I found it very fascinating how already by late 2003, MS already had developed this new UI (Aero) along with the new glass icons which were later used in Windows Vista (2006). Of course I know that it's not fully the same UI and of course there were changes specially after the reset. But most of the UI originated in late 2003. It seems that MS was quickly trying to move away from the luna/ plastic look that was used by MS on the early 2000s. The demo from MS on this video and most of the later longhorn builds prior to the reset can be a good example of this transition.
I totally agree he does do some great videos, and these videos are very in-depth with great research about the topic and presented nicely. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the info - will update the video. Which builds had the Plex-style notifications? I don't recall seeing any in the builds I tried that had Plex.
Windows Vista wasn't a failure at all. It was actually ahead of its time and required higher PC specs. Hardware makers were also lazy with making drivers.
I would generously offer to send in pictures of Aero working in build 4074 but my test machine is fussy with its drivers. is it possible that when you get to 4074 that if I get it working, you might accept pictures of it working (since obviously a VM won't do it, if at all well, as far as I'm aware) ?
I actually did manage to get Aero working in a 4074 VM (the only build other than 3718 where I got DCE to work correctly). If you want to send over anything, though, I would still consider including it, so feel free! You can email it to me at windowsonwindows@gmail.com. :)
Also, two production issues: Could you please make it so your large Windows 8 cursor doesn’t cover the small Longhorn cursor? Also, recording in 1280x720 or 1920x1080 would look much nicer on TH-cam.
Funny you should mention those things as, from the next video, I have hidden the host OS cursor (that was always a mistake anyway) and have switched to 1280x720 in the guest OS. :)
***** i cant believe that by 2003 there were already vista icons made. Its also hard to believe that by that year xp icons and luna theme were consider old!!
The starting music is the Windows XP Intro song: th-cam.com/video/O1BlakAsa4Q/w-d-xo.html The music after 7:10 was from the Windows XP tour (just Google "Windows XP Tour Music") until 15:32, which was composed by Kevin MacLeod (search his name).

Who’d have thought everything would go downhill from here for Longhorn
These Videos deserves more views. Feels like you worked a lot harder on them than Micheal MJD did on his beta videos.
I think these videos are more in-depth because that is what I wanted to focus on. Michael does really great videos, just with a different focus. :)

Thank you...glad you enjoy them. :D
The balloon timeout was in other builds as well. In plex-style notifications it had a white act-as-a-timer bar on the top of the balloon.

I recall seeing them in 4011 and 4015, not 100% sure, I'll try to get some screenshots.
On the day of release Windows Longhorn, the compiled version 4051 the build oficial the PDC 2003 on 1 October 2003.

Agreed. :)
Yep
+El Pollo Loco 51 After Windows ME, it was the worst thing to come out of Microsoft ever.
YES THANK YOU SOMEBODY AGREES FINALLY
NO. IT WAS UTTER PIECE OF CRAP
Longhorn looks so nice
that was a placeholder look, vista is the final thing and is quite better
@@namesurname4666 This wasn't a placeholder look but an actual concept.

in 21:00 you said about the grayed out preview. You can enable it when you start aero
Interesting...is that only in this build? I just tried this in 4074 and it was still greyed out with Aero...
In some builds you can enable the preview with aero.. I don't know specifically witch, but I know that you can
Wow.. the libraries in longhorn was so much more useful! shame they didn't include this in the windows 7.
13:00 will let you skip the PDC 2003 coverage.
Thanks dudududududududude
considering thats in 2003, msft's vision was quite crazy...
***** how is that build 4050 in the PCD already had vista icons and 4051 which is the build after that still had XP icons?
Is there a script out there that automatically copies all non-exe files into defaultstore?
During Bill Gates's presentation, was the XP Welcome music playing, or did you add that into the video?
I added it.
😂😂😂

Aero will indeed be coming!

Chief software architect...?
I've always found Longhorn always looked like a more moderner XP and not like Vista
WinXP SP4.
I can barely hear you...
Wait nevermind, I had video volume set to very low for some reason
