I remember hearing this song driving home after the doctor told me my mother had terminal cancer. It seemed like the world should have stopped but ppl kept on walking and talking as I drove by like it was an ordinary day! Its been years. I miss her so much, but I'm still here! Representing my mom, keeping her alive in my ❤. Great reaction as always.

Probably one of the most perfectly produced songs ever made. I loved this when it was new, and 30 years on, I love it just as much.Another song from this era that I love (and fell in love to) was 'Out of My Mind (Perfecto Mix)' - It's perfecto alright.

I've always loved this song and this post came at the right time for me. I just found out this morning that my Grandfather passed away. So, my memories of him are in the forefront in my mind. I know he is finally where he wanted to be and he's at peace. So, I hold on to that and just remember the smart, funny and goofy person he was. Rest in Heaven Grandpa. 💖

This song came out as I was getting ready to leave my twenties and enter my thirties and I bought the single cassette tape. It was a bad time for me. The good times of recent years had faded away. Friends had moved away or just moved on. The vibe of this song reflected my mood at the time. My feeling was generally feeling out of place and no where to go. But eventually things got better and I met new people.

It's funny that you mentioned that, I was thinking the exact same thing before I scrolled down the comments. I truly believe one of biggest differences between the kids of today and our generation is the messages that we received from our music and entertainment, not denying we didn't have some messed up stuff, we REALLY did, but I believe the 90's ended up being the pinnacle of music, and entertainment, in general. There has been some really good stuff since then but I can see a clear difference in the effect that it has on society.

You're interpretations of the song were very good and meaningful. The lead singer, Simon LeBon, actually wrote the song after a friend's suicide. After the funeral, he was looking through photos of them together and wondering how he would be able to move on and "survive" without his friend (the line "where's my friend when I need you most" was his mindset). After that, he started interpreting all the other meanings it could have and incorporated it into this song, which was kind of their comeback song in early 1992 (they had a massive falling off from their 80s heyday).

They began pretty pop-y and easy listen but even from the start some songs stood up. But by the time they made this album they decided go fully embrace their artistic ambitions. The mood of the early 90s was that music had to have meaning, as a reaction to the bubblegum shallowness of the music scene in the 80s.

This was 90's Duran Duran (1993 to be exact) and you can see how their sound has evolved since the eighties. One of the great things about them is that they are versatile and not afraid to change it up which is probably why they are still selling out arenas around the world and still making new music! I agree with Amber, this is a song open to interpretation but it’s definitely about getting over some type of loss! They are my favorite band since the eighties and I will always be a Duranie!💖💖

Simon's lyrics are often deep and profound. This was apparently written after a friend's suicide. There's a maturity to this one. Not that their other music wasn't. It was very mature considering how young they were in the 80's, bit these are guys in their 30's---husbands, fathers. So growth has occurred. This is my favorite 90s song of theirs. Just so sad and poignant. Also, it's a crowd pleaser when they do it live.

The song is about dealing with the loss of Le Bon's childhood friend, David Miles, who passed away from an overdose. Ordinary World (1992) is part 2 of a trilogy about Miles. Part 1 was written after Miles' passing & the song is called Do You Believe In Shame? (1988). Le Bon felt some guilt about not being there for his friend at the time. And part 3 concludes with the track Out Of My Mind (1997), which is also in the motion picture The Saint w/Val Kilmer. All three songs helped Le Bon grieve & get through his loss as much as he could.
