SLOWLY, discharge which will eliminate any possible damage to the computers. Leave it connected for maybe 15 minutes

It's nice that Ford has incorporated a user friendly option to using the factory scan tool, hope this type of option will be included in the user manual / driver handbook. I really do believe there are engineers that would like the customer happy in the long term, it's part of building a good vehicle.
Over the past few years, I've run into problems after the customer opts to save a few dollars and buys a cheaper battery from the local parts store. Again, it's HIS wallet that is involved here. I just want him to be happy, and choose us again when it's time to tend to his vehicle. We don't just flop a battery in, it takes a few minutes to be sure that all of those undervolt faults are cleared from the various modules, the connections are secure, the charging system is up to par...
Not uncommon to see problems after a quick swap of the battery, as the charging system is digitally controlled these days. I don't like to see a customer return, as a tow-in, because the alternator is not properly charging that battery he just paid for...plus a tow bill.

Even though the battery is removed. The Circuitry can hold a charge that will keep logic switches from reseting,ie, going back to defalt, in other words, memory is held. These drive by wire vehicles now have thousands of capacitors with diodes, unlike older vehicles that operated on 5 volts, now the computer and other electronics components operates on millivolt and milliamps, to protect this delicate circuitry, electronics, and computer, isolation even from static has been incorporated. Tiny Capacitors holding a charge is on of the problems. Draining these capacitors is sometimes the key to reseting components. After battery is out and even though there are In line fuses with diodes on the battery cables, connect the positive and negative cables together, also connect the chassis to earth by a wire connected to ground, like a metal fence post, or hammer a pipe a foot or so in the ground. The vehicles itself being isolated by those rubber tires is one big capacitor holding charges that has no exit to drain, to be depleted. If all else fails do this for a day or two. Yes this might sound crazy, but sometimes it works.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah so this vehicle actually has the technology that when you replace the battery it actually looks for a reset after a 8 hour sleep with nobody touching the vehicle so replace the battery leave the vehicle alone for at least 8 hours with the doors locked and it resets itself or you can go through my procedure of flashing the high beams and hitting the brake pedal to reset it

Thank you! The systems message has been worrying my wife. 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. She says it msgs her when she starts car. Just did the 5+3 and a message on dash said it was reset! Note this BMS nag happened first, before suv was year old, car went completely dead, managed to get it to dealership, they said nothing wrong and battery good. Four months ago dealership also checked said no problems. Sounds like system is a little too critical .

Question - I disabled my start stop feature using forscan on my 2018 f150. Does anyone know if this negatively effects the charging circuit to the 7 pin trailer connector? I got an error message "trailer not charging". I've never towed a trailer until recently so I'm not sure if the error is related to the start stop being disabled or if it's something else?

I had to have my battery changed to it wouldn’t start this morning, our only vehicle, husband works at local sheriff department so being a no show is not good. Anyway the message center is now saying that the parking brake is malfunctioning any idea what that my be? I tried the headlight reset several times, no go so I’m letting it set for 8 hrs to see if bms will reset itself. Heres hoping, if you have any ideas about the emergency brake thing please let me know. Again thank you for your help

Hey man, I have a 2022 F150 Shelby truck that was garaged for a few month. The car had no power when I tried to turn it on. No lights when I open the door, no remote unlocking so I had to open the door with the key, push button does nothing etc etc... I put tender on it (clamped on pos and neg posts of battery) and it gives me an Err message, but when I clamp the positive end of tender on POS post of battery and ground the neg end on the truck body it tells me the battery is completely charged. I tried jumping the truck, the moment I put jumper on the truck, power is back and it started, but only for a few seconds and then it shut off on its own. There is fuel in the truck and I doubt the alternator is broke since it is a barely one year old truck... could BMS be a factor in this situation? Going to pull the battery out later today and see if the battery is really the issue. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just had a problem with this device; I bought and installed a Wagan Tech inverter to my Ford Rager 2023; 3.2 diesel automatic 6 speed, made in Argentina. (Best light pick up I have ever own). The thing is that the voltage would go up and down after a few minutes in operation. I spent several hours trying different things. Suddenly I tried disconnecting this device and then the car stopped doing that and kept the voltage in 13.9 volts.
My question is: How important is this device? I mean this one of the supposedly great improvements we have in the cars that only causes problems, We put too much technology in minor things, I am a car electrician and the old charging system works just well enough. Please advice according to your knowledge. Thanks and I think you have a great channel.

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart cause this video helped me so much. I'm not a mechanic, but I rely on TH-cam to diy a lot of fixes pertaining to vehicles. I have a 2016 Ford f150 and I needed to Chand my ignition coil and spark plug on cylinder 3 so I disconnected my negative just so I can verify after I do that if the problem is fixed the check engine light will reset. Well when I buttoned every thing back up the only thing that was on was the lights on my dash. My key fob didn't even work. Well thanks to your video you helped me resolve the issue. The method I used was disconnected the negative and turn the headlights off, but immediately I turned them back on and reconnected the negative and once the negative touched the terminal the horn beep and everything came on and functioned properly. Sorry for such a long comment but this is appreciated!

Im not old or anti technology. But the older " junk" cars of yesterday seem to be better then the new stuff. The manufacturers come out with all this flashy new stuff and iron out the bugs on customers dime/time. I was completely happy with my old 05 5.4 3v 7 lug f150. Sure it was slower then the replacement 20' and thirsty er ( though not much more thirsty, but MUCH slower then the 20' 5.0 😊). But at least it didnt freak out from me taking the battery terminals off. Im installing a subwoofer on my 20' 5.0. And now that i put the terminals back on i get a CEL and blind cross traffic error 🤦‍♂️. Just what i needed. And this battery monitoring system is 🙄. Oh man how can tech be so dumb? These rest periods and stuff are ridiculous. I saw a vid on YT where the mechanic was saying the charginging system in his 21' f150 was going crazy because he had a short daily commute. So u buy a 65k plus truck and now u have to make sure u drive 30min to work? My 91 turbo charged escort has never given me any charging trouble. I drive 6 miles ea way to work with stock alt and subs in the hatch. And dont go anywhere long distance for most part. Never had any charging issues or battery. Going one step newer. My moms 11 ford edge usually doesnt leave the town 90% of the time. 6 to 15 miles a day. Multi stops, as she shops. Never had a battery issue.
They are driving up the price of new cars with tech that doesnt work. In my opinion. Now i goi going to go buy forscan. So i dont have jump through these hoops for stupid little things

    Great! video
    I have a 2019 Bullitt.
The car gets very little use, only 8k on the odometer.
During Covid I put the car on a tender just for safety sake, no issues
Speed up 2 years, again just for safety sake I put the car back onto the same tender.
The status light went to green in about 12hours.
A day or two after that I entered the car for the 1st. time and the message came up regarding the system going into power saving mode.
I did the process you speak clearly of and so far the system is back on track.
Do you think that putting the car on the tender and topping off the battery could have confused the BMS?
Anyway, hopefully the system is ok now.
If I understood your dialogue correctly, I believe that you mention that the BMS could have triggered the message due to time and not necessarily the real condition of the battery.
Just like you get a service light that triggers by time and not actual miles.
In other words you can change your oil today and not drive the car for a year and the change oil light will come on.
I think car companies do the time method just to get you in more often for service.
BTW. our local Ford dealership charges $400.00 per hour labor rate.
Our local AUDI/Porsche dealership charges $280.00 per hour.
    What's up with that LOL?
    Thanks.

How did you hook up the tender? If you just did positive to positive and negative to negative, the BMS never sees the voltage. You need to hook pos to pos and neg to a ground that is not the neg terminal. It can be on the other side of the terminal. Another youtuber describes it in detail and I've tested/he's definitely correct. So in a sense, you're charging the battery, the battery know's it, but the vehicle does not.

For everyone's reference, there are two things here - the vehicles state of charge which monitors how many volts the battery has (the 8 hour thing) and the vehicles battery time in service (the 3-5 year thing) Replacing a battery needs the time in service reset performing, Rick's pedal dance is great if it works for you, Ford's IDS system can do it and so can Forscan.
