    • @EonityLuna
      @EonityLuna 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Here's the funny thing: for me at least I prefer to use Reds for typing over other supposedly more "typist-oriented" switches, like Blues or even Browns. In fact I'm using a Gateron Red Switch keyboard right now, even though I don't game on my computer a lot.
      If you typed on an old-school, early-20th century typewriter, you will realise that their feel is more akin to a Red or Black switch than Blue or Brown. In fact I could describe them as rather heavy Reds or Blacks, that only actuate when fully bottomed-out.

      eXAKR I personally hate typing on linear switches, but gaming on them is pretty nice. I use tactile switches because they’re way better for typing for me and they’re good enough for gaming (not as nice as linears, but they get the job done and don’t feel like they’re making me worse at the game). Clicky switches can fuck off, I don’t need my whole neighbourhood knowing I have an essay due in 3 hours

      Also I've got some box jades arriving in the next week or so which I can't wait to try now that I've heard how obnoxious they sound :)) I doubt they'll be as awful as the razer greens in my blackwidow 2014 though!

    Just added 150g springs to my Keychron K8 aluminum frame kb with Gateron Browns. I guess they’re “super browns” now? They’re stiff as all get-out but feels great in use! It’s nearly impossible to type a letter by mistake. You can rest your fingers on the keys without actuating the key which is surprisingly reassuring. It reminds me of typing on an old school mechanical typewriter. The Keychron has a high quality & solid “thock” sound when typing. Also I put Gateron blacks on the Mac Command Key and left shift key because when I press a two key combo like “CMD-C” it’s a little difficult when both keys are so heavy. I found it makes it much better to have a couple of keys with a normal spring and the rest with heavy ones. A true custom keyboard!

    I love how I can see the extreme difference in the amount of force you had to put into bottoming them out vs just typing 😂

    I have a GK61 on order. I haven't used a mechanical keyboard since.... oh thirty years ago with the model Ms in typing class if then. You have contributed to my research along with me finding an amazon listing for switch springs that might be SUPER fun.
    Plan on using the keyboard totally unmodded save for the replacement keycaps and a neoprene mat in the case. Then go from there; because i plan on having diffrent keys with diffrent weights and click to them. Like I want escape and Windows to be ultra heavy as a ''bro are you SURE you wanna hit this key?' ditto probably with caps lock.
    Mostly because the keyboard is the interface to most of what i do. i want it to be awesome.

    I was also thinking about trying this just for fun when I saw 150G springs available. I've actually been really liking light springs, though. I always liked the gateron clears, and have been putting 35g springs into a few other switches to try them out, and they're great.
    I'm currently typing this on a board I made last night with some gateron silent blacks that I swapped to 35g springs. It's pretty great. I think the main thing you might run into going _super_ light is that at some point, the stabilized keys might start giving you trouble.
    On one of my boards with clears, I over-lubed the stabilizers a little, and some grease got on the PCB, and it's enough that the flat bottom of the stabilizer sticks well enough to hold the key down for a second after you release it. Removing it and wiping the excess away fixed it, but I could see some lower quality stabilizers potentially adding enough drag to make the keys stick.
