Wow 2024 and I was wondering what my idea would look like.......I was thinking of using a half inch plexiglass with dadoed edges to overlap making it air tight. But this idea is excellent...... Off to home depot ...👍 👍 🇨🇦
Thank you. I will be rebuilding the box this year. Unfortunately due to covid it sat under a tarp for 2 years which kept the moisture in. I will be building the new box out of HDPE plastic.
I know its May 2020 and just stumbled upon this , you sir should go into a build mode and sell these beauties, I know a lot of yakkers who would love to have this for rods and accessories. Awesome build sir 👍 👍 🇨🇦
As AWESOME as this set-up is I do see one area that would make it better. That would be for you to change the name on the title to my name and let me come pick it up!!! I have seen a ton of ideas shared on You Tue, but this one wins hands down across the board! Thank you Sir for sharing your time and vision here!!!
At first I put my Power-Poles in there, but I found they were getting marked up by the bolts that hold them down, so I've added a couple piece of 1" conduit on each side to store my Power-Poles.
That’s an awesome setup! I was planning one similar with some sort of wheels on a track on the outside edge of the drawer so I can pull it out all the way and access the rear. Was going to build it y’all enough for my crate, extra tackle totes, and camping gear and that way everything can go in it and be secured for overnight trips. Also going to put in a place to lock my kayak to the top of the locker so that I can keep an honest person honest. Great ideas seen here that I’ll be using. Thanks for sharing
It's held up very well. I've taken it on numerous trips through some nasty weather. I keep a tarp on it when I store it outside at home, but other than that I haven't had to do anything else. The only issue I've had is the tongue; the factory Malone tongue is thin walled and not designed for the extra weight I added... it folded up on me on the way back from Tennessee...Fortunately there was a metal shop right off the highway that was open and they cut me up a replacement thick wall tongue.
Thank you. I don't back it into the water. I always put my kayak on cart and wheel it down to the launch. It would take on water if I backed it down in.
They are 12" tires. The bias ply tires that came with the trailer didn't last...they were coming apart when I got back from my one tournament in Kentucky. I've since replaced the tires with radials.
@@josephokoren6093 if I remember correctly, I could only reach in so far. I believe I couldn't reach a few in the middle. With the glue and a few brad nails in the middle, its held together just fine.
Its holding up well. I've had a number of long trips with. The only issue I've had is the tongue on the Malone trailer bent... it's made out of a thinner gauge steel and couldn't handle the weight. The tongue has been replaced with heavier gauge.
Hey Tim, do you leave your kayaks on that trailer with the plastic tube when not in use? And have you noticed any flat spot underneath your kayaks for leaving it on there for long period of time?
Hi Tim, I scanned through the video, The rod locker is awesome! My trailer is similar and I will back into a lake as often as possible to launch the yaks, the reason I made the trailer. My question is, do you back in to launch and if you do , does the Rod locker fill with water?
I don't back into the water, it would fill with water if I did. The majority of our launches don't charge kayakers if they wheel their kayaks to the launch, but they will charge you if you back into the launch. I just pull my kayak part way off the trailer, throw the wheels under it and roll to the launch or beach area.
That's what I thought you were going to say! lol I am going to revamp the trailer over the winter and being in the NY/NJ area not sure I would "want" to leave that many rods in the trailer anyway. I plan too Use at least 1 8" PVC Schedule 35 Tube -should hold 6 rods. Thinking of a way to insert and have some sort of tip protector and inner guide for them.
Wow. I really like that rod locker. Good job! I assume you're sharing this on TH-cam so guys like me can copy-cat your idea, lol. Seriously though, very nice!
Your audio and mumbling is so bad, it’s really hard to try and watch this video. Did not even get half way through it. Your better off muting the dam thing and just do a showcase.
wish somebody was selling these! This is perfect for what I need.

Very nice setup sir. Well thought out and lots of room. Thanks for the video.

Need to patent and sell these. Great idea. Ty for posting and showing this off.
Great video! I retire in two weeks and it will be a PA 14 and a custom built trailer very much like yours - very inspirational, many thanks.
Thank you
I retire in 5 months
What happens when you back into the lake? Does the interior of the box get soaked?
I saw your answer. I need to mount it high. Very good build.

Do you have your measurements for the plywood listed?
Sorry, I don't
Do you use the inside of the pvc pipe for any type of storage?

How's that birch holding up 2yrs later?

Thank you
Looks great Tim
Thanks Parry.
Hello, Does the 3"(?) pvc allow enough height for the Lowrance transducer to clear the crossmember? Thanks
Yes, I've used the BerleyPro mounts with the Lowrance TotalScan transducer and had no issues.
@@TimPercyKayakFishing Thanks I'm headed off to get the pvc.
nice setup.
Nice job , like the rod locker below deck but does it get water inside if ya get too deep on ramp . Great ideas
Thank you. I don't back it into the water. I always put my kayak on cart and wheel it down to the launch. It would take on water if I backed it down in.
I bought a small trailer just to do this for my kayak after I saw this
It may have been noted in the video but what size tires are on this trailer( they look to be 12 inch ) and how do they hold up on long distance trips?
They are 12" tires. The bias ply tires that came with the trailer didn't last...they were coming apart when I got back from my one tournament in Kentucky. I've since replaced the tires with radials.

Thanks. You need to consider making these for resale! If you do, put me on the list.
do you have a video of you building the rod locker????
No, there is a little about it at the end...I started to film, but gave up as I just want to get it down.
@@TimPercyKayakFishing
how did you get the screws in the middle of the box

Bo Wagoner Thank you
Fantastic!
Thank you
Nice setup Tim. How long is the trailer in total length?
15'
Very nice!
Hey Tim, do you leave your kayaks on that trailer with the plastic tube when not in use? And have you noticed any flat spot underneath your kayaks for leaving it on there for long period of time?
Yes, I leave on the trailer or my kayak cart and I never had an issue.
Wow, amazing job.
Thank you
Damn

Tim,
Why do you need two PA's?
Sun Dawg I like to have an extra one for my son's or friends to come out with me.
You're a good dad cause they aren't cheap!!
Sun Dawg
I know I have 2 for when visitors come by, I just take them with me so I won't have to stay home and entertain
Awesome Job. :)
Tim - Would you share the dimensions of the box through email?

What did you use to seal the wood?
Ozarks Yak Angler marine epoxy sealer. Then rustoleum paint.

Windy day, but thanks for the feedback. BTW, you have the option to turn the volume off.
