      Just a couple things to note. Your performance figures look a little low. I've got a minor undervolt on my 2060, and I'm getting higher scores.
      www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/id97ot/a_65w_2060_that_competes_with_a_110w_2060/
      Undervolting is a must since the GPU is hard capped to 65W and it puts this in the league of 95-110W variants which would shift your charts a little. I don't go much higher than 72*.
      Also there is a new BIOS (218) that changes the fan profiles. Your temps are also really high. You may want to check the heat sink screws. I had 2 that were a little loose from the factory. I NEVER see 100*.
      Also, also, if you go 24GB, only the first 16GB is dual channel.
      For the fingerprint sensor, you need to register the same finger twice....or just buy a kensington plug in fingerprint sensor.
      Also, eGPUs cap out around a 2060 level performance. Someone just tested a 3080 in an eGPU enclosure on a 9900K laptop and it performed SLOWER than the native 1080 in the laptop. So no, TB3 will not future proof it lol.
      And of course, you can only get the r9/2060 in white in the US without the LEDs. However, there are now skins available to color or pattern swap that out such as this: i.etsystatic.com/25688917/r/il/855e86/2607824954/il_794xN.2607824954_8oyx.jpg
      Cheers.

    i have one of these, and i mostly agree with your points, exept that for me no integrated webcam was no prob (a external one was included in the box) and i love the keyboard backlight (i have the dark-grey version so the white light on dark grey is a bigger contrast), 2 more negative points: 1. is the placement of the usb-A's, when plugging in a mouse the cable of the mouse is always in the way 2. per default there is an issue with the speakers of this laptop(have heard so from multiple people) they sometimes randomly "pop". I could fix this by turning off audio enhancement pretty easily after some research, but in general i think this is a problem where the fix shouldn't require extra diagnostics and research by the enduser. (i got the machine in early june, maybe there was an update since then where this was fixed without me realizing)

    honestly, anything over $2000 shouldn't even be compared to this particular model.
    it fills the charts with outlier junk data since, let's be real, people shopping at this price point most likely aren't considering anything above 2k

    • @GizmoSlipTech
      @GizmoSlipTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The laptops I used in the charts are the laptops I've reviewed and have undergone the exact same benchmarks and identical testing methodology. It allows me to more accurately compare performance between machines, but I haven't reviewed laptops in a while, so some of them are a bit outdated, etc. The charts will improve as I review more of the latest laptops.

    There is a registry tweak you can enable on this laptop that reduces the CPU temps A LOT! I mean, I never see mine go over 75c. I'm gunna have this laptop for YEARS. I love it! Best $1400 dollars I have ever spent! Asus seriously killed the competition with the machine. I also love the build quality, and how solid it is. Props to not having a "gamer" look to it as well. @Omar Olwy Not yet bro!!As in UK the situation is little tricky as Asus for some weird reason not selling the most relevant variant which is 120HZ screen (FHD) with R9 4900 HS which is a shame and forcing consumer to buy a higher variant with WQHD(2K) screen which got only 60HZ refresh rate and hence not suitable for fast paced gaming!!!HP got its own set of problem here in UK as they are still only selling the highest variant with i7 10th gen Intel and no AMD variant is still available!!!Seems all OEM are taken it on themselves to uplifting INTEL by any means which is again a shame!!!The pandemic is adding to the woes and the shipment is slower than usual due to that...So long story short,I am still waiting for the right moment to make my move!!!😊 Going by different Review on TH-cam,what I can say is if you are a big fan of cutting edge design and small compact form factor and can live with loud fan noise specially gaming or graphics intensive tasks, should go for Asus G14,if you are too concerned about your laptop thermals and prefer quieter, less toasty laptop inbuilt webcam,more Orthodox kind of keyboard layout with nice RGB color and last but not least better screen refresh rate as per spec available , choice is yours!!😊

      I currently have both the HP Omen 2020 (en0023dx) and the G14 (GA401IV). I too was comparing these two and wanted to get hands on with both since there are very little in depth reviews on the new omen. I’m a casual gamer, engineer (CAD), and mobile DJ. So performance isn’t my everything, but I appreciate not buying a laptop every year or two that will perform well and has great build. That said remarks below are after having each for only a day, will get more into them tonight.
      Omen screen is crazy dim (I think like 250 nits) keyboard is nice with backlight that works great. Body and lid have more flex than I like, but using this indoors on a desk all the time would be totally fine.
      G14 tons of reviews on this already but leaning more toward this if I can get thermals to a comfortable level. Build quality is great especially since I am out and about as a DJ with my laptop up on a stand sometimes surrounded by drunk people. Setting it up and installing some programs/running chrome and the cpu/gpu stayed cool but the underside and keyboard got warmer than I’d like for such little load. Looks like a bunch of fixes are around for thermals on this so going to see what I can do tonight.
      Let me know if either of you have questions about either laptop in the next day or two while I still have them both.

    huh, your cinebench score is a bit lower than mine for some reason... I have the same laptop, except I scored 4316 instead of 3570. Could that possibly be because of the custom fan curve I set in Armoury Crate?

    • @GizmoSlipTech
      @GizmoSlipTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That is because the Cinebench R20 score I have there is the throttled score for all the laptops. That means if you run it in a continuous loop for a sustained load. It gives you the power limit of the CPU and the true workload ablity when rendering, processing stuff. I got a similar score around 4350ish on the first run only, and then the heat and power limits kick in and reduces it down.

I have tried every tweak under the sun from a bios upgrade, uninstalling and reinstalling the Goodrix drivers, to removing and redoing the fingerprints, to using the same finger for multiple finger set ups, to moving the finger around, the fact is for me and many others, it is buggy and works only sometimes. This is despite the fact that I have a Samsung Book Flex sitting right next to it that scans my finger perfectly on the first try with whatever position my finger is in.
      Regardless, I still love the machine, I have a replacement coming later today so I'm going to see if it does the fingerprint better, but even if it doesn't, it so low on my list of priorities I'll just use a PIn if need be.

      I actually edited this video on that Asus Zephyrus. It was great to edit the video on the go. Didn’t have a problem with editing on adobe premiere and render time was surprisingly quick for how thin and light this is. It is hot to work with on your lap so just mostly edited on the desk. Screen color was accurate so no problem with color grading. I’m use to a ultra wide desktop screen for editing videos so it took me a bit to get use to a 15” screen but it’s manageable!

    • @Fisustin

      By "charges" do you mean that it can get the full power out of USB-C* or just that you can also top up the battery when not using it with USB-C as well as run Chrome, Excel and other regular office applications with it?
      If latter, is fine, for example Razer Blade 15 allows USB-C charging. However you won't be getting full gaming power without the power adapter.
      *(current maximum practical for USB-C charging is 65-100W so for a gaming laptop with strong CPU and GPU at full power, this just isn't enough to run it)

    I almost decided to give this review a thumbs down due to it inaccurately depicting what the device is made of. It is NOT plastic, it is a magnesium-aluminum alloy. However, since the video is so well done and thorough and the fact that the build quality conclusion was accurate, I resisted lol. The video should be edited so people are not mislead who might be sensitive to that.
    Another point that people should be aware of that has been pointed out in another review that was actually discovered by others a few weeks ago is that one can easily just follow the following short video, you don't have to be technical, and literally lower your temps by 20 degrees Celsius with a very minimum performance hit, especially from a FPS perspective which I've extensively tested, as well as many others. Here is that video that deserves the credit which is tied to disabling boost. The only difference between what this video did and what I did is that I modified the Performance Mode instead of creating a new power profile which for the games I play is a perfect balance between heat, performance, and fan noise. This tweek really is a small miracle :-).
    th-cam.com/video/fSgwSidKgCo/w-d-xo.html
    Other than that, this review is spot on with the pros and cons. The Pros far outweigh the cons unless you are an eSport gamer, but for most others, or people who play RPGs, or MMORPGS, and want to game on a lap desk on their couch, this is one of the best devices out there in such a small form factor :-).

    • @GizmoSlipTech
