    • @kathyrais574
      @kathyrais574 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      And from all I have heard & read, there were no hard feelings when it came to playing leads. Allen & Gary basically learned to play at same time, taught each other before they were in band together, that's one reason they play off each other so well. Ironically, when Allen 1st started playing, he wanted to play rhythm guitar, not lead.
      Ed was great as well. They all did their thing & never stepped on toes, whatever was best for the band's sound.
      Then Steve came along, just as good IMO as Ed but he just didn't get the time to prove himself to the masses but he would have been huge.
      He sounded diff than Ed & brought vitality back to Gary & Allen. Everything was fresh again. He could also sing & write so triple threat. G & A were so happy when Steve joined, they went though songs, we did them as far as who would play what. It had been just the 2 of them after Ed left them high & dry so they were used to doin it all but they knew Skynyrd was it's best with the 3 guitar army & best 3 guitar army ever iMO. Love these guys

      I agree with you there son. Rossington played about all the memorable guitar licks and Collins would come in and play unmatchable 10 minute solos! I can't separate them in my mind...they play off each other like they're one. Like Jimmy Page with 4 hands lol. When I share my list of top guitarists, I always list Rossington/Collins as one. You can't have one without the other imo. Steve Gaines is great, but he's no Ed King. There's more to playing with Skynyrd than speed. He would have learned though, he just needed to be "Skynyrdized" a little more.

      like with every famous singer there are likely many people right now who can sing exactly like him but there's always something that gets in the way of hiring the perfect replacement, in this case family. Right now there is at least one guy who can sing exactly like Layne Staley, Ive heard him on yt but for whatever reason AIC keeps the black guy who sings very well but sounds nothing like Layne. It's a shame, an established great band is a rarity and when a component is lost, the replacement should be as close to the original as possible, identical would be ideal.

      Love his energy conserving style to lol. No need to compromise the voice at show with dancin a jig for the crowd. Grab the mic and sing you badass.

      I learned guitar riffs but became a bassist with Leon W as the main influence. NOBODY could walk like Leon. That smell is Am and he's blues walking! All brilliant musicians.

    I was at this concert. I lived in Ocean Grove that summer. I remember lots of rebel flags in the crowd and people passing around drinks in big glass unmarked jugs.
    I also remember being almost deaf when we got out. My date and I were shouting at each other on the boardwalk because we couldn't hear a thing. It was a great show.

    I am the guitar player I am today because of this band! I was 10 years old when I first heard the band, lighted a fire under my ass! I'm a, no pun intended, "a simple man" and because of these guys, In the 80'S I was able to play my guitar along with a 9 to 5 job and support my family, those times were tough but because I learned to play guitar from these guys I was capable of supporting my family and for that, I thank you!!

      I always knew they had great riffs and some epic solos but after stumbling onto this concert today, I have a new level of respect for those guitarists along with the rest of the band. Between this concert and your comment, I'm definitely feeling inspired to go pick up my guitar and learn the tabs for every song on this setlist!! 🤘
