What about putting a UV light (waterproof, of course) inside an RV freshwater tank? I'd like to use UV, but don't have any more room to install a separate UV filter.
please sir do respond asap. i have a 3 stage water filteration plant and there is button that lights up the uv light in the chamber, but i donot understand does this uv light have to be on 24/7 even when i am not drawing the water from the filter.
It needs transparency for the light to shine through and kill the living organisms in a product, so it might work in water but won't be as effective in products with color.
My water is at 11 hardness .. does this affect the uv light ? I had some water treatment sales guy tell me I need a water softener or the uv won’t work .
Hi guys, i am thinking of starting a a bottle water from rest water source( river), now sure where to start and how to go about it. Anyone can point me in the right direction?
I am on a city water 💧 and when I turn on the ultra violet the water goes funky teast. I called the company and they Saud because the city might use ozone to clean the water abd ozone react with ultra violet. Is this accurate?
Very informative video thanks for posting. However there are just a couple outstanding questions Which you hadn't touched upon. 1. How much time does the UV light need to stay in contact with the water passing though it to fully be effective in "killing" all the bacteria which might be present? 2. Is the light on some sort of limit switch which would turn the light on and off when it senses water flow, or is it on all the time? Personally I would think you could extend the life of the bulb if it is not on when there is no water usage being passed through the system.
blue LED is the last LEDs that were made and UV is still in it's infancy in LED. The benefit to those is they can turn on immediately. These types of lights take a long time to "warm up" so there's no on/off unless you don't want to kill everything. Also the living organisms will move up the pipe by themselves while the water isn't flowing so it isn't good. Now there are methods to combat this, if you install 2x (two) of these units + a check valve you can pre-kill everything and then kill it again a few feet down the line, this allows you to do a on/off system without worrying about bacteria swimming down the line, also without having to worry about them getting past while the lights warm up. I'd also have a timer for a minimum of 2 minutes on time when they do turn on, so it isn't on/off really fast or whatever.
it takes upto 10 seconds of UV light at the correct wavelength (100-280nm)... which is why i don't understand these systems.. there is no physical way the water in that filter gets 10 seconds of exposure while the water is actually flowing unless you are using a trickle of water... to actually be effective.. you would need about 5 of these units in-line to actually be effective
When I use the uv light, the water 💧 teast weird. I called the company and they said it because the UV react with ozone the city use to treat the water. Is that correct?
I for see many problems with this unit. A. How does the quartz sleeve stay clean? B. How will you know if the glass is clean? Bc I seen them dirty in less then 6 months. The best most effect system I saw was made by Hallet. They have wiper blades and crosslight sensors

I'd recommend doing a google search on this topic and maybe youll stumble on a discussion regarding uv sterilizers for homes with algae flavored water. Also get your RO unit inspected I've heard of bacterial growth within the tanks.
Good detailed video, thanks. I have to wonder though doesn't the vaporized mercury present introduce a new hazard (to the indoor air quality) potentially offsetting any health benefit ?
It's the sealed vapor *within* the lamp which gets consumed over time. This is essentially the same as a regular incandescent and fluorescent bulbs found throughout your house.

How much mercury "goes away" into your drinking water? Mercury is extremely toxic. Please explain more about why you have to replace the UV bulb. I thought they lasted forever. I thought mercury can't "dissipate" or "go away" through glass. @@SiriusC1024 I guess it's safe but it would be much safer and easier and less expensive to use LEDs. Hello and thank you for this video. I have one simple question: Can I use an aquarium UV-C light for sterilizing drinking water?
Though the quartz sleeve is very brittle, is something like the Pura UV system ok to use within a moving vehicle such as an RV?
Can you take a handheld uv lamp to treat a rainwater catchers / ibc totes this lamp is also used to visually inspect dye that checks for leaks you have to wear eye protection with the lamp
Yes, depending on wattage, and if its the right wavelenght , easier to just buy a uvc lamp and immerse in in it
