Finally, a video that specifically talks about PM tasks and objectives, rather than showing for 10mins, coffee brewing or a lunch run. As a new PM, actual details are beneficial, and I appreciate the time taken to list out EXACTLY what PMs do in addition to giving tips on what makes a good PM. Subscribed.
I just came from that video lol
Hey just curious, i am now starting to learn about it and i would really appreciate if you told what are some important technical skills i must learn to be eligible for applying. Thanks ☺️
I SWEAR!! If I see somebody brew coffee or do a skin care routine no one cares About instead of talking about project management stuff I’ll lose my shit😂😂
@@GDLizzay same lol
They say third times a charm, am officially a pmp🎉🎉 for all my repeat test takers don't give up and don't be discouraged.
Passing the pmp is when you study hard,if you can't study or you don't have time for your studies I'd advise you get yourself help like Mr Thomas
Really, you'll know him? I even thought i was the only one he has helped walk through the fears and falls of pmp
Talking of help with pmp exams Thomas is a genius. I never believed it was possible to see my exam questions with the answer, his awesome🎉
I have sat for pmp for the 2nd time now and still failed, i guess PMP Certificate isn't meant for people like me😭
Please how can I reach this man I’m really in need of his help🤲
This guy truly explained what a PM does or focuses on haha rather than just show off his day in a life
I love you. I’m telling you, you’re the first person to break it down in such a way I can understand. This job is so cool. And these steps you can apply to everyday life. I love it.
Among all PM blogs I've watched , yours is the most I like. You are very eloquent, and you give off that vibe where "you talk like you know what you are talking about". I can also feel from the video the essence of your experience in the marine corps, there is a certain humility, discipline and respect for the job that you exclude. Finally a PM that I would like to follow on TH-cam
I love that you included your dog in the vlog. Cheers!
Seconding previous comments expressing how great it was to actually have the main points of a PM’s day explained (and even though I know the jargon, I appreciated that you did the same for specific terms as well). So much value from something like this 😉
Thank you!
Great video ! I love that I understand what you’re talking about lol It’s all about letting the stakeholders know what you need and what your role is in the PM world. And communication is key . it’s a learning journey I’ve been a PM for 8 months now and the first 3 months were so confusing but I was a subject matter expert of the product for 4 years so some days it makes sense more than others.
communication is key indeed!!! often have to repeat things a dozen times but that's just the nature of our job :)
Thanks for this video Sheldon! New sub and here trying to learn more about the role, you’re the first one I found that discuss this role within the federal government. This is great, hope you’re still enjoying our neighborhood 😊
Finally a video that shows an actual day in the life of a PM
Debating on getting my PMP ... I just got certified in Scrum. Keep it up brother !!!
Congrats bro!!
Congrats 👏 , how much time did you spend for getting it
Excellent video thank you
I am a project coordinator and my company will soon be paying for me to complete the Prince2 course. I am happy about this.
thank you for your support!
Hello, I truly enjoyed you being so transparent, honest, and encouraging, while demonstrating through communication/action the mindset that's needed to be a successful project manager on a consistent basis. I'm currently studying for my CAPM exam. Then, I'll be going after my PMP designation as well.
thank you for your feedback and support. wishing you the best of luck!
Thank you Sheldon. I just stumbled upon your video and I found it very insightful. Continued success to you on your PM journey.
Bro, U slayed this presentation. You briefly detailed each segment which add clarity for me as compared to the definition one gets from reading. I am going to be working with a project management team after conducting lot of independent solo project. This help me see the similarities and where things diverge. Your delivery was flawless. Your experience shines.
Thanks for the sharing! I am struggling to look for a project management position and this video clarifies all my hesitation and motivates my ball rolling.

I'm just starting to get introduced into the field of PM and I'm incredibly excited about this profession. Thanks so much for an informative, fun video! Subscribed and super glad to see your content!!
thank you for the sub!!! wishing you the best!
Great video, I'm currently pursuing project management degree and PMP. Thanks for the information!
Very helpful! But I think what we all REALLY want to see, is a day in the life of the Wheaton terrier. Thanks for the vid!
Your video have helped me reach over $200,000 in stocks by age 24! Thanks. Keep the videos coming
Congrats ! I started right before Covid when the recession hit.I held those stocks and made a killing. I bought dividend stocks and made a lot during Covid.
I’m convinced that the big investors and analysts are trying to scare us to keep us poor and ignorant to the market…because its steady doing good after all the jobless and market crash talks
@Rose When I was 20 but you need a finance pro to be successful.

Thanks for the info! I have my last interview for a PM role and this helps me understand how I can prepare to attack and understand how I can bring value as a PM. Subscribed.
Thanx for the information and tips that you have given. The partnership I have with company going to expand and we will go in the field of project management and I am looking forward to take on this challenge.
As an introvert, just confirmed this is def not the career for me. Thanks for the video!!
i'm an introvert too though... :)
Me too, but if you're organized and communicate effectively there's hope!
Hi Sheldon! Just came across your channel in looking for a day in the life of a Project Manager (which I am currenlty training in, lol) and at the same time I found a fellow Marine! Semper Fi, Marine! OHH RAHH!
Excellent video Devil Dog! I too am of the Corps. Was offered to become a project manager by my boss with my civilian job with the Air Force down here in San Antonio. It was a no brainer. I have excellent interpersonal communication skills. And I like solving problems. I am currently a Visual Information Spec. Seems like an easier route to becomming a GS12 and beyond as there are not too many 12 posiitons in my current field. My degree is a BS in Digital Cinematography. So I have worked in indie film. And let me tell you, even making a short film is quite a project to manage.
you're absolutely right about how making this video can feel like a project haha. thank you for your service! wishing you much success!
Thank you so much this was brilliant! I am looking into making that PM transition and this video is really helpful.
Great video and good information, thank you very much for being very informal and not just brewing morning coffee and filming lunch!!
You don't have to watch the whole video. I've been a PM for several organizations. How I spent my time? 3 things : hosting meetings (for review progress / finding solution approaches for blockers), preparing progress reports and other bureaucracy, investigating (e.g. a data protection regulation didn't allow us to upload personal info to our systems, needed to find proposed solutions)
I am still in the search of a video that shows an actual true example of going through a project …
You won't find someone going step by step through a real project because of privacy issues sadly 😢
Great video! As a PM, I need more content like this that present feedback or advice to help me grow in my field .
From one PM to another , how would you handle working under a director who micromanages every aspect of your next moves?
Leave. Lots of jobs out there right now. Lotsssss
Not much you can do in a situation like that. Just remind your director that you are there to help and express it in a way like you are taking a load off them. Good luck!
@@margaretrangel7223 Thank you I appreciate the feedback. Fortunately after this comment that director resigned , and the new one is much more inclusive and allows me to be a PM
@@DarkKnightLifts That is great news!
Thank you for this , this definitely gave me a better idea about the job. I am also a nitro cold brew advocate.
LFG 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for your video. I’m currently looking for an entry leveled PM / assistant PM position at small to medium sized companies. Your video gave great insight that I would look forward to applying at my future job!
thank you for watching! you got this!
So happy I found your channel! Thank you for the awesome video!
Thank for this video very motivational as an Construction Management student, I feel that you really gave out viable information to motivate me to be push harder to become a future pm very motivational seeing the day to day things you are able to do!
This video is a great source to learn new things about project management which really helps us to enhance our more knowledge about this this particular subject and especially without wasting a time this video tells multiple things.
Great video! Have you considered a scrum certification too? I feel like it would enhance your marketability as a PMP even more.
Definitely thought about CSM vs PSM. I have no experience with software development though, but I’m familiar with the general concepts. If I ever wanted to test my value in the private market this would be a priority!
@@SheldonLeeFit Man, you know a lot more than what you give yourself credit for!
This is a really good video. I’m two years late in watching it as I am transitioning into project management. So I’m trying to learn as much as possible. I don’t know if you’ll see this comment or if you’ve done a video on this, but how can you explain influence without it sounding Manipulative?
Thank you Sheldon, your explanation was very insightful. It condensed and cleared up a lot of things for me
Glad it helped!
This was a great video man. We ripped it and put it in our training program for new PMs. Bravo
thank you! i'm flattered and glad i can help :)
thank you for doing this video really helped me in deciding what career to take.
This video was insightful!
thank you!
Influence without authority. Keep it up! Thanks for sharing.
great vid. very informational thank you. i have a project management internship coming up and this was really helpful!
Also studying for a project manager! Dream job and can not wait till i can work
It’s a very cut throat profession, especially in construction.
Hello, Navy here 👋
Im just about to complete my PMP certification, and I would was wondering if having just a PMP certificate is enough to start out?
Great video! Thanks for sharing. We have very similar work methods and ideas.
this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO helpful man,,, amazing!!,,, Thank you for your service as well!
Thanks for watching!
Damn good video! Love it🎉
im going to finish my degree this year and transition into this career by next year
Thank for your sharing, bro
thanks for watching :)
A sales team leader in IKEA here. But want to venture in Project Management. Can you suggest a starting point? Any info would be helpful. Thank you. 🙏🙏
Hi Sheldon , thanks for sharing this! What are some entry level jobs I should be looking into if I want to become a project manager?
Yo Sheldon, I am a primary school PE teacher and I am looking to get into project management or planning. I don’t know what industry part of project work I want to get into i.e. IT/construction etc, and I have a family so a career change is scary.
Is this something you think I can get into with no knowledge and what way would you direct me if you could.
Like where do you fink I should start? Should I do a Udemy course on excel as you mentioned excels importance. How do I find all the project management/planner specialisms? I can study this and do an exam whilst I am a primary PE teacher?
Is there a way I can have more communication with you as a mentor?
Your video made me feel a little more at ease and u simplify things really well so I am hoping you can possibly mentor me through my journey. I know your crazy busy though so only if possible.
What would you suggest to a fresh graduate who just started a career as a project management analyst? which are the most important skills to acquire?
So far I find it really hard to be realistic after all the brainstorming
Great content! thank you!
Awesome video. Made a similar video of a day in my life at Microsoft
PM or Operations? I am really stucked. I am basically a production engineer who thinks to be a PM.
so I’m planning to study abroad soon, I have been working As a customer service representative for almost 3 years and 2 years as virtual assistant. And one of the education consultant told me to get a PMP and I don’t know if this is really for me. what do y’all think
loved the content tnx for sharing your experience
thanks for watching :)
What kind of data do you have to sift through in excel spreadsheets? Are you looking at the number of employees or staff hours to optimize workflow?
this was fire
thanks man!
What projects do you usually manage
Without getting into too much detail the projects I manage are building data and database models for various clients
@@SheldonLeeFit nice
I want to go for my PMP though am a Cyber Analyst right now, does a Masters' degree lend experience to sit for it? I did see that it is a long exam with a paper component
Could someone share what is the average annual salary for a PMP position like this one?
It varies a lot based on many different factors like industry, location, etc. Google will tell you it’s around $120k USD but I’ve seen lower and much higher.
Thanks a lot for the video! Very insightful!
thank you!
Thanks for sharing!
Great video! What certifications are needed to break into the field without project management experience? Thanks
Omg. I felt like you were talking to me in your video - I'm a 30 year old that is thinking about taking her PMP certification to take on a Project Manager role in a major bank. I have no idea what to expect, I've been freelancing as a coupier and a real estate agent and I don't know if this will allow me to have the time to do all 3
But liked and subscribed! t
@@trancehippie I’m 30 years old too haha. Glad you got value out of this older video. I made new ones about being a PM on my channel. Best of luck!
is being a project manager similar to just being a HR manager?
No HR has to do with human rights and human resources where Project manager is everything about a project that has a begining/start and and end/close out. Its a progress process where you see development. 😉
Great video.
What do you think of google Project Manager Certification?
I would also like to know
I think it’s a great entry level cert for those with little experience who are looking into PM roles and positions. Very comparable to the CAPM.
@@SheldonLeeFit I’ve competed but I’m experience impostor syndrome. How different is the course compared to actual work?
Is there a difference between project manager and project manager consultant?
How do you plan, organize, and direct tasks that you dont have the knowledge about? for example Consturction of a comercial building. How do you know when the people who works for you lie?
Hello bro , I have been learning project management from lots of sources and recently completed the course namely Scrum Master training in the platform Alison courses. What do you think do they have any advantages for my future career as a PM ? Can you offer any best resources or the best course for getting Master vital soft skills for my future career and getting a job faster than others ?
I am also waiting you to make a video on how to get a first job as a project manager.
Sheldon, how do you negotiate your salary if you’re getting promoted to PM? I have my PMP btw.
I know that its been like three years, but I'm looking into the reserves. Could you maybe go more indepth on how you did reserves and college? Did you do online college or in person?
Samme but no replies smh
Watch his previous videos. He talked about it
hi there , im a Grad student and curuntlly i have project management subject. so i have qustion for you is that any exam to get a PMP certificate or only course itself a certificate?
please guide me
thankyou for your time
Recommend to put the camera down instead of holding on your hands... it's shaky
you right
I’m prior service as well, is it hard finding opportunities in federal government as a project manager ?
What project management tools you use for the work?
What industries need project managers I know they can work in construction but I'm curious where else lol and if a degree is enough to be a project manager
Hey I followed your Instagram. I am a college graduate and am thinking about the military. I like how you set your life up after the marines. I just think about combat jobs when I hear marines. I have some questions on how you landed a management job after the marines. Like how did being a marine help that. I am too trying to set my life up so I don’t ever have to worry about many again.
Hello, As an Active duty person heading towards Project manager job field. I am also considering federal work. My question is, does your service in years translate? Also what pathway did you take to get into a federal position ? @sheldon l
It does translate depends how you put on your resume, if you go to usa jobs there are a lot of jobs only require experiences
Love it
How many hours do you work a week?
I'm not the creator of the video but I am a project manager with my PMP certification. I will say that it really depends on the company and how many projects you are working on. I have worked less than 40 hours at previous jobs when there aren't many projects I'm in charge of, but then I've worked over 50 hour weeks when the projects are getting into the construction phase.
i just got my PMP. looking for a company to work for
Sheldon, I am also located in DC. I would love to connect with you. I am looking to transition into project management.
What’s starting entry level salary for a google project manager
I just want to say that i got so much out of this man. I have a strong desire to get into real estate and i am working toward my state license and also getting some certifications around that at the moment. Over the last couple weeks i came across PM and i started to gain a strong interest that i even started the google certification program im sure you are familiar with it. Do you think really doubling down on PM could help me excel in the real estate field in any way ? I want to take the PMP exam one day. let me know thanks again.
i think the google cert is a great way to get acquainted with project management from a very high level. it's tough to juggle two separate careers but everyone's situation is different so it's tough for me to make that call - only you know the answer! wishing you much success either way.
PMP isn't in my opportunity reach right now, CAPM is my starting point. Do you have an opinion on entry level positions available with the CAPM or should I be doubling with something else to show my motivation and commitment to eventually obtaining PMP? I appreciate your video and sharing your day.
Depends on your current position and how much exposure to PM responsibilities you already have. I think the CAPM or the Google PM cert is a great entry into learning about project management material if you’re looking getting your foot in the door and don’t have much experience. It will help you prepare for the PMP.
@@SheldonLeeFit will that help you get an entry level job
Yo i know you were in the reserves and im thinking about doing it but i was wondering if you could tell me where they go and what they do right after bootcamp?
Watch my other videos where I answer this :)
what did you study?
Hi Sheldon. I am 22 years old who currently working operation, leadership in quality. I'm thinking of going into a project management role. would you recommend google project management certification?
I think the Google PM cert is a great place to start! Very similar to the CAPM. It will prep you for your PMP if that is your future goal.
You might want to invest on a tripod. Your camera shakes a lot as you move.
you're absolutely right... appreciate the feedback!
Anyone have any ideas on PMP vs MBA in Project management? My school offers both in separate graduate programs
The MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a graduate school business degree program that takes an average of about 2-3 years and gives you general business management knowledge across different areas such as finance, human resource management, marketing, information systems, business strategy, etc. depending on what area you want to focus on, min. requirements for the MBA degree is a bachelor's degree. The PMP (Project Management Professional) is a project management certification given by the PMI (Project Management Institute) and allows individuals to be formally certified as a project manager via an exam per the PMBOK and other sources such as Agile practice guide etc. Requirements to sit for the PMP exam is normally certain number of PM experience hours and educational qualifications.
The uneven globe frame at 8:30 is really distracting
it's even... it just looks uneven from the camera angle
