Well, done… Under the right circumstances, with the right kind of wind, it can be done with one person, but it’s extremely difficult… Much easier with two… In addition, it helps to move one’s weight onto the bow that’s in the water to create drag, thus allowing the wind to turn the boat 180° so that the mast is facing into the wind, prior to attempting to right the boat…
Also, you need to make sure that the righting lines go outside of the hull, to maximize your leverage…
For what is worth, it’s also a great idea to grab the dolphin striker as the boat comes up, to make sure that it doesn’t go back over onto the other side…Ask me how I know …😬

Ya, that old righting line didn’t stretch that far. Finally replaced it with a new one.

That black strap you were holding on to should be run outside of the side shrouds. Then instead of pulling on it from under the pontoon, you grab it from over top of the pontoon and pull on it that way.
Notice how when you grabbed the rope from the top of the hull the boat came up? If you do the black strap the same way she'll pop right up!

Looks like you had some fun and thanks for posting. Next time release the main and jib sheets and it will stand back up a lot easier!

Thanks! We actually had the lines released but our righting lines aren't long enough to give us good leverage on the boat so its difficult to right.

I just got back from Saint Lucia and before my trip I knew not a thing about sailing then I took a lesson and off I went. I sailed everyday. My instructors showed me how to right a smaller 14 foot Hobbie and the rope went over the pontoon and it was fairly easy to right. Is the 16 footer that much more difficult to right? It seems that with the way you had the strap your were not getting maximum leverage. Then again I know next to nothing. Just trying to learn more. Thanks for posting. Looks like you were having a great time.
