You eventually nailed it, but I do believe you need a bit of practice! Good job making it happen with no outside assistance! If you can measure the height that the bag needs to be in order to begin the righting process, get a carabiner clip and tie it to the proper spot on the bag's rope. Leave the rope threaded through the pulley so all you have to do is shackle it to the corner post. This way you can pull the rope through the pulley and clip it onto the post in the dolphin striker and ensure that the bag is lifted to the proper height every time. No knots, no guesswork

Maybe somehow rig the righting line and bag in the parking lot prior to water? Took approx. 9 minutes after capsizing before you were ready to use the bag. Good video though and useful information.
I went out today by myself on my 45 year old hobie 16. It was gusty 15 - 25 knots or so. I mounted a mast bob this morning since I'm not sure my mast is water tight. Good thing I did because I capsized a little before sunset. I tried and tried. I'm 180lbs. I filled a garbage bag with about 80 lbs of water and slung it over my shoulder - didn't work. Finally a power boat felt pity for me and pulled me upright. I'm still not warm yet hours later as I type this... I'm frustrated. I'm thinking of trying a righting pole next.. It looks like I'm going to have to create that myself.
@@knpstrr Quit trying because I have a H14 so I just started sailing that instead. Tacking the 14 sucks though, and it always wants to pitch pole when the wind is high!
Physics fail...you are still acting on the same fulcrum ...being side of the pontoon or the trampoline frame where the righting rope touches before it attaches to you or your hand.
Well done...did the same thing yesterday but had to be towed back to the dock slowly where my wife lifted the mast two feet out of the water for me and up it went with no bag. I will definitely be getting a bag now..... Do you think a mast float would help ?
Two years later… Yes a mast float is the best insurance against turtling which makes life a lot harder should that happen. I used a tetherball at the top of the mast that dangled a little bit. The cost of a tetherball is hardly worth mentioning.

I noticed that your feet are on the wrong place while trapezing they should be on the side of the trampoline instead of on top of the hulls.
You could use a second pulley to reduce the wait of the bag by half on your hand.
I picked up a second-hand 4:1 - much easier for solo righting

Why not simply hook a rope on the trapeze line? Now, you are pulling from the top of the mast. I do that on my boat and it is very easy, even solo.

Yes I dont sail without the bag anymore... Not sure about mast float. If you get quickly on the hulls it will prevent boat to turtle.
