Interesting fact: because back in the dev when they test Fox-3 they use AIM-120B on the F-16. So even right now all US 13.0 get AIM-120A and there are actually a AIM-120B on the Tornado, these AIM-120A on US planes still have a "AIM-120B" marking on its model

Considering how dominant FOX-3s are, it's fucking criminal that FOX-1s aren't part of the stock kit. The F-15C comes with a pair of AIM-9Ms (rather than a full loadout of them) as stock, but even that's barely enough. For your first 10 games, you're gonna be stuck groundpounding against light vehicles because you don't even get bombs stock. It's just so messy for no reason other than frustrating players into paying to skip the grind.
Its even worse for tanks. You start with HEAT and every tank has special armor that makes them nearly invulnerable to heat. The russians even have ERA that completely nullifies heat, giving them an innate advantage in every top tier game.
Playing the F15A this morning while I grinded for the C ruined my day. Impossible to get anything done other than going defensive for every lock and launch and having no ability to be offensive in the slightest. This meta is going to be brutal for any plane without ARH missiles

The smaller lobbies feature is also broken, I only got into one match that wasn't 16v16 and it was 12v12. Thanks Gaijin very cool. I think I'm going to leave top tier air RB for the time being.
How is it broken? The feature is implemented nearly the same as night battles, where you opt into the queue, but that only means there’s a chance of 12v12, you won’t be placed in an exclusively 12v12 matchmaker.

It's hollow. It should be the other way around 7v7 should be the norm and people should be able to choose to play 16v16.

love this new update, everything is broken, f15c in sim shoots out 30 flares if you click the button once, sometimes it decides to shoot out some chaff on top of the 30 flares, i'll just take that as the plane being secure and keeping me alive
Pro tip: it’s generally not ideal to fire more Fox-3s on TWS at a time(until they reach terminal homing) than your datalink can keep track of. Only really a problem on aircraft like the MiG-29SMT, Su-27SM, and J-11A. They can datalink 2, 2, 1 missiles at once respectively.

@@Kompotamus It’s probably a product of how janky TWS behaves and the missile running out of speed at range. The last time I remember TWS working properly was on the Danger Zone update. TWS nowadays on all the radars randomly veers off the enemy aircraft you are tracking, and starts tracking literally nothing. Sometimes even locks air molecules for some reason. When the TWS is being troublesome, you may prefer hard locking a target to fire the missile.

What do you expect? This game isn't a hardcore simulator, but it is based on real aircraft with real weapons systems. Modern air combat is fought with missiles. The game mode is called "Realistic Air Battles." This is what realistic air battles look like. If you don't *like* it that's OK but there is plenty of close in dogfighting to be had at other BRs, whether you go with mid-war props or early jets or 3rd gen fighters.

Even worse than the SHIFT + A, SHIFT + D changes which countermeasures are released by default (mixed/only flare/only chaff) so I died randomly 3 or 4 times shitting only chaffs against IR missiles

@@theostrichbird9021 Phoenixes are microwaved dogshit compared to the amraams, now I'm struggling with a stock F-16C without chaff, notching perfectly and flying so low that I have to dodge the local wildlife AND I STILL GET NAILED BY 3 AIM-120'S IN A ROW. Meanwhile their gameplay is to fly up at the start, lob all of their loadout in our general direction then stand up and go to the toilet, because the kills are guaranteed.

a cousin of mine told me about the outstanding capabilities of his F15. Kudos to war thunder an to you defyn, making the best out of this flight model. in real combat, the F15 had over 250 kills to 2--3 shot downs. if I were to live the dream again, I would pick an F15 (early models, not the bomb truck), a Harrier AV8-B / GRS 8, or a French Rafale. I want to stress to people. This is not DCS. You do not NEED to use TWS. TWS does not guarantee a kill. TWS is useful for finding and tracking targets without alerting them. But you can just as easily lock and launch and get kills in regular PD search mode
Tws lets you fire at multiple targets, and tws doesn’t give them an rwr warning so tws is a very good mode to be in, if you aren’t using tws in a bvr fight then you are at a disadvantage
in practice, however, it's just about as torturous as having your balls be microwaved, frozen, evaporated and liquified all at the same time. good job, reddit warrior

Yeah good luck. I’ve got it spaded and it cannot compete anymore. The lack of arh missles has essentially made it irrelevant now. Up close it can still perform, especially with r73. But the r27 is no longer top dog
The fact that so many people GE rushed to get the planes and spade them for the Fox-3's is canser, it's made the top tier experience unplayable if you are actually grinding the modules of a plane. And why the ever loving sh*t would they put a Phantom at 11.7?!
so far ive constantly been getting spiked by invisible ARH missiles, they dont show diamonds anymore above them and the multipath is definetly not 60 meters, feels more like 20
@@michaelc9155 i know that smokeless missiles were always harder to spot, but SARH and ARH missiles were visible within a few km range when the engine was already off before they would hit you, that is now completely gone
Amraams never had a long burn time, missile in wt only get the marker if the engine is burning. The older sarh and phoenix had longer burn times so the diamond is pretty much always present. @IceGuadian
I'm not sure what's been affected, but when I was flying the American av8b+, the countermeasures seemed to only give me one pop in missions. Made for a real interesting time.
I noticed the Shift-A while playing with a prop, I couldn't really find what used that binding so I just unbound most Jet related keys. With a prop it stopped me from making a left roll while still pressing shift for throttle.
Defyn not sure if you'll see this but they put the data channels that each fox 3 plane gets in the patch notes. Mostly doesn't matter but the Russian jets (SU-27SM, MIG-29SMT, J-11S) only get 2 channels so they can only guide that many missiles at a time.
It would be very beneficial for you to use manual radar controls to steer your tws radar to the right edge at 11:10. You can still use cycle targets and not full manual if that's most comfortable, also slewing up or down is needed.

@@ferrous3262 You can say the same thing about evading radar missiles too Multipathing lets you just fly under 100m in a straight line doing nothing else and the missile just goes dumb Imo theres nothing skilled about that
The thing Gaijin does wrong with multipathing is that its IRL effects are a case by case scenario. Its not a one altitude fits all. The major factor in it is the distance between radar and target. The further from the radar the target is, the higher the ceiling for multipathing, hence why fox 1 missiles were heavily affected. Fox 3 missiles solve that one issue with having their own radar so as the missile gets closer to the target so does the radar. The next factor is radar strength and scan resolution and early fox 3 missiles were severely lacking on that front. This means that they could still lose track if the target was low but the ceiling was lower. Modern missiles are almost immune to that effect. Gaijin's "one size fits all" approach is more likely so they keep the calculations and server load down since otherwise every aircraft and missile would need its own values.
I like the multipathing nerf, but it needed to come with smaller team sizes. At least people cant just fly low to be 100% safe anymore, now shit planes with decent missiles like the tornado and new harrier are actually playable.
Defyn can you share what your keybinds are for: - switching between radar modes/scopes (PD/TWS, but also radar/IRST + HMD/ACQ) - are you using a keybind to switch ranges? - locking radar targets - switching lock in TWS - cycling thru ordnance/missiles - countermeasures - anything important I'm forgetting I feel like my keybinds are a total mess after years of just shoving shit onto the M+KB. I'd like to optimize my binds to improve efficiency.
can the AIM-54C even compete with them new Fox-3 ? I'm pretty sure IRL a Phoenix would still be dangerous, but it's slower and less agile than an AIM-120A... we will see, I love the Tomcat, and I don't think I'll leave it now
At least in DCS it sort of can. AIM54 has crazy range but worse guidance than the newer missiles so if you use the range and avoid getting into range of the other missiles it can work. If you get in range of the newer stuff though, you're at a big disadvantage.
Speaking of patch-day all the laser auto-trackers are broken or non can lock-on now, and i have to manually guide the GBUs, Mavericks, Hellfires, Kh-29L ... u name it, aka any laser guided air-to ground weapons. Also i don't think the AMRAAMs can justify the high BR on planes like the AV-8B - doesn't even has data-link -, (not to mention that by the time and suffering u unlock fox3s on planes like the Tornado U'd never want to fly that plane ever again), but we'll see.
the multipath nerf would be good on high BR with most ARH, no for BR11.7 and downtier BR F-14 is getting because it only benefit F-14 because they're the sole Fox-3 user in that BR while everyone else has SARH

The altitudes they're fighting at are pretty realistic. High and fast is how modern air combat works, altitudes of 20-30,000ft are pretty normal

What do you expect? This game isn't a hardcore simulator, but it is based on real aircraft with real weapons systems. Modern air combat is fought with missiles. The game mode is called "Realistic Air Battles." This is what realistic air battles look like. If you don't *like* it that's OK but there is plenty of close in dogfighting to be had at other BRs, whether you go with mid-war props or early jets or 3rd gen fighters.

Even worse than the SHIFT + A, SHIFT + D changes which countermeasures are released by default (mixed/only flare/only chaff) so I died randomly 3 or 4 times shitting only chaffs against IR missiles

@@theostrichbird9021 Phoenixes are microwaved dogshit compared to the amraams, now I'm struggling with a stock F-16C without chaff, notching perfectly and flying so low that I have to dodge the local wildlife AND I STILL GET NAILED BY 3 AIM-120'S IN A ROW. Meanwhile their gameplay is to fly up at the start, lob all of their loadout in our general direction then stand up and go to the toilet, because the kills are guaranteed.

a cousin of mine told me about the outstanding capabilities of his F15. Kudos to war thunder an to you defyn, making the best out of this flight model. in real combat, the F15 had over 250 kills to 2--3 shot downs. if I were to live the dream again, I would pick an F15 (early models, not the bomb truck), a Harrier AV8-B / GRS 8, or a French Rafale. Having Gripen A makes very little sense to me at the moment, depending on the map i can get reasonable results but if there is no terrain cover im just defending all the time unless i get a sneaky flank going on. still 700k rp for aim-120's so fun. really tempted to just GE the C model lol

I want to stress to people. This is not DCS. You do not NEED to use TWS.
TWS does not guarantee a kill.
TWS is useful for finding and tracking targets without alerting them.
But you can just as easily lock and launch and get kills in regular PD search mode
Tws lets you fire at multiple targets, and tws doesn’t give them an rwr warning so tws is a very good mode to be in, if you aren’t using tws in a bvr fight then you are at a disadvantage

The fact that so many people GE rushed to get the planes and spade them for the Fox-3's is canser, it's made the top tier experience unplayable if you are actually grinding the modules of a plane. And why the ever loving sh*t would they put a Phantom at 11.7?!
so far ive constantly been getting spiked by invisible ARH missiles, they dont show diamonds anymore above them
and the multipath is definetly not 60 meters, feels more like 20

@@michaelc9155 i know that smokeless missiles were always harder to spot, but SARH and ARH missiles were visible within a few km range when the engine was already off before they would hit you, that is now completely gone
Amraams never had a long burn time, missile in wt only get the marker if the engine is burning. The older sarh and phoenix had longer burn times so the diamond is pretty much always present. @IceGuadian

I'm not sure what's been affected, but when I was flying the American av8b+, the countermeasures seemed to only give me one pop in missions. Made for a real interesting time.
I noticed the Shift-A while playing with a prop, I couldn't really find what used that binding so I just unbound most Jet related keys.
With a prop it stopped me from making a left roll while still pressing shift for throttle.
Defyn not sure if you'll see this but they put the data channels that each fox 3 plane gets in the patch notes. Mostly doesn't matter but the Russian jets (SU-27SM, MIG-29SMT, J-11S) only get 2 channels so they can only guide that many missiles at a time.

It would be very beneficial for you to use manual radar controls to steer your tws radar to the right edge at 11:10. You can still use cycle targets and not full manual if that's most comfortable, also slewing up or down is needed.

Absolute perfect gameplay. You can change the key binds on the menu. I just turned it off honestly. I rather use primary secondary switches
The thing Gaijin does wrong with multipathing is that its IRL effects are a case by case scenario. Its not a one altitude fits all. The major factor in it is the distance between radar and target. The further from the radar the target is, the higher the ceiling for multipathing, hence why fox 1 missiles were heavily affected. Fox 3 missiles solve that one issue with having their own radar so as the missile gets closer to the target so does the radar. The next factor is radar strength and scan resolution and early fox 3 missiles were severely lacking on that front. This means that they could still lose track if the target was low but the ceiling was lower. Modern missiles are almost immune to that effect.
Gaijin's "one size fits all" approach is more likely so they keep the calculations and server load down since otherwise every aircraft and missile would need its own values.
Imagine how much more useless planes with semi active missiles would be in an uptier if that was implemented.
Hopefully they wont add that.

I like the multipathing nerf, but it needed to come with smaller team sizes.
At least people cant just fly low to be 100% safe anymore, now shit planes with decent missiles like the tornado and new harrier are actually playable.
Defyn can you share what your keybinds are for:
- switching between radar modes/scopes (PD/TWS, but also radar/IRST + HMD/ACQ)
- are you using a keybind to switch ranges?
- locking radar targets
- switching lock in TWS
- cycling thru ordnance/missiles
- countermeasures
- anything important I'm forgetting
I feel like my keybinds are a total mess after years of just shoving shit onto the M+KB. I'd like to optimize my binds to improve efficiency.
can the AIM-54C even compete with them new Fox-3 ? I'm pretty sure IRL a Phoenix would still be dangerous, but it's slower and less agile than an AIM-120A... we will see, I love the Tomcat, and I don't think I'll leave it now
At least in DCS it sort of can. AIM54 has crazy range but worse guidance than the newer missiles so if you use the range and avoid getting into range of the other missiles it can work. If you get in range of the newer stuff though, you're at a big disadvantage.

Speaking of patch-day all the laser auto-trackers are broken or non can lock-on now, and i have to manually guide the GBUs, Mavericks, Hellfires, Kh-29L ... u name it, aka any laser guided air-to ground weapons.
Also i don't think the AMRAAMs can justify the high BR on planes like the AV-8B - doesn't even has data-link -, (not to mention that by the time and suffering u unlock fox3s on planes like the Tornado U'd never want to fly that plane ever again), but we'll see.

the multipath nerf would be good on high BR with most ARH, no for BR11.7 and downtier BR F-14 is getting because it only benefit F-14 because they're the sole Fox-3 user in that BR while everyone else has SARH
What's the go-to tactic for people using the F-15A trying to unlock planes with Fox3 missiles? I feel very overwhelmed by the power difference between SARH and ARH missiles
