I want to be Jimmy Diresta when I grow up, which would be a fine goal if I wasn't older than he is. I can't decide if watching him work inspires me or discourages me. It's not just the skill but the creativity that seems unattainable.
Doesn’t matter. I once replaced the glass top of an IKEA sidetable with a piece of oak, and even though I didn’t create much, it was successful and satisfying. Just go and build something, chances are it’ll be worth it.
I agree with the other commenters here. I find that experience builds more skill, which in turn builds more satisfaction, which in turn drives more projects, which in turn drives more experience....and so on.
i hear ya! i'm younger than he is. I'm not as creative as he is! i can cut two boards. they're both 5ft. put them on their ends to compare them, one will always be 1/16in off. Jimmy looks like he's throwing things together and it all fits!
This really appeals to my love of recycling old material back into something useful and nice looking. This is definitely one of my favorites! Nice Job, Jimmy.
Love it Jimmy. Anytime we can recycle old stuff and not waste materials I’m for it. I teach high school shop class and am forever encouraging my students to ‘upcycle’ or reuse old materials.
I bet those carpenters a hundred plus years ago never imagined that those deck boards would be seen by millions all over the world in various projects!!
I picked up so many tips here for my projects, probably 10 or more. Best one was gluing the letters to the rail instead of welding. Looking up that Total Boat adhesive now. Thanks Diresta.
Excelente tutorial maestro, reciclar puertas antiguas está genial, un gran proyecto, gracias por compartir tanta creatividad y conocimientos, un saludo cordial y por supuesto un gran like desde Narón (Galicia) 👌🤓😜
I Wish I was Jimmy Diresta! I wish I had his shop. I wish I had his creativity. I wish I had his collection of old wood. I wish I had all of his tools. I wish I was Jimmy Diresta!
man, jimmy is awesome, and this is coming from an.. well not an adult let's just say say, but like honestly this dude's a comedy genius, just thought I should bring it up.
Jimmy is the guy in the village that makes the village possible. There was a time civilization was almost completely reliant on someone with his capabilities to make whatever is needed.
Very cool look, using all those reclaiimed boards! Nice touch, leaving the door knobs on 😄 Don't know if it might have been a good idea to flood the tops of the tables with clear epoxy, so you'd still see the old doors, but the surface would be even and smooth... I can imagine placing your drink where the panel meels the rail/stile it would cause your glass to tip over? Maybe it was a time/budget decision not to?
Outstanding Jimmy I thought you might throw some total boat on the tops of the doors to fill the panels I always learn something new watching one of these builds laser to stencil to plasma cutter awesome!
Looks nice and rustic if all you're going to do is look at them. I don't know why you would use a door for a bar or a table. You'll probably ask yourself the same question the first time someone sets their drink or bottle down on the uneven surface and spills their drink or their bottle falls over. It might work if you put a sheet of thick glass on top or resurface the top with flat boards like what was done to the front of the bar. Or just leave it as it is and keep a bunch of rags or wipes handy to wipe up all the spilled messes.
I love the simplicity of these videos but from doing a little "makering" myself, I know just how much thought and prep that goes into it. And how many tools you end up needing (it's a good day if I make something with the tools I have rather than buying more).
How daunting is it to have a corner of the house on jacks? The gentleman you mentioned earlier in the video, did that conversation put a lot at ease? Just that corner seems a monumental task. Awesome work. Thanks for bringing us along.

Experience + Passion = Creativite Masters. Experience w/o passion = Skilled Masters.
Go for it! The only way to get there is it get started. Pay attention and get inspiration from the world around you.

Love that he reuses stuff instead of getting new everytime
This really appeals to my love of recycling old material back into something useful and nice looking. This is definitely one of my favorites! Nice Job, Jimmy.
I foresee many many spilled drinks in the life of that bar and tables with uneven tops 🙂
Yep
I love your aesthetic and just how simple you make things look. I was waiting for you to spray paint your name on it. Never disappoints!
I'd love to be near that junk yard.
Every new project makes me wish I didn't quit making things when I got older.
You make me spill my drink on those door tables and I'm gonna be PISSED.
:-) j/k Awesome, Jimmy! and I love me some Bulleit...
This is so good. Wood hoarding, like we all do, quick and dirty... It's got it all
Love it Jimmy. Anytime we can recycle old stuff and not waste materials I’m for it. I teach high school shop class and am forever encouraging my students to ‘upcycle’ or reuse old materials.
Well done Jimmy - Well done. Been watching you since you were on PBS.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Good one. Like the visit to junkyard metal hunting.
My Dad would be proud, he saves and uses old doors for everything, need a privacy wall? Doors! desk? doors, door? doors!

Ok watched it - so slick and from junk pile! Brilliant
Absolute classic Diresta... Jimmy your a legend. Thank you brother.
I bet those carpenters a hundred plus years ago never imagined that those deck boards would be seen by millions all over the world in various projects!!
I love very much. your classic style of handmade with wood! Just wonderful!
As usual, ecology is mixed with rustic style. Brilliant simplicity with functionality.
"Brilliant"???? "Fuctionality?????" Try to put a glass of water on it and then tell me more about it

This is the perfect aesthetic. Bravo.

The Quality goes in, then the name goes on!
Looks so easy when you do it

Great bourbon. Great bar. Great inspiration (as usual). Thanks, Jimmy!
Really like your library of doors! Great video Jimmy. Also enjoyed the last podcast episode where you talked about this.

Jimmy is such a master at taking something old and make it look .....uhm........older-ish? Awesome work 🤩
Good work 👍👍
Looks like a fun project!
Hey, a new idea for the 16 1890s doors I somehow inherited when I bought my house 🤣
Innovative, creative, and inventive as always, Jimmy!!
Cool build, I’ve used a plasma cutter several times, I love that tool.
Mind blown again ❤ amazing just amazing !!
Amazing, great job. Saludos 🇦🇷

Love the build but a door for a bar top seems odd as it’s not flat. I can see lots of spilled drinks happening 😂

Happy new year Jimmy :-)
Thank you for insperating me over the years
Great Video!!! btw i love the Netflix show: making fun!
Cuttin nails off boards in your new driveway? Jimmy !!Jimmy!!
I wonder how many drinks will spill on those uneven door-tables.
An incredible job. I've been following you for a long time.
Greetings from Chile
Well done. A Plus
Very nice
Great film, love the IG stories on how you made it. Awesome way to upcycle material. Tables are dope! Mahalo for sharing! : )
5:59 nice hoof block stuff,man😉👍
Schaweet build as always Jimmy happy New Year to you and yours
old school vide in this video. fun!
Ciao inventore moto bravo con la sega niente lo ferma
I think I now know why I saved all those old 4 and 6 panel doors.
So cool!!
Pretty amazing work, Jimmy! I really loved the design! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Will there be a piece of thick glass on top? That way you can still see all of the beautiful work but no spilled drinks.
Killing it as usual, Jimmy.
Great video dude
The bulkhead from that old IH Scout 2 Terra is getting a decent round 2.
What a great build!! Love the old wood and door tops. I’m guessing from your house. Which makes it even better.
Cool project, but banging a knee on those freshly cut steel letters might hurt. (Unless you're already too drunk to notice) 😅
I see a lot of spilled drinks in the future lol
outstanding
Jimmy, do you test these old painted things for lead? Lead paint was everywhere in those old houses.
