It's nice to see CMT, to me it's a local company, having success in Canada too! They deserve it anyway, the tools are very high quality and aimed to demanding professional use.
Hey ! Nice to see that your S.O. was able to assist with some of the action around the ramp instal. (I think) you would benefit greatly to integrate your family more often into your "Samurai" theme here. "My thing" sorry. I grew up with four brothers (and my youngest sister) so my heart goes out to your "four boys." You also have one boy who lives in a "unique" world. Your gold Mr. Samurai. Get to know the"unique" world that he lives in. Ask him to share his world while taking the time to be with him. Bring him along. Keep him safe. Your relationship with him will have payback over time that will benefit all family members. Carry the GOLD. I know you can. Come on Mr. Samurai.
fun tip i learned up-north.......you can use an air compressor to quickly fill a bucket, barrel, or other container, while it is "under the dock" to add buoyancy........take a plastic-barrel, near fully sink it so you can get it under, then, put the air hose in the hole of the barrel, turn on compressor, and the air will fill the chamber, and also push out any water....or, tire-tubes would work for temporarily raising the dock...............perhaps consider this for your next dock, it is the cheapest solution and also the most variable......and the most eco-friendly.....................please do NOT use styrofoam
The hinge bolts are gonna be moving ALL THE TIME!! from water movement so the washers are going to wear through over a couple years so make some washers out of UHMW the same material that cutting boards are made of they are a wear resistant plastic and will make everything move freely and not wear out.... TRUST ME! you are gonna want to do this
I just doesn't look right to me. It's hinging on too little contact area and is going to cut through the bolts, and (depending on how much wave action they get there) probably in less than two years. It needs some sort of bushing arrangement with a sleeve bolted tightly between the out clamping plates. The tricky bit is going to be designing the bushing that is attached solidly to the ramp so that the ramp doesn't hinge on the bushing. Definitely doable, and highly advisable.
@@TrevorDennis100 It is more than enough. You can always replace bolts and washers. It will easily do 10-20 years. What actually wears is the aluminium. There should be a sacrificial plastic washer facing the aluminium if you want to be on the safe side. But it is fine as it is for decades. The main issue is that the parts of the ramp are welded so you can't just easily swap those parts out but I guess you can just take a battery powered angle grinder and replace it with bolted replacements.
Roofing shingles or sanded tar paper works great on gangplanks for grip and lasts many years. As for the wood, cut the first board short and then go from there to stager your joints and you can end them where you want. The left over from the last run just starts the next run.
Here in Thailand, on the tidal Chao Prya river, Bangkok, the way they hold/stop the ferry gang-planks, & docks from moving, is to use vertical tubes, 10 ft high, (6, 8, or 10" diameter), cast into the river bed, and use plastic/neoprene rollers, (shaped to the tube dia.). This allows ONLY vertical movement at the dock end, ensuring NO sideways stress at the hinged fixing points. I am sure that you could do something similar/simpler, using timber logs, and rollers. A Ceremonial entrance in true Japanese Samurai style ! Have fun, .... Take care, .... Love, to all the family !
Those timbers on top are fine - you just fix horizontal thin batons across them at 90 degrees (say half inch in height that's all). Gap the long boards you have already (like decking and they won't rot). They give you grip and stop you sliding and put them say 16 -18 inches apart.
I enjoy your content. I'm they same way when it comes to bolts facing the same way. I would have left the long end outwards so it doesn't catch on stuff or someone s foot.
I build docks for a living down on the Puget Sound. I’d be happy to offer any advice or suggestions for you dock and ramp landing if you are interested.
Can you kindly look and let him know if the pivot (the bit he bolted on) needs to spin as well and go up and down? looks wrong to me ? but I have no experience and could be totally wrong :)
@@robertfrost4086 It definitely shouldn't have movement. Rather, you should have something down at the pier to help it move around. Small rollers or even covering the contact area with plastic might be good but you can also just change the planks when they wear out.
That dock will move up and down many meters. Putting any structure on the dock is a bad idea. If anything, the dock will most likely prove too small and the ramp will be in the water when the water is the highest. That isn't the end of the world of course.
I was hoping you were going to do a titanic scene at the end of that ramp on the way to your dock. A sleeve at the 8 inch bolt in between the tabs on the ramp will help with side loading.
I thought you sold your home. See, you're still working in your shop. Were these videos made before the sale of your home, or did you work out a deal at the sale?
Usually the mattress would be split at the hinge point so instead of giving it a partial cut just get some bungie cord along the hinge point and it will force a fold....problem solved
I get the OCD thing, I'd do the same for sure - but you should have left it and flipped the first (left) one, so there weren't bolt bits sticking out out where human ankles pass by, better if you had both bolt-heads on the inner face and the remaining threads hanging out where people don't travel (yeah yeah, call me a Karen, which I always laugh at in your vids, but like dude - you have fun taking that 2-ish inches of bolt to that knobby bit on the side of your foot, ugh, I'm wincing from here just thinking about it LOL) Also, BAT SO CUTE! :D
uh, i totally get your bolt thing, but the lower bolt on the left side has the nut on the outside of the flange. The other three have the bolts on the inside.....just helping out
Love the safety practiced. Crushing weights, and open toed sandals, with sneakers to boot. But as the saying goes "The difference between me and you... I make awesome Sh%t!" True dat, true dat.
I believe your brackets are wrong...those swivel brackets need to hang down. As soon as the floating dock pulls at all they are going to flip. You'll see.
Lmao at a Carpenter Tightening Bolt’s we’re talking channel locks and a crescent wrench. Like a carpenter using a ball peen hammer do drive wooden pegs.
Note on your comments on worrying about what kind of content you give us. (I know I’m late) *DON’T* I enjoy every episode, I look forward to them. Keep on keepin on.✌️(edit spelling)
Good vid. Kind of glad you got rid of the notification child screaming "yay" sound in the very beginning. First 10 seconds of the vid are too important for that for retention.
I seem to remember the water got high enough to cover half of his footings after he poured them so could get close to level at high water I guess. Unless that was his old footings that were poured in the wrong place the first time
I don’t know how you do it all, the filming the building the socializing, but Respect. Don’t forget to Enjoy that water. Nice country there.
Oh man, project Idea: Bat houses. You could just bolt them to one of your high trees. :) Good natural bug control.
Love seeing Mrs. Samurai having a blast at the helm. Whoopwhoop! Great ramp! That makes coming ashore sooo much easier! It’s also great looking btw.
That's a fine looking ramp. Just fine.
Very exciting! You're making it happen bro. Congratulations!
“Don’t die, honey….” …. Mrs Samurai you savage lol….
The wife is one of the better cameramen dare I say.
More camerawoman.
Great work! Awesome nature around! Thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend my friend!👍

Looking good. It's all coming together nicely. Bravo.

Yeah! The ramp is in. It will make offloading that much easier and safer for the children, too.
Thank you for not hanging off of the front of the boat and shouting "I'm the king of the world!" I appreciate it, man! 😆
nice to see the safety sandals are back
It's always nice to add a new saw blade to the frisbee collection.

It is most likely too deep there. Also, the bottom is hard, not soft.
@jonnenne, Agreed, but he has somehow going to have to stop the dock from moving sideways !
so cool!!!! we need another live Q and A. those were fun as heck
What have you decided about your lost anchors?
Bat Dad voice A+++++!
3:45 - let's hope that's your only Titanic moment :)
Don't die honey! Best line ever. 🙂

Looks awesome!! Every addition is making your little paradise even more perfect!
Looks like Sproat Lake, Smiths landing...
You really need a plankstretcher.
A realy handy tool when the planks run a bit short
I recommend rubber casters to rub against the moving dock. Less wear. Aluminum will wear fast.
I enjoy your content. I'm they same way when it comes to bolts facing the same way. I would have left the long end outwards so it doesn't catch on stuff or someone s foot.
Incredible journey man.
That micromesh stuff sounds like a better idea than boards for sure.

That’s mighty kind of ya’, Alex! Hopefully he takes you up on your offer to further perfect his already awesome build. 😃
Looks nice! Good luck with the new dock.
I enjoy learning with you. 🤗👍🥳
Missed a golden ‘I’m on top of the world’ moment stood at the front of the boat!
I was hoping for a titanic Celine Dion moment
very nice ramp
and the ones i make have little ramps that connect to the ends with grip tape type stuff on them
Put a set of raised stairs (or just a minideck) on the new dock, and have the ramp rest on it. That way you straighten out the steepness 🙂

Thankyou peace fellow babies.
Anchor update ?
Samurai, as a fellow woodworker I urge you to make a *bat box!*
such a cool adventure man!
I love those concrete piers mate. 👌
How's the anchors doing at the bottom of the lake?
I thought you sold your home. See, you're still working in your shop. Were these videos made before the sale of your home, or did you work out a deal at the sale?
What about the left and right mouvement ?
Yeah, the ramp should be inside the booms.
What about it
So did divers find the anchor rope and chain?
Gotta love that 🦇😎🇺🇸✌🏽
12:50 they may not match entirely. The ones you corrected do....
if it is foam try a relief cut on the bottom of the mattress
So.. what happened to your anchor??? Did you dive to try to get a glimpse of some buoy down there?
How are you still working in your shop? I thought you sold the house.
Houses take time to close
Working in flip flops or sandals, gawd
A pair of Channel locks and using a adjustable wrench backwards LoL
Usually the mattress would be split at the hinge point so instead of giving it a partial cut just get some bungie cord along the hinge point and it will force a fold....problem solved
Build a crib for your dock
You missed the perfect opportunity to yell out “im on top of the woooorld” whilst overhanging the front of the boat😅

How about your anchor-system ? Can you salvage it ? Greetings from Finland lake area !
apologies 14:06 both bottom bolts are going same way,
missed a golden opportunity for a reenacted bow scene from titanic.
maybe next time?
Such a beautiful spot. Does it stay cold all the time?
95 degrees here in Florida and he’s wearing fleece in June
It’s Junuary here 🤪🥶
"Jack I'm flying"
Ever thought about a string to tie the bend down?
What's the update on the anchor
Isn't it meant to be summer there ? Its looking rather cold !
Love it keep it up!
How much can the lake level vary?
uh, i totally get your bolt thing, but the lower bolt on the left side has the nut on the outside of the flange. The other three have the bolts on the inside.....just helping out
Hopefully the new dock doesn't go the way of the well planned anchors.
Can’t believe you missed the opportunity to yell “I’m king of the world!” While hanging off the end of your boat!
Whats the point counting 1,2,3 when they lift on 5?

Why would you say something that stupid
11:35 It would appear that sir dresses to the left.
Dude, get some paracord and tie it down like normal people. xD
Those bolt angles tho.
Good vid. Kind of glad you got rid of the notification child screaming "yay" sound in the very beginning. First 10 seconds of the vid are too important for that for retention.
The bottom bolt on the left is backwards 😂
Kinda like the bouys you used for the chains, should have been 5 times larger and even then I'm not sure it would have been enough.
Isn't the ramp going to get pushed sideways by wind/current very quickly?
Why would the ramp be pushed? It isn't made out of styrofoam.
Your neighbors dock is longer. haha
Nice video! But please don't do the ecoflow airco thing I see all over the TH-cam community..... Its just such a weird thing to have off grid
That is a huge ramp. How much does the water level vary?
I seem to remember the water got high enough to cover half of his footings after he poured them so could get close to level at high water I guess. Unless that was his old footings that were poured in the wrong place the first time
did you make your gangway or buy it and what did yo pay cause i make those and for 11 foot i charge about 7k with tax and shipping
