Hey guys that COE is cool , the truck is either a 48 or 49 because there are no wing windows. there are tons of after market parts for them . My 49 came from Tyler Texas , I bought it back in 1985 from a rancher . I lived in Mckinney , up near Lucas .

I wish my wife had her enthusiasm for finding diamonds in the rough in the field. :D
There's just something that draws me to these forgotten relics. Maybe it's seeing the potential or having a better visual of the vehicle's story. Perhaps it's simply the fact that it's more easily attainable than the pristine show cars that are beyond my reach. Anyways, I actually enjoy walking through an old car yard more than checking out a car show. Best of luck with the project! :)

WOW GUYS,What an AWESOME Project to start 2020 With,Just Love the Chevrolet C.O.E.,likely be between 1948_1953,as in Australia, after 1953,most Chevrolet trucks were Long nose,Blue fire inline 6 cylinders, But this Project is screaming for a BBC 454CI,something different than what you have tackled thus far,go with OL'SCHOOL,Turbo400,with CUSTOM Tilt tray(CAR,Read ROXY),HAULER,with Timber deck, headboard, similar to what Counts Kustom did with one, many of your U.S.followers would have plenty of CHEVROLET bits/pieces, that could be incorporated, e.g.Guages,badges, stainless trim,Airbag it,with dually rear end, including toolboxes, service equipment, winch, compressor, gen/welder,just think about it,I nearly booking a flight to the states,to come and build it,as always kindest Regards Dave McLaughlin, Queensland Australia

    My "build"
    Full rust repair, new paint.
Banks Power Duramax crate motor and gearbox.
Late model axle, Suspension. Probably chassis too.
Short overhang ramp or tow bed.
Air ride seats and nice stereo, centre console cooler.
In Aus you can get the Isuzu N series (Chev LSF) in a 6cyl diesel and AWD. That would make a cool chassis, but you don't get that option up there.

I love COE trucks. If you make it into a ramp truck, I'd add a big block Chevy or a diesel. You will need torque more the HP. Really looking forward to the project. 460 in the '61 would also be great. I have a friend with a short bed with a 460.

I have a 46 COE that's going on a 05 3500 box truck chassis. It will have a 6.0 4L80E and a 4.10 posi rear with a rollback bed on it. This is in in my channel icon. The build is going to be on my channel. Since Aaron is a diesel mechanic a Cummins or Duramax would be cool. The one piece door glass and turn down door handles means its a 48-50 model.

I think it will make a cool car hauler...my guess is like 46-47 or so I don't know much about those Chevy's in that time frame. My current project is a 62 unibody truck that I'm doing the crown Vic frame swap on..tell Matt to consider the same it's a good way to breath new life into a roached out truck (like mine) and you can keep the budget to whatever you want... plenty of videos on TH-cam to help him along too.

Another cool video featuring the ever gorgeous Emily. The truck is probably a 49 or 50 judging from what I see. You will have to decode the serial number on the door hinge plate. Research the GM Heritage Center and/or the Stovebolt Page. Hopefully it has a title. That's more than a long weekend project then drive home. Will be very cool when done. Good luck.

I live in a small town in Oregon. I rescued one of these from a field here locally. It was a 51 mostly complete with motor and trans and in good shape. I just didnt want it to sit there and rot away. I couldnt restore it because I was pretty much broke at the time. The guy gave it to me for free. It cost me $100 to tow it to my house. I listed it on a COE forum and sold it for $100. I just wanted it to go to a home where it would be restored. I also spread the word of another I knew about in a nearby town. Also sitting in a field. It disappeared from the field soon after. So I'd like to think I "rescued" it as well. I can't wait to see how this project goes!

I will be on the hunt for a pair of early/mid '40s Dodge COEs. Preferably one to rescue and one only worthy for parts. This way I won't feel guilty of some customization. just for creature comforts, and a little modernization mods. One would be a one ton chassis with 4 wheel disk, 4x4, and a air suspension. I'm looking to make a goose neck / fifth wheel tow rig. I definitely would not want to change something all original.
Thought I'd let ya know since you have an eye open. ;)

@@rustedratchetgarage6788 I look at it this way. Some are all about the little paper rectangles .... money. This honorable individual rescued a rare gem and wanted nothing more than to see it go to a good home. I recently bought a 170yr old farm house. I beat out some one with a cash purchase price who wanted to renovate all. The seller wanted the home to stay original as possible. They were not about money. My hats off to these rare breed of folk.

Lotsa options here, this is going to be fun to watch. Seems a shame to work hard to get it running there and then pull it apart again.
I helped a cfriend do a Ford COE many years ago. Friend insisted in gas power, he put a BBC in it with a T-400. Engine behind the cab no matter what you power it, will make it a heck of a lot cooler and quieter in the cab, and if you design the ramp wedge right much easier to work on as well.
I would scrounge the boneyard for a common rail out of a 3rd gen Dodge. IF you could find an 07 Dodge Ram 3500 dually in the boneyard or otherwise as a donor vehicle you would be set pretty well. Prefer would be 07, 325 HP 600 lb tq. bone stock.
Adapt to an Allison. Use the Dodge dually rear end, with Disc Brakes from the factory. You can put the radiator up front where it was designed to go, or in front of the engine behind the cab., then you could convert the space under the hood to a baggage compartment. AC condenser up front for sure.
Set it up on air so that when it is time to load the GTO you can drop the wedge to the ground.
    Same color as Roxy.
    Flying Sparks logo on doors...
Can see it in my mind now.

There's a COE here in my town that's been sitting in a private lot wasting away (fortunately on concrete) forever.
Every time I drive past it I dream about turning it into a gooseneck hauler for a track car (Factory Five, preferably) and painting the two vehicles to match. In my little pea brain a built diesel is the only option for my purpose.

Everybody has a COE car hauler.
Restore with sick interior and sound system, think about stretching for crew cab, power with whatever floats your boat, put a Western Hauler bed on to pull your car hauler goose neck, 5th wheel camper, utility trailer, cattle/horse trailer, or whatever. Do not limit your options.
Keep in mind such things as air ride, shiny side step tanks, many lights, bright and big power heated west coast mirrors, and color left to your desire. Volvo 2012 C-70 car has black with a red/orange deep metal flake that is killer.
You have a follower and fan. Have loved these COEs for 50 years. Good luck and go for it. I’m from OK so it is destiny that I watch this Phoenix rise, (hmmm, good name).
P,S.-go to Fort Worth take a tour of Western Hauler, have owned several of their trucks and really like them.

The Ford pickup looks to be a "unibody". Only made in the early '60s (61-63?) Truck box and cab were one piece, hence name "unibody." Kind of rare I think, that needs a restoration.

Check out Chevs of the 40's for all the interior parts, glass, rubber door seals, windshield rubber or most anything for this truck. I suppose a 800hp LS would work. that way you could have Vintage Air. Nah... go with the diesel.

Putting the new inline 6 Duramax in this rig would be nice. The engine would be about the same size as original. You put a NV4500 or NV5600 transmission and box the frame with a complete restauration. It's what I'd do with it.

A Cumming diesel for car hauling or a stroked 350, 383, low end torque cam with EFI. Steep gears with an overdrive transmission would make in travel down the road for the long haul trips. Clean up the rust and put that Rino liner on the cab.
