    Thank you! I kept looking for the wire in the radio harness that goes positive when you shift into reverse, but couldn't find it. It totally makes sense to power the camera off the reverse lights and send the positive signal back to the head unit through the wire attached to the video wire. Nobody ANYWHERE explained that, until I watched your video. Thank you, and keep on making great videos! BTW my truck is a 2009 f-350, I'm installing one of those 10" cheap amazon touchscreens, and so far it works pretty good.

    Hi Jay, very informative vid. just to clarify, I should be splicing the red to a switch wire from the radio harness? Also, was your switch wire from your radio harness just a single wire?

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, just a single wire that when it had current, signals the radio to switch to camera input

  • @wavelengthdesigns
    @wavelengthdesigns 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Kind of wish you'd covered how the wire routes into the cabin, but I guess I'll have to figure it out when I'm in there. Don't really want to pay a shop to do this.

    So is the reverse signal wire coming from the harness on the head unit only connected to the red wire from the camera or does it also connect to other preexisting wiring on the truck?

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a video cable with one positive red wire. One end is connected to the vehicles reverse wiring and the camera itself while one end is connected to the head unit. This ensures that when the vehicle is in reverse, the head unit switches to camera feed, then back to radio/music when the vehicle is no longer in reverse.

    • @mudgen001
      @mudgen001 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JayThompson25 But this video shows the opposite setup, with single connection at the cam end and dual connection in the cab, doesn't it? It does say that you can do it either way but it's easier in the cab in the '05 (and presumably my '06). Off to look at head units, I have the basic OEM one with single CD and no aux even.

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mudgen001 the way my camera works is the reverse wire From the taillights/reverse powers the camera. The wire to the head unit triggers the head unit to change to the camera view.

    • @FuckYouTubeCensorship2024
      @FuckYouTubeCensorship2024 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mudgen001no, you need both the black cable with rca end is just for the video portion of the camera to send the actual picture to your headunit screen. The trigger wire at camera end taps into reverse trigger wire at taillight, headunit end the trigger wire connects to reverse wire from the headunit.

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re decent. Definitely not as good as some cameras that come factory, but a big step up if you do not have a camera to look behind you! It’s hard to believe, but the colors are actually pretty good indicator of distance to a object 👍

    Can you tell me which wire you tap into to get the positive to the camera I have 07 xlt short bed supercrew or show me the set up you did if you still have truck

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So best way I can explain it is to wire your camera itself into the positive reverse wire in the tailight. This will power the camera when in reverse. Of course you will need to ground that as well, where you do that is up to you (frame or another ground wire) then you run your video cable with the red wire attached, (has to have the red wire to trigger switch) to the head unit. You then find the wire for the backup camera on the back of the head unit. You connect it and the red wire together to trigger the head unit to switch to camera feed when in reverse. Hope this helps!

    • @JayThompson25

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might be the head unit rather than the connection. Most head units will switch immediately as soon as 12v is supplied from the reverse lights, but yours might require the cam button to be pushed
