Instead of using electrical tape to wrap the u bolts, I picked up some 3/8" heat shrink tubing and heat shrank them on. It works good and comes in various colors.
Yes many have said that. It does work and look good as well as a good idea. I was going to do that as well but was too lazy and tired the day I installed on my trailer and U-Bolts to go get it. 😂 But yes next time I will use heat shrink.
The box in the back is a rod storage box as well. The Yakima Topwater box. It’s better than a tube but cost a lot more. I have both. I have numerous videos on the Topwater box on all of my different trailers and truck videos.
Heat shrink tubing would be cleaner than tape. It's sold in 36" lengths. Black rivets are also available. Thanks for the video, the paint came out nice!
Man that looks awesome. I really really like the colors on it too. You did a very very nice job on it. I need to get one myself. You are right about since it winter time this is a good time to do some kayak work so you will be ready for spring time. You & your family have a Merry Christmas buddy.
Thank you sir. I never quit fishing Mack. I go out in the freezing cold. It is tough sometimes, but if there is no ice I am out there. I hope you and the family have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year. Talk soon.
That is a good idea as well. So far I have had no problems with the tube moving around on the trailer. Over 5k miles and still holding out good with just the tape. If I start having problems I will take off and use the plastic dip stuff. Thank you.
I use rod and real covers from Rod Pro-Tech between my tube and Yakima box. They are a one piece cover that goes on and off easily. No problems and full protection.
How did you do your camouflage pattern on your PVC tubing And how did you mount it to the top of your truck do you have a roof rack added to your truck? I would love to see a video of your truck that you have everything mounted to and everything else that you might have done exciting to your truck please I can't wait to see it. Please notify me when you can get a video uploaded on everything I asked you to do for me okay.
The video shows you how to do the pattern. The tube is on one of my trailers. You need to watch the tube video and my trailer videos. They are all uploaded
The paint has primer built. No primer needed. No sanding needed. The paint melts/bond to pipe. All materials used are in the description and I also go over cost in video. I think it runs around $220-320 depending on where live. If you can find pipe like I did it will be about $120. As far as design you can do whatever you want.
How many baitcasting rod/reel combinations can you fit in an 8 inch tube? Second, where can I buy the pipe? I checked Lowes/Home Depot and they only sell 6 inch. Thx
You can fit up to 12 rod and reels but need to offset front and back. The conduit itself you need to go to a plumbing supply house to get 8 inch or bigger.
Just soap and some water. Just make sure the dirt is off or. The Krylon spray paint adheres to PVC very well. Almost melts to it. Just make sure you let it cure for a good week to be safe. It’s been holding up good so far.
No sir. Just clean it good with soap and water. Let it dry. That paint adheres to it very well. I have had no issues to date with paint coming off. Trailer has over 5k miles and lots of bugs and rocks flying at the tube on the highway. But if you want to do a light sanding I am sure it does not hurt. Just make sure the tube is dirt and dust free before applying. Hope yours turns out awesome!
I notice on Amazon the end caps appear not drilled for the rivets you installed to hold the end caps on. Or are they already drilled to accept the rivets?
@bbqbandit3453 no sir. I drilled through the aluminum end caps where I wanted to install rivets. They let you use you own hardware or install how you want. You can use a decent amount of good silicone to, you can say “glue” them on as well. And wipe off the extra silicone and let it set up for a few days. Silicone will hold just fine and you won’t be able to take as well. I just over do everything
The caps are aluminum so won’t bond. You can probably use JB weld or something but there is too much play in the caps. Only other way is if you just use a good silicone like I did and that will hold them on for sure. The rivets give me a better feeling of security. You can use pvc cap on one side and glue it. If you just need the tube for transporting and not leaving anything in there you can just use the pvc sewer cap on the other side and just unscrew it. There is many ways to do this, but to get the brackets and the price as a kit you might as well use the aluminum caps.
You can also take a sawzall and cut the cap off. The fastest is to take a grinder to the padlock. That takes about 3 seconds. I made the conduit 8 feet.
That looks sharp and very functional. Well done. Thanks for sharing how you did this.
No problem sir. I appreciate the comment and that you like it.

That's a killer set-up thanks for the Intel!
No problem. Glad I could help
Silicon the drilled holes and the stem of the rivet prior to installing. Wet installed rivet helps with water proofing. Great video
Thanks for the tip & no problem. I am glad you liked it
Love it, and will do same paint job on my white pvc tube.
Awesome brother. You will like it.
Awesome ! that paint job is cherry!
I was going to do the same but 8" pvc here is $400
Need to try to find some jobsite and ask if you can have a piece. That is what I did.
What is the big box on the back wall. That also looks like an Ideal thing to use to store the rods
The box in the back is a rod storage box as well. The Yakima Topwater box. It’s better than a tube but cost a lot more. I have both. I have numerous videos on the Topwater box on all of my different trailers and truck videos.
Nice job! I'm going to build one for my trailer. Now I kinda want to paint my Kayak too.
Thank you! It would look really cool!

plasti dip works well for the mount brackets. It provides protection as well as grip so it doesn't allow the tube to spin.
That is a good idea as well. So far I have had no problems with the tube moving around on the trailer. Over 5k miles and still holding out good with just the tape. If I start having problems I will take off and use the plastic dip stuff. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Thank you for the feedback.
Nice job!
The price of pvc pipe is insane! Just bought some 12” for work, $41/foot!
Take what you can and bring it home. Sell on the black market. Lol. Yea everything is expensive as anything. But we all get paid the same
Nice work
Thank you . I appreciate it
Nice job! Thanks for the info.
Thank you sir. I am trying to do my best at this TH-cam thing. I appreciate the support.
Awesome job!
Thank you
Excellent job brother, thanks for posting this!
No problem. It was a good idea. Need to start thinking differently with TH-cam. Thank you.
Nice work! How many rods did you manage to fit in it ?
Thank you and 8-10. I run 6 most the time so works good.
@@rjmfishtalesthank you!
Do your rods and reals get beat up .While bouncing around in a tube . It looks cool but my rods mean more to me. Thanks for sharing
I use rod and real covers from Rod Pro-Tech between my tube and Yakima box. They are a one piece cover that goes on and off easily. No problems and full protection.
Thanks for your time!!

Wonder if it might look nicer with heat Shrink around the U bolt.🤷
It would but I had electrical tape for free.
Did you put a primer before spraying? Do you think could put a pattern or grain looking pattern. how much did it cost for all your materials?
The paint has primer built. No primer needed. No sanding needed. The paint melts/bond to pipe. All materials used are in the description and I also go over cost in video. I think it runs around $220-320 depending on where live. If you can find pipe like I did it will be about $120. As far as design you can do whatever you want.
@@rjmfishtales thanks
Do you have a link for the locking endcaps?
It’s in the description of the video.
@rjmfishtales thank you. I found it. Awesome videos keep up the great work
No problem and thanks. I appreciate it
how many cans of black paint did it take?? Sorry if I missed it
Maybe 1. Or 1 & 1/2. I know definitely no more than 2 cans. It didn’t take much to cover the tube.
How many spray paint cans did it take for the whole project?
1 - 1/2 cans. It covers very well. So not much at all.
They make a special glue for the cap to PVC also
Cool I didn’t know they had aluminum to PVC glue. I will have to look it up if I ever do another tube in the future.
What did you do to prep the PVC before painting it? Scuff, degrease, etc...?
Just soap and some water. Just make sure the dirt is off or. The Krylon spray paint adheres to PVC very well. Almost melts to it. Just make sure you let it cure for a good week to be safe. It’s been holding up good so far.
WOW, Thank you for the QUICK response!!
@@LQQKOUT12 no problem. That is why I started channel. To help others.
Do u need to sand the pipe before u paint it?
No sir. Just clean it good with soap and water. Let it dry. That paint adheres to it very well. I have had no issues to date with paint coming off. Keep it clean 😂😂 Nice video tho man!
Thank you. I try to stay clean. It’s hard sometimes. Mind always goes there…..Lol.
What length of 8” tube did you use?
I made it 8 foot as I don’t have any rods longer than 7’6” and never will. 2 foot less of 8 inch pipe saves a lot of weight as it is not light.
I notice on Amazon the end caps appear not drilled for the rivets you installed to hold the end caps on. Or are they already drilled to accept the rivets?

Clamp a rod on each of your saw horses and hang the tube between them...much easier to paint and handle.
Thank you for the tip. I appreciate it.
Instead is using rivets, I wonder if you could’ve used PVC glue and permanently bond the end caps to the PVC pipe?
The caps are aluminum so won’t bond. You can probably use JB weld or something but there is too much play in the caps. Only other way is if you just use a good silicone like I did and that will hold them on for sure. The rivets give me a better feeling of security.

Drill the rivet, easiest of all to steal. Lol
How long is the pvc pipe?
You can also take a sawzall and cut the cap off. The fastest is to take a grinder to the padlock. That takes about 3 seconds.
I made the conduit 8 feet.
BTW drilling the rivets will not work. There is also silicone all the way around both ends. That will not let go.
@@rjmfishtales fantastic.
They need to make the opening side lid go over the screws…. Then just glue a cap on the closed side…
Maybe one day.
Do you have a link to the end caps?
